[Bug 190393] [NEW] Fix for Speaker swtich not on by default with Thinkpad T61/X61
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: alsa-utils On Thinkpad T61/X61 or any other notebook using the AD1984 sound card. There is a lot of confusion as no noise comes out of the speaker even though PCM is at Maximum volume. The issue here is that the AD1984 now has a switch for Headphone Speaker. But having this switch cut on in the init script this resolves this issue and has sound coming out of the speakers head phone jack. Has been tested and will finally have these just work on Thinkpad T61. This clears up a lot of issues, just googling around you can see users need this problem fixed. Re: [Bug 190393] [NEW] Fix for Speaker swtich not on by default with Thinkpad T61/X61
Hi, Please submit patches against the debian source: debian/alsa-utils.init in the future. Thanks. William On Sat, 2008-02-09 at 07:49 +, Jerone Young wrote: Public bug reported: Binary package hint: alsa-utils On Thinkpad T61/X61 or any other notebook using the AD1984 sound card. [Bug 129955] Re: usplash prevents system from booting
DaveW : Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. Your bug sounds really like bug 54621 and I would be very surprised that it is really caused by usplash since it's a kernel panic, but we should not exclude any possibilities. In order to get more information about the issue that you are experiencing, can you : 1. Boot your computer multiple times without usplash and multiple times with usplash? If the bug is really usplash related, you should always be able to boot when usplash is not started. 2. [Bug 59695] High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
So , the hard disk doesn't exactly go into suspend when the disk head is parked, so the kernel doesn't get to know that the disk head is parked(because standby=parking) - it interprets this as a sign that the hard disk is in Active/Idle mode.So it doesn't bother stopping data from being written to the disk - this will inevitably cause the head to unpark from the ramp. What do you guys think of this ?I think the problem is associated with the way in which the standby command is issued (by the kernel?).My disk never went to standby on laptop-mode , just a bunch of head parkings. .I used hdparm to find the mode of the HD.Hdparm doesn't wake up the disk from standby by state -in contrast to smartctl. -- High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 154929] Re: Monitor Turns Off Instead Of Bootup Splash
Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. The Status of the bug report was Fix Committed. That status should be used when a patch is sent to -proposed repositories. Concerning the vesafb part, the ubuntu choice to reject vesafb as a framebuffer driver was not based on nothing. vesafb can probably cause different issues that ubuntu expect to avoid to his final users and adding it will probably not fix the issue for everyone since the problem you describe can be caused by many different things. Also, AFAIK, vesafb is deprecated. I think that you may want to discuss of these matters with ubuntu developers. However, please don't use coarse words like stupid, this cannot lead to good community work, we need to respect the work of each other. Ubuntu code of conduct : http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct Maybe that you can help ubuntu developers to improve the actual situation if you're wiling to consider all aspects of the problem, and that is, that there is a incredibly high number of hardware part that ubuntu is expected to work with. [Bug 190129] Re: screen resolution reset at maximum resolution at login
This just started to happen to me too with the updates of 8th or 9th of february. The current wrong resolution after booting is 1900 x 1200 for both the login screen and the desktop. My monitor is a 21 CRT, for which 4:3 is the right aspect ratio. I normally use a resolution of 1400 x 1050 or 1600 x 1200, depending on what I do. The driver I use is NV. BTW, the resolution of the login screen also used to be correct in my system. At least when I used the Nvidia driver for a while ago, the resolution was the same for the login screen and the desktop.
