[Bug 45944] Re: Ubuntu Server Guide Not Installed On Servers

2008-03-26 Thread Steve Langasek
Another option would be to add details on how to install the local
package and view it in the motd.

I'd rather opt for this option.

That seems to be bug #159371, then. Does the patch at the end of that
bug address this issue to everyone's satisfaction?

[Bug 207526] [NEW] default main.cf.tls causes syslog warnings

2008-03-26 Thread Emil Sit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

The default postfix conf in Debian git and also in
postfix_2.5.1-1ubuntu1.diff.gz includes the lines:

  smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${queue_directory}/smtpd_scache
  smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${queue_directory}/smtp_scache

Since Postfix 2.5, this causes the following errors in syslog:

Mar 26 23:08:13 yyy postfix/tlsmgr[8508]: warning: request to update table
btree:/var/spool/postfix/smtpd_scache in non-postfix directory
/var/spool/postfix
Mar 26 23:08:13 yyy postfix/tlsmgr[8508]: warning: redirecting the request to
postfix-owned data_directory /var/lib/postfix
Mar 26 23:08:13 yyy postfix/tlsmgr[8508]: warning: request to update table
btree:/var/spool/postfix/smtp_scache in non-postfix directory /var/spool/postfix
Mar 26 23:08:13 yyy postfix/tlsmgr[8508]: warning: redirecting the request to
postfix-owned data_directory /var/lib/postfix

This is an incompatibility noted at
http://www.postfix.org/TLS_README.html#client_tls_cache (and
correspondingly for server side cache) and http://high5.net/mirrors
/postfix-release/official/postfix-2.5.1.RELEASE_NOTES

Simply patching s/queue_directory/data_directory should fix this bug.

I'm running Hardy with:
$ apt-cache policy postfix
postfix:
  Installed: 2.5.1-1ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.5.1-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.5.1-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Attached is a patch against the git upstream.

[Bug 206974] [NEW] mouse scroll delay in first person shooters

2008-03-26 Thread klerfayt
Public bug reported:

This is really odd issue that is not apparent in ubuntu 7.10.

Games tested:
wolfenstein: enemy territory
enemy territory: quake wars
warsow

How to reproduce:
start the game, toggle console with the ~ key -- scroll wheel up slightly
twice -- notice the 3 second delay for 2nd scroll up in game console
--/or/-- scroll wheel down slightly twice -- notice the same delay for 2nd
action.

[Bug 206978] [NEW] Request For Package for ChironFS

2008-03-26 Thread Luis Otavio de Colla Furquim
Public bug reported:

Package request for ChironFS

Chiron FS is a FUSE based filesystem that implements replication
at the filesystem level like RAID 1 does at the device level. The
replicated filesystem may be of any kind you want; the only
requisite is that you mount it. There is no need for special
configuration files; the setup is as simple as one mount command
(or one line in fstab).

[Bug 206979] [NEW] Nautilus occasionally hangs when DnDing an item and passing over Network Servers

2008-03-26 Thread Philip Kovac
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release:8.04

nautilus:
  Installed: 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3
gvfs:
  Installed: 0.2.1-1ubuntu1
gvfs-backends:
  Installed: 0.2.1-1ubuntu1

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open a nautilus window with a Places sidepane.
2) Drag a file from your desktop into the main pane, passing over the Network
Servers Places entry.

Expected Behavior:
Nothing should occur on passing over the Network Servers entry.

Actual Behavior:
Nautilus (and the entire UI, including mouse) hangs for a short time, possibly
trying to perform some network operation that times out.

No possibly-blocking action should be taken with regards to a drag and drop
target until the drag is ended by releasing the mouse button.
Oddly, as I write this bug, I can't seem to recreate it, so maybe I'm missing
another triggering condition. However, it seems to be more than simply
incidental, as I've noticed it many times in casual use.

It should be noted that I am running Compiz, which may relate to my
whole UI hanging instead of simply nautilus.

