[Bug 157650] Re: ATA port freezes randomly

2007-12-10 Thread ziphyre
I'm downloading right now Fedora 8, and will try with it. I know it's a
hopeless shot, but I have no other idea. But on the other side, I don't
know how to troubleshoot and log these errors. Like you said, it's
possible to go hours without a problem. The ata1.00: exception Emask
0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x1c0 action 0x2 frozen error is evident, since
you can't continue after. But other errors are more tricky. So if you
can describe me how I can see if there are ATA errors in background,
which log files should I look etc.. Then, I think I can comment more
accurately on Fedora 8 behavior.

PS: By the way, my error line begins with ata3.00: exception... but I
don't think this makes a difference?

[Bug 175254] snd-hda-intel ICH8 (rev03) - HD Audio stops working after booting win xp

2007-12-10 Thread Kinski
Public bug reported:

this happens on a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo V5545 laptop.

I think this bug is hardware related, but i am reporting it because i
know a workaround for it. Perhaps this helps some guys that have the
same problem.

How to reproduce this annoying bug:

After installing first windows and the Gutsy, I had no sound using
Gutsy. The next day I started gutsy, surprisingly there was sound. All
was okay ... BUT, after booting into XP and then switching back to
Gutsy, there was no sound again.

workaround:
After booting XP, turn of the laptop. After that pull out the mains cable and
wait a minute.

This worked for me. I think this bug could be Hardware related and by
pulling out the mains cable, some capacitors are discharged.

[Bug 175255] False success installing a packet when MD5sum mismatched

2007-12-10 Thread Ashrentum
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt

Machine: Xubuntu 7.10 (original kernel 2.6.22), AMD Turion64 x2

Particular problem:
Installing the flashplugin-nonfree packet. I get success doing it, but later
flash doesn't work. After reinstalling again I check that the MD5sum mismatched
but still the packet is marked as installed and successfully.

General problem:
I have seen the same problem for other packets.

Real problem:
Having apparently success when is not true. Bug in packet manager (synaptic,
apt, whatever). When you couldn't install the packet due a MD5sum mismatch or
another reason, you should see perfectly that there were a problem and you
couldn't install the packet. This can get crazy a person because you see the
program like installed when is not. Then maybe you try to install it again but
the response is that you have it already installed when is not true.

This was terrible when I tried to get working flash in Firefox.
-Install missing plugins - Install Flash Player - Error you have it
already installed!! ???

More problematic with Synaptic because maybe you never see the MD5sum
mismatch.

[Bug 174296] Re: please merge samba 3.0.27a-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2007-12-10 Thread Steve Langasek
samba (3.0.27a-2ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable (LP: #174296), remaining changes:
* debian/patches/VERSION.patch:
  - set SAMBA_VERSION_VENDOR_SUFFIX to Ubuntu
* debian/smb.conf:
  - Add (Samba, Ubuntu) to server string.
  - Comment out the default [homes] shares and add more verbose comments to
explain what they do and how they work (LP #27608). Also, add a
comment about valid users = %S to show users how to restrict access
to \\server\username to only username.
  - default passwd chat value is modified
* debian/samba-common.config:
  - do not change priority to HIGH if dhclient3 is installed
  - use priority medium instead of high for the workgroup question
* Set Ubuntu maintainer address.

samba (3.0.27a-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/disable-weak-auth.patch: disable plaintext authentication
on the client, and lanman authentication on both client and server, by
default since these are only needed for Win9x or Samba with encrypted
passwords disabled and are potential password attack vectors. This
change is backported from Samba 3.2. LP: #163194.
  * Don't build the userspace tools for the deprecated smbfs kernel driver
anymore; instead, use a shell wrapper around mount.cifs that translates
option names between the smbfs and cifs drivers.
Closes: #169624, #256637, #265468, #289179, #305210, #410075;
LP: #29413
  * debian/panic-action: detect when we're on an Ubuntu system and direct bug
reporters to Launchpad instead of to the Debian BTS. Closes: #452940.
  * debian/samba.init: call log_progress_msg separately for each daemon on
stop rather than passing a second arg to log_daemon_msg, for greater
compatibility with both Debian and Ubuntu LSB initscript implementations.
Closes: #453350.
  * Drop smbldap-tools to Suggests:, consistent with the textbook meaning of
recommends/suggests which is now implemented correctly in apt.
Closes: #453144.
  * Get rid of the build-dependency on type-handling:
- add a new target, update-archs, to be invoked by hand to refresh
the list of known Linux architectures for the libacl1-dev
build-dep; this avoids the clean target making changes to
  debian/control
- rework the sed line so that it works in-place on debian/control,
so we can get rid of debian/control.in as well and just update
  debian/control directly
Closes: #340570.

samba (3.0.27a-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/disable-weak-auth.patch: disable plaintext authentication

default since these are only needed for Win9x or Samba with encrypted
passwords disabled and are potential password attack vectors. This
change is backported from Samba 3.2. LP: #163194.

build-dep; this avoids the clean target making changes to
  debian/control
- rework the sed line so that it works in-place on debian/control,
so we can get rid of debian/control.in as well and just update
  debian/control directly
Closes: #340570.

