Same problem here. I had to recreate the certificates. But not only for
openldap, I had to recreate my CA certificate. This means I had to
recreate all my server certificates. Not very nice.

[Bug 249881] [NEW] Hardy slapd server is not supporting sasl/external authentication

2008-07-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On our dapper machines, we use the sasl external mechanism for authentication
on slapd, the ldap server.
On hardy this doesn't work any more. Running an ldapsearch for example produces
errors messages.

hardy ldapsearch against hardy slapd:
$ ldapsearch -H ldaps://ldap
SASL/EXTERNAL authentication started
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Unknown authentication method (-6)

and slapd (-d 256) says
conn=6 fd=16 ACCEPT from IP=100.9.0.234:45017 (IP=0.0.0.0:636)
conn=6 fd=16 TLS established tls_ssf=16 ssf=16
conn=6 fd=16 closed (connection lost)

Here, the client fails

fedora core 3 ldapsearch (ldap utils are linked against openssl) against hardy
slapd:
$ ldapsearch -H ldaps://ldap
SASL/EXTERNAL authentication started
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Authentication method not supported (7)
additional info: SASL(-4): no mechanism available:

and slapd (-d 256) says
conn=5 fd=16 ACCEPT from IP=100.9.11.1:38962 (IP=0.0.0.0:636)
conn=5 fd=16 TLS established tls_ssf=16 ssf=16
conn=5 op=0 BIND dn= method=163
conn=5 op=0 RESULT tag=97 err=7 text=SASL(-4): no mechanism available:
conn=5 fd=16 closed (connection lost)

This shows that the server actually doesn't support the mechanism.

Installed packages:

TLS_CERT /home/max/.ssl/usercert.pem
TLS_KEY /home/max/.ssl/user.key
SASL_MECH EXTERNAL

First it was suspected gnutls might not like certificates/keys generated
with openssl. But playing around with gnutls-serv and gnutls-cli using
the same files shows that gnutls works.

The search shows external is not supported by server:
$ ldapsearch -x -H ldaps://ldap -b  -LLL -s base supportedSASLMechanisms
dn:
supportedSASLMechanisms: DIGEST-MD5
supportedSASLMechanisms: CRAM-MD5
supportedSASLMechanisms: NTLM
supportedSASLMechanisms: PLAIN
supportedSASLMechanisms: LOGIN

apparmor is not running on the server.

The authentication is not working with neither when openldap user is a
member of ssl-cert group or not, i.e. has read permission on
/etc/ssl/private

[Bug 242383] Re: default postfix config creates backscatter

2008-07-18 Thread Michael Flaig
mydestination should be set to the hostname of the machine or any domain it
accepts mail for and serves it's mailboxes local
If postfix is just the relay for this domain you should set relay_domains and
not mydestination

IMHO, there should be no reason for setting mydestination and relay_domains to
the same value. Did I miss something?
What is relay_domains = $mydestination then good for?

In the old days you also sent mail from one host to the any other not using

2008-07-18 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When I type the command in the terminal sudo gedit

when I try the same with nano, I get a file with zero lines.

When I go to SystemAdministrationSoftware Sources, nothing is marked

multiverse and I get the following output:

Could not download all Repository Indexes

Followed by:

E: Line 1 too long in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.

and then:

E: Line 1 too long in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.

[Bug 249773] [NEW] [needs-packaging] Positron - Multitrack Video Editor

2008-07-18 Thread Tree MendUs
Public bug reported:

URL: http://positron.sourceforge.net/about.html

Description:

Positron is a capable Non-Linear Editor that any high-end user can
afford. The response from the community was overwhelming - not only did
they wholeheartedly encourage the project, they also willingly gave
ideas and volunteered their help. Robert Holcomb and Michael Thorn
quickly joined the project as developer and webmaster, followed shortly
by Daniel Cook and Paul Unterweiser. Martin Wacker joined in late July
as another developer. Since then, the project has taken off and is
looking forward to many exciting developments in the future!

