[Bug 111173] gparted does not partition previous partition

2007-04-30 Thread DavidCowell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gparted

I am running a dual-boot system and attempted to resize the Ubuntu
partition. Windows partition /dev/hda1 ntfs was 116.21 GiB; Ubuntu was
/dev/hda2 ext3 of (approx) 115.24GiB. In addition there was an extended
/dev/hda3 of 1.44 GiB containing a linux-swap /dev/hda5 of 1.44 GiB.

Starting with Feisty Live CD, I initially tried to resize hda2 and
gparted just didn't work, continually stating that hda2 had not been
unmounted.

Not leaving well enough alone, I used the Dapper Live CD.

I told gparted to reduce the size of the Ubuntu partition and to make
the new free area into another partition (a Primary partition because
there was no other option offered). It took a long time to reduce the
size (about 15 minutes), and then gparted soft crashed on the making of
the new partition, with error message that the partition had not been
created.

I rebooted the Dapper Live CD and opened up gparted again, only to have
the original Ubuntu partition show its head again, undivided. And worse:
listed as an unknown file system with no used areas showing.

The Ubuntu partition is inaccessible and the GRUB booter no longer
works.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 94739] Re: [nvidia-glx] Frequent lockups when NV 3d enabled

2007-04-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
'exit 0' simply causes a script to exit. So effectively, that change
causes powernowd to exit without doing anything.

I gather this indicates the bug has something to do with power
management and cpu frequency scaling.

[Bug 85751] Re: Distorted MP3 sound

2007-04-30 Thread Eris Siva
I am having the same issue with mencode/mplayer. The .deb package from
the Devede site does not work for me. Whenever I try to install Devede
or k9copy (or anything else that uses those packages), it tries to
uninstall the .deb versions and reinstall the Ubuntu (buggy) repo
versions. Even if I install the CVS pakages through Synapic, it tries to
remove them.

I had to compile Devede from source (and k9copy) to get them to work.
But it would still be nice to be able to install them the normal way
through the repositories.

Does anyone know when this is will be fixed in the official package for
mplayer/mencoder?

[Bug 111175] Add/Remove programs

2007-04-30 Thread joju
Public bug reported:

In Add/remove programs I tried to install Program manager for the case when
program hungs. It is gpe-taskmanager.
it iss part of the GPE Palmtop Environment. It displays a list of windows on
the current display, and allows the user to kill the task which owns a
particular window. This can be helpful if a program has hung and is no longer
responding to direct user actions.
Version: 0.20-2 (gpe-taskmanager)
Program manager integrates well into the Ubuntu desktop So it was described.

[Bug 85488] Re: Canon Lide25 (plustek backend) scanner does not scan via gui

2007-04-30 Thread fishor
wow. you questions made me a bit smarter this morning. I read some
documentation and this what i have:
from kernel source
Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt
Module parameters for loadable modules are specified only as the
parameter name with optional '=' and value as appropriate, such as:

modprobe usbcore blinkenlights=1

Module parameters for modules that are built into the kernel image
are specified on the kernel command line with the module name plus
'.' plus parameter name, with '=' and value if appropriate, such as:

usbcore.blinkenlights=1

This document may not be entirely up to date and comprehensive. The command
modinfo -p ${modulename} shows a current list of all parameters of a loadable
module. Loadable modules, after being loaded into the running kernel, also
reveal their parameters in /sys/module/${modulename}/parameters/. Some of these
parameters may be changed at runtime by the command
echo -n ${value}  /sys/module/${modulename}/parameters/${parm}.

