[Bug 187967] Re: [regression][M6 LY] blue box instead of video output

2008-02-01 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I installed http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11689116/xserver-xorg-video-
ati_6.7.197%2Bgit20080201.bcd59010-0ubuntu0tormod%7Egutsy_i386.deb for
testing and the situation is at least changed

My internal display is 1024x768. This has never been a problem. I also
have an external display (TFT with 1680x1050 native resolution), working
fine as dual-head with the feisty driver. After installing above package
and restarting X, I get a 1024x768 clone display. System - Preference -
Screen resolution still does not show anything else, but I am told this
applet is still a work in progress, some might even say outright broken
(did work fine for me with the feisty driver!).

xine does display video fine now on the internal display but the problem
remains on the external display (both are shown at the same time).
Maybe this has to do with the external display not being driven at its
native resolution.

[Bug 173322] Re: mc display corrupted

2008-02-01 Thread Peteris Krisjanis
This is because of Unicode locale (issue 'locale' command in terminal to
see settings), which propably uses non-fixed fonts, so it ends up
borked. Workaround is temporary using LANG=us_US or or other language
without Unicode binding (aka us_US.UTF-8) before mc, aka 'LANG=us_US mc'

[Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf - Smb/Gnome sharing broken

2008-02-01 Thread casualprogrammer
This is getting _really_ ridiculous.

One of the reasons I dropped Ubuntu is this sense of having to protect
users from themselves.

It closely resembles handing somebody a car, but not the keys, because
he could do harm to himself and others.

Grown up users deserve grown up distributions.

Have a lot of fun...

[Bug 59616] Re: keyboard not working after logging in via gdm

2008-02-01 Thread Miguel Rodríguez
The problem seems related to the a11y plugin. Deactivating it manually

gconftool-2 -s /apps/gnome-settings-daemon/plugins/a11y-keyboard/active
-t bool false

fixes the problem for me. If I reactivate it, the keyboard stops working
again.

HTH.

[Bug 66623] Re: warning: GRClosure invoking callback: already destroyed

2008-02-01 Thread Chiron
Is there any word as to the status of this bugfix in Hardy? I don't mean
to nag or harass, but this bug is quite important to me. I'm writing a
piece of software that runs into this issue intermittently and
unpredictably. Unfortunately, in this case, applying the patch myself
isn't sufficient, since that won't help users.

I'm hopeful that this bug will be resolved in the next release, but I
haven't noticed any activity related to it in a while, which is making
me kind of nervous.

[Bug 187997] [NEW] alcMakeContextCurrent crashes

2008-02-01 Thread The Fiddler
Public bug reported:

Bug encountered on Ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10 and affects both x86 and x86_64
architectures.

This is a known bug of the outdated sample implementation: calling
alcMakeContextCurrent more than two times results in a crash. This issue
is descibed in detail at the OpenAL mailing list:
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal/2008-January/010881.html

Quote:

It was caused by alcMakeContextCurrent trying to (re)set the output
parameters of the playback device to those defined in the given context.
However by the second time it's called on a context, the device is
playing. Under ALSA, this causes crashes.

IIRC the latest SVN version has this fixed. You might have better luck
with OpenAL-Soft though since I don't know of any plans for another SI
release.

This bug affects our application (OpenTK, http://www.opentk.com). The
recommended solution is switching to an unstable OpenAL version, or
abandoning OpenAL in favor of OpenAL-Soft, which will likely become the
Sample Implementation in the future.

In Windows XP Home Edition, all network connections are mapped through the
Guest account. If the Guest account is not enabled or if the Guest account does
not have the appropriate share permissions, the connection does not work
correctly. If the Guest account has sufficient share permissions, but the Guest

in the test http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/result/1258/54

I fill in all of the data of the installer, I manually partition.

After pressing the final install button, I get first Removing
conflicting operating system files but this hangs for at least a couple
of minutes. I then press skip on the dialog and I get The installer
needs to remove operating system files from the install target, but was
unable to do so. The install cannot continue..

This was on a dual boot system, and if I reboot I get a grub 15 error,
and the windows boot partition is completely erased.

