the errors reported when I looked at it with sudo dpkg --configure -a

[Bug 50385] Re: samba can't be launched by a normal user (qemu related)

After the workaround I did, samba started and was usable from a w2k in qemu.
(I did start chmodding only one file and manually starting smbd and then it
complained about another one and then another one...)

still exists with hardy packages: qemu 0.9.1-1ubuntu1, samba 3.0.28a-

typing in smb://LAN IP, all you get is nothing in Nautilus. What you
have to do is to add the full name of the shared folder right after the
LAN IP to make it look like smb://LAN IP/SharedFolder.

Are you able to access the server LAN_IP with the smbclient command line

[Bug 197606] Re: [SRU] Invalid db.table name 'g2_AccessMap' at /usr/bin/mysqlhotcopy line 845

2008-05-08 Thread Chuck Short
Statement of impact:

This prevents the user from using the mysqlhotcopy script.

How this bug has been addressed:

Hardy originally had a broken mysqlhotcopy script that we tried to fix
in the hardy dev cycle but there was a typo in the patch. I have updated
the patch for 8.04.1 and included it in this SRU request.

TEST CASE:

1. Install mysql.
2. Create a database called test
3. Run the mysqlhotcopy command: mysqlhotcopy --username=root test
/tmp/test.data
4. The command will not work properly and you will probably get the folloiwng
error Invalid db.table name 'g2_AccessMap' at /usr/bin/mysqlhotcopy line 845.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thanks

Re: [Bug 225532] [NEW] system-config-printer crashes on an unrecognised locale

en_NG is in fact missing from /var/lib/locales/supported.d/en . After
adding it there using gedit, like so: lang_LOCALE.encoding, gnochm no
longer crashes, however, it doesn't display the document text, and
still prints the error message. It populates the contents pane fine

[Bug 227747] Re: firefox crashes site: http://politics.nytimes.com/election-guide/2008/results/demmap/index.html

2008-05-08 Thread markkanen
Today morning after half hour internet surfing, I tried site:

guide/2008/results/demmap/index.html and it worked! After that I did
close firefox and started it again. I tried to load url above and
firefox close by itself.

Yea, tracker results are pretty poor and also displayed poorly at the moment.
Deskbar+tracker is an improvement imo, but still could be better.
See the ars critique of tracker in Hardy:

[Bug 220249] Re: Apple Wireless keyboard needs a manual disconnect before reconnecting.

2008-05-08 Thread Robert Lange
32-bit Hardy, upgraded from Gutsy. Using a diNovo Media Desktop Laser
keyboard and mouse in hci-mode, not hid-mode. Each device is paired and
trusted in bluetooth-properties and appears to work normally, for the
most part.

My system has original Hardy bluetooth configuration files -- I have
made no manual changes to them.

I have a very similar problem. After a long break (15-20 minutes or so,
I don't know for sure as I have not timed it), when I move my mouse, I
get no response. If I use another device to open bluetooth-properties,
I see that the mouse is connected, but it is non-responsive to my
movements or clicks. If I use the bluetooth-properties dialog to
disconnect the mouse, the next time I move the mouse, it reconnects.

Note: my bluetooth dongle provides no lights to indicate whether it is
receiving data.

This is a big problem for me, because I bought my Bluetooth keyboard and
mouse set with the intention of eliminating my wired keyboard and mouse.

Fortunately, it *appears* as though the diNovo keyboard is not affected
by this. It always seems to reconnect as soon as I hit a key,
regardless of how long I have left the system unattended. So currently,
my workaround is to use the keyboard to navigate to the bluetooth-
properties dialog and disconnect the mouse, thereby restoring service to
the mouse.

This gets the job done, but is very annoying, as I have frequent
interruptions throughout the day. I would be glad to help fix this, but
I don't know where to start.

Laptop mode doesn't disable synchronous operations, so you can add a
sync in the loop to flush the change to disk.

[Bug 92652] Re: C-cedil not present in US-International keyboard

2008-05-08 Thread Eduardo Cereto
I spent the last days trying to patch xkeyboard-config in order to create a new
variant br(br-intl). Even so I had a hard time with symbols files. when I set
the key to dead_cedilla it does work outputing ç an Ç but then it won't output
á,é,í,ó and ú.
I want the key to be dead_cedilla when the next key is c and to be dead_acute
when the next key is either a,e,i,o and u. So the ´ key would work as supposed.

I heard some guys on irc saying that to fix this issue you should change
LANG on /etc/environment to pt_BR.UTF-8. But it didn't work for me.
Don't know exactly how this locale stuff works.

it would be good if someone steps up to mentor this bug for me.

