As it turns out, winbind 1.0-rc2-1 was added to -updates as a

[Bug 247084] Re: bind9 init script status_of_proc() call should use pid

2008-07-16 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Hi Lamont-

Debian upstream has accepted the full status_of_proc() function,
including pid file support. This simplifies the bind9 status action.
It requires lsb-base = 3.2.14.

I'm dropping this updated patch here for posterity, perhaps you can
integrate it into Debian's bind9 in due time, when lsb-base 3.2.14 hits
'testing'.

Thanks,
:-Dustin

[Bug 244411] Re: Samba shares never work with winbind installed (8.04)

2008-07-16 Thread howl
Steps to reproduce, with winbind started:
1. Browse the share.
2. Share can't be mounted error appear.

If winbind is stoped (# sudo /etc/init.d/winbind stop) the share works normally.
If winbind is started again, it's possible to access to shares that were
accessed before winbind start but not to the ones that weren't accessed before
the start.

think there are also some things wrong with the snd_pcsp module and

[Bug 248906] [NEW] brightness keys are not working though osd shows an adjustment

2008-07-16 Thread Oguz Yarimtepe
Public bug reported:

After checking some other bugs that are related with my problem i
decided to open a new one because the solutions referred there didn't
work for me and there may be some other issues that i am missing.

The main problem is the nonworking of brightness function keys, fn+f4
and fn+f5. I am using Ubuntu Hardy with a Gnome desktop. It is a fresh
install and i have the doubling problem reported in a
href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/239706;#239706/a
and in a
href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/207473;#207473/a,
though the solutions didn't work for me.

After the installation i was seeing atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e01e
keycode' to make it known. output at the dmesg. I tried ti fix it but
it didn't help me set the brightness.

I will add the step by step procedure of what i did at this report.

[Bug 246823] Re: New upstream release of gwyddion (2.10) available

2008-07-16 Thread feranick
Jan,

First of all, thanks for you work on packaging Gwyddion for Debian. I
don't think it should be you doing the actual sync. When Gwyddion was
first released in Ubuntu Hardy, Ubuntu maintainer for the package did
the actual sync from Debian unstable, so this should be the same for
this new release. I don't know if the syncing of the repositories from
Debian unstable is still open for Ubuntu intrepid. If it is not,
Gwyddion 2.10 will be pushed for Ubuntu 9.04. Hopefully not.

Anyway I post here the info from Debian:

http://packages.debian.org/unstable/science/gwyddion

I hope Ubuntu maintainer will be able to sync to 2.10 for Intrepid and
possibly back-port it to Hardy.

Nick

P.S. I am running 2.10 (from Debian) on Hardy with no problem.

[Bug 149203] Re: If update-manager -d fails, you can't try again

2008-07-16 Thread Saurabh Rindani
As written earlier, I had a problem with upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10 using
update-manager because of not enough free space. After that I could not
get update-manager to give me the option to upgrade to 7.10.

I have the following further information:

I found that I could get update-manager (in feisty) to show the option
to upgrade, after copying the correct meta-release file (obtained from
changelogs.ubuntu.com) under

.update-manager-core/

and

/var/lib/update-manager/

(I had to be careful that the network proxy setting was correct --
setting network proxy for direct connection instead of the correct
server ip address led to these files being replaced by html error
messages).

However, on clicking on the upgrade button, the upgrade fails, and
update-manager hangs. If I had used update-manager -c from a terminal,
the message is:

Traceback (most recent call last):

[Bug 248906] Re: brightness keys are not working though osd shows an adjustment

2008-07-16 Thread Oguz Yarimtepe
** Description changed:

After checking some other bugs that are related with my problem i
decided to open a new one because the solutions referred there didn't
work for me and there may be some other issues that i am missing.

The main problem is the nonworking of brightness function keys, fn+f4
and fn+f5. I am using Ubuntu Hardy with a Gnome desktop. It is a fresh
- install and i have the doubling problem reported in a
- href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/239706;#239706/a
- and in a
- href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/207473;#207473/a,
- though the solutions didn't work for me.
+ install and i have the doubling problem reported in
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/239706 and in
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/207473, though the
+ solutions didn't work for me.

