But now that digikam-kde4 is gone from the repository, this bug report

[Bug 259278] Re: knetworkmanager will no longer connect

2008-11-03 Thread jacoor
@trylik
Thanks for your answer - I tried everything with old version of NM (restarting
HAL, clearing config files, restarting networking)
and.. The only thing that worked from time to time was right key on tray icon,
disable wireless, wait a minute, enable and try to connect.
I think I will watch this topic and for now I stay with wicd - works just fine.

Thanks again for posting.

[Bug 282387] Re: scrollwheel emulation breaks after suspend with 2.6.27-7

2008-11-03 Thread Aurimas Fischer
Now works for me too!

I was building a deb package with pdebuild and found out that
debian/patches/100_dont_check_abi.patch + Niklas' patch caused scrollwheel
emulation to only work in Up direction.

If I disable this patch and use Niklas Vanhainen' patch I get a deb
package that fixes this problem.

Thanks.

The bug only occurs with visual effects turned on (either "normal" or

fails to reproduce the bug, perhaps there's some conflict with my
particular 3d drivers. However, chess is the only program I've noticed
to have any problems.

[Bug 293485] [NEW] no working driver, problem with hal

2008-11-03 Thread Agostini Sylvain
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-penmount

Ok it is again me who report this bug. As i said I am not developper, in fact
I am starting with python, but to debug the touchscreen is out of my reach.
Anyway here is my report
After a fresh install of intrepid mobile edition the touchscreen work out of
the box but not calibrated and using a mouse driver. Also the penmount driver
is not installed by default. Here is what I did :
install xserver-xorg-input-penmount create a fdi file to say hal to use the
driver :

penmount

It work it used the good driver but when you touch the screen the mouse jumps
everywhere (I heard that before no? when mouse driver and penmount where messed
up).

Try the penmount website driver and launch gCalib : big X crash had to
reinstall the driver from repository.

And once more : the driver from repository does not include calibration
tool. A possible workaround : pass all the parameters that were in xorg
to hal by using the fdi file.

Hi Krazy

I haven't tried Intrepid yet - this laptop is getting a bit unreliable
(failing to boot or unexpected shutdowns, no apparent cause except age !)
I don't want to do anything which might destabilise it, so it's still
running Hardy. I'm happy to hear the firmware loading problem is fixed
in Intrepid, and thanks for checking back with me.

[Bug 244353] Re: OpenOffice exports PDF with arabic numerals instead of regular numbers

2008-11-03 Thread Scott Thatcher
Sorry if more information isn't needed. I've seen this bug, too--the
version where strange numerals appear in English files that contain
formulas. Easily reproducible using the numbers.odt file available on
the openoffice bug page. This is in 64-bit Intrepid and Hardy. However,
I can verify that the bug did not seem to be present when I installed
OOO300m9 in Hardy from the .deb available on the openoffice.org site.

Unchecking the various PDF options in the export dialog didn't change
the behavior of the bug for me.

As someone who creates lots of PDF's from files with formulas, I'll say
thanks in advance for your work on this!

[Bug 280625] Re: Evolution and Firefox uses the PC speaker for alerts

2008-11-03 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Sorry to have misspelled your name Alexander. I have updated the bug
summary so I hope it is more clear now.

** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce :
  1) Let Evolution open in the background
  2) Receive an e-mail

  Expected result :
- 1) The sound defined in System/Preferences/sounds is played (In Intrepid,
this sound doesn't seem to exist, that might trigger this bug) or no sound is
played
+ 1) The sound defined for new e-mails in System/Preferences/sounds is played

  Actual result :
- 1) An alert from the PC speaker is heard (PC speaker sound by default in a
2008 modern desktop for incomming mail is really lame)
+ 1) An alert from the PC speaker is heard (PC speaker sound by default in a
2008 modern desktop for incoming mail is really lame)
+
+ Workaround :
+ If you uncheck "Enable alert sound", the PC speaker is not heard anymore, but
neither is the defined sound.
+ => I don't know why new e-mails trigger "Alert" instead of "New e-mail"
+ => I don't know why in this case the defined Alert sound is not played
instead of using the PC speaker

If a package doesn't depend on standard libs /or/ unstripped libs (e.g.

Please report it against this package in Ubuntu, thanks.

[Bug 148036] Re: Pushing backspace deletes links in places accidently

2008-11-03 Thread Lachlan Stuart
This bug also affects me. It is a problem in Intrepid.
This isn't an "unstable" bug, it is actually a usability flaw because it
results in a user interaction (click link to navigate, then press backspace
intending to go up a directory) leading to an unintuitive result (deleting the
Places bookmark).

