[Bug 256767] Re: unable to enumerate USB device on port 5
[quote=reh4c,22]Just did a live boot of Intrepid 8.10 RC and did not see the enumerate error. About 2 weeks ago, I swapped out my RAM based on strange errors during the installation process (for both Mandriva and Ubuntu testing). Other errors have ceased after swapping RAM...could the USB enumeration error have been solved by swapping RAM sticks as well??? If so, then my bug comments may be invalid.[/quote] Hi reh4c, how did you swapped your RAM. I want to try it too check if the error will be solved. [Bug 289282] Re: Enabling dual monitors lowers screen resolution on main monitor, 2 monitors always assumed when X starts
** Summary changed: - Using dual monitors once results in permanently lowered screen resolution on main monitor + Enabling dual monitors lowers screen resolution on main monitor, 2 monitors always assumed when X starts ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg I was delighted to see when I upgraded to Hardy to Intrepid that (after enabling some setting using my password) I was able to have a dual- headed system using my Intel graphics card. However, with the external monitor plugged in (it was displayed at full - resolution, the maximum resolution on my laptop screen was 1024x768 (as + resolution), the maximum resolution on my laptop screen was 1024x768 (as opposed to its 1200x800 native resolution). I assumed this was the maximum my graphics card supported with 2 monitors, but when I unplugged the external monitor and re-detected the displays (using gnome-display- properties, since the hotkey no longer works under Intrepid), then logged out, pressed Ctrl-Alt-Bckspc, then logged back in again, the resolution stayed at this lower resolution. I have still not managed to get the full resolution back. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 (upgraded today), xserver-xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu3. + + Update: enabling dual monitors led not only to lower resolution on the + main monitor but to X assuming 2 monitors and not detecting displays + every time I start X. There is always an invisible monitor off to the + right where many windows appear, until I open gnome-display-properties + and click "Detect Displays". -- Enabling dual monitors lowers screen resolution on main monitor, 2 monitors always assumed when X starts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289282 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 289386] [NEW] No window decorations with compiz in Intrepid
Public bug reported: I have an ATI video card, so until a few days ago I used an open source X driver which would not let me run compiz. [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
Today Ubuntu has reached a stage where it can successfully replace windows in home as well as office desktops. Actually many people are now switching to ubuntu or are now ready to give it a try. As known to linux community, many hardware vendors have kept their hardware closed source. As a result the open source community has been unable to provide adequate support for the hardware. usually the hardware we buy has a logo 'certified for windows vista', and similarly for xp.people never know whether it is open or closed hardware or how well the hardware is supported under ubuntu. i know that there are websites which contain a list of hardware supported under ubuntu. it would be nice to have a tool for windows which could gather the data about the hardware connected to pc (similar to hardware testing in ubuntu). Based on the data it should generate a friendly report about the current status of support for the available hardware, specially graphics card or wireless card.It would help to prevent any post installation blues. An additional feature which could suggest the linux counterparts of installed windows applications would be a killer addition. It would go a long way in helping average user to switvh to ubuntu! [Bug 289282] Re: Using dual monitors once results in permanently lowered screen resolution on main monitor
Sorry for the barrage of posts, but I'm just figuring out what's going on. Ever since activating the dual monitor function (that is, whatever it was in the "gnome-display-properties" that required me to enter my password--I don't remember what exactly this was), X always starts up with the assumption that I'm using 2 monitors. The reason why things show up on some inaccessible workspace is that they are appearing on the non-existent external monitor. I've discovered that if I can guess where the window is on the imagined external monitor, I can drag it onto the actual screen. So for some reason, X is not detecting displays on startup but is instead assuming them. As soon as I can detect the displays through gnome-display-properties, it correctly detects that I'm only using one monitor. (Although, as I mentioned, it can no longer correctly guess the monitor's maximum resolution, which it could do before I set up dual monitors.) -- Using dual monitors once results in permanently lowered screen resolution on main monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289282 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 289377] [NEW] segfault
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 I know this is a crash in flash-nonfree and I know that it's a closed source application, etc., etc. But I think you cannot disagree that having a working flash on a Linux desktop is a pretty common and important requirement. There is (unfortunately) a lot of flash content out there on the net and crashing every time a website with flash is loaded is a really quick way to turn users off and push them back to windows. My hope is that you have a team that is working with the flash authors to work these issues out. It would be a pity if you are not. [Bug 248576] Re: keyboard layout changes before key is released
When I filed this bug report, I though that "Keyboard Indicator" had something to do with my problem. I've been able to trace the source of the problem to some extend, going from the "Keyboard Indicator" to "Gnome Keyboard Properties" and then gconf (through xkb_layouts_set_selected_list, in Gnome Keyboard Properties). "/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd", in gconf, is the nearest I've gotten to the solution of my problem. I just need to figure out what application (a daemon, I'm pretty sure) controls the keyboard layout switching. Is it Xorg? I'll update to 8.10 soon. Then, if this hasn't been corrected yet, I'll keep digging ;) I've attached /var/log/Xorg.0.log (I'm not sure I get the "a *new* /var/log/Xor.0.log"; I hadn't attached a log for this bug report yet...) and the output of "lspci -vvnn". [Bug 114505] Re: ntp brought up before network is ready; fails not resolve any ip or host names; ntp does not recover
I just finished a fresh U8.10-rc install. Plain vanilla, all I added was the NTP package. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l /etc/rc5.d/S2[38]* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Oct 26 14:18 /etc/rc5.d/S23ntp -> ../init.d/ntp lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 Oct 26 10:10 /etc/rc5.d/S28NetworkManager -> ../init.d/NetworkManager NTP starts before Network Manager, meaning that NTP won't have DNS available at startup. It tends to work, but moving NTP's startup after Network Managers should make it more reliable. It will also allow NTPDATE to run (it's called from the ip-up scripts, but will fail as NTPD will already own the socket). [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ grep ntp-server /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ NTP servers still aren't requested by default.
