[Bug 188964] Re: Please sync smplayer 0.6.0~rc1-1 from Debian unstable (main)

2008-02-05 Thread Matvey Kozhev
From: Cyril Breuil [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: Sikon [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Re: smplayer package in Ubuntu

In fact i don't have anymore time to contribute to ubuntu.
So i would be happy if you take care of smplayer package in ubuntu.

2008/2/5, Sikon [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

I have noticed that you haven't been active recently with smplayer
 updates.

I have got a new upstream version of smplayer, 0.5.62, into Ubuntu. I've
 also
become the Debian maintainer for smplayer, and uploaded version 0.6.0rc1
 there.

Since you don't seem to be involved with Ubuntu as actively anymore, would
 you
mind if I adopt the smplayer package in Ubuntu and become its maintainer?
 Or
would you rather continue maintaining it yourself?

Thanks in advance for your reply, whatever your decision is.

 Sikon

[Bug 188907] Re: Lock GNOME upstream translations

2008-02-05 Thread Данило Шеган
Djihed, please look through my comment. Fine-grained locking over the
messages is technically very hard at the moment. We're slowly going
there, but it's impossible to do so many major changes to the system in
a short period of time.

We also don't want to force communication on upstreams, but rather on
Launchpad translators who are currently not doing enough of it. If they
communicated with you, we'd all have much better translations, and we'd
be a very happy bunch.

No, I marked it invalid because it doesn't make sense that there is

was, that's a bug with compiz not gnome-screensaver. They're at the

saying the bug is invalid, I'm saying that assigning it to
gnome-screensaver is invalid and that is all that I changed. It might
be an X bug, but it seems most likely to be a compiz bug to me.

Suspend and hibernate work when using intel adapter (GM 965; stamina mode),
but do not work (fail to resume) when using the nVidia adapter (speed mode;

[Bug 189183] [NEW] sshd hardcodes SSHD_PAM_SERVICE

2008-02-05 Thread Tore Anderson
Public bug reported:

Line 99 of openssh-4.6p1/debian/rules:

$(MAKE) -C build-deb -j 2 ASKPASS_PROGRAM='/usr/bin/ssh-askpass'
CFLAGS='$(OPTFLAGS) $(PIE_CFLAGS) -g -Wall -Wpointer-arith
-Wuninitialized -Wsign-compare -Wno-pointer-sign -std=gnu99
-DLOGIN_PROGRAM=\/bin/login\ -DLOGIN_NO_ENDOPT
-DSSHD_PAM_SERVICE=\ssh\ -DSSH_EXTRAVERSION=\
$(SSH_EXTRAVERSION)\'

From auth-pam.h:

#if !defined(SSHD_PAM_SERVICE)
# define SSHD_PAM_SERVICE   __progname
#endif

This macro is then used in the pam_start() call in auth-pam.c. The
results of this is that there is no way to have two separate sshd
processes with different PAM configurations. You can specify different
sshd_config-files, sure, but they end up using the same PAM config file
no matter what. The expected behaviour is that if you symlink /usr/sbin
/sshd-opie to /usr/sbin/sshd and start it using the sshd-opie symlink,
it should be using /etc/pam.d/sshd-opie instead of the default.

It would be much better if the binary didn't hardcode this, or at least
provided some way of overriding the PAM service name at run-time.

I think this bug stems from Debian. I know it's not unusual for Debian
packages to have eccentric limitations and modifications added, but I
hope it can be fixed in Ubuntu anyway.

[Bug 187549] [NEW] KNetworkManager with network-manager-vpnc - no configuration in gutsy

2008-02-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

pretty fresh install of gutsy, fully updated with all repos.

I installed network-manager-vpnc so I can connect to the vpn at my office.
After installation, KNetworkManager has a new menu item, VPN Connections (yay!)
unfortunately, the only submenu item available is Disconnect VPN, and it is
grayed out.

I looked at some similar bugs, but none seemed to apply to this exact
situation. Something that seemed to come up often was all sorts of
'nm-' commands. The only one I have is nm-tool, which only reports
status information.

A quick response is appreciated!

Re: [Bug 182176] Re: Hardy Alpha 3 desktop windows won't move or resize or minimize

2008-02-05 Thread Miguel Martinez
@Jerry,

I see you installed Hardy from the CD. I have then a couple of questions.
Do you have a separate /home partition? If so, what kind of eyecandy did
you install under gutsy and feisty? I'm basically trying to find out
whether your issues are related to a config file clash. Oh! and just for
the record: what's your graphics card? I fear I've missed it.

@wilbur

If your macbook has an ATi card, I fear you're out of luck by now. The
proprietary fglrx driver doesn't support AIGLX under xserver 1.4 (hardy's
version) and the free drivers (either radeon or radeonhd) released still
don't support 3D on these cards. If you have an X1600, though, you could
compile radeon from CVS.

jerrylamos escribió:

 fixed it.

The screen flashed, keyboard response immediately got much much faster,
windows such as Applications, Accessories, Terminal came right up,
 movable, resizeable, the whole bit.

As installed the Visual Effects did not have any of the None, Normal,
 Extra choices checked.

Just tried Normal and that works too.

Extra also works, however when windows are dragged they smear a bit.

