I can confirm this on Dapper I would say it all depends on what your configuration looks like. [Bug 234926] Re: logwatch missing conf files
Here is an excerpt from /usr/share/doc/logwatch/HOWTO-Customize- LogWatch.gz You can customize the output of logwatch by modifying variables in the /etc/logwatch/conf directory. Default values are specified in the /usr/share/logwatch/default.conf directory. Your distribution may have set additional defaults in the /usr/share/logwatch/dist.conf directory. All the variables available are declared in the files under these directories. You can change the default values to modify how or what is displayed with logwatch. One variable available to all services, and which by default is not specified, is the 'Detail' variable (note that it is not preceded by a '$' symbol). Specifying a Detail value will override the global Detail level, for that service only. There are two mechanisms for customizing the variables: 1. The /etc/logwatch/conf directory is first searched for files with the same name and relative location as the /usr/share/logwatch/default.conf directory. Variables declared in these files override the defaults. For example, if file /etc/logwatch/conf/services/sendmail.conf has the single entry: $sendmail_unknownusersthreshold = 5 then the threshold for unknown users is set to five instead of the default of one. All other parameters are not modified. and so on. [Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share
I also experience the ubuntu 8.04.1 inability to display shares from WindowsXp boxes , but it displays shares from CentOS 5.2 boxes just fine. On a parallel install (on another disk) of kubuntu 8.04.1 with Samba and all the other setting as identical as I can make them, the GUI browsing works in the KDU app Konquorer. HOWEVER to make this work I had to fix the /etc/hosts files. The new format DOES NOT WORK, even with smbtree or smbclient. It is necessary to add the NetBios name aliases to the 127.0.0.1 line, the entry on the 127.0.1.1 line is not seen or not understood. For example I use 127.0.0.1 localhost LIVING-ROOM LIVING-ROOM.MYGROUP 127.0.1.1 LIVING-ROOM.MYGROUP Back in the ubuntu 8.04.1 install, the GUI browsing fails, but smbclient or smbtree can report all the shares. I am using the default encrypted passwords and security = user. The gnome nautilus network file browser (ver 2.22.3) will show the computers with shares on the network, but clicking on a Windows machine icon does NOT show the shares. If I switch the nautilus Location dialog to text, and append a valid share name to the computer name, such as smb://laptop/C, then a full successful mount is made and I can see and use the shared files. Once mounted, if I unmount and try again to click on a Windows machine icon it still fails to mount. I think I have tried every possible combination of smb.conf auth entries (ntlmv2 auth = etc). Kris, does the issue go away if DRI is disabled in your xorg.conf? If so, could you then leave it enabled but try this setting? Section Device ... Option AGPMode 2 EndSection Also try values 1, 4, and 8 (4 is typically the default). [Bug 195051] Re: X freezes in drmCommandWrite() when Compiz is enabled on ATI Radeon Mobility 9600
Based on the description of the symptoms, it sounds like (at least for some reporters) this might be caused by an incorrect AGPMode setting, which is used when DRI is enabled. If you're seeing a hang, you should test if changing this makes the issue go away. In your /etc/X11/xorg.conf set AGPMode to various values like this: Section Device ... Option AGPMode 2 EndSection Possible values include 1, 2, 4, 8. You can see what it's currently set to by looking in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. It's worthwhile to test all four values even once you find one that works. If this takes care of it for you, we may be able to establish a quirk to set it for your hardware combo, if you can provide the following data: * AGPMode value(s) that work * Make/Model of laptop or motherboard * Output of lspci -vvnn * Is the system all factory hardware, or have any parts been replaced? * Is there an AGP Mode in the system BIOS? - If so, is it set to the factory default? [Bug 261098] Re: DoRxHighPower(): RF_ZEBRA, Upper Threshold: 99 LOWER Threshold: 70
Hi Leann, thanks for your detailed follow-up. This `printk(DoRxHighPower())` -issue looks like it's worse a SRU process, but IMO with a low priority as it does not really do any harm. I'm going to do some tests with the recent alpha today and check wifi and NetworkManager again, but my feeling one week ago was that there is something wrong with the connection, I somehow lost connection periodically and had bad signal strength compared to the hardy installation on the same machine. Re: [Bug 246053] Re: pm-utils doesn't detect uswsusp in hardy
