[Bug 108571] Re: Suspend [to RAM and to disk] broken in 2.6.20-15

2007-04-26 Thread Tomas Thiemel
Hi,
I dist-upgraded from 6.10 to 7.04 and I have the same problem - suspend to disk
and suspend to RAM does not work.
When I suspend to RAM and restore, kernel locks up with flashing CAPS-LOCK and
SCROLL-LOCK LEDs on keyboard.

New version, new problems :-(((

(I have MSI-S270 notebook with AMD64 Turion MT-32 CPU; Linux
2.6.20.3-ubuntu1 #6 Wed Apr 25 09:43:27 CEST 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux)

[Bug 109497] Re: Logitech USB headphones which worked in Edgy don't in Feisty

2007-04-26 Thread JosephWoodbridge
This issue is now resolved. I followed this howto here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=418360

Apparently all i had to do was run the command:

asoundconf set-default-card Headset

and it created some configuration files in my home directory, and then
sound started working.

[Bug 88570] Re: last feisty update breaks sound: SB450 HDA Audio

2007-04-26 Thread Henning Mersch
I had a related (?) problem with my ThinkPad R52.
00:1e.2 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW
(ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03)
Sound seems to be played from apps POV, but no noise out of headphone /
speakers.
The KMix solution worked - no further changes on module params etc needed.
Just uncheck (!) Headphone Jack AND Line Jack Sense under Switches Tab in
KMixer.
Maybe this helps someone - are there equivalent options for Gnome?

[Bug 103573] Re: RaConfig does not work

2007-04-26 Thread erm67
I downloaded the source of the rt2500 package shipped with ubuntu and reading
the diff file I noticed that it was patched to use eth0 as the default device
name, while the driver uses the standard device name ra0. thus the error. it is
not necessary to recompile the utility, just
sudo vi /etc/rt2x00.conf
put a single line with
ra0
in the file and save now it works.

Re: [Bug 79607] Re: HP Deskjet 5150 shows up as an HP Deskjet 5100 in various places

2007-04-26 Thread Chris Wagner
Till, thank you for the excellent detail about this issue. Sorry I
didn't respond sooner.

I tried to use the Perl script, below, but had no luck:
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Desktop$ sudo perl
getusbprinterid.pl /dev/usblp0
  Died at getusbprinterid.pl line 3.
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Desktop$ sudo perl
getusbprinterid.pl /dev/bus/usb/002/003
  Died at getusbprinterid.pl line 12.

I'm not sure if /dev/bus/usb/002/003 is the right device node. `lsusb`
shows a line like
  Bus 002 Device 003: ID 03f0:6204 Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 5150c
so I assumed the 002/003 corresponded to the Bus/Device listed there.

/dev/usblp* doesn't exist at all on my system.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

[Bug 68020] Re: Azureus crashes just after startup (attempt to show sliding notification window)

2007-04-26 Thread Ian Justman
I will be running Azureus semi-headless by using a VNC X server on my
fileserver. I've had trouble getting Azureus running on it regardless
of which JVM I've tried (though I was going between Sun Java 6 and
GCJ's).

After watching the messages, I decided to try something different. Run
Azureus on one computer while displaying it on another.

Here are my results:

Ubuntu Feisty machine:
vnc4server + Azureus + Sun Java 6 (all on above server) == Crash at some point
or another.

Ubuntu Feisty machine + Debian Sarge machine with bits of Sid:

(vnc4server on Debian machine) + (Azureus and Sun Java 6 on Ubuntu
machine as above) == Solidly fires right up and works.

This seems to apply both to the Ubuntu-packaged and upstream versions of
Azureus.

I downloaded smallish file and it worked just fine.

However, I haven't tried running long torrents on this machine since it
has a very small hard drive in it (4GB) to test reliability as all the
big drives I intend to use with this install are in the Debian machine.
Nor have I tried to run it displaying on a real X server since this
machine will never be running one to begin with once it's in production
mode.

Further, the working setup is a suboptimal setup because I'm fully
intent on decommissioning the Debian install in favor of the Ubuntu
install by moving it into the box which is presently running the Debian
install.