After the installation i was seeing atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e01e
keycode' to make it known. output at the dmesg. I tried ti fix it but
it didn't help me set the brightness.

I will add the step by step procedure of what i did at this report.
+
+ After the fresh installation i was able to see osd when i press the
+ fn+f4 (brightness down) and fn+f5 (brightness up) keys. This pressing
+ weren't effecting the brightness of the backlight so when i check the
+ log messages i saw the setkeycodes message. After check'ng the acp'd log
+ message and investigating the video_brightnessup.sh script i check the
+ key-constants and see the values of KEY_BRIGHTNESSUP and
+ KEY_BRIGHTNESSDOWN. I added these values to /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh
+ script. I also created a .Xmodmap file under my home directory and via
+ xmodmap -pke and edited the keycodes (101 and 212) that i saw at xev
+ output and set them as XF86LaunchD and XF86LaunchE. After this edit, the
+ current acpid log and xev output are attached with this report.
+
+ Now i don't see any setkeycodes messages at the dmesg but pressinf the
hotkeys don'y adjust the brightness.
+ I checked the lshal -m output and see the doubling of key pressed but
disabling video module didn't help me. After blacklisting the video module i
was not able to use neither the Power Manager Birghtness Applet nor the hotkeys
to set the brightness.
+
+ Trying to set the brightness manually from
+ /proc/acpi/video/VGA0/DD03/brightness didn't make any effect also.
+
+ It may be a hal bug or something else. Seems there is a problem with
+ gnome-power-manager and/or hal. I may give more information additon to
+ the below files if needed.

Actually, my system use Debian stable (etch). I picked Ubuntu in launchpad.net
bug reporting system because the Debian option returned the package is not
found in Debian. I think Debian and Ubuntu works similar.

This is what returned frm apt-cache policy epiphany-browser:

Sorry for the misplacement and thank you for the query. It delivered me a new

[Bug 248917] [NEW] Colordiff misses one line of output or eats enf-of-line

2008-07-16 Thread Alexander Chemeris
Public bug reported:

Try running `colordiff -u pulseaudio_output pulseaudio_output2`several
times and look at the end of output. You might see following:

code
...

or following:
code
-userdata=0x6338a0) at pulsecore/pdispatch.c:241
-#6 0x7f84fe613163 in pstream_packet_callback (p=0x63c460,

+packet=0x639a60, creds=0x64a870, userdata=value optimized out)
 at pulsecore/protocol-native.c:3105
/code
and eventually you might see correct result:
code
-userdata=0x6338a0) at pulsecore/pdispatch.c:241
-#6 0x7f84fe613163 in pstream_packet_callback (p=0x63c460,

+packet=0x639a60, creds=0x64a870, userdata=value optimized out)
 at pulsecore/protocol-native.c:3105
/code

With plain `diff -u pulseaudio_output pulseaudio_output2` I never
experience such problems. Looks very much like there is some race
condition or memory corruption somewhere in colordiff script or perl
itself.

I use Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64.

[Bug 248617] Re: nm-applet enable networking option issue (Hardy Heron 32bit)

2008-07-16 Thread marco.pallotta
Chris, I made some other tests and I have noticed that before I was wrong in
one aspect:
- at boot (with wi-fi disabled) eth0 doesn't appear if I type ifconfig (only
eth1 appeared)
- if I disable network with nm-applet the network connection is still active as
I described before, and only when I re-check the flag, in nm-applet, eth0
appears in ifconfig.

Then the behavoir and the issue are as described before.