Re: [Bug 157466] Re: kernel 2.6.22-14 not recognising 2nd hard drive

2007-12-10 Thread Kaptain Chaos
Hello Leann,
Thank you for the helpful update, sorry it has taken so long to reply.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to help make Ubuntu better and test the
new kernel however, due to time constraints and after developing a
different fault, our second PC (that had the kernel problems) is
permanently switched off and waiting for my attention. I hope to get it
up and running again in the new year and will gladly test the new kernel
(sooner if time allows).

Once again, sorry for the delay in replying.

Kind regards,

Ken (aka Kaptain Chaos)

Leann Ogasawara wrote:
The Hardy Heron kernel was recently uploaded for testing. We'd really
appreciate it if you could try testing with this newer kernel and verify
if this issue still exists. Unfortunately, the Hardy Heron Alpha1
LiveCD was released with the older 2.6.22 kernel. You'll have to
manually install the newer Hardy Heron kernel in order to test. This
should not be the case for Alpha2. However, here are the instructions
to install (if you choose to do so):

 1) edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list and add the following line:

 deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main restricted

 2) sudo apt-get update
 3) sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic
 4) reboot and select the new kernel from the grub menu

After you've tested, please feel free to revert back - ie boot into the
old kernel, sudo apt-get remove linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic, and remove
the line from /etc/apt/sources.list . Please update this report with
 your results. Thanks in advance!

kdebluetooth from hardy to gutsy? It's over two months from this bug
report. If you don't want to backport the hardy version you can just
apply a fix from hardy to gutsy version and release it as update/fix.
For me one one of the main reasons for migration to gutsy from dapper
was better bluetooth services handling and I'm disappointed with that. I
know that there may appear some bugs in the stable release as some of
them can't be catched before release but they should be fixed as soon as
it's possible. Too bad my network connection is so slow (28kbps dial-
up). If it were better I'd probably build a fixed package for that.

I have no idea on how to backport things. I can jusr compile and fix.
I am not a KUbuntu developer but just a user.
If I am provided with the right infos, I could also send a backported
package.

[Bug 49498] Re: With Evince I can't copy text out from PDF documents created with cups-pdf

2007-12-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
upstream bug comment

I just tried it with Acroread 5.0 (which is from 2001) on Windows XP, and I get
roughly the same as the output in Comment #1. The difference is in the
underscores.

*MPI__(SGYQIRXS___RSR_WEPZEXS 4EKMRE___HM__
RMGSPE$GEZIVKRS_b__WYHS__IXG_MRMX_H_GYTW]W_VIWXEVX
4EWW[SVH_
___6IWXEVXMRK_'SQQSR_9RM\_4VMRXMRK_7]WXIQ__GYTWH_?_SO_A
RMGSPE$GEZIVKRS_b_

I'd really like to see acroread pull the data out correctly.

What version of acroread do you use?

[Bug 175263] cannot report to Razor

when reporting spam via spamassassin razor complains:

/usr/share/perl5/Mail/SpamAssassin/Plugin/Razor2.pm line 178. at

But there actually is a identity, which is also read.
A strace reveals that it rather croaks on looking for something like:

I've just started seeing a similar bug on Gutsy - not sure if it's the
same one. It only happens with e-mails from a certain person (who, as it
happens, runs Thunderbird on Windows). If I hit Reply, I get my own
address in the To box instead of hers. I have looked at the message
headers and can't see anything obviously wrong. I've attached a sample
of the headers from one of the problem messages.

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-12-10 Thread Id2ndR
Jose,

No I haven't made a mistake. I put an other example. Here we want to do the
same thing except that we also need to patch the source.
To resume :
- get the source : apt-get source (instead of wget)
- build environment for compilation : apt-get build-dep
- patch the source (this wasn't done for the other package)
- build package : dpkg-buildpackage -b -rfakeroot (I just don't know what is
-uc switch that Kip used)

[Bug 117255] Re: [gutsy] broken dependencies in python-matplotlib

2007-12-10 Thread Benji2
Hi,
As in the current packaging, matplotlib, numpy and scipy seems to correctly
work together and install painless. Yet matplotlib has heavier dependencies
than necessary, depending on both Python2.4 and 2.5. Requiring to install
Python 2.4 should not be needed anymore.
This may be related to bug 159952 about python-tz
