[Bug 159920] Re: Microsoft Laser Desktop 5000 USB keyboard not usable during grub boot selection

2007-11-26 Thread Da-brickbat
ok, I tried another USB port, its the same thing. What kind of problem
with the BIOS? If you give me an idea about what to look for in the
bios setup, i can check it. It works pretty good in Gutsy after boot,
just not in GRUB. If it was a BIOS problem wouldn't it not work at all?

[Bug 84603] Re: Hard disk I/O randomly freezes when hald is running and optical drive is empty

2007-11-26 Thread Igor Lautar
I confirm this bug on HP nc8430 with upgraded drive.

Summary:
I just upgraded existing drive (Fujitsu MHV2100BH) to Seagate 7200.2
(ST9200420ASG). Previous drive worked fine with edgy and feisty (did not tried
it with gutsy).
After upgrade, I went and installed feisty. The same lockups (as described
here) apear on random.

[Bug 165124] Network Manager does not allow a wireless network to change kind of encryption

2007-11-26 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Public bug reported:

If a wireless network used to use a certain encryption protocol (e.g.
WPA2) and then change its encryption protocol (e.g. to WEP), then
NetworkManager will not allow the user to connect to the network. It
will insist on connecting using the old encryption algorithm and,
obviously, it will always fail.

To reproduce:

1) Connect to a network (essid FooBar) with WPA encryption
2) Use the network
3) Change the FooBar network to use the WEP encryption
4) Select the FooBar network using NetworkManager
5) The passoword dialog is shown
5.1) NetworkManager should ask for the WEP password
5.2) BUT it insist on asking for the WPA password

1. 'utf8' instead of 'iocharset=utf8' works too.

2. The solution above doesn't work for CDs, when inserting one in
client's drive a line appears in /var/run/ltspfs_fstab with 'defaults'
instead of 'utf8'.

[Bug 163928] Re: mplayer rc2 (gutsy-backposrts) does not go down -vo list properly

2007-11-26 Thread Nico
Ah, I'm being ignored now ?

I'm sorry, I'm not a developer or anything close to that.

I'm just trying to do my part, opening bugs when I see them, trying to
go further when it is in my power/ability.

I'm sorry I cannot help more right now, and it is not laziness, but
please do not ignore the bug, it is there, on at least 2 of my systems,
32 and 64-bit.

Hi,
while waiting for this bug to be fixed, I've found this workaround, that needs
openssh server and xnest to be installed on the remote machine:

Not that user friendly, for sure, but it works, even from gutsy to gutsy...

I hope it helps.

Re: [Bug 160885] Re: The following web page crashes firefox:

Hi:

Since the first attempt at a bug report things have been deteriorating.
Now I cannot type any information into a bug report past the title. So
the description crashes ff. Also clicking on a friend in facebook.
This morning it only crashed when I tried to enlarge a facebook picture
(just click the thumbnail). Now I can't select a 'friend any way at
all.

I thought that would be an easy issue to report, but then... I can't use
the report description page.

[Bug 160636] Re: xubuntu Gutsy: Screensaver shows user's screen at password prompt

2007-11-26 Thread Miguel Martinez
I was refering to the last tab, the one with the compositing manager
options, so that Previous Tab meant The tab described in the point
above. Actually, Display full screen blablabla was the option I
wanted to name, but I just didn't remember. Please keep in mind I've
only seen that option twice... and in spanish.

PS: Do you think we should change the status of the bug? At least put it
as confirmed, as you have seen it in two machines and I have seen it in
another one. Maybe even fixed does it.

[Bug 158745] Re: after upgrade to gutsy most entries in kmenu begin entries in kmenu

2007-11-26 Thread Robert Persson
The solution is:
Go to K System Settings Regional Language
Under the Locale tab, select your location in the top right drop down list

I found this fix on at
http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3087586.msg94260#msg94260.

Please fix this properly! Not only is the problem very ugly, but it also
makes reading the menus next to impossible once you have quite a few
applications installed.

[Bug 165134] tmispell-voikko depends on ispell but no dependency is set

2007-11-26 Thread Tero Tilus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tmispell-voikko

Invoking ispell without any parameters does nothing (no error messages,
nothing) if you have only tmispell-voikko installed (and no ispell).
Invoking tmispell works as expected. /usr/bin/ispell exists and is a
symlink to tmispell, just as I assume it should be. If I install ispell
/usr/bin/ispell is still a symlink to tmispell and ispell now works
correctly. I think tmispell-voikko should depend on ispell (maybe not
good idea) or die with a descriptive error message if it does not find
the real ispell.

Running feisty, tmispell-voikko 0.6.1-1

[Bug 153132] Re: Openoffice splash screen includes Ubuntu logo

2007-11-26 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks, Chris. The debdiff looks good mostly, except that due to the
moving of libdba680lx.so you need to add a Conflicts:/Replaces:
openoffice.org-base ( 1:2.3.0-1ubuntu5.2) to -core.

Please also create gutsy tasks for all bugs that are fixed by this
update, and add TEST CASE:s to their description, according to the
current SRU policy (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates).
Thanks a lot!

