[Bug 141372] Re: [gutsy] failure detecting DVI in MacMini since xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.7.192

2007-10-03 Thread Luke Yelavich
Forgot to add that I am using the DVI - VGA adapter, connected to a KVM that
doesn't support
DDC probing. My monitor resolutions and sync ranges are correctly configured in
xorg.conf
however, yet with the connectortable option mentioned in my previous comment, I
only get 640x480
resolution. This is on a ChiMei CMV 22 widescreen LCD monitor, 1680x1050 max
resolution.

[Bug 148414] Thunderbird composition does not check configured LDAP directory for address

2007-10-03 Thread Kirk Bridger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

When composing an email, the address is not checked against configured
LDAP directories, even when that option is set up in the Preferences. I
have confirmed this by watching the slapd logs while composing versus
when searching the address book. Searching the address book provides
results. Typing the beginning of the name or email address does not
even produce a result in slapd's log. This worked in feisty.

[Bug 148413] gnome-panel is invisible after gnome starts

2007-10-03 Thread Evgeny Remizov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When gnome starts, the panel is invisible - i.e., only desktop wallpaper
with icons on it is shown. However, menu appears after any click on the
desktop. If you click on the place where the menu should be, it
correctly handles the click - appears with the menu item open.

This happens every time since one of the latest gutsy updates.
P.S. Might have something to do with the fact that I'm using compiz/emerald -
some redraw issue.

a couple days.

[Bug 10669] Re: Filters are not applied to new mail on Exchange

2007-10-03 Thread gsiwakumar
I did have the same problem. All filters where working when i apply it
manually and i did not work when a new mail comes in.

i was able to fix it when i enable Apply filters to new messagesin
inbox on this server available in the following path Edit-
Preferences- Edit(Account Editor)- Receiving options.

IMHO, this option needs to be enabled by default which is not the
current case.

Iam using
Evolution 2.10.1
Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn - released in April 2007)

I thought I'd do my share by reporting this bug. I can see I,'m not the
only experiencing this bug. With Compiz enabled clicking on the desktop
switcher makes the panels disappear and seems to crash Xserver at the
same time. Love you guys! Thanks for maintaining the best distro around
and quite possibly the best OS too!

[Bug 147257] Re: e100 module does not create /dev/ethx in gutsy beta1, kernel 2.6.22-12-generic

2007-10-03 Thread James R. Phillips
Maybe I need to clarify that I did a fresh install. Currently I have no
files named /etc/iftab or /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules.

The contents of /etc/network/interfaces:
==
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp
==

I just changed the primary network interface to refer to eth1 instead of
eth0. I think this should be classified as a workaround, since there
was a mismatch between the installer-generated interfaces file and the
actual ethn interface number, but it was fixable in this fashion.

[Bug 133786] Re: Bus error when running Firefox or Epiphany

2007-10-03 Thread kervel
i can confirm this. Running on a laptop R51, i suspend/resume frequently
(but i tried rebooting immediately after upgrading and still got
corruption), and i also see corruption after dist-upgrade, causing the
same bus errors. Also here, it happens frequently (almost always when
updating openoffice , firefox).

i also use the XFS filesystem (but i already use it for years without
problems).

i tought it was a broken apt (apt-get frequently just hangs also on my
machine, and control-Z on apt doesn't work anymore, neither does
control-C) but as everybody affected seems to use XFS ...

greetings,
Frank

[Bug 147369] Re: system-config-printer fails to automatically configure a printer

2007-10-03 Thread dodgy_pro
I uninstalled all printers and removed them from the computer (USB).
I rebooted.
I connected my HP Deskjet 5940 to the USB.
After a few seconds I was given the tip that the printer was found and
installed.
It had been recognised by both the System/Administration/Printing tool and the
HPLIP Toolbox, having the URI that was not working previously (i.e.
hp:/usb/Deskjet), BUT
It worked flaulessly!...

Job is done and it really should have been done. Bug seems to be fixed.
I will inform friends of mine who are also beta-testing Gutsy and had
the same problem.

My only thought now, is why jobs are compiled continuously to the
printer... I mean whatever I send for printing takes a job-number ever
increasing (for instance I send a test page and it is printed as job...
45), but I cannot find how I reset the counting. If it is something
worth considering, let us now please.

Thanks for the fix! It was important for the upcoming release of Ubuntu.

[Bug 95484] Re: PDF Export Dialog shows no labels next to options - rendering issue

2007-10-03 Thread Craig Adams
A positive update. I have possibly found the cause of this problem, for
me at least.

My default system locale is English, South Africa.

In OpenOffice.org, under Tools Options Language Settings
Languages:

If the setting for User Interface is set to Default or English (South
Africa) , I have problems with the dialogues not being complete.

If I change the User Interface setting to English (UK) the dialogues are
all correct.

This tends to indicate that the translations or language packs for the
OpenOffice.org interface/dialogues are missing or not complete (most
likely) for the South African and other locales.

Hopefully this will point us in the right direction.

Well done Kyle.

It is not just limited to ralink, rt73 belkin, but seems to be rt61,

The fact that it worked perfectly roughly 2 months ago indicates that
something went bad in a build somewhere.

Still patiently waiting on a fixed solution too.

2007-10-03 Thread Matthew East
That wasn't the reason this bug was closed - I don't have any objection
to fixing it, it's simply that no translator has sent me a translated
version of the file. It is probably inappropriate for us to have a bug

Anyway, to get rid of the bug I've done the translation myself and
uploaded it.

