[Bug 111173] gparted does not partition previous partition
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gparted I am running a dual-boot system and attempted to resize the Ubuntu partition. Windows partition /dev/hda1 ntfs was 116.21 GiB; Ubuntu was /dev/hda2 ext3 of (approx) 115.24GiB. In addition there was an extended /dev/hda3 of 1.44 GiB containing a linux-swap /dev/hda5 of 1.44 GiB. Starting with Feisty Live CD, I initially tried to resize hda2 and gparted just didn't work, continually stating that hda2 had not been unmounted. Not leaving well enough alone, I used the Dapper Live CD. I told gparted to reduce the size of the Ubuntu partition and to make the new free area into another partition (a Primary partition because there was no other option offered). It took a long time to reduce the size (about 15 minutes), and then gparted soft crashed on the making of the new partition, with error message that the partition had not been created. I rebooted the Dapper Live CD and opened up gparted again, only to have the original Ubuntu partition show its head again, undivided. And worse: listed as an unknown file system with no used areas showing. The Ubuntu partition is inaccessible and the GRUB booter no longer works. ** Affects: gparted (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- gparted does not partition previous partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 85751] Re: Distorted MP3 sound
I am having the same issue with mencode/mplayer. The .deb package from the Devede site does not work for me. Whenever I try to install Devede or k9copy (or anything else that uses those packages), it tries to uninstall the .deb versions and reinstall the Ubuntu (buggy) repo versions. Even if I install the CVS pakages through Synapic, it tries to remove them. I had to compile Devede from source (and k9copy) to get them to work. But it would still be nice to be able to install them the normal way through the repositories. Does anyone know when this is will be fixed in the official package for mplayer/mencoder? -- Distorted MP3 sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/85751 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 85488] Re: Canon Lide25 (plustek backend) scanner does not scan via gui
wow. you questions made me a bit smarter this morning. I read some documentation and this what i have: from kernel source Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt Module parameters for loadable modules are specified only as the parameter name with optional '=' and value as appropriate, such as: modprobe usbcore blinkenlights=1 Module parameters for modules that are built into the kernel image are specified on the kernel command line with the module name plus '.' plus parameter name, with '=' and value if appropriate, such as: usbcore.blinkenlights=1 This document may not be entirely up to date and comprehensive. The command modinfo -p ${modulename} shows a current list of all parameters of a loadable module. Loadable modules, after being loaded into the running kernel, also reveal their parameters in /sys/module/${modulename}/parameters/. Some of these parameters may be changed at runtime by the command echo -n ${value} /sys/module/${modulename}/parameters/${parm}. It's mean you need to make: echo -n 60 /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend or some other timing. it can be so easy and at same time not. [Bug 3731] Re: Xorg resolution falling back to 640x480 and/or 800x600 when h/v freqs incorrect
For Feisty, xresprobe is not included in the default installation. In theory, this should not be an issue for most people, however I think for people who don't have xresprobe installed, if they reconfigure Xorg then the new xorg.conf file could result in incomplete monitor detection, and thus lead to this bug. This could also occur if the user installed a new monitor or video card and re-ran `sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver- xorg` without first installing xresprobe. It could also occur if a user upgrades from Edgy or Dapper to Feisty, and xresprobe gets uninstalled, and then the user reconfigures xorg. As I understand, this was a unique change for Feisty, and wouldn't affect Edgy or Dapper users since as I understand xresprobe was installed by default in those. For gutsy we've altered things such that xresprobe is once again installed by default, so behavior should at least return to where it was with Edgy and Dapper. In at least one dupe of this bug, having xresprobe present seems to have helped. See bug 109908. However, this change only gives us a partial fix; I know there are additional problems with xresprobe that will crop up even with it installed. -- Xorg resolution falling back to 640x480 and/or 800x600 when h/v freqs incorrect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/3731 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 94673] Re: Feisty : wrong screen definition
Gerard, This is extremely interesting that it works sometimes, and doesn't work other times. At first, this sounds exactly like bug 3731, however no one has ever reported this working intermittently as you have. It's very clear looking at your xorg.conf file that sometimes it detects the monitor as L70S, and other times detects it as Generic Monitor. Would you mind doing some tests? Could you boot the live CD a bunch of times and for each boot, take some measurements: For each LiveCD boot trial: * Does /etc/X11/xorg.conf show L705 or Generic Monitor? * Was xresprobe installed? (run command `which xresprobe`) * Did you do any unusual actions during boot (press some keys, choose different boot options, etc.) * Anything else unique about this boot? This information could prove to be extremely handy at getting insights into this problem that many, many people are running into, so your help would be very much appreciated! -- Feisty : wrong screen definition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94673 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 82424] Re: nautilus uses 99% of cpu and responds very slowly
I can confirm this running Feisty and using gnome-video-thumbnailer from totem-gstreamer 2.18.1-0ubuntu3. I don't think this is actually a bug, meaning that nautilusthumbnailer is doing what they are designed to do. 1. Azureus is loading a video file to a directory nautilus is watching. 2. Nautilus notices oh, the file changed, better create a thumbnail for it. 3. Thumbnailer runs, and usually even creates a thumbnail successfully (.avi needs only the beginning and the end to be viewable in sane players, and those are the parts azureus tries to fetch first). 4. Go back to step 2 because the file has already changed. The end result is that while the file downloads nautilus continually recreates the thumbnail wasting 100% of the CPU in the process (and this shouldn't have anything to do with azureus, the same ought to happen while downloading with any bittorrent client). Workaround is to download to a directory which is not watched, but some fix to nautilus would be nice, e.g., have some timeout before creating a new thumbnail for the same, changed file. Ric95: Exactly what Bryce said. Turning off services can be a bit fraught and the powernowd service has two different scripts which can cause it to be run.