2007-11-26 Thread Jelmer Vernooij

This is an upgrade issue - older versions create a unique version of the
following index:

create index if not exists lookup_branch_revnum on revmap
(max_revnum, min_revnum, path, scheme);

bzr-svn should fix this or simply remove the old cache file when it
finds a unique lookup_branch_revnum index.

Unfortunately, launchpad won't let me change the status of the Ubuntu
bit of this bug because I'm not a Ubuntu bug contact.

However, I do agree with the bug creator and the appearance control

[Bug 165140] [ruby] multiple vulnerabilities

2007-11-26 Thread hk47
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ruby1.8

References:
http://www.debian.org/security/2007/dsa-1410
http://www.debian.org/security/2007/dsa-1411
http://www.debian.org/security/2007/dsa-1412

Quoting CVE-2007-5162:
The connect method in lib/net/http.rb in the (1) Net::HTTP and (2) Net::HTTPS
libraries in Ruby 1.8.5 and 1.8.6 does not verify that the commonName (CN)
field in a server certificate matches the domain name in an HTTPS request,
which makes it easier for remote attackers to intercept SSL transmissions via a
man-in-the-middle attack or spoofed web site.

Quoting CVE-2007-5770:
The (1) Net::ftptls, (2) Net::telnets, (3) Net::imap, (4) Net::pop, and (5)
Net::smtp libraries in Ruby 1.8.5 and 1.8.6 do not verify that the commonName
(CN) field in a server certificate matches the domain name in a request sent
over SSL, which makes it easier for remote attackers to intercept SSL
transmissions via a man-in-the-middle attack or spoofed web site, different
components than CVE-2007-5162.

[Bug 164815] Re: Please sync qdvdauthor 1.0.0~rc3 from debian-multimedia.org unstable

2007-11-26 Thread Daniel Holbach
-Maintainer: Christian Marillat [EMAIL PROTECTED]
+Maintainer: Ubuntu MOTU Developers [EMAIL PROTECTED]
+XSBC-Original-Maintainer: Matvey Kozhev [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Why do you change the maintainer field? The
http:///wiki.ubuntu.com/DebianMaintainerField change is OK, but why do
you set yourself as maintainer?

Also I don't understand the need for a -dbg package. We should drop it
since we have https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash (
http://people.ubuntu.com/~ubuntu-archive/ddebs ).

[Bug 161792] Re: WindowMaker alt-tab not working

A quick workaround / fix for this:
- Install wmakerconf
- start wmakerconf
- go to 'shortcuts'
- look for 'switch input focus to the next window'
- set mod1-tab as shortcut

[Bug 151405] Re: NetworkManager breaks suspend, stops working

2007-11-26 Thread Romano Giannetti
Alexander,

I tried the gutsy-proposed pacage. It seems to me that the bugs happens
less frequently, but still happens. The only nice things is that it
seems that now, if you kill the rogue NetworkManager, then the system
did suspend and resume ok.

I've seen a lot of related bugs (at least #85113, #145683, #139387). I
do not know exactly where to report this...

[Bug 164648] Re: Allow user to select preferred locale

2007-11-26 Thread Colin Watson
Isn't the real bug that the automatically selected locale doesn't work
properly?

What do you mean by properly rendered? Note that ' and ` are *not*
literal characters in manual pages, as commonly misunderstood; they are
rendered as left and right single quotation marks. See groff_char(7) in
the groff package.

[Bug 145683] Re: Network manager crash with WPA

2007-11-26 Thread Romano Giannetti
I tried the package from gutsy-proposed, I have had the crash again...
here it is:

Nov 26 09:50:41 rukbat NetworkManager: [Thread debugging using libthread_db
enabled]
Nov 26 09:50:41 rukbat NetworkManager: [New Thread -1212455248 (LWP 11942)]
Nov 26 09:50:41 rukbat NetworkManager: [New Thread -1229243504 (LWP 11992)]

Nov 26 09:50:41 rukbat last message repeated 4 times
Nov 26 09:50:41 rukbat NetworkManager: 0xe410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
Nov 26 09:50:41 rukbat NetworkManager: *** END
**

kill -9 and restart makes it work again. This happened after a resume,
switching from wireless without connection to a wired connection. No WPA
involved.

Running a 2.6.24-rc3 kernel here, with ndiswrapper (the standard kernel
did not resume properly, so I can't test it).

[Bug 109130] Re: ATA errors cause LONG boot time in Feisty

2007-11-26 Thread fishor
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW]
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in linux-source-2.6.20.

[Bug 109130] Re: ATA errors cause LONG boot time in Feisty

2007-11-26 Thread fishor
Please include the following additional information, if you have not
already done.

1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report.
3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.
4. Please run the command hdparm -i /dev/cdrom ( or your broken mas storage
device ) and post result here.

Regards,
Alex

I get this problem but not when I do `apt-get update` but trying to
install specific packages, (eg. dialog package, result below). First I
was using my local (Polish) ubuntu mirrors and all the packages had
corrupted hashes. When I switched to main repository, only some of the
packages get this error.

$ sudo apt-get install dialog

[Bug 165145] No hardware compatibility list included in manual. (Gutsy)

2007-11-26 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Public bug reported:

It would be useful if you could just look into Ubuntu's built-in manual
before you buy new hardware. Unfortunately you cannot find any
information on that question in the manual.