[Bug 63090] Re: do not eject all USB/Firewire devices

2007-04-26 Thread David Fokkema
Please, if you want to shout, do it in a forum. A bug report is meant to
be just that: a report. Comments should be adding new information or
discussing a fix. It bites me too, but please relax and let the
developers do their job. It's far easier for them if they don't have to
filter the comments in a report. Otherwise, the more popular ubuntu
becomes, the more difficult it will be to get things done. For example,
this bug report has already 10 duplicates. That means, no insult
intended, ten people who discovered the same problem, felt they had to
report about it, but failed to scan launchpad for a similar report.

[Bug 110171] kTorrent crashes frequently, randomly

2007-04-26 Thread datakid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ktorrent

I run Feisty, on a Dell Dimension 9200. This happens 1 a day, nothing
unusual is happening - I'm still largely able to download content as and
when I need - I just need to restart ktorrent every so often. I am using
the scheduler. This is the output on the bug, while I haven't done a
diff on the crash output, I'm pretty sure it's the same thing everytime.

Cheers

2007-04-26 Thread Ralph
Hi,

For the problem, I fixed it yesterday with the help of the program envy (
http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html)

I'm at my work now, so I will send you the files when I'm back home. I hope
there's still the information you need to solve this problem for other users
or for future purposes.

Regards,
Ralph

 Ralph:
I'm still going to need both those files to be uploaded stand any chance
of investigating this properly (if you tried to attach them by email then I
guess it didn't work - can you use the launchpad web interface please?). In
addition to those two files could you add the output of the following
 commands:
 dpkg -l nvidia-\* | grep ii
 ls -la /lib/linux-restricted-modules/

[Bug 109879] Re: Numlock fails to function in feisty

2007-04-26 Thread Sarah
Upon further inspection, numlock isn't actually disabled when pushing
the caps lock button; just the light on the keyboard is turned off. So
this is not as pressing an issue; however, it makes it a little
ambiguous as to whether numlock is enabled or not. I'm not sure if this
is restricted to the logitech access keyboard, but as I do not have
access to other keyboards, I can neither confirm nor disprove that.

[Bug 90795] Re: Unmount of remote CIFS shares fails with timeout on system shutdown

2007-04-26 Thread François Montel
I experience the same problem, both previously with Edgy, and now with

is in text mode, after X has already shut down).

[Bug 110176] [apport] hwdb-kde crashed with IndexError in sendData()

2007-04-26 Thread agrabah
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hwdb-client

This crash report showed up after I restarted my computer. It might be a
duplicate of #91948; I did enter non-ascii characters in hwdb once
before I rebooted my machine; but the program did not seem to crash, it
just stalled at the point where the device database is sent to the
ubuntu servers. I could close the window normally, and at that point I
got no error message.

[Bug 110177] Gcalctool can't handle small physic constants like the Boltzmann constant

2007-04-26 Thread wwwandy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

Open Gcalctool, switch to
Ansicht-Wissenschaftlich (in english i think view scintific)
Klick on drop-down constants, edit constants

Now i tried to add the Boltzmann-Konstante 1,380 650 5 · 10−23 J K−1
But there is a hint at the lower border: Alle Werte werden zur numerischen
Dezimalbasis angegeben
So, it doesn't seem to be possible to add a constant like 1.38e-24

then i tried to add it without e 0.13806505 which is
somewhat annoying.
Then I clicked on the new constant and a 0 appeared. Then I switched the
display mode to scintific and now the constant
1.380650656e-23 is shown correctly. Even if i switch back to the constant
editing window, the constant is now shown in exponential form,
but can't be edited. Just try to change 1.38e-23 to 1.38e-24.

using envy we can no longer follow up on this bug (installing 3rd party tools

Re: [Bug 109879] Re: Numlock fails to function in feisty

2007-04-26 Thread fheinonen
Well I can confirm that this doesn't happen on my fujitsu-siemens
laptop.

2007/4/26, Sarah [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Upon further inspection, numlock isn't actually disabled when pushing
the caps lock button; just the light on the keyboard is turned off. So
this is not as pressing an issue; however, it makes it a little
ambiguous as to whether numlock is enabled or not. I'm not sure if this
is restricted to the logitech access keyboard, but as I do not have
access to other keyboards, I can neither confirm nor disprove that.