[Bug 224240] Re: update of plugins fails after upgrade to hardy

2008-05-08 Thread Dietmar Winkler
Kubuntux, Have you started eclipse as root? In order to install plugins
system wide you need to do sudo eclipse.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: eclipse

After the upgrade to Hardy I couldn't update or install any plugins. I
  always got the message:

  - Current configuration problems -
Resulting configuration does not contain the platform.

In the end I found a solution. Looking at /usr/lib/eclipse there were
some broken links etc. So the configuration in this directory seemed to
- be broken. After deleting the whole directory /usr/local/lib and
+ be broken. After deleting the whole directory /usr/lib/eclipse and
reinstalling the eclipse packages I could finally get access to all the
installed plug-ins again(even the ubuntu-packaged plugins like pydev
  were not shown before).

So I think the eclipse package needs some mechanism to either remove
/usr/lib/eclipse before upgrading or to check for problems in that
directory before the upgrade of the eclipse package.

here's the debdiff of the package I created. please note that while this

[Bug 34199] Re: Evolution cannot connect to Exchange backend process

2008-05-08 Thread Enryfox
I had the same problem yesterday: on 05/02 the pre-release updated fixed
most of the issues, but the new 05/07 pre-release update renders
evolution unusable (exchange connector loses connection after few
minutes from start-up). I then uninstalled all evolution packages,
disabled hardy pre-released updates and installed evolution from the
officially hardy updates repository. This version seems quite stable and
usable; i sincerely hope the evolution 05/07 pre-release update will
never be officially released !

cheers

[Bug 115525] Re: no brightness control in sony vaio vgn-fe31b

2008-05-08 Thread huiii
i have a FZ 31 m.
if u look arround in forums, u will see, that nobody succeeded to get the fn
keys to work,, i myself tried lots and tons of solutions, but none of them seem
to apply..
$ grep . -r /var/lib/acpi-support/*-*
/var/lib/acpi-support/bios-version:R2110J7
/var/lib/acpi-support/system-manufacturer:Sony Corporation
/var/lib/acpi-support/system-product-name:VGN-FZ31M
/var/lib/acpi-support/system-version:C6006T3W
i tried smartdimmer, but that asks for nvclock.
i installed nvclock from repo which is the latest (nvclock 0.8beta3) and that
says it just supports nvidia cards up to 7xxx series.
i got now, lets see what this does...
$ sudo nvclock -S 15
Error!
Smartdimmer is only supported on certain laptops using a Geforce 6200/7x00Go.
If you want support on your laptop contact the author.
aha
so that is my unfortunate loop, and of all FZ owners...

You can adjust the font size for the scim application (including the

[Bug 180087] Re: Processes tab causes GLib error

2008-05-08 Thread BandD
Maybe that it the problem then. I pulled this icon out of an icon set I
got from gnome-look.org as is with the .svg tag. But after looking at
the file in detail, it is indeed a .png. So perhaps the problem is when
a file labeled as .svg is actually a .png. Trying to open the .svg one
in image viewer doesn't work. But if I rename it to firefox.png it
works fine. So perhaps a mislabled icon is to blame.

[Bug 223081] Re: Hardy kernel causes overheating

2008-05-08 Thread Janne Moren
A few more notes:

* The enormous number of wakeups from the USB subsystem can still be
triggered without unplugging a mouse; it is a lot less frequent though.

* The kernel still locks up.

* This kernel bug seems to be the same as #204996
(https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/204996)

* I'm not really sure it absolutely must be temperature related, though
it does seem like it. The Gutsy kernel reacts by stuttering; Hardy
reacts by freezing up. And that also explains why reboots have to wait a
while - the machine is overheating and trips safety temperature levels
again from the high system activity at startup.

[Bug 217936] Re: Allow delay of update-manager download start to use cheap bandwidth

2008-05-08 Thread Savvas Radević
So what you're basically suggesting is a bandwidth scheduling or traffic

deluge-torrent has something similar to what you suggest for bittorrent
downloads, a plugin that can set the download/upload rate to full or lower or
even disable at some times of the day, with a single mouse click you can affect
a lot of times during the day/week. Could be useful if such an application will
ever be created :)

[Bug 204996] Re: Linux kernel 2.6.24-12 lockup

I posted bug #223081 -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/223081 - with what
seems to be he same problem. And it rather looks like the machine is
overheating, with the kernel failing to contain the temperature rise and
resulting in the system freezing. That also explains why a reboot
directly afterwards is failing, since the system activity at reboot
causes the hot machine to overheat again.

2008-05-08 Thread Martin Pitt
Sean Diggity O'Brien [2008-05-08 5:36 -]:
There is nothing in /var/log/apparmor. None of the info above seems
helpful, so please let me know if I should look elsewhere.

Unfortunately AppArmor kernel errors do not land there, but in
kern.log. Please try

  grep audit /var/log/kern.log

right after you reproduced the problem. Thanks!
