[Bug 145005] Re: [gutsy] kernel 2.6.22-12 doesn't boot

And here's that busybox prompt it ends up with. After this it prints a
couple more SATA errors on top of the prompt. Sorry for the blurry
camera-phone photo, but I think it's enough to see what's going on.

[Bug 145004] Implement GtkExpander styling (Code, Screenshot)

2007-09-25 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

I've implemented some nice GtkExpander styling, based on the default
implementation in GTK, but looking much nicer.

I'm using 50% opaque foreground colour for normal colouring, and 100%
opaque foreground colour for prelight. This gives a really nice effect.

Can we get this into Gutsy please?

[Bug 136986] Re: autopkgtest gutsy libelf: erroneous package!

2007-09-25 Thread Steve Langasek
This package uses the following line in debian/rules:

./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-shared
--host=$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)

DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE is not set anywhere in the makefile, so this line
works only if DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE is already set in the build environment.
This will be true when invoked by dpkg-buildpackage, but not true when
./debian/rules build is invoked by hand as seems to be the case with
autopkgtest.

This bug is fixed in Debian, but is mixed in with a lot of unrelated
changes so a merge doesn't seem appropriate at this point of the release
cycle.

Sorry it's not technically a patch, I still can't figure out debdiff.
I've just enclosed the entire source file. All I have added is the
draw_expander function and then added it to style_init. The code is only
very slightly different to the default implementation in GTK.

[Bug 145010] Gnome Panel vanishes s when enabling Compiz plugins

2007-09-25 Thread elyk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

When enabling certain plugins in CompizConfigSettingsManager (also known
as advanced desktop effects settings), the panels at the top and bottom
of the screen vanish and I must rotate the desktop cube by at least one
face or run killall gnome-panel to bring them back. This does not seem
to be restricted to a specific plugin - I have observed it enabling many
plugins, including glib, and inotify. Other times the panel will vanish
for a second, then return on its own, so perhaps the above is caused by
something interrupting the normal reloading of the panel. This is
running compiz 0.5.3, fully updated as of 9/25/2007.

[Bug 145007] [needs-packaging] anki

2007-09-25 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

http://repose.cx/anki/

Anki is a program designed to help you remember facts (such as words and
phrases in a foreign language) as easily, quickly and efficiently as
possible. To do this, it tracks how well you remember each fact, and
uses that information to optimally schedule review times. With a minimal
amount of effort, you can greatly increase the amount of material you
remember, making study more productive, and more fun. Anki is based on
a theory called spaced repetition.

Developer-created debs available from
http://repose.cx/anki/download/index.html. They seem to run well on
gutsy (feisty does not fulfill the python-qt4 4.2 dependency, AFAIK).
No packages from debian.org yet.

Nice little program. Hope to see it soon in a ubuntu repo.

2007-09-25 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Accidentally booting Kubuntu gutsy beta in VMWare without networking
enabled, the installer fails to complete the install when choosing
French as the language, hanging at 87% while trying to download language
packs. This problem does not occur when choosing English as the
language or when the network is present.

I have a Dell XPS M1210.

My LCD brightness can go down, but the keys can't bring it back up. If I
start up the power management, I can use the slider to adjust the

[Bug 48128] Re: Evolution always shows 12-hour am/pm time in email summary screen

2007-09-25 Thread Dean Sas
It seems to me that there are two issues here:
1. There is no GNOME-wide way of changing the values of LC_TIME (the bug I
linked and referenced by Leo Howell)
2. The default LC_TIME settings for en_GB suck (contentious)

Lets continue to use this bug for 1., if you'd like the default settings
for 2. to change please open a bug and report it to the upstream
developers (glibc developers?)

As a work around you can add export LC_TIME=en_DK.UTF8 in your .bashrc
file, this will give you 24 hour clock time everywhere that respects the
LC_TIME locale.

[Bug 41407] Re: Kubuntu's Ksplash icons are too close to each other

2007-09-25 Thread David Solbach
Hi Robert,

your patch works and I modified it a bit further to take the actual
mIconSetSize and mImageSpacer given in the Theme.rc into account to be a
bit more flexible.

NOTE: I also changed the Theme.rc file of the default theme with resides
in package kubuntu-default-settings to contain a valid value for
ImageSpacer. So to test the new patch you also have to use the new
Theme.rc I add as a attachment.

To fix the bug the new Theme.rc has to replace the old one in kubuntu-
default-settings!