Positron is geared towards replacing software such as Avid®, Apple's
Final Cut Pro®, and Discreet's Flame®. It is engineered to meet the
needs of professional editors working in studios with high-end
equipment, but does not exclude home video makers using their own
machines. Positron should just run more slowly, but will still be
stable.

License:

Positron is breaking new ground in non-linear editing by releasing the
first fully-functioned, feature-comparable NLE that is totally, 100%
FREE! Get it now!

[Bug 249203] Re: Segfault on XvMC + SMP (if two or more cores are enabled)

2008-07-18 Thread Vanessa Ezekowitz
Well after much finagling I was able to get a fresh Gentoo 2008.0
install onto my disk alongside Ubuntu. Using the nVidia driver supplied
by the repository (same version as in Ubuntu), along with my custom
kernel and the v4l-dvb repository.

I was able to get around the audio write errors above by explicitly
setting my audio device in Mythtv to /dev/dsp and making sure KDE/aRTS
was set to release the sound card after a few seconds. Same setting on
both distros.

However, the stream of prebuffering pause messages still persists only
under Ubuntu - the Gentoo side seemed more or less devoid of these
messages and the video was as smooth as I normally expected it to be.
Any amount of activity (such as a window gaining or losing focus) here
on the Ubuntu side will set off a stream of those messages, the video
and audio still get a little choppy, and if it gets too severe,
mythfrontend segfaults. I might be able to avoid this by enabling
realtime priority, but the last time I did that, it caused a hard lock.

It seems that the XvMC multi-core crash exists on Gentoo as well (odd, I
could have sworn I used it before). I guess that technically makes this
bug report invalid.

[Bug 91237] Re: java library not found

2008-07-18 Thread Jonathan Marsden
I've been able to duplicate and then solve this here, under Ubuntu 8.04
(on x86).

The issue causing mild confusion about this bug is that the current
package works fine using the default (java-gcj) JRE. However, if one
installs the Sun JRE and sets it as the default using

  sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-6-sun

*then* the symptoms of this bug appear.

Adding the extra library directory /usr/bin/jni is harmless to the java-
gcj JRE.

The solution now seems clear: add that directory to the library path in
the launch script. Therefore, I have created a fixed package of
iriverter, the .debdiff of which is attached.

I'll do my best to see this through to a new revision upload in the next
few days. There are a few packaging and lintian warnings I'll probably
clean up while I am inside the iriverter package tree, too.

Feedback is very welcome -- I'm new to Ubuntu development, though not to
Linux or to software development.

Jonathan

[Bug 248430] Re: Intermittent out of range error, Radeon

2008-07-18 Thread catch
I wasn't sure whether to put it as an autoconfiguration bug or the
driver, thanks for doing so.

I've attached the last two Xorg.log and the debugging information as
separate attachments. I should note that running with no xorg.conf (or
the one generated from dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg) gives me the AGP
8x/4x 'fuzzy screen' bug mentioned earlier (there's an existing issue
for that with advice to set to 4x) - hopefully there's enough from the
login screen and a few ctrl-alt-backspace for it to show up in the log
though.

[Bug 248430] Re: Intermittent out of range error, Radeon

2008-07-18 Thread Connor Imes
Thank you for following through with this. I am changing the package
from xserver-xorg-driver-ati to xorg because of the autodetect problem.
It seems strange that it only goes out of range some of the time - I
originally classified the bug under the driver because of this, but it
does seem to be a problem with xorg not working with your monitor
correctly after all.

I will mark this bug as Triaged with High priority so a developer can start
working on it. Please post one last thing to the bug report, the output of
  apt-cache policy xorg

[Bug 249783] [NEW] Wrong message when sharing a root-owned folder

2008-07-18 Thread Richard Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-share

Ubuntu 8.04.1
nautilus-share 0.7.2-0ubuntu5
When a user with admin/sharing privileges attempts to share a root-owned folder
(eg /shared) he gets the message:
net usershare add: cannot share path/shared as we are restricted to only
sharing directories we own
The message suggests we ask admin to add usershare owner only = False to
smb.conf.
Throwing security away just to share 1 folder on 1 occasion? - Not a good idea.
What it should do is put up a sudo-password box and share the folder.
Failing that, the message should suggest gksudo nautilus to run nautilus as
root to share the folder.

[Bug 214810] Re: Kernel Panic due to null pointer dereference in do_add_mount()

2008-07-18 Thread Colin King
Hi Chad,

Just to clarify, the original patch I built with was a fix that I saw a
discussion on from the Linux Kernel Mailing List Archive; subsequently a tidied
up version of the patch made it into the autofs git repo which I referred to in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/214810/comments/26 above -
however this patch won't apply cleanly and needs a little effort to be
back-ported.
I have discussed this with Ian Kent the maintainer and he has told me that
there are a few more patches pending that will be coming soon, so am waiting to
see what changes in the next week or so to see if any more relevant commits
come into fix this specific issue.

Hope this helps. Colin

[Bug 241475] Re: Hardy kernel upgrade to 2.6.24-19-generic breaks Parallels

2008-07-18 Thread TheReaperD
I'm having the same issue. I'm running a clean install of Hardy
(Kubuntu 8.04) so, my system jumped the 2.6.24-18 kernel update. I'd
rather not backdate it as kernel modifications are a little out of my
comfort zone at the moment.

If you need someone for testing, I would be willing to help out. I'm
not used to compiling things but, if I get a DEB package, I can take it
from there.

Thank you.

Re: [Bug 189621] Re: v86d missing, needed for uvesafb

It results in tty alignment being wrong (like its centre aligned not

Why do you do this? If you want to change resolution, you can use fbset.
And additionaly, 1280x1024 should be possible with standard vesafb
using vga=793 (or 794 or 795).

 Problem 2:

Trying to load video=uvesafb:1280x1024-32 wont run in the grub boot line
results in nothing occuring and the default vga res being activated.

Do you have uvesafb in your kernel (or at least in your initrd)? If not
you'll need to add those options in /etc/modprobe.d/ and not on the GRUB
command line.

[Bug 206648] Re: amulegui does not start in Hardy Heron

2008-07-18 Thread josu
I don't agree, the bug cannot be closed.

First, you updated the package amule-utils-gui to 2.2.1. From where?
Synaptic tells me that the latest version is 2.2.0~svn20080218-0ubuntu4.
What I asked to the package maintainer is to update to a 'non-svn'
version.

Second, you had to update the server too! I dont want to do this. In
fact, I don't know if it will be possible. What I would like is for
amule-gui to be compatible with ancient embedded versions of the daemon.

Although the second issue is not specific to Ubuntu, the first certainly
is.

Best regards.

[Bug 249794] [NEW] ia32-libs is missing libvorbis and libmad

2008-07-18 Thread Ville Koskinen
Public bug reported:

ia32-libs in 8.04 is missing two very common sound processing libraries
in 32-bit games and multimedia applications: libvorbis and libmad.
Curiously libogg is already included. An example application is
StepMania, which seems to be impossible to compile on 64-bit Ubuntu.

Workaround: compile libvorbis and libmad manually and copy to
/usr/lib32. Steps:

1. Download libvorbis from xiph.org.
2. Unpack.
3. CFLAGS=-m32 LDFLAGS=-L/usr/lib32 ./configure --target=i386-linux-gnu
4. make
5. DESTDIR=/tmp make install
6. sudo cp /tmp/usr/local/lib/libvorbis* /usr/lib32
7. sudo ldconfig

The steps are identical for libmad.

2008-07-18 Thread Lgfloss
The disk probably had some problem. It was burned by a collegue at work,
but I did not check it (though I should have). He burned it at a slow
speed. I still don't rule out a DVD reader issue, however.

The messages appeared during 2 of my 5 installation attempts. Each time
during the file to disk copying step. At 2 different percentage of the
step (hinting strongly at some cd pb).

As for the error messages, what I suggest is just to make them more
readable. As is, with such kind of messages, if you are not very
computer-savvy, you will be afraid you broke something or think it does
not work and drop Ubuntu (which is bad, especially when the problem is
just a bad cd). I think that a minor change in those messages will make
a _huge_ difference. If you search for the phrase 'SQUASHFS error, you
will see numerous questions about it. This illustrates that the messages
are not explicit enough.

I think that this is especially important when the problem occurs during
the installation. Since Ubuntu is usually not preinstalled, the install
step is critical, especially when you can't access to internet because
you are in the middle of the installation...

Another issue that I did not raise in my initial report is: would it be
possible for the installer itself to handle such problems? When some
component encounters an issue and stalls or fails, it would be nice to
have the installer itself stop and give you a retry/abort option. For
this component I'm afraid it would not be that easy however (you can't
just set up a timer on this kind of operation).

Thanks for the package change.

Regards.

[Bug 233787] Re: No display with Intel x3100 965GM Express

2008-07-18 Thread unggnu
From upstream:
So the problem is intel driver always assumes LVDS connected on mobile chipset.
And in this case there's no local flat panel on this machine with 965GM.

We can work around it with adding a quirk. But I'm wondering if we can do
better to completely resolve this kind of issues with adding LVDS detection
code in the driver.

For now I suggest users to work around it by explicitly disable LVDS in
xorg.conf:
1) Add
Option monitor-LVDS LVDS
in Device section
2)
Section Monitor
Identifier LVDS
Option Ignore True
EndSection

Could somebody confirm this?

[Bug 249802] [NEW] Restart of vpnc when not requested to stop.

2008-07-18 Thread Tim Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vpnc

Although an incredibly useful app vpnc isn't (yet) perfect and is known
to just drop it's connection and die at times. This is a known problem,
with no known solution, yet. But in the meantime...

How about an option to auto-restart vpnc when it dies?

The conditions, as far as I can tell, for a restart to happen would
simply be: If vpnc exits with exit code 0 and has not been requested to
stop, then restart it.

Currently I need to use a script running in the background to do this
for me as vpnc dies many times during a working day. Setting local port
to 0 and disabling DPD are also needed here too (see bug #206000 bug
#112406 bug #239570).

[Bug 199934] Re: Kernel Panic, in gdth (RAID) driver on reboot

2008-07-18 Thread Colin King
MartinK,

Teasing out which ioctl() is causing the driver to crash is not so
straight forward as I first imagined.

Is it possible to attach strace onto icpcon and do a shutdown so that I
can see what ioctl() is causing the driver to crash? Something like:

sudo strace -p `ps -e | grep icpcon | awk '{print $1}'`
strace_icpcon.log

And attaching the strace log would be most helpful.

