Re: [Bug 51235] Re: Ubuntu odpojení napá jecího kabelu a pop-up v GNOME

2007-08-20 Thread Petr Tomeš
Gutsy won't be LTS, will it? The next LTS should be Ubuntu 8.04, which is
more than half year away, not couple weeks.

2007/8/19, trollord [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

It won't be out for dapper anymore (too low priority to warrant the
work) but is fixed in Feisty and such in couple weeks in the next LTS.
Closing, no need to track this.

[Bug 133581] Re: firefox-granparadiso crashes with segmentation fault

2007-08-20 Thread Shirish Agarwal
I disabled all plugins, it crashed saying segmented fault on that
hyperlink, I made a new profile, it crashed again saying segmented fault
on the hyperlink given above. I tried obtaining a traceback using
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingFirefoxDevels but then firefox-
granparadiso-bin wouldn't responding after attaching gdb to it. For the
whole exercise, the only exception I did from the wiki was :-

instead of firefox -g 21 | tee ~/Desktop/gdb-firefox.log it was

firefox-granparadiso -g 21 | tee ~/Desktop/gdb-firefox.log

Please lemme know if anything more has to be done.

[Bug 133552] Re: Config option to enable debug logging in unattended-upgrade

2007-08-20 Thread Gaute Lund
The line

+ unattended-upgrade --debug

could be

+ unattended-upgrade --debug /dev/null 21

because unattended-upgrade in debug mode gives extra output Done
downloading, generating cron mail.

Based on this it might be a better option if unattended-upgrade itself
honoured a new config option to produce debug logging, but not debug
output to console.

[Bug 131557] Report Needed

2007-08-20 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Thank you kakashi for submitting this report.

After looking to the retraces you have submitted we have noticed that
you didn't have the debug symbol packages installed. So could you please
try to obtain another backtrace by following the instructions on [1]
(installing the debug symbols for thunderbird), or upload the crash
report that probably was generated during the crash and that should be
located at /var/crash/ to [2] so we'll be able to retrace it.

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if
this crash is reproducible describe as in much detail as possible the
steps that lead to it (it is very important for us to have a test case
for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 89711] Re: amarok hangs on start

2007-08-20 Thread Duncan
Having now downgraded back to 1.4.5, the problem still exists. The downgrade
process was as follows:
Remove fiesty backports from sources.list
Remove amarok, amarok-xine
Update the apt database
Install amarok, amarok-xine
Nuke all amarok data in .kde/
Restart X

Amarok 1.4.5 now exhibits the same hanging behaviour. It's loaded the
blue panel to the left saying 'Hello' and offering to build a
collection, but I can't actually click in the interface. Minimizing and
re-opening results in a window with no widgets, just white.

[Bug 133601] forced fsck while running on battery when mount count is exceeded

2007-08-20 Thread ski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

Fsck will check an ext3 FS while on battery after x mounts (as specified in
tune2fs), even if running on battery. Fsck has support for skipping such forced
fsck runs, and indeed this was used properly under dapper with pure sysvinit.
To laptop users this is really a critical bug. This bug has been reported many
times, but unfortunately under the wrong package (sysvinit instead of upstart).
I'm duplicating it here to try to get the attention of the right people, but
ideally the old bug would be re-assigned to upstart. Losing 10 minutes of
battery life to a preventative fsck is a real drag! I've personally
encountered this on feisty/amd64 but there are reports of this being the case
on edgy (probably x86) as well. The (mis-filed) bug report is here:

[Bug 67810] Re: bad hard disk noise on shutdown

2007-08-20 Thread RL
(Inspiron 6000 Dell) I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.22+ last night and the
soft-shutdown (through menu) works with no spinning sound anymore (and
the button shutdown still does). However, the system make a loud
spinning sound right after I remove my Buffalo external USB drive (even
after I unmounted the drive before removal). It also make a smaller
spinning sound when I remove flash drive from USB (and the flash drive
light doesn't go off after remounting, either - although I don't
remember if the light go off or not before my kernel upgrade).

[Bug 121420] Re: Wishlist: New stable egroupware release available

2007-08-20 Thread Martin Pitt
As far as I can see, this package has never actually been maintained in
Ubuntu, just because nobody showed enough interest in it. If you use it,
you are most welcomed to care for it, of course!
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment has some initial reading about
how to get involved.

Thank you!

[Bug 133554] Re: Rebuilding collection eats up too much memory

2007-08-20 Thread Szabolcs Szakacsits
Please note that the original bug submission was about high memory, not
CPU usage. High CPU usage can happen with any file system in certain
cases during heavy file activity.

So, what is the process whihs uses 250MB during running Amarok?

The screen off effect is a known kernel problem, probably you have too
much swap and slow disk and CPU.

[Bug 133608] Memorex Traveldrive Doesn't Mount

2007-08-20 Thread Sb
Public bug reported:

It's best described here by another user
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2170936

Basically, I plug in the 1 GB USB Memorex Traveldrive, and it doesn't
automount. It doesn't even appear in /dev/sda1 like it should. It just spits
out a million USB related message in dmesg similar to:
[650.137000] usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 78

Once in a while, I leave it plugged in, and it just starts mounts after
a while. Most of the time it does nothing (little blue light on device
is off), even if I coldboot it with the device plugged in. It is
frustratingly sporadic and rarely works. I have had the same problem on
an older version of SUSE on a new laptop, and I now have this problem
with Xubuntu 7.04 on an old laptop.

