[Bug 123963] Re: Ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10 documentation updates have not been done

2008-03-03 Thread Martin Pitt
The attached debdiff is quite broken (DOS line endings, and fromdos does
not appear to fix it). For sponsoring, what do I need to do to get the
uploadable source package? just check out the branch and debuild -S?

Right, the package needs to go through -proposed first. Updating the
documentation is appropriate for SRU.

[Bug 197905] [NEW] Synaptics trackpoint detected as generic mouse on Fujitsu t2010 laptop

2008-03-03 Thread dnquark
Public bug reported:

On a Fujitsu t2010 laptop, the synaptics trackpoint device is not
detected as a trackpoint in hardware. Instead, it is detected as PS/2

[Bug 197633] Re: epiphany is not listed in the preferred application choices

2008-03-03 Thread James Westby
Hi,

Thanks for the extra info.

I think there are two possible fixes for this issue.

The problem is the g-c-c checks for epiphany in the path.
This is a shell script shipped by the epiphany-browser package
that just execs epiphany-browser. That is an alternative provided
by both -gecko and -webkit. This means that you can have a valid
epiphany installed, but not have epiphany in the path.

The two fixes I see are:

  1) Switch epiphany to use epiphany for the alternative,
and not install the shell script.

  2) Switch g-c-c to check for and use epiphany-browser
   for epiphany.

I'm assigning this bug to both packages so that the maintainers
can come to an agreement.

Thanks,

James

Re: [Bug 197772] Re: compiz ring switcher doesn't work for all workspaces

2008-03-03 Thread pawel
Thanks for the reply :)
It seems I've been using desktops rather than viewports. There appears
to be some conflict between compiz / beryl / gtk-window-decorator (I'm
quite new to all this). I've changed the number of workspaces in the GL
desktop panel back to 1, then I was able to increase the number of
viewports by right clicking on the workspace switcher. It's a bit of a
mix-up actually, because I was having problems with original desktop
effects (I was losing window bars when I turned them on, and could not
find a solution on the forums), so I installed emerald, but then added
the 'gtk-window-decorator --replace' command to the session manager,
because that got me the original window decorations back AND I could
also use the desktop effects without losing window bars. The problem is
when I now want to start the GL desktop panel, the window bars switch
back to emerald, and I have to execute the gtk-window-decorator
--replace command again before the GL desktop can be launched. Also,
when I do this, the viewports are back to 1 again. It looks like GL
desktop overrides the original workspaces settings. I suppose I've made
a bit of a mess here :)

Travis Watkins pisze:
Are you actually using workspaces (virtual desktops) or do you use
viewports? Using virtual desktops is not supported, you need to use
viewports. When a window is on another virtual desktop it basically
doesn't exist, ring cannot support this.

[Bug 56369] Re: akregator is not crash proof

2008-03-03 Thread Thomas Grauschopf
When shutting down three days ago, there was a kernel panic before
syncing the disks.

After that, akregator crashed, too. I'm running KDE 3.5.8, Kontact
Version 1.2.4 (enterprise 0.20070907.709405) on Gutsy.

To resolve this, I deleted two files in .kde/share/apps/akregator: lock
and lockPgRNWa.new.

akregator seems to work again now.

[Bug 196464] Re: After gdm upgrade no X cliens can be run

2008-03-03 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Some files packed into a tgz file is attached. My home directory:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -ld ~
drwxr-xr-x 239 lgb lgb 20480 2008-03-03 09:06 /home/lgb
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ whoami
lgb

(note: pidgin segfault can be seen in file 'dmesg' is already reported
as #197146 by me, so ignore it here)

Now I've discovered that this bug is easier to reproduce if:

1. lock the screen
2. login from remote via ssh
3. install packages/upgrades (gdm as well?) via apt-get from remote
4. come back to the console
5. try to unlock

It does not work, no password input dialog or shown, only mouse cursor
blinks. If I switch to text console and kill gnome-screensaver, then
switch back to my X/gnome session, the reported bug occures, no X
clients can be run. However I don't remember that ALL similar bugs were
got only in this mode ...

[Bug 197912] [NEW] Network Manager adds domain name where it shouldn't

2008-03-03 Thread folle
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 7.10
Network Manager

Do the following in the network manager:
1) Set the computer name -for ex. comp
2) Set the domain name - for ex. net
3) Go to the Computers tab and add new computer for ex. IP 192.168.1.2 and
alias comp,
4) Close the Network Manager
5) Open the Network Manager and check the computers tab, you will see tha the
IP address 192.168.1.2 has alias comp.net while it should have been only comp

The result is that I can't connect to the internet or the computer runs very
slow. I can't connect to the internet on my laptop using WiFi and on my desktop
everything is very slow.
To repair this i have to edit manually /etc/host and remove domain name .net
from the alias. After that everything runs smoothly.

[Bug 197911] [NEW] Multiple Software Security Device popups

2008-03-03 Thread David
Public bug reported:

Hi.

