2007-06-05 Thread Dennis Dirdjaja
Hi Stephen,

did the sound system work, e.g. did you hear the login sound? Probably
there is a kind of sound played by AOL when you log in to their mail
application (e.g. when there is new mail for you). Can you confirm that?

Sorry for asking so much questions :-)

[Bug 118284] Re: URLs ending with a ) aren't linkified properly

2007-06-05 Thread James Henstridge
Not linkifying the closing parenthesis was a concious decision for the
reason Cesare gave. This is probably the reason that the links
Wikipedia generates for such pages look like
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robots_%28computer_game%29 (which does link
correctly).

[Bug 118732] Wireless drivers missing from Fiesty 7.04 - were there in 6.06

2007-06-05 Thread Greenport
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu 7.04 Fiesty release seems to be missing important wireless LAN
drivers. I was using 6.06 which supported my wireless card, a Belkin
F5D5000 Wireless NIC (in Windows, it uses a RealTek driver - rtl8180.sys
- if that helps), right out of the box, so to speak. I was able to use
my wireless as soon as I installed the 6.06 release.

However, when I fresh-reinstalled to 7.04, the wireless NIC didn't show
up in the list of NIC's. eth0 is there as my wired NIC (which is in the
comp but not in use) but there is no wlan0 or eth1 or anything. Further
tests showed that Kubuntu is seeing the device in the PCI devices
listing, but it just doesn't show up to Fiesty as a wireless NIC. I
searched for a driver that may be related to the NIC but can't seem to
locate one anywhere on the computer, so I've come to the conclusion that
they were accidentally left out.

an ifconfig shows the wired-ethernet card and a loopback connection, not
the wireless.

Ubuntu changes in last merge:
  * Resynchronise with Debian.
  * debian/control:
+ Adjusted libatlas-cpp-0.6-dev packagename to be compatible again with
  debian
  * Next upload should be a sync

[Bug 117314] Re: latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems

2007-06-05 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
AllanEising:
Try and remove all instances of /dev/s??? from your /etc/fstab ,
/boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume files and replace
them with UUIDs. The
blkid
command will list the UUIDs for all partitions. Do this in 2.6.20-15 so you can
see the old /dev/s??? syntax and match it to its UUID. Please be careful and
*take a back up of your /etc/fstab* because failure to make this change
correctly can stop your system booting into any kernel. I repeat, this change
is not for the faint of heart (although if you do slip up you can probably use
a LiveCD to copy the backup /etc/fstab back to the right place).

I'm not sure what the best practice for DVD/CDROMs is /dev/s???
references is... I'm speculating that using the /dev/cdrom symlinks
might be OK over in Bug #117413 but haven't seen any word that this is
the correct thing to do.

Thank you grnth969 for your report,

did it happen just once? or can it be reproducible? If so, could you
please describe how to do it step by step?

Also, can you indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled?

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 104009] Re: [feisty beta] linux-image 2.6.20-14 halts during boot

2007-06-05 Thread ashrack
Perhaps the reason why it didn't automaticly convert to UUID in fstab was
because I had installed it using the Alternative installer HERD4 to get the
bare bones install and afterwards installed GNOME-CORE, XORG, GDM. And then
some more packages when I needed them. I like to ave a system with only the
packages I need.
/offtopic
Question about LP:
When in status it says need info. And when somebody replies with the desired
info. Must that induvidual then change the status or just wait and a DEV
working here will change it.
The reason I am asking this is because I have seen quite some LP leports where
it says NEEDS INFO and the required info has been uplouded but the status still
says NEEDS INFO and no DEV have responded.
Also a similar thing happened to this LP report. This is the reason why I
changed the status to 'confirmed'. What should I do next time?

Regards
Tom

[Bug 118659] Re: PyCurl 7.15.5 not working on AMD64

2007-06-05 Thread Davide Capodaglio
Well I made a working package by rebuilding original pycurl_7.15.5_amd64 with
the applied patch, but I don't know how to do it in the official way for
feisty-proposed... what about version number, changelog, ecc?
If you can give me some hints I surely can do this.
But BTW, this shouldn't be done by Canonical since the package is in main?

[Bug 118739] Entered text is invisible in black terminals

2007-06-05 Thread Micah Cowan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: elvis

Upon installing elvis, and firing up elvisnox, I am surprised to
discover that none of the text I enter, whether in insert mode or
command mode, is at all visible on the terminal (which has a black
background). The only visible text is a black-on-green mode indication
string, and a blue-on-black indicator of the current line and column
numbers. Text is visible in a black-on-white terminal (such as the
default settings for rxvt).

This is using the default configuration, nothing whatsoever was changed
after installation.

This is surprisingly poor behavior; elvis should not need to change the
foreground color to anything other than normal mode (perhaps via
sgr0). If it does do so, then it ought to specifically set the
background color as well, and fill it entirely, so that we can have a
guarantee of visible text.

