 Hi,

[Bug 93603] Re: RFE: Add more php5 extensions (like php5-gmp)

2007-07-09 Thread David Phillips
Reply to RichardNeill:

Not tested, but basic idea is to see how the existing module packages,
such as curl, are built and add our own.

mkdir php
cd php
apt-get source php5
cd php5-5.2.1
$EDITOR debian/rules - find --with-curl line and add configure option
$EDITOR debian/modulelist - add module
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
cd ..

You should have your fresh .deb files ready for install.

[Bug 65533] Re: dansguardian installation / configuration not user friendly

2007-07-09 Thread Tom Haddon
I can reproduce this bug. It occurs because the lists files don't exist.

I'm not sure whether you are supposed to create those yourself or to get
them from some external source. I need to setup dansguardian myself for
a community computer center, so I'll look further into this and see what
I can find.

[Bug 124841] Re: 2.6.20-16 kernel suddenly crashing with TPPS/2

2007-07-09 Thread Will
PLEASE *DELETE*/release/remove this bug
I guess I was thinking or something but upon furthur investigation this error
was caused by modprobe unexpectedly failing due to the fact that the Intel
4965AGN iwlwifi modules I was installing right before this happened were
compiled wrong and had some conflicts. Anyways I blacklisted the modules for
now while I try to fix this core problem. My system can boot now so this is
resolved.

Seems you can download this one time from URLBlacklist.com for free, but
if you need it on an ongoing basis, you'll need to purchase a

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
doesn't yet have enough information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by
the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log and attach the resulting file
dmesg.log to this bug report.
3. Please run the command lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at [WWW]

[Bug 124856] DiskFilesystems module does not load after plugging in iPod

2007-07-09 Thread fluffman86
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-guidance

This bug is similar to 109273 kde systemsettings module Disk
Filesystems does not load in that I get the same error. There are a
few differences, though:

On this computer, I am running Kubuntu Feisty 7.04 with a 2.6.20-16
kernel. This computer has 1 internal HDD (160GB), 2 optical drives, an
AMD 64 Athlon processor, and an nVidia 6200GT OC video card. When I
open Disk Filesystems under System Settings on the KMenu, everything
displays properly - including the 3 partitions (FAT 32 for Windows
restore, NTFS for Windows, and ext3 for Kubuntu) and the Swap. I can
add DVD's, CD's, my FAT32 thumbdrive, or my External NTFS 160GB HDD with
no problems. Everything will pop up and ask what I want to do with it,
and if I go to Disk Filesystems I can make changes to the disks --
like changing the mount point, etc.

The BANE of my Linux existence, however, is my 80GB video iPod. When I
plug this in, everything pops up like normal, and I get a fancy little
icon on the desktop. BUT, if I want to change the mount point using
Disk Filesystems, I get the Module does not load error, telling me
that something went wrong during an upgrade without giving me any
warnings or anything.

This happens EVERY time I plug in my ipod, and it has taken me a couple
of weeks and 3 re-installs of Kubuntu to figure out why this is
happening.

So, to recap:
1. Plug in iPod
2. Open new window or Do nothing - both work and both add the iPod icon to the
desktop.
3. Attempt to access Disk Filesystem via System Settings on the K Menu
4. Receive error messages saying that there are no messages, but still
attempting to guess at what you did wrong.
5. click administrator mode and notice that nothing changes.
5. pull out what little hair is left
6. right-click iPod icon on desktop, then click safely remove
7. re-access disk filesystems with now problems.

I can live without this functionality, of course. Thanks for looking
into this!

[Bug 124855] please merge initramfs-tools from Debian (unstable)

2007-07-09 Thread Maxence DUNNEWIND
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initrd-tools

Merge from 0.89 debian version.

initramfs-tools (0.89ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- Add support for sunvnet and sunvdc in hook-functions.
- fix nfsroot handling if rootserver is specified with IP and colon in
  root-path
- Add support for alternative prerequisites, specified as e.g.
kbd|console-tools (note the lack of spaces around the |).
- Allow modules specified by force_load to be blacklisted
- Drop scripts/init-premount/thermal since this can be handled by using
  force_load now
- Make sure framebuffer modules can be blacklisted
- Drop mdrun script, since this can be handled entirely within the udev
and initramfs scripts supplied by the mdadm package
- As well as waiting for the existance of the root device node, also check
to see whether we have a filesystem of some kind on it. Some devices
nodes (devmapper/LVM/EVMS, mdadm) will exist before they can be safely
  used
- Add patch to restore initramfs on failures. Taken from Debian's
  initramfs-tools git repo (5dfd85f416a10b1c41ca7005de38b58715c04472).
- While we're here, remove snd_ps3 from autoload list on PS3. Isn't in
initramfs. Installer will add it to /etc/modules.
- Add support for the netboot variable, used by casper.
- Use -Qb for ppc thermal modprobe's
- Add snd_ps3 to ps3 module loads. Use -Qb here too
- hook-functions: Add udf to dep_add_modules and auto_add_modules
- Copy all of drivers/block/ to initramfs. Can't believe we didn't do this
  before
- Add init-premount hook to manually load modules for ps3. These modules
do not have aliases or auto-load features, so have to do it by hand
  (ps3-system-bus)
- For auto module inclusions, detect when we need to pack ps3 modules
- Remove the 10MB size restriction from /dev; this doesn't make sense for
Ubuntu since we use /dev for initramfs/realfs handover and for things
  like bootchart
- Add aic94xx firmware hooks
- Don't load vga16fb on amd64 either. usplash 0.4-36 fixes things so that
  we don't need it
- Change Build-Depends to Build-Depends-Indep
- Use busybox-initramfs for Depends
- RESUME UUID upgrade
- add_firmware addition to hook-functions
- Use copy_modules_dir for auto module copying
- noexec,nodev,nosuid options for /sys and /proc
- Do not source udev.conf
- Set BUSBOXDIR properly
- Keep kinit and gzip in initrd
- Use -Qb for for module loading to honor blacklists
- all_generic_ide script
- Remove lvm local-top script (conflicts with lvm-common)
- takeover=1 in update-initramfs
- Remove udev_helper local-top script. It loads ide-generic, and we don't
  want that