On this system the bug is that NONE of the choices were selected as
installed by Ubiquity or whoever is supposed to look after such things.
Note I've installed Hardy a couple of times and the same metacity
--replace was required. Next install I'll check the Visual Effects
 after install.

Thanks for the fix - and it even persists on rebooting.

I looked at my 3x faster system. As installed, the None box is
 checked.

 Thanks, Jerry

[Bug 189184] [NEW] memory saving patch to dosfsck

2008-02-05 Thread Kimmo Hämäläinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dosfstools

This patch saves about 25% of RAM (about 4MB for every 2GB of space)
when checking an FAT file system. This is important especially in mobile
devices using large FAT file systems. The patch was written by Eero
Tamminen (eero.tamminen at nokia.com).

Attached patch uses always the memory allocated for the first FAT. If second
FAT is better, it's contents are just copied to memory allocated for reading
the first FAT. When checking 2GB card, it saves almost 4MB of RAM, for 8GB
card the saved amount would be significantly larger. -- Eero

[Bug 173890] Re: flashplugin-nonfree fails to install... new version?

2008-02-05 Thread furicle
This bug is still outstanding on a 32 bit gutsy clean install.
I've done nothing on this machine but install gutsy, then the updates, then
attempted to install the flashplugin via the firefox 'install plugins' bar. It

Re: [Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2008-02-05 Thread Francesco Potortì
At some point it worked (in Edgy) and using the same hardware with
Gusty/Hardy introduced the problem. So the question is, was the
autosuspend introduced in Gusty what broke it or was it something else?

No, it was before Gutsy. To me, it happened after some upgrade in Edgy.

If it was the autosuspend, yes we have workaround but, how about getting
USB 2.0 and autosuspend to work at the same time. If it was not the
autosuspend, then we would like more debug done to see where's the
conflict in the echi_hcd module and hopefully get it fixed.

My motherboard has most probably USB 1 ports. When I had the problem in
Edgy, I had to remove the ehci_hcd module to solve it. Now with Gutsy
ehci_hcd is not loaded any more, and everything works. Even If I load
ehci_hcd by hand everything keeps working.

Ok, then it was probably an old version of libfreetype (not installed as
ubuntu package) causing the problem. After removing all libfreetype

2008-02-05 Thread Kip Warner
True. I hate to say it, but they were a rather miserable bunch to have
to deal with. At least as far as those who were around in their irc
channel back when I tried to explain it to them. Basically it went
something like this, there is a problem, here is what is happening,
here is a stack trace, steps to reproduce, and I've even done some
debugging for you and know exactly what line it is raising the exception
at. The response was something like, it works fine for everyone else,
so it must be something you're doing wrong. There isn't any problem,
because if there was one, we might have to do something about it. So I
just left it at that and went about my business.

[Bug 189195] [NEW] Middleclick (click on middle button) causes odd behaviour

2008-02-05 Thread kripkenstein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Middleclick in Firefox 3.0 is left at the default, which is to paste.
This means that a middleclick not on a button or a link (i.e., on some
blank area) will cause whatever is in the clipboard to be opened as if
it were a link. If the contents of the clipboard are not a URL, then a
popup appears with

The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded

which is very odd to someone not expecting it. If the clipboard happens
to contain something similar to a URL, it will be opened in a new tab,
which is also potentially very confusing.

To change this, the option middlemouse.paste should be False (that
would be my recommendation).

[Bug 189193] Re: Installer crashed

2008-02-05 Thread Graham
I was dong an install in VirtualBox to a physical hard drive

Host OS: WinXP (sp2+virus stuff)
Guest OS: Kubuntu 7.10

This was running a pre-installed Kubuntu

In WinXP I deleted a partition in the WinXP disk management tool to leave the
partition from which I was currently running WinXP.
I attached the real HDD to the Kubuntu VM as a primary slave.
Booted Kubuntu VM in VirtualBox
I installed ubiquity package
then ran it up and preceded to install on to the real disc creating a root and
swap in the space.

Installer ran OK and created the partitions (I think), but then crashed.

Not a standard install, yes, but I wonder if this is just highlighting a
problem with the installer or is it because I am doing a back flip with
the installer :-)

Hey Ho.

[Bug 188537] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-02-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The bug might be fixed with the new versions, closing this one if you
run into the issue again could you open a new one using apport so it's
retraced?

[Bug 175436] Re: Hardy LiveCD fails to identify nVidia 8400M GS on Sony Vaio SZ

2008-02-05 Thread litemotiv
i am experiencing the same problem with a 8400GS on a Dell XPS M1330.
what i see here, is that the wrong kernel module is loaded for this
videocard. even after manually installing nvidia-glx-new, this error is
thrown:

Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 71.86.01, but
this NVIDIA driver component has version 169.09.

this error is persistent, doing a:

rmmod nvidia
modprobe nvidia_new

solves it for the current session, it falls back to legacy however after
a reboot.

[Bug 189135] Re: nautilus-cd-burner allows burning oversize ISOs to CD-RW

2008-02-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug. Could you run gconf-editor and look at the /apps
/nautilus-cd-burner/overburn key value? Could you set the debug key
there and run nautilus-cd-burner on a command line, burn the iso and
copy the log to the bug?