[Bug 92370] Re: When desktop-effects fails it gives no explanation

2007-08-20 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Assuming this is not going to be fixed in Feisty, shall we just mark it
a duplicate of bug #89697 which is more relevant to Gutsy now that the
restricted driver installer system seems to be working well?

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: desktop-effects

- I couldn't find a list of supported graphic cards for compiz anywhere -
- but for the record it doesn't work with my GeForce Go 7400. It just
- thinks for a while and then says Desktop effects could not be be
- enabled
+ Description updated Aug 20th '07

- I understand (now) that it only works with the nvidia-glx driver.
- desktop-effects should check for the presence of supported drivers and
- if it's missing it should display some text, perhaps: Desktop effects
- does not support the graphics driver you have installed. To enable
- desktop effects you will need to install one of the drivers listed at
- http://blah.com;
+ = Running Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) =
+ If Desktop Effects fails it gives the message Desktop effects could not be
be enabled
+
+ For users of nVidia Graphics Cards this can be because the machine needs
+ the binary driver from nVidia which is not installed by default (nvidia-
+ glx). But the message doesn't mention any of this so the user doesn't
+ know what to do.
+
+ = Running Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) =
+ In 7.10 the system offers to install the nVidia binary driver and if this
works will enable Desktop Effects. But it doesn't let you know how well your
graphics card is supported. This problem is explained in bug #89697

[Bug 131873] Re: exe segfault in kernel log

2007-08-20 Thread Neil Wilson
There is no oops. Just a bunch of seg faults reported in the kernel log.
The dmesg log for that has already been attached.

The console merely shows three/four 'Segmentation Fault' messages, and I
only briefly see that when the system shuts down.

I can only help further if you are more specific about what you want me
to run, or obtain from the system.

[Bug 133609] 'Desktop Effects' fail with nVidia GeForce Go 7400

2007-08-20 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Is this the correct package? I have not installed any extra windows
management packages, just the default 'Desktop Effects'.

Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) with nVidia GeForce Go 7400

If I enable 'Normal Effects' everything seems to be fine with nvidia-glx
enabled. The desktop 'blinks' and everything works fine.
If I then enable 'Extra Effects it still looks fine and works great (no crashes
yet).

But when I reboot the machine while 'Normal Effects' is enabled, the desktop
comes up with no windows borders. To get the borders back I have to switch to '
No Effects'. From there I can go through the whole process again.

To me this looks like my card is supported but something is not being
loaded during boot-up?

[Bug 110636] Re: hdparm - cannot set dma on IDE hard drive that works via pata

2007-08-20 Thread comgen
Temp fix

* Use cation and research first, the following HAS worked for me
* under Feisty and Gusty SO FAR .
I will NOT BE held responsible for any damage, I'm passing this on as an
* option / quick fix. Later in the build the following might break your system.
* Keep a note handy with ALL changes you make for future reference.

* I am not associated with Ubuntu or the Ubuntu development team(s),
just a user. *

Edit /etc/fstab and /boot/grub/menu.lst ( back them up first )

1. sudo cp /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu-lst-bk-UUID
2. sudo cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab-bk-UUID

Notes: sda = hdasda1 = hda1 sdb = hdb and so on

Comment out or replace ALL UUID entries in /etc/fstab with your drive(s)

1. sudo nano /etc/fstab

Example:
# /dev/sda1
UUID=e0b77534-74ca-4e25-af29-773fc0d94fc7  /  ext3
defaults,noatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1
to:
/dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults,noatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1

# /dev/sda5
#UUID=daf35485-6c6e-491a-8287-73cd3f07f6fd
/dev/hda5 noneswapsw 0 0

=
Optional ( I think ) I did not alter my menu.lst and works just fine,
here's the quick and dirty, if you wish to alter this as well.

Comment out or replace ALL UUID entries in /boot/grub/menu.lst with
your drive

1. sudo nano /boot/grub/menu.lst( hda = the root boot drive, hda1 hda2
hdb1..)

example:
# kopt=root=UUID=e0b77534-74ca-4e25-af29-773fc0d94fc7 ro
to: kopt=root=/dev/hda ro

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-9-386
root=UUID=e0b77534-74ca-4e25-af29-773fc0d94fc7 ro
to:kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-9-386 root=/dev/hda ro

Reboot !

Good Luck !

[Bug 126374] Re: gnuplot doesn't have GNU readline support

2007-08-20 Thread manu
No, this not because gnuplot is not compiled with GNU readline. The
builtin readline can handle those keys (it cannot handle autocompletion
and perhaps history). However, it should handle HOME, END and DEL.

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1556607group_id=2055atid=102055

** Summary changed:

- gnuplot doesn't have GNU readline support
+ HOME END DEL keys not working

** Description changed:

The keys HOME, END and DEL do not work in gnuplot. They output H, F and
  3~ respectively.
-
- This is because gnuplot in Debian/Ubuntu is not compiled with GNU
- readline support due to incompatible licenses.

[Bug 127101] Re: laptop hangs when switching video mode

2007-08-20 Thread michelem
I have similar problem with driver i810 after upgraded from Feisty to Gutsy.
The laptop hangs very randomly with the error XAA: Evicting pixmaps in the
/var/log/Xorg.0.log log file

Another problem is: I cannot switch to console mode (ctrl+alt+F1) the
screen remains blank or with distort images.

The xserver-xorg-core version is 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-6ubuntu3