Should we set a collective bounty here? So many affected people,
everyone might give a few bucks to someone who finally improves the
upstream drivers to make them work out-of-box and easily includable in
modern Linux distributions like Ubuntu. Once it's done, the developer
gets paid. Saw it at https://www.bountysource.com/ recently.

[Bug 148423] [Gutsy] rendering problem with totem with compiz enabled

2007-10-03 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

In Gutsy using totem-gstreamer 2.20.0-0ubuntu2 and compiz
1:0.6.0+git20071002-0ubuntu1 (and an ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 M10 video
card), there are two compiz rendering problems with totem:

1. When the totem window gains focus, its contents are displayed in a
kind of 'photo-negative' initially as the fade-in effect starts up. Then
it reverts to normal.

2. Shadows cast by other windows over totem draw in black instead of a
semi-transparent grey.

These rendering problems aren't present if I use vlc.

I'm pretty sure this did not used to occur before the latest compiz
update.

Public bug reported:

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 139070 ***

Trying to access my wireless lan (with WPA-personal security settings) from
fresh installation of Gutsy Beta (after full upgrading from ethernet), pc
freezes and hangs and I need to rebot with hard reset. My wifi interface is a
USB Linksys WUSB54GR, that worked fine with enhanced legacy driver from
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com on Ubuntu Festy. I tried to disable WPA, but the
problem remained.
I noticed that lsmod output contains both rt73usb and rt2x00usb/rt2x00lib
modules: maybe blacklisting one of them can solve the problem.

I guess that this is another issue than the artefacts I see in celestia,

[Bug 145112] Re: Random NVidia Proprietary Driver Lynches / Lock-Ups

2007-10-03 Thread rick_in_kingston
Also having the same problem here. Nvidia 7300, on an ASUS M2NVP-VM, have a
6150 onboard but disabled. AMD X2 4200+ with 2G DDR2 800 ram (4 X 512). I am
running Gutsy beta, video driver is 100.14.19 with Compiz-Fusion enable,
experiencing about 1 or more an hour. None with affects disabled. I did not
want to install 100.14, but wanted to install 9636, but system would not let
me. I also tried turning off cpu scaling in bios. (Cool and Quiet)
Tried everything I could think of to remove 100.14 but again was thwarted by
system. This is on a generic (i386) kernel.
I have another Gutsy install on the same machine but with the 64 kernel. I was
able to install 963X, it is having no lockup problems at all with Compiz
running and I can run with cpu scaling.
I had the same problems on Friesty with the 9755 and the 100.11 drivers. And
again with the 96XX drivers, no problems
I think it is a nvidia driver problem with the 6 and 7 series video GPUs and
any of the 97XX and higher drivers.

The dpkg-reconfigure writes a new xorg.conf. The displayconfig-gtk
(Screens and Graphics) writes a new xorg.conf. They're both two ways of
accomplishing the same thing. Dpkg-reconfigure has worked for ages.
However, since Ubuntu is focusing on usability and it has introduced the
shining new 'screens and graphics', that's the one this bug report is
about and that's the thing that should be fixed. Not merely the 'I can
only get 640x480' problem, which is easily fixed, but the 'I can only
get 640x480 from Screens and Graphics' problem.

[Bug 137598] Re: Screen brightness resets to default (maximum) on idle with AC plugged in

2007-10-03 Thread Tim Hull
Here is the patch I came up with. Basically, when the idle callback
is called, this will stop it from changing the brightness if idle
dimming is disabled. Hope this is suitable - I know one could suppress
the idle callback from being called, but it seems that it is used for
other things (gscreensaver, etc). If not, then that would be the
preferred solution.

[Bug 135809] Re: [Gutsy] User switching not working with nvidia driver

2007-10-03 Thread Mephisto
The system doesn't really lock up, only X does. You can login with ssh
and killall -9 compiz, and you'll get metacity back (or no WM at all
:P), but the desktop will work again. I haven't gotten around to testing
this yet. Last time i could switch to a VT and back with the new driver,
something that didnt work with the old one, so i assumed it was fixed.
But maybe it's not an nvidia bug but a compiz bug, cause i can't
remember getting this with beryl...

[Bug 148432] gnome-panel freezes randomly if restarted

2007-10-03 Thread Juho Vuori
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

If you run 'killall gnome-panel' the panel normally gets restartsed.
Sometimes, though the restart happens as should, and a new gnome-panel
process gets created, no new panel gets drawn on screen. The process
just seems to get stuck on something. After entering this state, not
much is doable. Running 'killall gnome-panel' starts a new process, but
from this point on no new processes will ever draw the panel. This makes
me guess, it could be a metacity bug or something alike, but I'm
submitting this as gnome-panel bug as I don't know better.

Although this is quite random, it happens to me say once every ten
restarts, so it should be reproduceable.

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 148231] Re: [gutsy] bad modes in xorg.conf

2007-10-03 Thread Tormod Volden
I guess xresprobe is using xprobe.sh instead of ddcprobe. There is an
option to xresprobe that makes it leave the Xorg log from running
xprobe.sh back in /tmp so you can look at it. Can you find it and attach
the log here?

Is this really an ALSA issue or (as described by Ebbex) lack of
CONFIG_SND_HDA_INTEL in the kernel conf? Why is the hda-intel driver
present in -386/-rt but not in -generic?
