[Bug 81858] Re: Digg.com slows down the browser

2007-04-21 Thread tomdryer
I am having the same issue with Ubuntu 7.04. It used to work fine with
Edgy, and started when I did a clean install of Feisty. Both Firefox and
Epiphany have the exact same problems. Opening digg.com or
linuxactionshow.com causes Firefox to slow down. Scrolling and opening
menus becomes slow, and if I move a window over Firefox it redraws very
slowly. But when I switch to another tab the speed is normal. Switching
back to the slow tab causes a delay and Firefox slows down again.

I have a ATI Radeon X300. Could this be related to the fact my old
install used fglrx and now I have the open source ati driver?

[Bug 108192] Re: some keys on my generic USB keyboard do not work properly ufter upgrading from kubuntu 6.10 to 7.04

2007-04-21 Thread Artur Schmitt
Since the bug happens when the computer is rebooted and dissapears on
the running system when hot-pluging-in the keyboard, I guess that it
could be a kind of initialization problem during the bootup process.

[Bug 94230] Re: thumbnails privacy violation hazard

2007-04-21 Thread cb474
The .thumbnail/normal file is also problematic if you work with large
quantities of images. The file can become huge and take up a great deal
of disk space. Not everyone needs to save a thumbnail of every image
they look at. I recently discoverd my .thumbnail/normal file size is
375mb.

[Bug 108156] Re: Wishlist: Check integrity of files after Ubuntu has been installed

2007-04-21 Thread Yuri Aoki.Hidan.Lucifiel
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: ubiquity

I'm not sure if this is already programmed into the Installation process
and I know nothing about programming or scripting.

A thorough checking process could be initialised after Ubuntu has been
installed. That is: it checks the integrity of the files and sees if the
files are corrupted or if all the components have been installed
  properly.

If the files fail the integrity check, Ubuntu tries to reformat and run
  the installation process again.

+ (Edit: Also, an afterthought. Could this matter be related to the cd-rom
+ drive trying to read the cd as fast as possible? Perhaps if so, the
+ developers could force the cd to be read at only a certain speed and
+ below? That is: detect the cd-rom drive read rate and force it to read
+ the cd around 3/4 of its' read speed.)
+
This is because I was unfortunate enough to get a corrupted installation
(my first time installing Ubuntu, even!) and had to reinstall the
operating system. I'm quite sure many others have shared a similar
  experience.

[Bug 93415] Re: Totem cannot play ASF Video

2007-04-21 Thread Andreas Schildbach
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 80342 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/80342

Well, the annoyance is that possibly no one can view any videos taken by
a camera bought by ALDI, Germans largest discounter. At least not my
mother, who is sad that she can't watch their grandchilds. Opening a
command line, cd'ing to the right directory and using mplayer is no
workaround for her (too complicated). I tried to associate .ASF with
mplayer through Gnome, but this does not work either (hangs, too).

I'd vote for an update, but of course a more biased decision should be
made.

[Bug 108422] Lock screen and switch user freeze in Feisty

2007-04-21 Thread Jukka
Public bug reported:

This bug is easily triggered on my computer. This only happens in
Feisty, I've never seen this in Edgy or Dapper.

1. You need two user accounts to do this
2. Login with user account A
3. Lock the screen (or wait until the screensaver starts and the screen is
locked) and switch user
4. Login with user account B
5. Lock the screen (or wait as above) and then open the lock
6. Logout user B -- my computer freezes completely at this point

As a temporary solution, I've disabled the screensavers from all
accounts and the screens aren't locked anymore. Where should I start
looking for the source of the trouble? User switching is used quite
heavily on this computer and this problem is quite crippling.

I've got a clean and unmodified feisty:
P4 2.6GHz
1GB Ram
Ati Radeon X800 Pro (open source drivers)
Audigy 2 ZS

[Bug 106691] Re: nvidia-glx drivers with compiz/beryl enabled: if the gnome-panel at the top is not set to expand, then there's glitchness

2007-04-21 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
If you are getting the nvidia module via the Fesity repos then that's
not going to invalidate this bug.

I'm not quite sure as to where this bug should go If it is
reproducible with the open source nv driver on a single monitor then I
would guess its a xorg bug otherwise it is most likely a bug in the
nvidia binary driver. The incorrect empty space might be a symptom of
the way Twinview is presenting its screens but could just as likely be a
bug in gnome-panels that aren't using expand on differently sized
monitors...

Re: [Bug 105987] Ubuntu 6.10 hangs on first boot

2007-04-21 Thread Jerome S. Gotangco
It seems you have configured this with the binary nvidia driver. Can
you do sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg from the command line and
choose 'nv' driver instead. If the symptom still persists on 6.10
please attach Xorg.0.log from /var/log

When it boots back up again it show the ubuntu logo, the loading bar
completes I hear the login sound but have a blank screen. Typing
ctr-alt-f(1-6) doesn't open a console either. Whats gives?

