[Bug 247598] Re: dnsmasq might be vulnerable to recent DNS spoofing issue
New debdiff with an additional check recommended by upstream : In the function nl_routechange() at the end of src/netlink.c, a check needs to be added to ensure that daemon-srv_save-sfd is non-NULL. This avoids a segfault. If it is NULL, just returning from the function is fine. I checked that the resulting dnsmasq build still works as a DHCP and DNS cache, and the extra patch looks non-disruptive, you should nevertheless double-check it. ** Attachment added: dnsmasq_2.41-2ubuntu2.1.debdiff http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16140344/dnsmasq_2.41-2ubuntu2.1.debdiff -- dnsmasq might be vulnerable to recent DNS spoofing issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/247598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 29787] Re: Backspace key in GNU Screen not detected correctly
Just because it's a config issue, does not mean it's not a bug. The bug (as explained in the original description) is that changing it away from autodetect is required. Tracked down the source of the problem: vte will send whatever the terminal's erase character is, even when it's undefined (that is, '\0'); screen unsets erase and other keys. Vte ought to fall back on a reasonable value, rather than issue the obviously-wrong [EMAIL PROTECTED] ^? seems like a good candidate... Screen should probably leave the value alone as well. The problem isn't gnome-terminal: I've recently noticed that things like changing workspaces, or closing windows, can cause input not to be received in a window until I Alt-Tab twice to transfer focus away and back. ** Description changed: This installation: Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 beta. First, many thanks for an excellent beta-release of Gutsy. Add/Remove... app (gnome-app-install): 1) There is no reason what so ever to automatically quit and terminate the Add/Remove... app after it has given an error message. I my case it gives an error message because there's Synaptic working in the background with daily-updates and it holds the apt's lock-file. Add/Remove app reports an error and quits. Why it has to quit? Why not just report the error and nicely sitt in the background and wait user's next action. - 2) Add/Remove app (gnome-app-install) does not have a menubar. It does - not comply with the GNOME's HIG (Human Interface Guidelines). + DESIRED SOLUTION: - Hard to find any proper bugs. + The three current options of [Retry], [Add/Remove More Applications] and + [Close] should be simplified to just [Retry] and [Close], as [Close] + implies closing just the dialog, but actually closes the whole + application. The behaviour of [Close] should take the current behaviour + of [Add/Remove More Applications]. -- A tiny bug: Add/Remove application terminates unnecessarily. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146734 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 249328] [NEW] Unhelpful SQUASHFS error messages
Public bug reported: I just installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 with a lot of pain (5 tries necessary). Configuration: 1GB mem, 320GB SATA, AMD Athlon 1800XP, ATI9250 Please note that I successfully installed versions 6.10 7.04 (and various other distros) without errors on the same computer. During 2 of the installation attempts I got thousands of SQUASHFS errors like this (not at the same % of the installation): [00123.173770] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read cache block [12345678:141e] I don't know if there was a pb with the CDROM, CDROM reader or the memory (or something else), but the messages should not be displayed like that, ther are not helpful. 1) there is no need to display thousands of messages, it's confusing and you can't read them since they scroll so fast in the install console 2) the message cannot be more obscure! What's wrong? Is it a CDROM reading issue, some memory corruption? A harddrive issue? You can't solve the problem if the root cause is not included in the message... What would be nice to have instead: 1) group the messages, for instance only display one message every 100 read errors (or lower the default debug level) 2) explain what is the probable cause in the log messages themselves, something like: SQUASHFS error. An error occured while reading the CDROM. [12345:678678/1212121.4] That's not perfect, but at least a bit more readable. 3) after a number of errors, fail. With a detailled error message. There is no need to continue when there is a major problem like that. Then the installer should give you the choice between restarting the failed operation or rebooting (and it would be nice to suggest where the problem probably lies so that the user can try to solve it by changing CDROM etc.) Example of error message (from SQUASHFS), the installer should be more detailled: An error occured in SQUASHFS while trying to read the CDROM. The CDROM might be corrupted or there could be a problem with your CDROM drive. Please test those separately then retry. The reference number for this problem in SQUASHFS is #7541. === here you would provide an error code, for debugging purposes Thanks. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Unhelpful SQUASHFS error messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/249328 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 249336] [NEW] [Heron] file not found failure during installation goes to live-session without warning
(By live-session, I mean what you get by starting the install CD as a live CD, with the install icon, etc.) During the first installation attempt, I got an error message about some XML file missing at 81% (I think) of the installation process. Then the installer opened the live-session without any error message, giving the impression that in spite of the pb, the installation was finished. Since I had started the CD with the install option, and not the install icon from the live-session, I did not realize at first that the installation process had failed. It took me a few moments to notice the install icon that hinted that something had gone wrong. I think that a non experienced user would not have understood that the install had, in fact, failed. What I expected: 1) a single missing file should not have stopped the installation process. Given my installation problems, I guess that something must have been corrupted on the CDROM (though I managed to finish the install after several tries) but I was expecting the installer to ask if I wanted to retry/abort, I just got an short error message before the installer _silently_ aborted. 2) when the installer fails, it should say so in an obvious way. I mean with a clear and obvious message in a _big_ window. There were no messages at all to tell me that the installation process was stopped. 3) It would also have been nice if the installer had proposed to retry the whole step. Restarting from the beginning is really annoying. [Bug 249340] [NEW] Gutsy-Hardy upgrade hangs in localedef
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: locales I've been running Feisty for a while and decided to upgrade to Hardy. I used the Update Manager to upgrade from Feisty to Gutsy without problems last night. Tonight I decided to take the next step from Gutsy to Hardy. I again used the Update Manager GUI. But this time things didn't go so well. During the step Setting up locales (2.7.9-4) ... I get the following message: Generating locales... en_AU.UTF-8... Here are the relevant threads on the forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=861384 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=861194 Interestingly enough, both threads were started *tonight* and there are no relevant earlier threads matching localedef, which makes me suspect this was due to a very recent change. As a workaround, sudo killall locale-gen allows the installation to continue, though several packages fail to install due to dependency errors. + + I also submitted an automated bug report after the failed upgrade (bug + 249346). -- Gutsy-Hardy upgrade hangs in localedef https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/249340 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 248690] Re: do-release-upgrade fails to fetch package lists/packages (Hash sum mismatch)
The update process is fixed, the problem seems to be that the -d flag isn't necessary for 8.0.4.1 anymore (which was necessary for me since i started updated before the release). Run it without -d and it should work fine. I suggest that this bug still remains open, and that the tool finds a nice way to say that you can't upgrade to a non existing release, instead of these weird error messages.