This is particularly problematic since elvis installs itself to the
alternatives system for vi with a very high priority, meaning that if
the vi alternatives are set to auto, the vi command is extremely
likely to fire up elvis if it is installed.

[Bug 117555] Re: Suspend-to-disk (hibernate) and suspend-to-ram do not work anymore

2007-06-05 Thread Anastasios Hatzis
$ uname -a
 Linux hugomobil 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Wed May 23 01:46:23 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

I wonder if a lack of free hard disk space is a potential reason for the
observed phenomena (freezing with no error message)? Maybe the upgrade from
6.10 to 7.04 has consumed some disk space reserves I had before? Unfortunately,
I can't verify this within the next 10 hours and I don't know how much
disk-space is really needed for suspend or hibernate... eventually as much as
the RAM I have (1.5GB)?

Jonathan,

Forgot to mention that. While installing the package with (kpackage) i
got a notification that i was degrading from kdm 3.5.6-20.1 to Kdm
3.5.6-20 and that caused an dependency failure. that was all the
information i got from Kpackage.

After the installation when i looked in adept i could see that the KDM
package was broken.

[Bug 112002] Re: Wrong url for the online search.

2007-06-05 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
There seem to be two bugs confused here: that search.ubuntu.com is down
(which I reported as bug 118730), and that the requested URL contains
6.10 instead of 7.04 or gutsy (which I reported as bug 118731).

If this bug report is about the former, bug 118731 should not have been
marked as a duplicate. If it is about the latter, it should be assigned
not to Matthew Nuzum, but to someone on the desktop team.

[Bug 39145] Re: Request to update Greek dictionary

2007-06-05 Thread Nick Demou
Ouaou this is a really old version that we have at debian then.
yeah it realy is :(

If I can't get any of the greek debian developers to do it,
I'm gone try and make the package my self.
either one would be wonderful :)

How where all those words added? It's huge!
Where those words even checked for correctness at all?
most if not 99% of them are correct

Can you post here the changes that you would like to see Nick
or even better post a patch against version 0.7 of the myspell dictionary?
well Steve Stavropoulos has all we need and nothing more here:
   http://elspell.math.upatras.gr/files/ooffice/el_GR.zip
3 text files in total:
 - the new dictionary of words (el_GR.dic)
 - the improved aff file (rules for myspell) (el_GR.aff)
 - a README including the licence (MPL 1.1/GPL 2.0/LGPL 2.1)
AFAIK replace the files with the same name withing the debian package and we've
got ourselves better spell checking out of the box
If there is anything else I can do to help I'll be available

[Bug 104009] Re: [feisty beta] linux-image 2.6.20-14 halts during boot

2007-06-05 Thread Tormod Volden
The alternative installer should also have installed an fstab with UUID,
but maybe it wasn't ready yet in Herd 4.

About LP: You can set it back to Unconfimed when you have answered.
However, it is really the one who asks the questions (that would be me
here) that should react when answers are given. Sorry, I missed this
one. I think that the newest, recommended practice is that the one who
asks assigns the bug to himself until answers are given. Then he can
follow up on his assigned bugs, and set the bug to
Confirmed/Unconfirmed/etc depending on the information given.

If you see some bugs untouched for a long time with Needsinfo, but
questions are answered, please feel free to set them back to what they
were before (see their activity log).

[Bug 118742] Potential typo in /ubiquity/scripts/install.py

2007-06-05 Thread Nathan Collins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

In the method mount_source() the code

misc.execute('mount', '-t', 'unionfs', '-o',
 'dirs=' + map(lambda x: '%s=ro' % x, self.mountpoints),
 'unionfs', self.source)

occurs at lines 684-686 (in the 1.5.1 source I downloaded). I think the
middle line doesn't make sense, apparently concatenating a string with a
list of strings, and that you probably meant

  'dirs=' + ':'.join(map(lambda x: '%s=ro' % x,
self.mountpoints)),

instead. I think you want to join() on ':' since the unionfs man page
says colon is the separator for directories in the dirs option.

Sorry if I'm wasting your time. I was reading the install.py code while
waiting for the installer to finish (yeah, I was kind of bored :) ) and
I noticed that line that doesn't seem to make sense. I didn't actually
observe an error.

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

Re: [Bug 84537] Re: sysctl.conf, net.ipv4.conf.default.forwarding, race condition?

2007-06-05 Thread Jukka Suomela
Hello,

On 5/8/07, Yves Junqueira [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Do you still use this system where you were having problems? If so, can
you check if you're using upstart or sysvinit?

I have upgraded the system to the latest Ubuntu, but I can try to
check these details from the backups.

try running /sbin/init --version and see if it's upstart or else.

At the time I was experiencing the problems, the system was an
up-to-date Ubuntu edgy, and /sbin/init --version displayed the
following: init (upstart 0.2.7)

Also, was that interface using DHCP or static addresses?

eth0 uses DHCP, eth1 uses static addresses.

I do not know if the bug has been fixed in the latest version of
Ubuntu; I am still using the workaround that I mentioned in the
original bug report.

Kind regards,
Jukka Suomela