Thanks, Colin

[Bug 246608] Re: USB ports unreliable

2008-07-18 Thread apinunt
Yes I have, and to elaborate further, when I initially installed ubuntu, I
immediately attached an external 500 GB drive to one of the front USB ports and
it worked fine for quite a while (weeks), at some point later I turned off my
system and disconnected the external drive for a day or two, and later rebooted
and used the system without the external drive connected. At some point I
needed to copy some files off to the external drive and reconnected it to the
same USB port as used previously and encountered problems copying a large
number of files to it, as described in the original post. I tried cleaning the
USB socket, using the 2nd socket, both of which failed, and eventually I found
one of the rear 2 sockets to work reliably, and I continue to use it currently.
I also have WinXP on the same computer and booting it allows me to use any USB
socket reliably with a USB 2.0 device. I have rebooted ubuntu several times and
can no longer use any of the other 3 USB ports reliably with it running, except
I find I can often copy small files to a memory stick with no problem, but not
large files which are slightly over 1 GB. They appear to copy about 3/4
complete, but are less than 1/4 complete on the memory stick.
lspci show the following:
00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8378 [KM400/A] Chipset Host Bridge
00:01.0 PCI bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8237 PCI Bridge
00:10.0 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82x UHCI USB 1.1
Controller (rev 80)
00:10.1 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82x UHCI USB 1.1
Controller (rev 80)
00:10.2 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82x UHCI USB 1.1
Controller (rev 80)
00:10.3 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB 2.0 (rev 82)
00:11.0 ISA bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8235 ISA Bridge
00:11.1 IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc.
VT82C586A/B/VT82C686/A/B/VT823x/A/C PIPC Bus Master IDE (rev 06)
I have no idea if this is what it would have displayed when all was working
well, and the manual for my motherboard shows specs for a VIA VT8235 South
Bridge, containing an integrated USB 2.0 controller supporting 6 ports,
although I only have connections for 4, the motherboard lacks pins where the
additional 2 ports could be added. The manual states the motherboard provides
two USB 2.0 pin headers, labeled JUSB2/3 that are compliant with Intel I/O
connectivity Design Guide. JUSB2 is where the front 2 USB sockets are
connected, and I've removed cleaned and reconnected the header. JUSB3 lacks
pins on the motherboard. The only mention of USB 1.1 in the manual is in
reference to USB 2.0 being 40 times faster.
It would appear to me that something must have changed when the system was
rebooted after the initial install as the problem only appeared after rebooting
Ubuntu 7.04.
I don't know where else to look for any info that might have relevance to this
problem, and if there is something I can do or look at, such information would
be greatly appreciated.

[Bug 249336] Re: [Heron] file not found failure during installation goes to live-session without warning

2008-07-18 Thread Lgfloss
** Description changed:

- I just installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 with a lot of pain (5 tries necessary).
+ (I think this topic is related to the Ubiquity project, but I'm not
+ sure)
+
+ I just installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 (live cd) with a lot of pain (5 tries
+ necessary).

  Configuration: 1GB mem, 320GB SATA, AMD Athlon 1800XP, ATI9250
Please note that I successfully installed versions 6.10 7.04 (and various
other distros) without errors on the same computer.

(By live-session, I mean what you get by starting the install CD as a
live CD, with the install icon, etc.)

During the first installation attempt, I got an error message about some
XML file missing at 81% (I think) of the installation process. Then the
installer opened the live-session without any error message, giving the
impression that in spite of the pb, the installation was finished.

Since I had started the CD with the install option, and not the install
icon from the live-session, I did not realize at first that the
installation process had failed. It took me a few moments to notice the
install icon that hinted that something had gone wrong. I think that a
non experienced user would not have understood that the install had, in
  fact, failed.

  What I expected:

  1) a single missing file should not have stopped the installation
process. Given my installation problems, I guess that something must
have been corrupted on the CDROM (though I managed to finish the install
after several tries) but I was expecting the installer to ask if I
wanted to retry/abort, I just got an short error message before the
  installer _silently_ aborted.

  2) when the installer fails, it should say so in an obvious way. I mean
with a clear and obvious message in a _big_ window. There were no
messages at all to tell me that the installation process was stopped.

  3) It would also have been nice if the installer had proposed to retry
the whole step. Restarting from the beginning is really annoying.

  Thanks.

[Bug 249798] [NEW] [Wishlist] Gnome Panel Clock Appplet does not display seconds by default

2008-07-18 Thread Conrad Knauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The Gnome Panel Clock Appplet's default is just to display hours and
minutes, e.g. as Windows XP does. I believe that the reason it was done
that way in Windows was to hide the fact that it occasionally skips
seconds as programs saturate the system resources; after enabling
seconds with a 3rd-party product you could watch to see if the system
was misbehaving (as usual ;) or if it was a full lock-up. In Ubuntu
however I've not had the skipping problem (and on the rare occasion that
something goes very wrong and the system becomes unresponsive, its a
good diagnostic).

So, as a wishlist item, please set the default to show the seconds.
