Happens to me too on 7.10 final, with or without desktop effects. It
takes about 30-40 seconds to login. This was not the case in Feisty.
Starting the very first application is also significantly slower than
used to be. Everything after that is fast, as usual.

I'm sorry! The problem I reported above was my fault.
I didn't re-run NVidia's binary driver installer after the upgrade.
Apparently, the "still-installed-from-Feisty" third-party-driver-installation

I don't know whether this helps, but it seems to be a problem with the 7.10
remote login.
I set up 2 machines, 1 Feisty, and one Gutsy. The fiesty machine can login to
Gutsy and Feisty systems, but the Gutsy machine cannot connect to any remote
systems with XDMCP.

Hi, I am also having problems with an 8600GT and Gutsy. I'm not quite
sure where to start so I'll give you the whole run down.
Upgrade from 7.04 --> 7.10 ( which had broken Nvidia binary driver
installed ) could not get GDM or X to load unless i used the "nv" or
"vesa" drivers.
Downloaded Ubuntu
I can confirm this in the 1420 without the webcam. The microphones are
present, do not work in either the Gutsy i386 or amd64 install. They
worked in that "other" operating system before I imaged and removed it.

Clicking on "split view" blows up the right panel to a huge width.

I can confirm this bug affects both of my Toshiba Satellite comptuers on
Gutsy 7.10 Stable. (As an aside, it also affects Kubutnu 7.10 stable as
well)
The first of the Laptops has an ATi X1600 Mobile graphics chip, and the
other has an Intel i915.
I first noticed the glitch when I ran the install

I'm having the same problem. I've purged wine, renamed .wine, and
reinstalled several times, and still, anything I do related to Wine
freezes my computer and I have to re-boot. I'm on an Acer 1522. My
Gutsy upgrade went smoothly otherwise. Here's my lspci output, if that
helps:
