[Bug 256296] [NEW] 'option' driver should not claim to work for USB id 0af0:6911

2008-08-08 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

I have an Option iCON 7.2 USB UMTS/HSDPA device, with USB ID 0af0:6911.

It has new firmware (which also changed the USB id to the current one),
doesn't work with the 'option' driver, but does work with the 'hso'
driver (usb-add-option-hso-driver.patch in gregkh's linux-staging), so I
think it would be right if the 'option' driver didn't try to manage the
device.

[Bug 256290] Re: spellcheck does not work in openoffice

2008-08-08 Thread Parthan
Thank you for filing this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.
Unfortunately, you bug report lacks some basic information which we need
in order to look into your bug. While filing a bug please specify the
release version of Ubuntu you are using and the version of the package
you are reporting the bug against. You can find the version of the
package either through Help > About OpenOffice or through the command
apt-cache showpkg openoffice.org.

In addition please confirm whether you language setting is English and
not Czech in OpenOffice. To do this, open the word processor, go to
Tools > Options > Language Settings > Languages, where check "Default
languages for documents", and "Western" option, which should be set to
"English (USA)". You will also see a spell check symbol next to the
language. This means that this will be the language used for spell
check. Can you confirm that this is not Czech but English (USA). If it
was wrong, please change it to correct value and verify whether the
spell check works. Thanks in advance :)

I don't know what the long term solution is, but I do think I agree that
an option of continuing in the event of an md5sum mismatch would be
nice, esp. if this is likely to keep happening. It could even list the
expected md5sum, the actual md5sum, and a URL that would give more info
explaining the issue, and that page could probably be updated much more
quickly with updated checksums if adobe breaks things compared to
actually putting out the new packages.

Debian has added a dependency on guile 1.8 and has made changes to the
package which is worth noticing so ubuntu changes can be dropped.

Changelog since current intrepid version 3.0-1build1:

freetalk (3.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Update Standard-Version to 3.8.0 in debian/control

  * Fixed debian/rules to correctly handle config.sub and config.guess so they
are not included in the diff.gz
  * ./configure --enable-maintainer-mode

[Bug 256290] [NEW] spellcheck does not work in openoffice

2008-08-08 Thread wordsmyth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I have Ubtuntu set up on two computers and Spellcheck is not working in either
one. And curiously, when I go to the Tools/Options in Open Office Writer, I
find the language setting set to Czech(!) and I'm unable to change this. If I
set it for English and close the window, it's back to Czech when I re-open the
window. Something is very wrong here: a word processing program without a
spellcheck is damned useless ... and why is my language setting permanently
fixed on Czech???
Yours in frustration,

wordsmyth

P.S. What is especially puzzling is that spellcheck checked this
communication! Curious and curiousier (it just checked that word with a
red underline ...)...why doesn't it work in open office???

[Bug 164819] Re: Can't Remove Scrollkeeper without trashing Gnome

2008-08-08 Thread alistairi
Hallo, it's me again.

Eight months after I first registered this bug, I see the developers
haven't even yet decided on the importance of it.

Well to put my half-pennies worth in, I think this is of fundamental
importance.

Let's look at Stallmans four freedoms: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy
/free-sw.html

and in particular Freedom Number One: "The freedom to study how the
program works, and adapt it to your needs (freedom 1)."

Adapting it to my needs, in this case, involves removing it from cleanly
from my computer, which I can't do. Freedom involves having the software
running on my computer, which *I* decide, not you , not Ubuntu and not
the scrollkeeper developers.

I simply don't want something running on my computer which

"stores metadata specified by the http://www.ibiblio.org/osrt/omf/ (Open
Source Metadata Framework) as well as certain metadata extracted directly
from documents (such as the table of contents).

It provides various functionality pertaining to this metadata to help
browsers, such as sorting the registered documents or searching the
metadata for documents which satisfy a set of criteria."

@scrollkeeper_developers:

/tinfoilhaton

er ... that is *my* browser you're talking about there, isn't it? ...
isn't it???

/tinfoilhatoff

OK, I´m not just trying to be funny here, I really am interested in
finding out what the developers and other interested people think. To my
mind, by Stallman's definition, Scrollkeeper is *not* Free Software.

In fact this philosophy seems to be running throughout Ubuntu and
partially Debian and maybe other distributions too, it's not just
scrollkeeper.

[Bug 254344] Re: iwl4965 broken in backports-modules 2.6.24-20.21 ucode not loadiing

2008-08-08 Thread Tim Richardson
just to be clear, the kernel panics I see are in the 2.6.24.20.23
package version

the compatwireless upstream from http://intellinuxwireless.org/
is also giving the same problem (2007-07-30 and 2008-08-06 snapshots).
I didn't get much acknowledgement of this problem from compatwireless mailing
list, although someone else on 2.6.25 kernel from a different distribution has
the same problem.

Conclusion: Don't let this module go into hardy-updates. I suggest any
further testing is done on an Intel Centrino laptop before even putting
it into proposed. It breaks on suspend/hibernate and rmmod

[Bug 239560] Re: tomboy applet error can not add to panel when second login

2008-08-08 Thread Tim Richardson
It is forwarded here:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=547032

I don't know why you can't reproduce it. It is still happening in hardy. It
also happens in Debian sid.
The easiest way to reproduce it is to enable multiple logins for the same user,
then switch user and login to a second session. This way of reproducing it is
in the upstream report. Anyway, it's upstream now, plus I reported it to Debian.