[Bug 117899] Re: ps2 keyboard does not work on VIA chipset mainboard

2007-07-09 Thread Scott Testerman
I also have this problem with a PS/2 keyboard running on a VIA chipset
motherboard.

The keyboard does not work:
* when booting into Recovery mode (runlevel 1).

The keyboard does work:
* in the BIOS Setup;
* in GRUB;
* when booting into full graphical mode (runlevel 2);
* after switching from full graphical mode into single user mode (sudo init 1);
* in any mode using Knoppix 5.1.1, openSUSE 10.2, and Fedora 7.

The keyboard previously worked correctly in:
* Ubuntu 6.06;
* Ubuntu 6.10.

The keyboard worked sometimes under previous Ubuntu 7.04 kernel
revisions if the Num Lock key was pressed immediately after the boot
process switched off the Num Lock light. Changing the Num Lock setting
in the BIOS has no effect on the problem.

For reference, my specific keyboard is a Unicomp Customizer (formerly
Lexmark, formerly IBM), and can be found at http://www.pckeyboard.com/ .

Other helpful output is attached.

[Bug 40503] Re: Synaptics touchpad detection (regression)

2007-07-09 Thread Ulfzart
I mean, that if there is another methods to check for the laptop
platform, they should be used, but still, we need to check, whether the
computer uses battery or not. If the hardware is old, there is no way to
hotplug the battery (correct me if I'm wrong), so some people will use
the laptop without it, and they don't need some battery-modules in the
memory, that will just slow down the system. Also they won't be able to
hotplug the battery (even if thay do... then the modules should be
loaded). That was my idea.

Thank you.

[Bug 124860] Printing from Evolution Mail does not respond

2007-07-09 Thread Evan Makundi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I added a Network Printer on my Ubuntu installation. This is a HP Laserjet 4200
printer using wireless print server.
I tried to add the printer as a network printer but it could not work at all,
Eventually I decide to look from shared the printers from a windows xp Machine

to print using open office, Thunderbitd and other applications but the problem

What about the volume control? I removed the volume control applet from

Re: [Bug 124795] Re: Cannot utime: Operation not permitted

2007-07-09 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
I've seen that the manual says that the default security is that files
and directories are created with the effective user and group of the
mounting process, and have full access for everyone. I used the guid
and umask options to change the security to have full access only for
owner and group. I changed this because it is not acceptable that
everyone has full permissions.

but I cannot understand why tar gives errors... If I have write
permissions on a folder, shouldn't I be able to create and delete
files on it? Why should I be the same user of who mounts the ntfs
partition?

I created a folder in an ext3 partition with the same permissions
(755) and tar does not print errors...

drwxrwx--- 1 root ntfs 4096 2007-07-08 23:52 Dati (ntfs-3g)
drwxrwx--- 3 root ntfs 4096 2007-07-09 09:43 test (ext3)

What am I missing?

This behavior is limiting as I can use the ntfs partition as /home
(and I think also /, even if I would never do it) only without
restricting the default permissions

Thank you

it.

[Bug 124865] selinux is not enabled with upstart

2007-07-09 Thread Rui Bernardo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

When trying to install SElinux in Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty, I noticed that
upstart doesn't work with SElinux.

To reproduce this you must do the following:

- Activate selinux in kernel boot options in GRUB:
edit the file /boot/grub/menu.lst, and add selinux=1 in the # kopt=
line. Run sudo update-grub and reboot.

- Install the SElinux packages:
  sudo apt-get install selinux-basics selinux-utils checkpolicy
policycoreutils selinux-policy-refpolicy-targeted

- Reboot to activate SElinux. After rebooting Ubuntu with upstart, when
you execute the command sestatus the output is:

SELinux status: disabled

If you install the package sysvinit, the shutdown is not performed. It
ends with:

init: timeout opening/writing control channel /dev/initctl

I think thats another bug. It only happens the first time, just after
installing the sysvinit package. To conclude the reboot, you have to
either use Linux Magic Keys (Alt+SysRq) or press the reset button on the
computer box.

After rebooting with the package sysvinit installed, if you execute
the sestatus command with the package sysvinit installed, the output
is:

SELinux status: enabled
SELinuxfs mount:/selinux
Current mode: permissive
Mode from config file: permissive
Policy version: 21
Policy from config file:refpolicy-targeted

I have tried many many times, but apparently SElinux doesn't work
without the sysvinit package installed.
