[Bug 92879] Re: gnome-sound-recorder unable to playback
OK, see my last comment in upstream bugzilla - gnome-media from SVN, both with and without the proposed patch applied, exhibit the same buggy behavior. So it's not this patch that introduces the new regression, but either some other changes in grecord (which seems very inactive though), or other libraries. In other words, testing on Gutsy can't indicate whether it fixes things for Feisty, so could please someone make a testing .deb for Feisty? [Bug 109843] Re: New Feisty update automatically removes big chunks of KDE
Sorry, its probably just me, but I don't understand the nature of the bug you are reporting. It looks like you did a dist-upgrade and are concerned by the fact that kdebase (and other core kde packages) are automatically removed? Looks like aptitude removing what it thinks are unused packageswas kubuntu-desktop installed? If not, then this might explain what happened. After installing kdebase manually as I see you did at the end of the screen capture above, did aptitude try and remove it again if you try an aptitude dist-upgrade (ie, is this apparent removal of kdebase by aptitude repeatable)? [Bug 85488] Re: some usb_devices fault if usb_suspend enabled
i've been following this thread for some time now with a mood of increasing depression... a year ago i was running 6.06 (kubuntu). it was my first experience of ubuntu and i was pretty happy. everything was working ok. i failed to get 6.10 to install. i must have tried every option there was, but i couldn't do it. so i stuck with 6.06. i got a new computer at the same time that 7.04 came out. on it went! and, fantastic, i could suspend it, something i could never do with 6.06. well, a month or so later there was an update to KDE, which i installed using Adept. the next time i started the computer, no KDE at all. after much googling (using Windows), i found that i had no swap disk, so i had to type some guid into a config file or two somewhere. i got KDE working...but it had no status bar or Start button. it took me more hours and more googling to get it all working again. in the course of my googling i discovered that this lost swap disk seemed to have been reported as a problem with the suspend functionality. ok then, i won't use suspend any more. then i needed to use my scanner. everything was black. more google, then go to a Windows machine (much merriment at my expense) to get the document scanned. so, i have black scans because someone decided to ship a suspend feature that caused me several hours of grief. arrrghh. i confess that i *assumed* that a bug like this would get fixed PDQ. i really could not believe the discussion in this thread. i've been dipping in every couple of weeks and it never gets any better. i am not the kind of user to compile my own kernel. i'll happily run some script before starting the scanner, but custom kernels? no way. i have a common scanner, which worked fine on 6.06. i can understand something getting broken by a new release (after all, Windows does it all the time) but i do expect such things to be fixed. to me, this is more important than adding new features. (why do i need a new feature if it's going to break at the next release?) jack -- some usb_devices fault if usb_suspend enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/85488 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 112915] Re: Synaptics touchpad doesn't work fully after upgrading from edgy to feisty
So, I fixed the problem, here's the description. The bottom line, this wasn't a kernel bug (for me). It seems to be, there were at least two bugs that I kept mixing up. The other was, that the kernel psmouse driver didn't recognize the Alps touchpad, so synaptics in xorg didn't work. It turns out this was not my problem. My problem was probably more related to udev rules or the upgrade process or something. The problem was, that kernel changed the 'Handler' identification of the alps device in /proc/bus/input/devices between 2.6.17 (edgy) and 2.6.20 (feisty). This change, however, wasn't propagated through to the upgrade process so that my xorg.conf file would've been updated. So the end result was, that I had the wrong device listed the in xorg.conf file in the InputDevice section for the synaptics driver. I might've had some issues in the upgrade from edgy to feisty, I have a vague recollection, so maybe the upgrade process just didn't run cleanly for me, and the xorg.conf file wasn't updated properly. The bottom line is however, that both the feisty and the gutsy kernel work for me now in my feisty installation, so this bug can be closed. br, juhis -- Synaptics touchpad doesn't work fully after upgrading from edgy to feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112915 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 128952] Re: Kubuntu is not localized according to system settings
Technically the bug is invalid because ,as ZhengPeng explained, kubuntu-desktop is the englisch desktop. On the other hand as a wish to implement simpler default language handling it's IMHO valid. The default language during installation can be found with: debconf-get-selections --installer | grep debian-installer/language AFAIU installing other pkgs from a postinst will not work (due to locking) so implementing a 'autoinstall-default-language-pkgs' it not easy. [Bug 129025] [gutsy] animations and video watching aren't possible with an external monitor on an Intel laptop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I am using a Sony TX2 laptop which is shipped with Intel 915 onboard graphic. I have checked the new Intel driver with the second Ubuntu Gutsy Live CD (Tribe 3) which is shipped with the xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.1.0-1ubuntu1) driver and Xorg 7.3 git. It works fine with my external monitor (1680x1050) if I change the driver from i810 to intel in xorg.conf but it doesn't shut down the LFP like the old i810-modesetting driver. It always show an extract of the external on the LFP (1366x768). It is possible with xrandr to disable LFP (xrandr --output LVDS --off) but Video watching or 3D animations are still impossible because of huge lags and displaced output. It seems that the monitor was disabled but the graphic card doesn't realized that. I don't have this problems with videos with i810-modesetting since this disables the monitor in xorg.conf with MonitorLayout. But since i810-modesetting couldn't display my native laptop resolution I have to switch between the standard i810 driver (the Feisty intel driver couldn't display 1366x768 too) and modesetting everytime I want to use the external or the internal. ** Affects: xorg-server (upstream) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: Freedesktop Bugzilla #11722 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11722 ** Also affects: xorg-server (upstream) via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11722 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- [gutsy] animations and video watching aren't possible with an external monitor on an Intel laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129025 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
Pitwalker; Nobody with a little computer experience, and a rough understanding of the installer language should risk loosing data unless they choose to ignore a warning that they should understand.. The program which installs Ubuntu from the live CD is called Ubiquity. If the warnings are not clear to you, please file a bug against ubiquity and provide an example of how the installer can universally communicate the risk of data loss, and instruct the user on how they can prevent loss of valuable data. In general, the easier it is to loose large amounts of data, the clearer the warnings need to be. However, ultimately, any user who has valuable data must either make backups or loose it (hardware failures and user errors will always eventually eat data which is not backed up). -- Microsoft has a majority market share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 129026] GNOME Weather Report custom location problem
Public bug reported: I decided to start using GNOME Weather Report, so I added it to my panel. However, I found out that although it included many small locations, towns, and even villages in Greece, it didn't include Ioannina, one of the 5 bigger cities in Greece (and as you probably supposed, my hometown). So, I decided to add my own, custom entry for it, at /usr/share/gnome-applets/gweather/Locations.xml so I can be aware of the weather conditions in my location. In the Greece element, I added (keeping alphabetical order) the location element, with name Ioannina, English name Ioannina, and Greek name Ιωάννινα. I added the city code, LGIO and the coordinates. I saved, and then I selected it through the GNOME Weather Report interface. But, it couldn't find any information, it couldn't update, so, it didn't display me the current weather conditions. So, please, either add Ioannina to the GNOME Weather Report, or see why it couldn't find any information.
