times out while trying to associate. (Check the log excerpt)

[Bug 131229] bad fonts in firefox

2007-08-09 Thread zzwave
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

Firefox uses Gnome font settings for interface elements, but these fonts
are with wrong size or just looks oddly.

Select for example fixed-misc 10 font for all fonts in Gnome, look at
beautiful clear fonts at Gnome buttons, menus etc, and then check how it
looks in Firefox.

Firefox 2.0.0.6 from official Ubuntu repository, Ubuntu 7.04.

[Bug 82060] Re: A web page Firefox can't print.

2007-08-09 Thread Tomdkat
I found similar behavior on this Netgear printer compatibility list
page:

http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101216.asp

Print Preview shows what will actually print and only the first page of
content will print. In Print Preview, the printer table runs off the
bottom of the page, similarly to the C++ pitfalls page mentioned above.

The Netgear page prints fine in Opera 9.22 on Windows.

[Bug 131230] nanosleep never returns

2007-08-09 Thread Kees Cook
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

The sleep 0.1 in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local never
returns. (As a result, my delayed root filesystem is never noticed.)
An alt-sysrq-F to kill the sleep causes the boot to finish.

Testing during a break=mount, this hang is 100% reproduceable on my
amd64 machine. Even when rebuilding the initramfs with both the regular
sleep and a recompiled klibc-utils sleep all show the same behavior of
a hanging nanosleep. After bootup is finish, nanosleep behaves
normally. (!?)

[Bug 120943] Re: Update nvidia-glx-new package to latest 100 series driver

Using 8800gts, with the nv driver, there's no support for dual screens.
with the nvidia-glx driver installed with restricted manager, there's a no

with Alberto's Envy (slightly modified to recognize gutsy), 3d acceleration,
twinview works.

Since not using this driver removes several, popular use cases, I think that
the driver should be upgraded.

[Bug 131234] missing word in emacs built-in tutorial

2007-08-09 Thread Amir Eldor
Public bug reported:

(GNU Emacs is as old as me so I hope I'm not saying something stupid)

I've been reading the built-in tutorial (C-h t) and found a small
'mistake'...

In the BUFFERS sections when they teach you how to switch buffers:
(error): Then type C-b TUTORIAL Return to come back to this tutorial.
(better): Then type C-x b TUTORIAL Return to come back to this tutorial.
That's line 622 with the default font on the X GUI emacs window.

C-b just moves backwards one character (like the left arrow key) while
the sequence C-x b is used to choose a different buffer.

steps I do to get to this line:
1) install emacs metapackage
2) F2, run emacs
3) C-h t
4) M-x goto-line Return 622 Return
5) being sad

Re: [Bug 30665] Re: [Dapper] Buttons show artifacts with 16MB ATI Radeon M6 LY

2007-08-09 Thread Adam Barbary
Hi,

Yes I can confirm that with my machine that there are no longer
artifacts as of Feisty. However my machine is no longer a standard
install. I am using the radeon driver, and several switches. I can
provide a copy of my xorg.conf if you like. I also want to point out
that initially the artifacts appeared only in certain themes, in
particular the default Human theme.

This card is a rotten choice for my Sony Vaio as it lacks the memory to
initiate 3D due to the 1400 x 1050 panel installed. However I believe
that it gets around this by using apgart to share memory with the
system. Unfortunately this fails during the loading of X and hence there
is insufficient RAM for 24 bit color DRI.

Cheers,

Adam.

   Change this to the correct
architecture - this one is for i386

[Bug 131238] Please package latest plone version (2.5.3 or 3.0)

2007-08-09 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zope-cmfplone

Plone in Ubuntu is outdated - latest release from 2.5 series is 2.5.3
(released in May), it's a mandatory update, according to
http://plone.org/products/plone/releases/2.5.3 :

Important security fixes for potential XSS vulnerabilities, faster and
more robust migration code, and more. A mandatory update.

