[Bug 30659] Re: should detect ekiga (voip) activity as activity and not lock screen

2008-01-04 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
(Actually, I think dimming the screen would be fine, but not turning
it off or locking it.)

Note that, with the current GPM, the screen does dim between when the
session is idle and when the screen is blanked. Of course, this doesn't
happen if the screensaver is inhibited because the session never becomes
idle. That means that, because voice-only calls inhibit the
screensaver, the screen will not dim. Currently, the inhibit options are
limited to display and computer sleep, AFAIK.

[Bug 178558] Re: Firefox 3.0 makes everything annoyingly huge

2008-01-04 Thread Guillermo Pérez
I find a solution for this problem!!!

1) Go to about:config
2) Search dpi. The value may be set to -1 (maybe auto-detection)
3) Change it to 96 (default dpi)
4) Enjoy Firefox 3!!!

BTW: I thing this should be set to 96 by default. With the zoom the
small text sizes on high DPI screens can be solved, and if you want to
use small fonts it's just your option. You can change it in gnome.

I can confirm that this is also the case with Totem Movie Player 2.20.0

streaming internet media on Totem goes, clicking ahead stops the stream
completely.

Surely this counts as a request for new functionality as the program

[Bug 178558] Re: Firefox 3.0 makes everything annoyingly huge

2008-01-04 Thread Martijn van de Streek
No, the DPI shouldn't be set to 96 on a 150dpi screen. It should be set
to 150.

firefox should cope and offer a way to configure its size (for people
who like small images with large text), instead of forcing everything to
be huge.

Re: [Bug 174393] Re: firefox crashes

2008-01-04 Thread sureshbabu basavayya
Hi,

I can't even reply to your mail using firefox. Even clicking, to add comment
to the incident causes firefox to disappear. Howver no .crash files
are generated
 on my system:

 ls -al /var/crash
total 8
drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 4096 2008-01-04 14:08 .
drwxr-xr-x 15 root root 4096 2007-10-30 14:03 ..

Is there any option to invoke firefox with some debugging enabled ?

Best Regards,
Suresh.

[Bug 180291] Firefox crashed whilst browsing a website - this was repeated shortly after restarting the session.

2008-01-04 Thread Robert Johnson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Shortly after starting Firefox and viewing a website
(http://www.baa.co.uk/heathrow) the browser closed, and an error message
showed. A second error message informed me that Rhythmbox Music
Player had also closed, despite me not having knowingly opened it. On
resuming the previous session in Firefox, the browser closed again after
about 1 minute, with the same error message (I'm sorry but I didn't note
down the full error details)..

I was then asked to submit a bug report. I have not done this before
(being quite new to Ubuntu) and expected to be given an opportunity to
upload the report file. I have unfortunately not found such a facility,
and therefore apologise if this report is useless without further
details.

[Bug 56655] Re: No good proxy conf, for synaptic...

2008-01-04 Thread Berdir
Since my test upgrade to hardy, I have a similiar probem with gksudo

configured the proxy directly in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/, but this is not
possible for every program.

[Bug 139045] Re: Slow suspend on various Toshiba laptops

2008-01-04 Thread rossdotw
I have a Tecra M3. When the machine is undocked your patches work
flawlessly, however if the machine is sitting on the docking station it
behaves in exactly the same way as the unpatched kernel. The screen
blanks, the docking station power indicator switches off which seems to
suggest something has happened but the power light stays on on the
laptop and the fan switches to full blast. I have left it like this for
10-15mins many times but it never seems to enter suspend. Opening the
lid switches the screen on, but it is blank and does not respond to

2008-01-04 Thread bertwest
Oh dear! I totally forgot this issue!
Sorry!

Yes, the screenshots in the bug #156550 look similar.
This issue can be solved like described in the other bug report: Install the
fglrx drivers and do a proper config in the xorg.conf.

How to go on?
Do you still need further information?
This bug could be marked as duplicate of the other bug ...
For me personally it also could be marked as fixed (egoistic, I know:-)

[Bug 139080] Re: Intel pro/wireless 3945ABG WEP can't connect : its happened to me too

2008-01-04 Thread AleX-75
I run Ubuntu 7.10 on a DELL D830 notebook.

My wireless card INTEL PRO 3945AB is recognized but it doesn't connect
to my WLAN.

I tried with WPA, WEP and none authentication but there is no way to get
it work.

Sometimes I get the connection but I lose it very quickly.

With another notebook with Windows XP I cab connect without problems.

The sistem log reports the following lines:

error getting ESSID for device eth1: Resource temporarily unavailable

and after a while

Activation (eth1/wireless): association took too long (120s), failing
activation

This is a big problem for me, please could you help me to solve it?

Best regards.

[Bug 180312] compiz won't autodetect driver

2008-01-04 Thread Scott Enderle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

7.10-amd64
nvidia graphics card

When I went to enable desktop effects in the appearance dialogue, it
didn't work. I then tried running compiz manually and received the
following error:

No whitelisted driver found
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

I've installed the restricted driver, so I know it's there. I opened up
the compiz script and eventually figured out that this line breaks on
64-bit installations:

XORG_DRIVER_PATH=/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/+

It ought to read

XORG_DRIVER_PATH=/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/+

The relevant Xorg logfile line reads

(II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so

So /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/+ ... won't report the correct
driver.

Timo, Bryce, the new Debian version of xfree86-driver-synaptics now
builds xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, too. Can we drop our *source*
package xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and sync with Debian, or do we need
to merge some changes?

[Bug 180309] MigrationAssistance doesn't use localization settings

2008-01-04 Thread Vincent
Public bug reported:

When using MigrationAssistance to retrieve Windows XP's (btw, are other
OS's going to be supported?) documents, it will automatically place them
in ~/Documents, ~/Music, ~/Pictures and ~/Video's, even when the
language was set to Dutch and the corresponding folders thus had to be
~/Documenten, ~/Muziek, ~/Afbeeldingen and ~/Video's.

Thanks.

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2008-01-04 Thread maor
this is my ambitious attempt at tackling this issue.
i created a blueprint at
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/handlingtooagressivepowermanagment
that summaries the usfull information found in this bug report (and became
impossible to extract because of the high noise ratio) and brainstorming
possible solutions.
i just want to clarify that i am not a Ubuntu developer and there is no
guarantees that someone would actually even try to fix this bug.
i think the key to solving this issue is to simply find out how is it that
windows is not suffering from this issue. i know people think windows do not
suffer from this issue because it does not write to the hard drive as often as
Ubuntu but according to comment
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi-support/+bug/59695/comments/308
that is not true and bringing Ubuntu to the same state as windows is a
acceptable solution to most users.