Could anyone try it out?

David

[Bug 145018] [regression] dell XPS M1210 no longer suspends in gusty

2007-09-25 Thread Ryan Bair
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-12-generic

Suspend was mostly working on a fresh install of tribe 5. The machine
would suspend, after waking up it would suspend a second time and then
report that suspend had failed when woke up again. All the hardware
seemed to work fine despite the minor strangeness.

I recently tried suspending, it drops in to suspend. Upon waking up I
can briefly see some text about the kernel resuming, but then the screen
goes blank, I get some hard drive activity. Usually after a minute or
so, the machine goes back to BIOS.

This happens with both the nvidia and nv video drivers.

[Bug 145023] Should be able to temporarily halt downloads with Distribution Upgrade

2007-09-25 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

With the current update-manager in Ubuntu Feisty, during a distribution
upgrade (to Gutsy), the user is told that he cannot pause the download.
This is a problem, because the download with a 56k modem takes over 2
days!

It is, actually, quite possible to pause the downloading by forcibly
killing the application. When the distribution upgrade is run again, the
downloads will pick up where they were left off. However, this is
certainly not a tidy way to break up downloading!

The program should offer an interface for pausing the download phase of
upgrading so that the computer can be turned off and the download
resumed at a later time.

[Bug 112518] Re: Switch User freezes at blank screen

2007-09-25 Thread Jean Levasseur
Hi Mke E. I noticed after trying Kubuntu that when one switches user,
it opens another VT with another X server to that other user. For
example, lets say user Joe is logged-in usuallyand has locked the
screen. Then user Sarah arrives and activates the Switch User
button, then KDM appears as expected. She loges-in to work, and now Joe
arrives to continue his work. She lockes the screen, and then Joe just
has to push control-alt-F7 to access his locked session, while leaving
Sarah's session intact and accessible via control-alt-F9.

In other words, is that possible that this situation is making a
confusion here? You do not have Compiz neither Metacity activated,
well, do you have Beryl?

I've extensively played with those Switch user options, and the only
time it really lock-up the computer, leaving it in an unusable state is
when desktop effects (either by Beryl or Compiz) are activated while
switching users.

[Bug 84541] Re: [feisty] bluetooth mouse doesn't connect automatically

2007-09-25 Thread aalcock
Hi Marcel

Running ps | grep hidd | grep -v grep I get:
root 5670 1 0 Sep25 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/hidd -i
00:07:61:84:B3:03 --server

(00:07:61:84:B3:03 is my mouse; running hidd --server without the -i
MAC address doesn't allow a reconnect under any circumstance)

And yet my bluetooth mouse does not reconnect either at startup, KDE
login or when the mouse times out its bluetooth connection after a
period of inactivity.

So far the ONLY way I have found to get the mouse working again is, like
Jim and rowanook, to use an hidd --connect. Believe me, I don't want to
do this.

I think that this thread is actually saying that the approach you fairly
bluntly proscribe doesn't work - and that's (we believe) a bug.

[Bug 19053] Re: Synaptic doesn't respect gnome preferences

2007-09-25 Thread Alex Jones
OK so the problem here is that Synaptic has a choice of either text-
only, icons-only, text-beside-icons, text-below-icons, or hide. The only
way to get the configured behaviour is to leave the setting alone. We
can either mess around adding a use default option, or we can just get
rid of the toolbar configuration code.

I vote for the latter, it's completely pointless in my book, but then
Synaptic isn't really a GNOME application.

Michael, what should I do?

[Bug 125739] Re: mpg123 and mpg321 won't play audio preview in Nautilus (Gutsy)

2007-09-25 Thread Stephen
same issue here, no audio preview and I think this is related to the
lack of login/logout sounds. All the system sounds seem to rely on
esound which is no longer installed by default. I think this is a
fairly important bug as it appears to be system wide. I understand that
esound is being phased out but if the replacement system is not ready by
release date then I think esound needs to remain in a default install so
that everything just works.

I can confirm this, but the solution with xhost + doesn't seem to work.

See also bug #140793 .

If I do e.g. kdesudo kedit, it starts kedit, but as myself, not as root

When I do a kdesudo -u testuser kedit, it gives a:
- No protocol specified
- Xlib: connection to :0.0 refused by server

It gives also sometimes these error messages:
- Error: /var/tmp/kdecache-jeroen is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.
- Error: /tmp/ksocket-jeroenzvlc9S is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.