Release Notes:
Includes fixes related to the Zope XSS vulnerability, more efficient and robust
upgrade/migration code, re-enables user skin selection, i18n improvements and
other bugfixes.
* The recommended Zope version for this release is now 2.9.7+. It can
optionally be used with Zope 2.8.9 by installing the latest Five 1.2.x release
* Important: Running any earlier versions of Zope with this version of
Plone will not work, since we require the security changes in Zope 2.9.7 (or
2.8.9 if you're still running your site on 2.8.x). The installers contain the
correct versions, but if you're doing a manual install/setup, make sure you
have the right version of Zope.

Btw, if you will not fix this bug in 2 weeks, then maybe better is to
package plone 3.0, which release candidate 2 was released July 27, 2007,
final release is expected 2007/08/21 - for more info look at

[Bug 129226] Re: kernel oops after resuming from suspend to RAM

2007-08-09 Thread Peter Clifton
Thanks for the pointer to the git repo.

Whilst I can happily track changes to source packages in Ubuntu, rebuild
them etc..., check launchpad - its often a bit of a mystery where the
cutting edge work goes on behind the scenes. As the developers bugzilla
posts are probably trying to be user-friendly, thereI never seems to be
a lot of linking to the underlying technical stuff.

For the curious like me, could you point me to which commit you reverte
to fix the issue? I only see:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=zul/ubuntu-
gutsy.git;a=commitdiff;h=8444584e11e4c80a1bde56152db8bb615c242bc1

There didn't appear to be an explanation in the log why it was reverted
though. Was that the one, just config changes?

If so, doesn't this mean there is still some underlying kernel bug which
is just set off by a particular config?

[Bug 35501] Re: screensaver make crash GDM

2007-08-09 Thread Pierpaolo Follia
I don't think this workaround solves the problem.
I don't have gutsy, I'm using feisty with Xgl and the latest fglrx driver. The
gnome-screensaver-preferences is working fine for me, without modifications to
the launcher. The creash happens only when the screen saver is activated.
Sometimes I have no crash at all, but more often, as soon as the screen saver
starts, GDM crashes.
Launching gnome-screensaver on dysplay 0 doesn't change anything for me, it
crashes as always.

(otherwise) black and the spinning cursor is shown. As soon as the
Ubuntu login screen comes up, everything looks fine.

Let me know if I can provide more information or run some tests.

Thank you for looking into this.

[Bug 108057] Re: Romanian layout with ș and ț in it is not among the options in the GUI

2007-08-09 Thread Mihai Capotă
The users affected may very well install the update from Microsoft even
after they access text with the comma characters. They see the text is
rendered incorrectly and they install the update. Problem solved. I've
seen it happen numerous times amongst people I communicate with.

[Bug 108057] Re: Romanian layout with ș and ț in it is not among the options in the GUI

2007-08-09 Thread Jani Monoses
Mihai: XP users will probably not know where to get that patch, or they would
have gotten it by now. I think they'll just get annoyed.
There's enough garbage fonts on various sites for them to assume something is
broken at the sender/website.

Ctomer: depends on how many pepe will use the new Ubuntu, it may or not may be
significant. You need to think it as a percentage of
Romanian users not of everyone. Otherwise we may claim this bug affects an even
smaller fraction of users :)

Mișu (heh, a side effect of this thread is that I actually may start using
diacritics :) : the bug is indeed in xkeyboard-config not the UI.
/etc/X11/xkb/rules/base.xml, part of xkb-data only lists the 3 romanian
layouts, so both Debian installer (and Ubiquity) and the GNOME keyboard dialog
will show those.
Do you agree this needs a change at xkeyboard-config level?

2007-08-09 Thread ctomer
So lets assume Academic is set to default in Ubuntu's next release. How
many Windows XP user will be affected by this change? It would only be
Romanian XP users who access content written by Romanian users of the
very latest version of Ubuntu, right? That's not a significant number
of users, is it?

[Bug 131252] [gutsy] gvim crashed in munmap_chunk

Public bug reported:

gvim suddenly crashed with a traceback. I can't remember precisely what
I was typing at the time. I think I had just given a :b command to leave
a buffer viewing a diff. I see some functions in the stack about
folding, but I'm pretty sure I did not have folds on in any active
buffer.

i haven't seen this before. vim in gutsy has been generally reliable
for me.