Sorry, I meant bug #75295 (and I checked the bug twice) which is kernel

addon-storage eating up all CPU but IMHO it doesn't solve the problem.

[Bug 110183] gmplayer doesn't change video size when switched to fullscreen

2007-04-26 Thread Juraj Lukac
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mplayer

When I play some video in gmplayer and switch it to fullscreen, the video
windows gets fullscreen but the video size doesn't change. This happens only
when playing some video in gmplayer. When I play some file, or dvd, from
command line with mplayer the fullscreen resizing works correct.
Another problem is, that when resizing video window in gmplayer, it only resize
video window but not video size, after the video size gets to its actual size.
When for example video has size 300x150 the video size can be changed only to
smaller, not greater then 300x150. After video size is 300x150 then only video
window changes its size not the video size itself.

[Bug 108189] Re: files list file for package `*' is missing final newline

2007-04-26 Thread Killercow
Your list file is almost completely correct, the end however is missing.

If you know xml you can try to fix it by adding the end tags. (try opening it
in firefox after renaming the extention to .xml)
But you can never be sure if you need to add just the closing tags, or if
there's more information missing.

[Bug 110071] Re: Problems with standby! Getting a warning! Feisty!

2007-04-26 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Thank you for your bug report.

I suspect I might be able to add something and help clarify the problem. When I
resume after hibernating overnight a small warning pops up saying that
hibernation failed when in fact it worked successfully. This warning make a
mention of HAL. Also in my ~/.xsession-errors there is the following:
** (gnome-session:13603): WARNING **: Couldn't connect to PowerManager Method
invoked for Hibernate returned FALSE but did not set error
I am using an NVIDIA card with the nvidia-glx-legacy drivers with the NvAGP
option set to 1.

Stefan:
Is this the issue you are seeing too or are you describing something else? If
it's something else I suspect you will have to further describe the problem...

Personal comments:

I have not found getting to Feisty easy at all. The upgrade tool just
froze on my Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. It took 3 attempts to get the
latest release of Feisty onto the laptop (fresh install as the upgrade
was completely broken). There appear to be a lot of missing instructions
(I'm not referring to using F6 to get to what we were all used to)
during install to guide the installation correctly (maybe a little too
automatic?).

This PC is an Asus P4 Terminator 533 c/w 40GB and 80GB drives and 512MB
mem. Based on the fact the latest release finally worked on the laptop
(albeit with the help of a cup of coffee - for the laptop!) , I risked
the install on the Asus. Hmmm.

Ok, let me reboot (and pray like it's going out of fashion the PC can
run on the limp Feisty now installed!).

M.

continues to work as it should, but Nautilus doesn't display a CD-ROM 1

[Bug 110187] Wireless won't work unless 'Roaming mode' selected

2007-04-26 Thread Gareth Fitzworthington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I have an ASUS A6R laptop with Broadcom 4318 wireless. It wouldn't work
under Edgy. I updated to feisty beta in mid-March and it worked until
updates came through in late-March which broke it. Hasn,t worked since.
I have a hidden ap and use WEP.

I was using bcm43xx driver which worked as stated above. I have now
changed to ndiswrapper but problem is the same.

I can get it to work if I select 'Enable Roaming Mode' in NetworkManager
and start the dhcp server on my network server. I can also see other
wireless networks. If I disable Roaming Mode in NetworkManager I get no
wireless access at all.

I think the problem is related to avahi? (not sure). If I do:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo ifup wlan0
Error for wireless request Set Encode (8B2A) :
invalid argument my password.
RTNETLINK answers: File exists
run-parts: /etc/network/if-up.d/avahi-autoipd exited with return code 2

The my password above was actually my WEP passphrase.

I have the latest updates. Other details follow:

[Bug 85488] Re: Canon Lide25 (plustek backend) scanner does not scan via gui

2007-04-26 Thread Willi
I have the same problems and resolved it just by booting with the latest
but one kernel that was automatically installed during the update from
Edgy to Feisty. Obviously, the latest but one kerne was not compiled
with the USB_SUSPEND-option. Now my Lide 20 works fine again.

If you do not need a kernel feature that is only available in the latest
kernel, just boot the latest but one distributed by Ubuntu - no need to
recompile your own kernel.