[Bug 206980] [NEW] Laptop screen dims after several minutes of use

When running Hardy, my laptop (Dell Latitude D420) screen occasionally
dims (back light intensity is decreased) regardless that the computer is
not idle. Back light can be returned by adjusting the screen brightness,

Did this occur with 7.04 as well? I have never seen this, and I am using

There have been issues with black/white reversal, but they were
reproducible, and due to a bug in imagemagick.

[Bug 206983] [NEW] Removing a wireless network with network manager does not remove the password from keyring

I am using Hardy. When I remove a wireless network configuration with

you later try to connect to another network with the same name, the
system attempts to use the old password instead of prompting for a new

[Bug 206985] [NEW] scripts in /etc/acpi/resume.d not being run

[Bug 206984] [NEW] Wrong dpi in hardy when second monitor is disabled

2008-03-26 Thread Matti Laakso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Xorg in Hardy beta seems to use wrong resolution (DPI) when two monitors
are connected, but one of them is disabled. This results in e.g. wrong
aspect ratio of videos in totem (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/198054). I think
this bug is the same as here (status invalid):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/38946.

When one monitor is disabled, xdpyinfo shows

screen #0:
  dimensions:1920x1200 pixels (1049x331 millimeters)
  resolution:46x92 dots per inch

which is obviously wrong. With both monitors enabled

screen #0:
  dimensions:3840x1200 pixels (1049x331 millimeters)
  resolution:93x92 dots per inch

and everything works correctly.

Also, Xorg.0.log has a line

(--) NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (93, 92); computed from UseEdidDpi X config

Note that I'm using NVidia drivers (171.06 beta) with twinview enabled.
Prior to upgrading to hardy this issue did not exist, so I don't think
that this is an NVidia bug.

[Bug 204937] Re: [hardy] kernel oops triggered by trackerd

2008-03-26 Thread Benjamin Herrenschmidt
Note to the triagers: while I can't exclude the possibility, it doesn't
smell like an architecture bug to me, more like a generic bug. The quad
is SMPx4 and I was doing extensive disk accesses while trackerd was
running, using multiple filesystems (ext3 and xfs), so the kernel was
quite exercized in ways that I suspect a lot of users don't, which
would explain why this didnt' show up on x86.

I'll torture the machine see if I can get that to happen again, and
maybe find out a repro-case.

Just for my understanding, sane-backends isn't a package name, but it is

sane-backends is the source package name. libsane is the relevant
binary package name. sane-utils is another, which contains tools like
sane-find-scanner, but it is not required to use xsane, etc.

Also, can you state the exact version of the update, because it isn't
working yet on my machine (amd64 kubuntu hardy, updated a few minutes

[Bug 206470] Re: udev - wrong permissions in udev rules for usb camera

2008-03-26 Thread ignacio
Same problem, Gutsy beta amd64, I have a Canon G9, tried f-spot and
gtkam and I couldn't detect the camera, although it shows up in lsusb.
In Hardy (32) it worked out of the box.

[Bug 206991] [NEW] File operations dialog doesn't remember its position

2008-03-26 Thread Jon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

If you have a long file transfer going, and you move the File operations
dialog to a corner of your screen, any of the following events will
cause the File operations dialog repositions itself to the center of the
screen:

 * you start another transfer
 * you cancel one of the transfers
 * one of the transfers finishes
 * you click the File operations icon in the notification area twice (once to
hide the dialog, then again to re-show it)

The file operations dialog should stay where I put it. Otherwise, it
appears to be a different dialog.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 beta + all updates as of March 25, 2008. dpkg

[Bug 192407] Re: Thinkpad T61 crashes on resume from suspend

2008-03-26 Thread Karl Martin
With a fresh installation of Ubuntu Hardy Beta 64bit the above mentioned
problem does not occur anymore. Therefore, I conclude that this problem is
restricted to the 32bit version.
However, there are other minor problems with suspending in the 64bit version:
After resuming mostly a white screen is displayed instead of the password
prompt. However, after entering the password the desktop is correctly
displayed. Only sometimes a white area in the lower right corner of the screen
remains even after suspending again. The mouse pointer is shown in this area
but clicking on the area where the panel applets are usually located does not
cause any reaction. After restarting X everything is fine.
