[Bug 172518] [firefox] regression in recent update to 2.0.0.10

2007-11-28 Thread hk47
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

The recently (upstream) published Firefox 2.0.0.10 contains the
following regression:

References:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=405584

Quoting:
canvas.drawImage is not working in version 2.0.0.10

Please, test following URL. (It is a MDC sample page.)

Test URL :
http://developer.mozilla.org/samples/canvas-tutorial/3_1_canvas_drawimage.html;

As far as I can tell, Dapper's Firefox 1.5.x with it's backported
security patches is *not* affected by this regression (I've tested the
amd64 build).

[Bug 148247] Re: Compiz not supported for G965

2007-11-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
Another thought - on Gutsy we're limited to XAA rather than EXA, which
may be the source of this issue. In which case, backporting the driver
probably won't make a difference since we'd need the newer xserver.
Still, it would be worthwhile to test this on Hardy. Alpha 1 comes out
later this week.

Hi,

Stefan's solution worked for me on Gutsy

Thanks.

This is the first ubuntu installation I've done and this bug has taken me by
suprise.
you know, mounting nfs from fstab is an old classic in the linux world.
Then again, I am doing this with the desktop edition. Perhaps I should be using
the server edition?
By the way, what's the difference between the two?

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-11-28 Thread Peter Würtz
Guys, please actually read the stuff others wrote before...

As I said, the problem with gedit is the save routine. It relies on moving
the file that is being edited while the filehandle is kept open. This works for
most filesystems, but it fails on cifs and sshfs (by the way, it works with
smbfs). There are 2 ways to fix this:
1. do not move open files
2. fix support for moving open files in cifs and sshfs

I would just change the save procedure and go with the first solution,
but the gedit devs don't like the idea of changing their way of saving
files because any other solution would require a full copy of the text
file (for backup) or open up racing conditions if someone else tries to
edit the same file.

2007-11-28 Thread Paul Dufresne
You may want to try to activate the -proposed repository.
It may help at least to avoid the crash, even if I doubt it will help for more.
To activate it, open Synaptic, open Menu Settings/Repositories, select Update
tab, there I hope you will find the pre-released updates (gutsy-proposed). And
then click Reload, and see if you get new version for update-manager package.
This is associated with bug #145683.

monitor at the same time. The Screens and Graphics window greys out the
option for Secondary screen in both Screen 1 and Screen 2, allowing only
for Default Screen or Disabled. The proprietary driver does not have
this problem.

[Bug 172419] Re: firefox freezes and turns gray

2007-11-28 Thread Martijn Brinkers
I have been plagued with this bug as well. Firefox grayed out almost constantly
when I opened new windows. At first I thought is was caused by Flash but
disabling flash didn't solve it. After disabling all Firefox add-ons I noticed
that Firefox worked without any flaws. I discovered that as long as I do NOT
enable the Google bar add-on Firefox is stable again. The add-ons I have
enabled are Flash, Webdeveloper, Addblock and Ubufox.
I am not sure if this is actually a bug in the Google add-on or that there is
some other bug floating around that just happens to be 'activated' on my system
when I have enabled the Google bar add-on but I can reproduce the problem any
time I enable the Google bar add-on.

[Bug 75295] Re: Feisty freeze, kernel (?) tries to access DVD drive

2007-11-28 Thread gmayer
I just wanted to say that I managed to get rid of lots of weird ata soft
resets and other related problems (see bug 104581) thanks to Tom's
instructions using two flash drives. I'm on a Samsung Q35 laptop with
the notorious TSSTcorp TS-L632D DVD writer (used to be firmware_version
SC02, now SC04, downloaded). I have no Windows partition as I completely
nuked it a while back, I'm an Ubuntu purist ;-). The FreeDOS's USB
drivers work perfectly on my laptop too so that I had no problem
accessing once I had booted from the first flash drive.

So I can vouch for Tom's instructions and would consider them as generic
as long the reader has the same drive as above and no access to a
Windows partition. For those folks still dependent on Windows the above
instructions are probably easier.

[Bug 172528] Evince stops rendering PDF page at euro sign

2007-11-28 Thread Mathijs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Evince stops rendering a PDF page when it encounters a euro sign. This
happened on Ubuntu Gutsy in Evince 2.20.1 using poppler 0.6 (cairo).