I'm running Debian Testing, and normally use their iceweasel package
(based on ff 2.x). However, that can be agonizingly slow with javascript
on Gmail (around 90% CPU usage for a single open google chat window, on
a 3.0 ghz Celeron CPU). So I'm trying ff3 instead, from Ubuntu. The
javascript handling is said to be much faster.

I've noticed several problems in firefox-3.0 so far:

1) I'm behind an authenticating web proxy. When I start firefox-3.0, it
wants to log into several places simulataneously (check for add-on
updates, re-open previous tabs, etc), it needs to first prompt me for my
Software Security Device password.

Firefox-3.0 spams me with 20-30 password boxes, instead of all the other
processes waiting for the 1st password box to finish. Debian Iceweasel
(Testing) doesn't have this problem.

2) In Gmail, chat popup windows don't have a nickname at the top
(whoever you're chatting to). There's just a Iceweasel doesn't
have this problem.

David.

[Bug 197917] [NEW] Averages messed up when values go to 0 when network connection down.

2008-03-03 Thread kahealani
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rrdweather

cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu (is either a lie or is generic, it's Kubuntu on AMD64)
DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=gutsy

500 http://archive.ubuntu.com gutsy/universe Packages
500 http://mirrors.kernel.org gutsy/universe Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I hacked on the installation until it worked correctly during network outage,
now leaving blank gaps in the graphs during network outage, versus all values
dropping to zero and messing up the averages.
I altered the cgi for English versus Metric units, and scaling the
barometric pressure readings for English units in Inches of Mercury. As it was,
pressure reading graphs ranged from 0 to 40 in.Hg, whereas global historical
records indicate 25.6 to 32.01 as the practical range, so I rescaled as 25 to
32,
which displays as 20 to 40, doubling the sensitivity of the graph. Hopefully
something in my tbz2 file will help the developers, though I may have
hacked something wrong in the process, at least it works now.
The result:

I'm not sure: System → Administration → Hardware Drivers shows “NVIDIA

Also, in the System Monitor's Resources tab on Hardy, the graphs'

only when the window is somewhat wider than the minimum)—is that this
bug or a separate one?

Also, did you get a crash handler pop up for the crash?

If so then reporting through that would provide more information.

Thanks,

The Problem is:

You can work around with deleting
** (gnome-settings-daemon:12691): DEBUG: Activating xrandr plugin
** (gnome-settings-daemon:12691): DEBUG: Starting xrandr manager

Seems the redhat patch breaks the xrandr plugin in hardy

Hi Ralph

Thank you so much for responding. I hope this reply gives you enough
additional info to work with.

Attached are 3 screen shots of the 3 places, that I am aware of, where I
can change fonts on my machine (2 in the system settings, 1 inside
OpenOffice.org itself.)

I have changed fonts/options in each panel (2 times each,) and with each

originally posted.

Please feel free to contact me should you require any additional info.

@Daniel: I'm sorry, I momentarily forgot that the summary of this bug

something like incorrect profiling files created, and indeed the
profiling files created in ~/.gnome2/gnome-power-manager are called
'profile-generic_id-generic... and so on. With that patch (at least I
_think_ it's that patch), the files are named 'profile-CP194245-XX'

2008-03-03 Thread Bigbiz
IT WORKS!!! IT WORKS!!!

The solution of Jan Rathmann works on Hardy 64bit with nVidia 8500!

1) added vga16fb, fbcon and vesafb to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
2) outcommented the blacklisted vesafb and vga16fb in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer
3) added vga=795 (1280x1024) to the kernel options in /boot/grub/menu.lst
(and splash option if not present)
4) modified setting usplash resolution to the same value in /etc/usplash.conf
(xres=1280 and Yres=1024)
5) sudo update-initramfs -u

Now usplash wors perfectly!

Thanks Jan!

this package is not in hardy, but comes from the bzr PPA; the fix is to
rebuild bzr and bzrtools in the bzr PPA with the current version of
python-central. Sorry for this necessity.

[Bug 193985] Re: jockey-kde crashed with AttributeError in ui_main_loop()

2008-03-03 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks, James, but calling ui_init() in check is the wrong way to fix it
IMHO with the current code structure, since ui_init() will bring up the
main window. But --check should just keep the tray icon alive and
process events there. In gtk this can be achieved with gtk.main(). Does
Qt have a similar 'static' function?

If not, can we change ui_main_loop() to check for an initialized mw
first, and if that does not exist, run some exec() function on the tray
icon instead?

If that is not suitable for the Qt implementation, I could also split
ui_init() into ui_init() and ui_show_main() upstream, if that's better?

Re: [Bug 47809] Re: No Carrier on dial up

2008-03-03 Thread Sergio Zanchetta
Do you mean you reinstalled sl-modem driver from restricted manager?

2008/3/2, chris [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
OK more weirdness. That new driver gave me IRQ conflict errors with my
wireless card (bcm43xx: FATAL ERROR: BCM43xx_IRQ_XMIT_ERROR) and caused
my computer not to be able to hibernate (got a message OsSleep: Should
not sleep this long in this context!).

BUT, I uninstalled it and installed the restricted driver from the
repository and now it works again.

  Very, very odd...