[Bug 187999] [NEW] Sample Implementation does not support alGetSourcei with AL_*_OFFSET parameters

2008-02-01 Thread The Fiddler
Public bug reported:

From the OpenAL mailing list:

 Hello everybody,

I'm writing a streaming aplication that uses openal for linux
distributions (particularly ubuntu 7.10, the one i'm using for testing).

I'm using the function alGetSourcei and passing AL_BYTE_OFFSET in order
to get the amount of bytes passed from the start of the buffer queue.
 The function is returning AL_INVALID_ENUM.

Unfortunately, AL_BYTE_OFFSET (and AL_SAMPLE_OFFSET and AL_SEC_OFFSET) were
not supported in the last release of the sample implementation. The only way
to fix it is to either get the SVN version, or more preferrably, use OpenAL
Soft (which better conforms to the AL spec):

[Bug 148408] Re: [M6 LY] System lockup when switching VT's or Resume from Suspend

2008-02-01 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I installed http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11689116/xserver-xorg-video-
ati_6.7.197%2Bgit20080201.bcd59010-0ubuntu0tormod%7Egutsy_i386.deb for
testing and the situation is more or less unchanged or possibly even
worse.

After installing the updated driver, restarted X and went to the console
and the computer already froze right there. With the stock gutsy driver
this only happened after trying to get back into X. Instead of the
login greeting, the screen showed a bunch of strange patterns in
greyscale.

I restarted the computer and tried once more. The situation was now
basically the same as always. Going to the VT console was possible as
was a login. A complete restart of X was also possible, but going back
to a running X session froze the computer with only a hard reboot as a
way out.

Going back to feisty version.

Re: [Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf - Smb/Gnome sharing broken

2008-02-01 Thread fishor
Actually there is nothing about security. It is about to keep Windowx Xp
incompatible to Ubuntu. The same way m$ do ;)

Let's see some facts:
- Ubuntu (Nautilus) _can_ access Ubuntu(samba) with security=user
enabled
- WinXp _can't_ access Ubuntu(samba) with security=user enabled
- WinXp _has_ security=user by default too, but it _can_ sync usernames.
- ubuntu ( samba ) _can't_ sync usernames, but it keep Guest account
open so Ubuntu ( Nautilus ) can access it.
- WinXp theoretically can access Ubuntu(samba) with security=user
enabled, but it need to know about opened Guest account.
- security=user + opened Guest account = almost the same us
security=share, with one exception WinXp do not know any thing about
this.
- opened Guest account _is_ security problem by default in ubuntu

So about what kind of security we talking???!!!
Is default security=user real secure???

For example we can use
security=user (smb.conf default )  + opened Guest account (smb.conf
default ) + map to guest = Bad User (Nautilus default)
what is the same what Ubuntu ( Nautilus ) do.

[Bug 188007] [NEW] gconfd does not unblock signals properly

2008-02-01 Thread Isaac Clerencia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgconf2-4

This bug has already been submitted to upstream, but they won't react:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=505488

When gconfd-2 is started it does not unblock signals properly. This becomes an
issue when the following two conditions are satisfied:

- The gconf library is used from a process which has previously blocked some
signals
- The process is responsible for launching the daemon for first time.

If that happens gconfd-2 will not receive some signals which are supposed to be
delivered, such as SIGHUP, SIGTERM...

Steps to reproduce:
1. kill any gconfd-2 process
2. use the library from a process which blocks signals like HUP, TERM
3. try to send SIGTERM or SIGHUP signals

[Bug 188005] [NEW] Massive lag in pulseaudio

2008-02-01 Thread Oli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I'm using module-alsa-sink to route pulseaudio through to hardware (for
compatibility with non-pulse-supporting apps) and I've noticed that it
takes a couple of seconds for actions like pause, stop, play, volume-
change etc to have any effect on the sound output.

I used pacmd to list-sinks and discovered a very high [looking] number for my
alsa-sink. Here's the output:
  * index: 0
name: alsa_output.hw_0
driver: modules/module-alsa-sink.c
flags: HW_VOLUME_CTRL LATENCY HARDWARE
state: RUNNING
volume: 0: 100% 1: 100% 2: 100% 3: 100% 4: 100% 5: 100%
mute: 0
latency: 82125 usec
monitor source: 0
sample spec: s16le 6ch 48000Hz
channel map:
front-left,front-right,front-center,lfe,rear-left,rear-right