It's mean you need to make:
echo -n 60  /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend
or some other timing.

it can be so easy and at same time not. The ubuntu kernel do NOT have
this option :(

[Bug 3731] Re: Xorg resolution falling back to 640x480 and/or 800x600 when h/v freqs incorrect

2007-04-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
For Feisty, xresprobe is not included in the default installation. In
theory, this should not be an issue for most people, however I think for
people who don't have xresprobe installed, if they reconfigure Xorg then
the new xorg.conf file could result in incomplete monitor detection, and
thus lead to this bug. This could also occur if the user installed a
new monitor or video card and re-ran `sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-
xorg` without first installing xresprobe. It could also occur if a user
upgrades from Edgy or Dapper to Feisty, and xresprobe gets uninstalled,
and then the user reconfigures xorg. As I understand, this was a unique
change for Feisty, and wouldn't affect Edgy or Dapper users since as I
understand xresprobe was installed by default in those.

For gutsy we've altered things such that xresprobe is once again
installed by default, so behavior should at least return to where it was
with Edgy and Dapper. In at least one dupe of this bug, having
xresprobe present seems to have helped. See bug 109908.

However, this change only gives us a partial fix; I know there are
additional problems with xresprobe that will crop up even with it
installed.

[Bug 111179] [apport] crash after envy24control -D delta_1010

2007-04-30 Thread Martin Zuther
Public bug reported:

delta_1010. My asound.conf follows:

I admit I should have read the man page first, but still, the
application should give a warning instead of crashing... :)

[Bug 94673] Re: Feisty : wrong screen definition

2007-04-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Gerard,

This is extremely interesting that it works sometimes, and doesn't work
other times. At first, this sounds exactly like bug 3731, however no
one has ever reported this working intermittently as you have. It's
very clear looking at your xorg.conf file that sometimes it detects the
monitor as L70S, and other times detects it as Generic Monitor.

Would you mind doing some tests? Could you boot the live CD a bunch of
times and for each boot, take some measurements:

For each LiveCD boot trial:
   * Does /etc/X11/xorg.conf show L705 or Generic Monitor?
   * Was xresprobe installed? (run command `which xresprobe`)
   * Did you do any unusual actions during boot (press some keys, choose
different boot options, etc.)
   * Anything else unique about this boot?

This information could prove to be extremely handy at getting insights
into this problem that many, many people are running into, so your help
would be very much appreciated!

[Bug 111180] [Feisty regression] iptables: Too many levels of symbolic links

2007-04-30 Thread Brin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

My Firewall script that previously run fine in Edgy, now fails in Feisty,
I have isolated the lines involved and run it on 3 separate Feisty machines to
confirm it fails consistently.

Run the following script to reproduce the problem, removing any one of the
lines will not produce the error,
and also changing the nlgroup to 31 (or lower) will not produce the error, so
it is a particular combination.

the last line in the script gives the following error
iptables: Too many levels of symbolic links

I have included an strace and versions below the script, if you need any
further info, please let me know.
Cheers

meaning that nautilusthumbnailer is doing what they are designed to do.

1. Azureus is loading a video file to a directory nautilus is watching.
2. Nautilus notices oh, the file changed, better create a thumbnail for it.
3. Thumbnailer runs, and usually even creates a thumbnail successfully (.avi
needs only the beginning and the end to be viewable in sane players, and those
are the parts azureus tries to fetch first).
4. Go back to step 2 because the file has already changed.

The end result is that while the file downloads nautilus continually
recreates the thumbnail wasting 100% of the CPU in the process (and this
shouldn't have anything to do with azureus, the same ought to happen
while downloading with any bittorrent client). Workaround is to download
to a directory which is not watched, but some fix to nautilus would be
nice, e.g., have some timeout before creating a new thumbnail for the
same, changed file. This is probably the same as as bug #56738.

 I think this bug must be fixed, the workaround of

Thanks for that bit of information. While I new of http://localhost:631

[Bug 94739] Re: [nvidia-glx] Frequent lockups when NV 3d enabled

2007-04-30 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Ric95:
Exactly what Bryce said.

Turning off services can be a bit fraught and the powernowd service has
two different scripts which can cause it to be run. Unfortunately
powernowd doesn't seem to support a setting in /etc/default/powernowd to
allow users to cleanly disable it in a similar manner to other
initscripts hence the need to edit the script directly.

You are bang on the money. This looks like Bug #109643 (or rather that bug

I've also experienced SVG-related problems with Firefox 2.0.0.3 Feisty.

