[Bug 137676] Re: Openoffice (impress) crashes after changing slide design

2007-09-05 Thread Nicolas Deschildre
Hi,
Thanks you for the bug report!
Could you give us extra information to help us pinpoint the bug :
- What version of ubuntu are you using?
- What version of openoffice.org-impress are you using (as seen in the synaptic
package manager)?

I can reproduce and confirm the bug in ubuntu 7.04 on version
2.2.0-1ubuntu4 following the steps above (using a new presentation file)

[Bug 137683] [PATCH] xorgconfig.py crashes on disable in Modules section

2007-09-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-guidance

In xorg-server 1.3, X has the smarts to auto-load a number of common
modules. Unfortunately, on rare occasions one of these automatically
loaded modules causes problems, or the user wishes to run without it for
whatever reason. Xorg provides the disable module keyword for such
cases, which does the opposite of load module.

Currently guidance-backends crashes if the disable keyword is present
in the user's xorg.conf. For instance, when running displayconfig-gtk,
this error occurs:

[Bug 137683] Re: [PATCH] xorgconfig.py crashes on disable in Modules section

2007-09-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
The specific use case where this is needed is for Ubuntu's
Bulletproof-X, in which I need to forcibly disable DRI and other modules
that can cause trouble when running in failsafe mode.

Anyway, here is a patch to stop guidance from crashing if the disable
keyword is present. It would be nice if guidance did something more
clever with this keyword, but for the bulletproof-x case that's
unnecessary, for now we just need it to not crash when the keyword is
present.

[Bug 135228] Re: GNOME session freezes to black screen, Failsafe GNOME session works fine

2007-09-05 Thread Sander van Loon
Hmm, ok. I did not know how to provide debugging information for this
bug because the crash happens when I log in. I have used GDB in the past
to provide backtraces, but AFAIK there is no way to start GDB or
something like that to get a backtrace before I log in, or is there?
I've read the information on the wiki for debugging procedures -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures - the document which
describes my situation most closely there is probably -
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash - but that only
deals with reproducing crashes on a text console, which is probably not
what I need to do if my crash happens when I log in to GNOME.

To be honestly I don't know how to provide the correct debugging
information then, there is no info on the Ubuntu wiki either. The only
way I could think of was providing some log files, I thought the
.xsession-errors file was useful?

[Bug 137453] lack video size UI config option

2007-09-05 Thread Fabio Massimo Di Nitto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

Many webcams support different picture size. In ekiga there is already a
gconf entry to set this up, but it is lacking an easy way to set this
parameter in the preference-video UI.

For *example* the built-in Apple iSight camera needs:

$ gconf-editor

apps ekiga devices video

Change the value for size from 0 to 1.

[Bug 105670] Re: With gnome-color-chooser, color selected in the menu of “Shortcuts” and “System” different from the other ent ries

2007-09-05 Thread JackTheDipper
Hi!
That's a GNOME bug: the one-part GNOME menue uses the three-part menue (apps,
system, places) and its style options. It's unlikely to be fixed as a new GNOME
menue is in work and will probably be released with GNOME 2.22. But if someone
wants to hack in, a fix for 2.20.1 would be possible.

Best regards,
Jack ;-)

[Bug 50099] Re: network has to be started each time system is booted

I am also running into this problem in Gutsy Tribe 5. I have a laptop
which uses the ipw3945 wireless driver, and i use wpasupplicant through

My solution (reached independently) has been to disable the udev rule entirely:

/etc/udev/rules.d/85-ifupdown.rules.bak

This rule appears to invoke ifup on the wireless interface too soon, and
prevents wpasupplicant from loading properly as defined in /etc/network
/pre-up.d/wpasupplicant.

fooled around with the keyboard capplet.

trying to backport just the 64-bit fix.

[Bug 137458] Inconsistency with Nautilus dragdrop and ACL

2007-09-05 Thread Holger Berndt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am using Nautilus in connection with Eiciel for ACL support (what is
the status of Nautilus' native ACL support anyways? I heard it should be
there from GNOME 2.16 on...). When I copy a directory with files from a
partition that was not mounted with acl support, file permissions differ
depending on whether I do this copy operation from a shell (cp -r) or
via DragDrop in Nautilus. In my oppinion, the file permissions via the
shell command are more sensible.

Note how the permissions of other differ. I very much prefer them the
way the shell does it. Since Nautilus is granting unwanted read access
for world, I am marking this bug as a security vulnerability.

[Bug 136962] Re: Session file left after uninstall breaks X

2007-09-05 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Here's an updated debdiff:

Review points:
1) postinst now checks for the existence of $unud, and does nothing if it
doesn't exist. It didn't seem important enough to add a dependency on
update-notifier | adept-notifier
2) $unud is actually defined in postinst (stupid ctrl-k!)
3) It seems the consensus of #ubuntu-motu is that the notifications should be
for high-priority notifications only.
4) Although it's possible someone will want to call Xgl-session themselves,
it's unlikely. It's been moved to /usr/share/xserver-xgl, as suggested.

[Bug 136962] Re: Session file left after uninstall breaks X

2007-09-05 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Additionally, the debdiff adds -nolisten tcp and +xinerama to the xgl
options: The first because Xgl listens on TCP by default, and we don't
want that, the second because it should allow people to use the Xinerama
hints for multi-head, and it doesn't break anything on single-head
configurations.

[Bug 55739] Re: No more mouse events

2007-09-05 Thread lundse
I have this too. I am using kubuntu feisty with KDE.

But I am not using focus follows pointer, and there is another twist.
This has just happened, and keeps happening 3-5 secs after plugging in
my usb-wireless mouse. Disconnecting the mouse has my touchpad working
normally, after plugging in the mouse both mouse and touchpad start
exhibiting the behaviour described above. Restarting everything makes no
difference.

[Bug 3731] Re: Xorg resolution falling back to 640x480 and/or 800x600 when h/v freqs incorrect

2007-09-05 Thread maikelmeyers
I don't know if this information helps, but I have to tell ;)
When I connect my beamer to my laptop with a long (5m) vga-cable, the desktop
and beamer resolution is set to 800x600 and I don't get the resolution higher.
When I use a short cable (1.5m) everything works fine (1024x768).
So for now, I have to start with the short cable, and then after booting plug
the long cable :D

Quick addition - I just noticed that after plugging in the mouse, it
still works normally _but only within the original area_. For instance,

And another - this did not follow any update or other system change.