I've set the driver in xorg.conf to nvidia. I tried using vesa but
this results in a blank screen without the login sound. Does anyone
 know what the problem is?

[Bug 108426] BIND (named) needs to be updated to 9.4.0

2007-04-21 Thread demosdemon
Public bug reported:

If a nameserver -- any nameserver, whether BIND or otherwise -- is configured

[Bug 95210] Re: Can't access to TTY- init /etc/event.id/tty1:16: Unknown stanza

2007-04-21 Thread Henrik Hjelte
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 92928 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92928

I can confirm this bug on the released Feisty, when upgrading with apt-get
--dist-upgrade. I have not tried the CD version.
system-services was installed: so apt-get install system-services did not make
a difference.
apt-get --reinstall install system-services did not update the files either.
apt-get remove followed by install would remove ubuntu-base as well, and I
didn't want to try that..
After updating exactly like Flapane did, it works but as Jeff said in the
middle of the boot process. However I don't need control-d to get to the login
prompt, I just press enter after booting.

[Bug 108296] Re: missing /etc/postgresql/ after uninstall/reinstall

2007-04-21 Thread uqbar
I've fixed the problem by manually reinstalling all postgresql related packages.
I've seen that no .deb package contains that directory so it must be created by
the installation scripts.
I have no idea which one created it but I'd say that either the
postgresql-common or the postgresql-server should do the magics,

[Bug 108427] Update manager out of memory during cleanup

2007-04-21 Thread bertkenward
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

This does seem to have been reported before, but the update manage crash
handler said not to attach to an existing one. Anyway, during the cleanup
process in update-manager (from edgy to feisty on kubuntu) ran out of memory.
top shows python as:
  5418 root 15 0 2237m 433m 2756 S 0.0 86.1 2:19.58 python

so it's certainly using memory. The system does appear to be in a
consistent state after a reboot - is there anything I should check?
Traceback is:

[Bug 107965] Re: [Feisty]Bug with kernel 2.6.20 on AMD 64 : no way to boot

2007-04-21 Thread Daniel Moyne
I changed the UUID label in Grub in line :
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-generic root=/UUID=
by :
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-15-generic root=/dev/sda1 ro quiet splash
and now it works.

So apparently there are some confusion with UUID labelling

[Bug 64487] Re: Usplash in edgy results in out of range error

2007-04-21 Thread Graeme Pietersz
Same problem with Edgy and SiS video. The LCD complains of a 86.6Hz
vertical refresh (its limit is 75).

Dapper used to use too low a resolution and it looked a little ugly.
This is much worse.

I tried work around this by not using usplash, but an update overwrote
Grub's menu.lst and turned it on again.

No, this is not a new Ubuntu bug. It also happens on Fedora. I am

when using the current tree. I am using an older snapshot that compiles
correctly. Try to checkout the DRM branch as of about 2 months ago.

[Bug 75894] Re: [GPL GS WORKS] evince (gs-esp) memory leak opening .eps files

But the problem is that gs-esp doesn't work, not gs-gpl. What's more,
gs-esp is the default and memory allocation bombs that occur when an eps

Or did you mean to say gs-esp is working?

My sound has suddenly stopped working in Feisty. I've been running

I've tried everything in

[Bug 108436] after upgrade fron edgy to feisty konqueror doesn't open http links anymore

2007-04-21 Thread Marcin Giedz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: konqueror

Hi,

In Edgy konqueror worked great! After last upgrade to Feisty it suddenly stoped
- I mean I can't no longer use konqueror to browse http/https sites.
I can't browse www sites working as regular user - non root, but when I try to
run konqueror from sudo it works!
So I thought that maybe my settings are somehow broken and added completely new
user - result was the same - www doesn't work! Maybe it not konqueror error
itself because every application that use http protocol seems to doesn't work -
amarok during raido list fetching, agregator etc

When I run konqueror I always get the same info:

{these are translated from Polish so can not be accurate}
There was an error during loading http://linuxnews.pl:
Can't connect with server http://linuxnews.pl/.

I konsole when I run konqueror I get:ASSERT: !icon.isEmpty() in
/build/buildd/kdebase-3.5.6/./libkonq/konq_pixmapprovider.cc (81)
This text doesn't appear in sudo environment.

I don't want to install my system again from scratch - but need to find
the reason why http doesn't work.

Can you please help me?

Kind regards,
Marcin Giedz

Dapper, it maybe possible to backport a fix.

[Bug 45026] Re: K3b dont find emovix-2 and normalize

2007-04-21 Thread uqbar
I forgot to mention that you have to rename the program to normalize-audio
from normalize after the installation.
I'm sure you can change something in some Makefile, but have no time to check.
In my opinion it's the k3b that should be modified, not the normalize!
