[Bug 128432] Packages compiled with 4 versions of libdb

2007-07-25 Thread Allan MacKinnon
Public bug reported:

There are 4 versions of libdb in the repos and all are hooked into
various gnome components and other important programs.

Why aren't they all compiled to use the most recent version (4.5)
instead of being spread over four different versions (4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and
4.5)?

[Bug 80551] Re: openoffice fails to start if scim is the default GTK_IM_MODULE

2007-07-25 Thread arm-c
I will not belabour the point that the issue is with the ATI video card.
The simple fix for me was to edit the last line of the soffice.sh

 /etc/openoffice/soffice.sh

File contents:

# configuration file to set up some environment variables for OOo

# File locking; possible values are:
# - yes: enable file locking unconditionally
# - no: disable file locking
# - auto: enable file locking, when the document is found on a nfs share
# If the environment variable SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING is set,
# the setting if ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING has no effect.

FILE_LOCKING=auto

# OpenGL support; may cause trouble with the restricted nvidia and fglrx
# drivers; possible values are:
# - yes: enable OpenGL support unconditionally
# - no: disable OpenGL support.
# - auto: only enable OpenGL support, if not running with the restricted
# nvidia and fglrx drivers.
# If the environment variable SAL_NOOPENGL is set,
# the setting if OPENGL_SUPPORT has no effect.

OPENGL_SUPPORT=auto

Fixed it for me in OOo. Thanks for all the clues to the real issue
here.

[Bug 119392] Re: Nautilus won't copy cd, closes unexpectedly at 'create disc image' progress bar window.

2007-07-25 Thread rhaag71
I can confirm that something is wrong...

so far today, I tried to write a cd ISO to a blank cd in the burner, and
it display the Please put a disc, with at least xxx.x KiB free, into
the drive. The following disc types are supported: message. Also if I
try to copy a cd from one drive to another I get the same and also if I
insert a blank cd and try to write from the 'cd' folder by choosing
'write to disc'. If this is in fact a bug, then it is not the one that I
posted early last month, and probably should be moved to a new thread.
The bug that was originally posted here was a problem with Nautilus,
Nautilus would not create the image before burning. My work around last
month was to use K3b, and that is what worked today.

[Bug 124642] Re: MacBook makes whining noise when uhci-hcd loaded

2007-07-25 Thread Tim Hull
Upon further testing, it seems like the likely cause for this is 2.6.21+
having BETTER power management support - and, thus, entering the lower
C-states. I did test disabling tickless operation, and it made the
issue worse. I decided to close this because the issue also exists in
Mac OS X and the lack of a problem in 2.6.18 seems like an aberration.

[Bug 128445] package manager error

have been a problem with the installation and it does not work and i get

an archive for it.

Iver tried alot of different methods to remove, like apt-get remove or
purge etc. and nothing happens. since i got this error i cant download
anything using apt-get or use package manager. I really don't want to
go back to vista, i started to really like Ubuntu and the apt-get
features on it and everything else.

Hi Cesare, thanks for your work on this package again. One point about
merges - the changelog should only mention outstanding Ubuntu changes
that are additional to the Debian changes, so if Ubuntu changes are
thrown away they need not be mentioned, (i.e. the changelog should
mention the added .desktop file and the Maintainer: field change).
Thanks.

[Bug 128431] Adonthell - Waste's Edge doesn't install the game/waste's edge menu entry, should install adonthell-data instead

2007-07-25 Thread VF
Public bug reported:

Installing adonthell - waste's edge from g-a-i in feisty does not
actually install the game or a menu entry pointing to this. This is
because the game and menu entry is actually in adonthell-data while

[Bug 66483] Re: Sound crackles snaps when SDL volume not set at 100%

2007-07-25 Thread Jeff250
I was looking at the alsa code this evening and noticed that putting the
following line into ~/.asoundrc should be a workaround for my issue:
defaults.pcm.dmix_max_periods -1
It seems to have solved the problem without any side effects, but only for some
applications. Without this option, supertux is staticy, yet with it, it isn't.
However, rott is just as staticy with this option as without. I don't really
understand the alsa code enough to truly grok this option's implications. If
you find that it resolves some issues, such as with supertux, it might be worth
posting in the alsa bug thread that I started.

[Bug 125187] Re: flashplugin-nonfree never installs plugin due to md5sum mismatch

2007-07-25 Thread Zig007
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 125986 ***

Morris:

Hrm... Not having flash is a serious problem for the normal users, making
webpages important to them inoperable. For several weeks!
In their eyes, it means linux sucks horse*#¤%.
Things like this should be top priority (yeah, top) to fix. It is actually of
equally importance to a remote exploit. A show stopper for the user.
There are actually some things to learn from M$. Being a bit more pragmatic.

So...I know that you're probably kidding, but i am a little allergic to
that attitude amongst linux-folks, since it has played such a big part
in slowing both development and user adoption of desktop linux.