[Bug 247376] Re: undefined symbols when trying to load fglrx

It's because Intrepid uses an x server version that hasn't been released

break drivers like fglrx.

If you use Ubuntu Hardy you won't have this problem.

[Bug 204578] Re: 2.6.24.12 won't boot with em28xx device

2008-08-08 Thread Alexey Vinogradov
I've compiled working em28xx myself for 2.6.24-20-eeepc by placing the
em28xx code inside LUM sources and recompiling the LUM.

I am going to publish this howto in a wiki.

However - it would be nice to be possible to compile this standalone
packet also.

[Bug 255220] Re: ATI RADEON 9250

2008-08-08 Thread eX
Thanks for your reply Jim, will try to further their own ..

2Timo

I am interested in your reaction Timo, if you would have come for a
russian forum and you would be told to speak only russians!? And I
overlapped for that-you could translate the entire nonsense that I wrote
here, if suddenly google somewhere not translated .. I do not spammer,
to solve their problems and go, I have nothing to do here, I did not
pack one interpretation has not seen an answer, so here I am probably
not for too long ..

Error nO eRrOr that that does not work all the possibilities video card, OpenGL
for example, no opportunity even set the correct screen, the display flickers
badly, open the page in the browser how many ton, etc. Many such small things
and they irritate .. I also play mostly in Counter-Strike and I would like to
have that opportunity and in linux (Wine is not something ).
And I honestly damn if that drivers are not supported with ATI in 2007, did not
have open-source license and GPL .. If I could write himself these drivers, it
has long done and distributed to needy, but such as I, not one and not two ..
But unfortunately do web applications (apache, mysql) .. :(

In my house where I live guys do not even know what linux and look at me
as an idiot when I tell them about this .. Video cards for many by the
way worse than I am, ATI 9200 for example, I now think that if they
decide to try linux .. Yes, not all the problems with buying a new video
card, but if you put all in a row, it will not share, because of 100% of
30-40% can not afford such luxuries as a purchase at all what either (or
even upgrade) ...

I know that the silly demand (request) from the system, support all
equipment that it did not obliged to do, but by itself prompts, which
system for people still .. While I know that the entire blame for
manufacturers who do not have enough brains to write drivers and under
linux.

Thanks for the clarification Sebastien and apologies if I came across
too strident. When 99% of your email is spam it's tough to do initial

[Bug 238549] Re: xen dom0 crashes with "BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 11s!"

2008-08-08 Thread Nick Ellery
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
does not yet have enough information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the
resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

Ok. How do we know that that is the problem?

[Bug 227886] Re: DVD writing takes more than an hour with any DVD, set to any speed in both Brasero and Gnomebaker

2008-08-08 Thread Madhusudan.C.S
Bah, Ubuntu is not slow as hell at least. I had reported this in the very first
week of my usage with Hardy Heron and at last the package name has been changed
now, when there is just 2 more months for the release of Intrepid. And to be
very frank the bug is not alone in brasero but in every CD/DVD writing utility
I tried like k3b and others. If the case mentioned above was for the DVD. CD
writing is also a pain. It takes around 30 minutes to write a 700 MiB CD at 52x
consuming full 100% CPU. So I think the bug is not in a specific package but a
common backend used by all the burning tools.

Things doesn't stop here. The problem also continues with the playing of
CD/DVD. I mean when I put already burnt CD/DVD into the tray, the moment it is
accessed the CPU usage raises to 100% hampering all other work happening on the
system. By any chance if I try to play the video in the DVD/CD if there exists
some such, I can see frame by frame of the video with a gap between each frame
anywhere in the range of 1 or 2 seconds.

I thought Ubuntu will fix this bug in 8.04.1 itself, but nothing has
been done. Looks like people are least interested in the bug. I don't
know why but it exists. I at least hope Intrepid will not have such
hopeless problems.

You were right. It seems that removing linux-backports-modules did
solve the kernel panic problems. For 3 days now my laptop did not panic
once. So far the only thing that seemed to be affected by the removal
of linux-backports-modules is that the wifi indicator stopped working.

[Bug 256274] [NEW] FTBFS: libdbus-1-dev Build-Depends needs updating

2008-08-08 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wpasupplicant

In Intrepid this package requires libdbus-glib-1-dev >= 0.76 to prevent
the build failure caused by /usr/bin/dbus-binding-tool reporting:

Making all in libnm-glib
make[3]: Entering directory
`/build/buildd/network-manager-0.7~~svn20080720t224551+eni1/libnm-glib'
dbus-binding-tool --prefix=nm_access_point --mode=glib-client

Unable to load "%s": Attribute "xmlns:tp" is invalid on element in this
context
make[3]: *** [nm-access-point-bindings.h] Error 1

Because Intrepid has libdbus-glib-1-dev >= 0.76 this isn't a problem,
but the build-depends ought still to be set correctly.

I discovered the issue when I backported the package to Gutsy. I added
the depend version to debian/control:

libdbus-1-dev (>=0.76),