[Bug 247055] Re: problems with kernel 2.6.24.19 reporting as 2.6.24.3

2008-07-16 Thread konradc
I was able to reproduce this using the latest VirtualBox version 1.6.2
source downloaded directly from Sun. Note that the Ubuntu repo has a
very old 1.5.6

I traced the VirtualBox makefile (line 138 of
./out/linux.x86/release/bin/src/Makefile) and it checks to make sure 2 values
match:
* uname -r
* /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-19-generic/include/config/kernel.release

The kernel.release file has the (erroneous?) value 2.6.24.3. I fixed
it by:

cd /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-19-generic/include/config/kernel.release
cp -p kernel.release kernel.release.bak
uname -r kernel.release

Afterwards, VirtualBox compilation should proceed as normal.

perform the sync.

place it in the same folder as Wubi rev 506+ downloaded from wubi-

You are welcome!

don't think it should be you doing the actual sync.
It would be great to get 2.10 into Intrepid.

I hope Ubuntu maintainer will be able to sync to 2.10 for Intrepid and
 possibly back-port it to Hardy.
That would be really great!

P.S. I am running 2.10 (from Debian) on Hardy with no problem.
That's nice to hear!

Many thanks for your explanations!

[Bug 246141] Re: no support for realtek rtl8187se

2008-07-16 Thread Matthew
The new driver compiled fine, with no patches or environment variables
set. The release notes specifically mention Ubuntu Hardy. I'm not sure
if they took Alex's patch, applied it and released a new version, or if
they did more.

I'm using the new modules now, seeing how long they're stable for.

[Bug 198884] Re: Wireshark halts in Capture Interfaces window when started using gksu (Hardy, Intrepid)

2008-07-16 Thread Michael Vogt
It looks like this can be triggered with the dumpcap tool itself quite easily:
$  sudo dumpcap
works
$ gksu dumpcap
hangs.

If I strace it, it hangs in:
close(3)= 0
socket(PF_PACKET, SOCK_RAW, 768)= 3
ioctl(3, SIOCGIFINDEX, {ifr_name=lo, ifr_index=1}) = 0
ioctl(3, SIOCGIFHWADDR, {ifr_name=eth1, ifr_hwaddr=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx}) = 0
ioctl(3, SIOCGIFINDEX, {ifr_name=eth1, ifr_index=218}) = 0
bind(3, {sa_family=AF_PACKET, proto=0x03, if218, pkttype=PACKET_HOST,
addr(0)={0, }, 20) = 0
getsockopt(3, SOL_SOCKET, SO_ERROR, [0], [4]) = 0
close(3)= 0
socket(PF_PACKET, SOCK_RAW, 768)= 3
ioctl(3, SIOCGIFINDEX, {ifr_name=lo, ifr_index=1}) = 0
ioctl(3, SIOCGIFHWADDR, {ifr_name=eth0, ifr_hwaddr=00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx}) = 0
ioctl(3, SIOCGIFINDEX, {ifr_name=eth0, ifr_index=219}) = 0
bind(3, {sa_family=AF_PACKET, proto=0x03, if219, pkttype=PACKET_HOST,
addr(0)={0, }, 20) = 0
getsockopt(3, SOL_SOCKET, SO_ERROR, [0], [4]) = 0
close(3)= 0
socket(PF_PACKET, SOCK_DGRAM, 768) = 3
ioctl(3, SIOCGIFINDEX, {ifr_name=lo, ifr_index=1}) = 0
close(3
...

and then nothing. I wonder if it might be something releated to the
stdout, e.g. gksu playing with the buffering options or something
similar.

[Bug 248923] [NEW] the FREEZE has came back, Return of the FREEZE

2008-07-16 Thread francesco44
Public bug reported:

Yesterday I applied the proposed Kernel update. in 8.04.1 kernel update
2.6.24-19 generic I think

I restart and went to Firefox...after 3 minutes...

I experienced a FREEZEeverything is stuck...mouse...keyboardno
other solution than a hard reboot.

This problem was frequent 3 weeks ago (no precise date). After few
upgrades, which one I do not know, this FREEZE problem ceased to appear.

Maybe this is the effect of randomness...but maybe you reintroduced the
FREEZE with the last Update

My machine is a Thinkpad X30 totally standard, with an very cautious and
standard install of Hardy

Good luck