I am sorry if i overreacted a little bit.

If you run it (in debug mode) and then hit cancel at the confirm your

but I cannot honestly see how it would modify your computer. Just make

[Bug 115687] Update2 released! What's up with Ubuntu repos?

2007-07-25 Thread Grzegorz
There is already update 2 to java 6 realeased by Sun. Why Ubuntu repositories
are still not updated? On Windows machine I got already automatic message from
Java updates found - why Ubuntu does not keep up with it?
As it was stated already: Ubuntu Feisty was declared to contain full Java
stack - but Java 6 (update0) is virtually useless on Compiz, and contains
some bugs.
Please update the sun-java6 package to version 6 update 2 !
This seems very simple job - the JDK6u2 is shipped already (perhaps will
require some repackaging) simply put it into Ubuntu repositories. As simple as
that, and should help many people using Swing applications on Ubuntu.

2007-07-25 Thread Evan Dandrea
informatico,

I'm fairly sure this is a duplicate of another bug, but lets err on the
side of caution. Does this problem still occur with the latest daily CD
images? If you run the installer with --debug (`ubiquity --debug` in a
terminal window), does the problem still occur? Can you attach
/var/log/installer/debug (created by --debug) and /var/log/syslog if the
problem persists.

Thanks!

[Bug 114866] Re: Export-to-EPS is broken

2007-07-25 Thread Gerhard Kremer
Ravi,

Yes, the dependency of gv and evince on gs-esp is quite annoying (in
fact, I think it's a bug in itself).

However, you don't need Acrobat Reader; you can use your favorite
programs by having gs-esp installed to satisfy their deps but telling
the OS to use gs-gpl instead. To do that, install both gs-gpl and gs-esp
(plus gv, evince or the viewer you want, of course) and then type at a
terminal:

sudo update-alternatives --config gs

You'll see a menu list of all installed gs drivers. Choose gs-gpl.
That's what will be used. You can use gv, evince co. without problems.

(I suggest you rememeber update-alternatives for the future. It's a very
useful command).

Hope this helps,

GK.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 83290 ***

I completely understand that this process may not be intuitive but the
correct thing to do instead of opening a new bug report would be to
indicate that the original bug also exists in linux-source-2.6.22. I
have done this to the original bug report by clicking the Also affects
distribution link. I then choose Ubuntu as the distribution and added
that it affected package linux-source-2.6.22. I am going to mark this
bug as a duplicate of that one. If you could please add your dmidecode
information to the original bug report as that does not have anyone's
dmidecode information that would be helpful.

[Bug 126934] Re: mdadm-RAID compromises bootup process

2007-07-25 Thread Harald Rudell
Comparing a fresh install with a alternate-desktop installed as
single0drive, upgraded to raid, then 6.10-7.04:

#1. Both systems suffer from bug Bug #108971. Message mdadm : No devices
listed in conf file were found on boot-up right after Loading, please wait...
This is fixed by adding /sbin/udevsettle to the end of
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/udev,
then issue command update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r` and reboot

#2. This starts raid before raid is supposed to be started, and the upgraded
system therefore gives an error message:
Begin: Assembling MD array /dev/md1 ...
mdadm: device /dev/md1 already active - cannot assemble it
Failure: failed to start /dev/md1
It is unclear if this has any functional impact. The root cause is that the
/conf/md.conf file in the RAM file system image initrd.img-... contains
MD_DEVS='/dev/md1' instead of MD_DEVS='all' which is the case for fresh install
(The image can be examined by cpio -i /boot/initrd.img... that unpacks it to
the current directory)
This can be fixed by inserting MD_DEVS=all on line 94 (the line after
..MD_DEGRADED..)in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/mdadm and
issuing update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r` and reboot

#3. Then I had a message * Mount point '/var/run' does not exist.
Skipping mount. just prior to * Reading files needed to boot... This
originated from /etc/rcS.d/S01mountkernfs.sh and was caused by the
/var/run folder missing on the root raid partition. This may be my
mistake since an installed system was converted to raid.

#4. There is, when everything works, a message * Stopping MD array
md2... [fail] just before * Will now restart message on shutdown.
This appears to have no impact. Also Red Hat has similar issues.

I hope that helps someone

Harald Rudell

[Bug 127769] Re: nvidia-glx working on 6.06, but don't on 7.04

2007-07-25 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Juliano:
They might not be the same driver (e.g. the NVIDIA driver being used in 2.6.15
is older than the one you are using with 2.6.20) or your hardware is being
driven in a fashion that the NVIDIA driver no longer agrees with in a new
kernel (e.g. the new kernel is detecting your hardware in a different fashion
causing two devices to conflict...). It's hard to say without detailed
information though. Sometimes you can glean clues as to what the issue is by
looking in
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
and the output of running
dmesg
. We would really need to see the output of those things after things become
slow to stand any chance of solving the problem...