hyperair [2008-09-04 0:50 -]: Another thing is that if this issue is left as it is, and users for whom uswsusp is broken upgrade to Intrepid, where there's a new version of pm-utils which correctly utilizes uswsusp, then it's going to get a whole lot of bug reports and/or complaints/negative blog/forum posts saying that Intrepid broke my hibernate! But imagine the bad press we would (rightfully) get if we broke *hardy* in the same way, a release which is supposed to be very stable and rock solid... [Bug 264598] [NEW] usplash -c spits out hundreds of CR's in terminal
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: usplash On Ubuntu 7.04, 2.6.20-17, generic 32bit kernel, running XFCE as the desktop environment, using xfce tools (ie. xfce terminal). When I'm logged in onto the desktop, using a xfce-terminal, and calling 'sudo usplash -c', it shows the usplash screen as it's supposed to do. When it finishes and returns to the desktop, in the terminal window, from which usplash was called, there are tons of carriage returns, ie. like if i were keep pressing enter during usplash. I see tons of empty lines, starting with the prompt. It happens a couple hundred times for sure, because i have 200 lines screen buffer and i can not scroll back to the original usplash command in the terminal. Once I did this from a tty too, and the same happened, but only once, i can not reproduce it anymore. But on the desktop it happens all the time. I didn't test it with other terminals either. Steps to reproduce: 1, log on on a 7.04-i32bit ubuntu, use xfce as the desktop environment 2, open a xfce-terminal 3, type: 'sudo uspalsh -c', enter 4, wait until the usplash disappears and returns to the desktop 5, you'll see hundreds of empty line in the terminal window. ** Affects: usplash (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: usplash On Ubuntu 7.04, 2.6.20-17, generic 32bit kernel, running XFCE as the desktop environment, using xfce tools (ie. xfce terminal). The relevant host specs are: Acer Aspire 2012wlmi Intel Pentium M 1.5 GHz Intel 855GME I have resolved the issue by installing a command-line only 2.6.24-19-generic kernel system and now everything works fine. I also found that when setting the guest OS vmware setting to something besides Linux-Ubuntu or Linux-Other 2.6.x kernel, the system would boot properly. ie - when creating a guest machine, I set it to Other-Other and the system would boot and run correclty, but performance was terrible. The host OS was installed from the network using the livecd instructions from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/LocalNet#A%20variation:%20Booting%20the%20%22Live%20CD%22%20image So, to reiterate, the system runs fine with 2.6.24-19-generic kernel installed from netboot hardy images on server cd with command-line only packages and any vmware guest settings. -- vmware-server crashes during guest ubuntu install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 137978] Re: Wine causes process hang in kernel when running applications from FAT partition
SRU Justification: Impact: Running wine applications from a FAT filesystem causes the wine process to get stuck in a kernel D state and cannot be killed. This prevents a user from unmounting the FAT filesystem. Fix: Replace a typo in fat_ioctl_readdir() introduced during CVE-2007-2878, where the second semaphore down() should in fact be an up(). Testcase: Without the patch one can trip the bug by: 1. Mount any FAT filesystem 2. Copy some file.exe file to it. 3. Run: wine /media/fattest/file.exe 4. Wine hangs and cannot be killed. With the patch, this works. This has been tested by Lei Zhang (message 12 above) and by myself (message 11). ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Fix Committed -- Wine causes process hang in kernel when running applications from FAT partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137978 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 264142] Re: Thunderbird will not display emails any more!
Since I submitted this bug report, I have managed to get my copy of Thunderbird working again. In the screenshot, you can just see that the left-hand border looks a bit wider than the right-hand border. There is normally a narrow vertical bar that separates the list of folders, on the left, and the list of emails, on the right. This bar had moved to the extreme left of the main window, and had merged with the border of the window. I was able to use my mouse to separate the vertical bar from the border of the window. I was then able to move it to where it should be, so that the list of folders appeared on its left, and the list of emails appeared on its right. I think this problem was initially caused by a fault in my mouse, or in software that controls my mouse. This is not under the control of Thunderbird developers. Perhaps this sort of problem, with the vertical bar disappearing and with no visible way to get it back, could be prevented. There could be a minimum gap of 20 pixels between the vertical bar and the left-hand border. Or possibly there could be an item in the View menu to restore the view to normal. -- Thunderbird will not display emails any more! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264142 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