Steps to reproduce:

1) download this PDF about the Dutch public transport chip card:
http://www.ns.nl/cgi-bin/get.pdf?Satellite_blobcol=url_downloadblobheader=application%2Fpdfblobkey=idblobtable=Downloadblobwhere=1150968808402
(or see the attached file below)

2) open it in evince and xpdf

2) compare pages 10, 12, 14 and 15 in both viewers

As you can see, evince consistently stops rendering a page when it
reaches a 'euro' sign, where xpdf shows the whole page.

[Bug 147800] Re: [Gutsy] : bluetooth printing was working but is not (at the beginning of september).

2007-11-28 Thread Martin Pitt
** Description changed:

  I'm using Gutsy, and it's up-to-date.

Once month ago, I was able to print to my bluetooth HP printer, after added
very easily this with new system-config-printer.
However, if the printer is OK, and the setup of system-config-printer too,
it's not working anymore.

  Logs from /var/log/cups/error_log :
  E [01/Oct/2007:21:22:26 +0200] [Job 27] Can't open Bluetooth connection

I can see that my bluetooth stick *doesn't blink* asit usually did while
sending a printing request.
But I can use the backend directly and see it blinking :

  network bluetooth://0005164004A2 Unknown deskjet 995c S/N MY1581C042AP
(Bluetooth)

I don't know how to print the job directly, using the backend. So I can't
tell you more.
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ - Make sure bluez-cups is installed and enable a Bluetooth adapter.
+ - Create a bogus bluetooth printer:
+lpadmin -p test -E -v bluetooth://00408C5E5DA4/spp -m
lsb/usr/cups-pdf/PostscriptColor.ppd
+ - try to print something:

[Bug 91918] Re: network-manager conflicts with resolvconf

2007-11-28 Thread Paul Dufresne
At least I can confirm that IT SHOULD WORK, since Dapper:
network-manager (0.6.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (Closes: #355246)
- most of the work is taken from the experimental branch of NM.
  Thanks goes to Michael Biebl.
- Added NetworkManagerDebian.patch which introduce supports for resolvconf
  * switched to debhelper5.
  * added libnl-util0, libnl-util-dev packages.
- added debian/libnl-util0.install , debian/libnl-util-dev.install
  * removed debian/dirs as it was useless.
  * added a dependency on wpasupplicant as it's necessary for all encrypted
connections.

[Bug 172529] Network applet dosen't activate ethernet connection

2007-11-28 Thread tuharsky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-network

I start up the Gutsy from CD with NO ethernet cable connected. Then I
use the Network applet to set the Wired connection using static IP
address. I click to apply changes and I plug in the ethernet cable.

The icon is signalising that I'm connetced to network, however not
really. ifconfig shows I have no IP address. I must do
/etc/init.d/networking restart and only then the network starts working.

I also notice that Gnome Font Viewer gets it wrong.

HLB__*.PFB is called Helvetica Neue, Regular by Gnome Font Viewer which is
wrong, the B after HL in HLB means BOLD.
Kfontview correctly calls it Helvetica Neue, Bold
fontforge also knows that the font is bold.
firefox chooses the wrong Helvetica
openoffice can't find any Helvetica at all

Note that fc-list did not show any bold versions of Helvetica Neue

[Bug 172526] Re: Two-sided printing problem in libgnomeprint

2007-11-28 Thread Till Kamppeter
Can you open the printer setup tool (system-config-printer, gnome-cups-
manager, CUPS web interface http://localhost:631/) and check the option
settings? In a group Installable options there should be an option to
tell whether you have a duplex unit installed. Set this to Yes or
Installed and then all printing dialogs should allow you to print
duplex.

Please tell here whether this solves your problem.

[Bug 172534] no way to allow bluetooth socket creation

2007-11-28 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apparmor

See bug 147800 for details, cupsys' apparmor profile causes bluez-cups
to break because AppArmor does not allow the creation of a bluetooth
socket:

  Nov 28 11:19:18 donald kernel: [ 9030.516116]
audit(1196245158.605:22): type=1503 operation=socket_create
family=bluetooth sock_type=seqpacket protocol=0 pid=16752
profile=/usr/sbin/cupsd

However, there is no way to configure a profile to create it. There are
no particular socket ACLs (at least not documented ones), and it still
happens if I allow access to all files and all capabilities. Thus the
only working fallback is to allow unconfined execution.