For example, try drawing a polygon using

*not* exist on mozilla.org's Firefox 2.0.0.3.

[Bug 110917] Re: fscanf out of bounds write

2007-04-30 Thread Tollef Fog Heen
You need to check the return value of your calls; the second fscanf does
not match anything and therefore doesn't assign anything.

//Number 5
#include stdio.h
#include stdlib.h
#include inttypes.h

int main (int argc, char *argv[]) {
  int8_t *numarray = NULL;
  FILE *numfile = NULL;
  int ret;
  numarray = calloc(10, sizeof(int8_t));
  if (! numarray)
perror(calloc);
  numfile = fopen(fscanfbug.c, r);
  if (! numfile)
perror(fopen);
  if (fscanf(numfile, //Number %PRId8, numarray[8]) != 1)
printf(First fscanf returned wrong number of elements\n);
  if (fscanf(numfile, //Number %PRId8, numarray[7]) != 1)
printf(Second fscanf returned wrong number of elements\n);
  printf(The 8th number is: %PRId8\n, numarray[8]);
  printf(The 7th number is: %PRId8 (shouldn't this be the same as above?)
\n, numarray[7]);
  fclose(numfile);
  free(numarray);
  return 1;
}

if you run this, you will see that it complains at the second fscanf.

[Bug 80551] Re: openoffice fails to start if scim is the default GTK_IM_MODULE

2007-04-30 Thread xbx
in scim bug tracker, there is this similar looking bug:
[ 1618699 ] Firefox does not start when GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1618699group_id=108454atid=650539

it says:
 This should be due to weak symbol conflicts between different versions of
 libstdc++ libs.

 The workaround you suggest is probably the easiest one.
 You could also try using scim-bridge's gtk immodule instead.

 If you don't do so already you may also want to try configuring your
 scim build with --enable-ld-version-script, but this is not guaranteed
 to fix such symbol conflicts.

[Bug 98907] Re: [apport] compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in eventLoop()

2007-04-30 Thread Ge-org Brohammer
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 110662 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/110662

Hi, I'm sorry for the late response due to South African holidays.

The ubuntu utility did work before I used the gnome-compiz-manage.
After some web searching I think this problem might be coming from the
Nvidia self compiled driver. I experimented with Beryl and found that I
needed to add the following options to the xorg.conf file in addition
to just using the nvidia driver as is:

Section Device
Identifier Generic Video Card
Driver nvidia
Option UseFBDev true
Option RenderAccel true
Option AllowGLXWithComposite true
Option backingstore true
Option AddARGBGLXVisuals true
Option TripleBuffer true
EndSection

Compiz is working again but my title bars are black, beryl with the
emerald window decorator works fine.

[Bug 50041] Re: System lock on upgrade or new install

2007-04-30 Thread amadeov
I'm currently upgrading from Edgy to Feisty and my machine has been
sitting on the following step of the dist-upgrade:

Setting up a bunch of packages ..
...
Setting up ubuntu-sounds (0.6) ...
Setting up wvdial (1.56-1.1ubuntu2) ...

It's been sitting there at this step for about 45 minutes. I can open
other programs (slowly), but I don't know if I should just break the
process and hope that the upgrade is completed or not... and then, I
have no idea how this will affect my computer down the road.

I ran sudo lsb_release -a and received the message that the Release
had been upgraded to 7.04 and the Codename was upgraded to Feisty, so
I'm hoping everything's okay.

[Bug 50041] Re: System lock on upgrade or new install

2007-04-30 Thread amadeov
OK... I broke out of the process of wvdial setting up and got the
following message:

dpkg: error processing wvdial  (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)

It then continued to setting up xfonts-base and other packages...

However, now there seem to be more problems. Later on down:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of ubuntu-desktop:
 ubuntu-desktop depends on wvdial; however:
  Package wvdial is not configured yet.
dkpg: error processing ubuntu-desktop (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

I have a feeling that that can't be good.