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open a Nautilus File Browser window from a standard install of Ubuntu 8.10
Desktop Edition. Ensure the Side Pane is showing(use F9 or View->Side Pane) and
it is set to show Places in the Side Pane's drop-down. Also ensure that you
have some bookmarks. These should show in the lower section of the Places panel.
2) Click on one of your bookmarks in the Places bar
3) Press backspace. At this point, the bookmark will be deleted, however the
expected action would be that the main pane(file browser) would navigate up a
directory.

I suggest 2 possible fixes:
1) Return the focus to the file browser pane after any mouse-based interaction
with any of the Places applet. This means that one can quickly change between
clicking in the Places pane and using keyboard based navigation in the main
window. I specify "mouse-based interaction" as it should still be possible to
tab to the side pane and interact with it with the keyboard. IMO, this is the
best solution as it both simplifies interaction (reducing cognitive load by
removing the "focus is in the places pane" hidden state) and optimizes it
(reducing need to return to the file-browser pane).
2) Remove the Backspace keyboard shortcut for deleting entries in the Places
panel and allow the rest of the window to handle it, similar to how the Tree
and History panels handle backspace keystrokes. I can't see why this shortcut
is even in the Places pane's code when it isn't used anywhere else in Nautilus.

[Bug 279307] Re: grub fails to boot on computers having a 28-bit lba and an hard disk larger than 128 GB

2008-11-03 Thread Bryan Quigley
I tried grub2 and grub1 couldn't boot to it (figures). Since, the
machine was basically going to be reinstalled anyway I put grub2 on the
mbr and reinstalled the latest kernels. It now works, so grub2 *might*
have this fixed (or maybe I did something else). +1 for grub2 in
jaunty.

[Bug 293211] Re: Ububtu 8.10 does not play sound with default kernel

2008-11-03 Thread Randal Leavitt
GRUB lists 2.6.25-2-386 and several versions of the 2.6.24 kernel. I
guess these are left here as a consequence of updates made previously in
8.04. I dont have a version of the 2.6.27 kernel that I can boot. The
attempt to upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 did not run cleanly, leaving me with
one broken package "totem-common" and another package that does not seem
to be complete "gnome_icon_theme". I guess I did not get the correct
kernel either - I did not see any error messages about that, however.

[Bug 285540] Re: Missing aac encoding and xvid support

Install the packages libavcodec-unstripped-51, libavdevice-

libpostproc-unstripped-51, and libswscale-unstripped-0 -- or at least
whichever of those you have the regular version installed currently.
Intuitive, no?

Unfortunately, some packages depend on the regular versions.

Should these unstripped versions perhaps have a Provides: of the regular
versions?

[Bug 292496] Re: Epiphany does not appear in Preferred Applications dialogue for Web Browser

What exactly do you mean by repeatable? Certainly each time I open up
'Preferred Applications', Epiphany is not listed in the Web Browsers
combobox. I can't say for sure if this same error would occur were I to
reinstall Intrepid, since I'd like to avoid doing that.

The steps that I took that brought about this bug are:

 * Install Epiphany
 * Try to set it to the preferred web browser.

This was with a clean install of intrepid.

have tried to disable kacpid by editing the menu.lst file, and that
works, however, i then lose one of my CPUs (running a p4 3.0ghz prescott

further research shows that disabling kacpid is not the answer for
obvious reasons.

[Bug 256621] Re: [CVE-2008-3459] OpenVPN vulnerability allows arbitrary command execution via crafted configuration

2008-11-03 Thread didier
Hi,

In my understanding it only removes abilities to set remotely the route
*software* (/sbin/route , whatever).
Something that:
- I can't find a case why you may want to do such thing.
- Is an undocumented feature.

I haven't tested it but from quickly reading the code you still can
remotely change route after applying the patch.

Didier

Sadly, but there are problems with XAA engine also.
Screen is flickering and once a while I've got Buffer underun on pipe A, the
same problem we had in past (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218334).

Actually, it looks like Intel integrated graphics driver for X is broken
most of the time :-(

[Bug 290326] Re: NetworkManager hangs system after select mobile broadband

2008-11-03 Thread Mike Holland
I was able to repeat this using the same phone on a totally different laptop
running 8.10beta (not updated).
Again, the OS is crashed/hung. Different phone on same laptop was OK.

I tested with an old SonyEricsson, and it worked OK, but
- NM showed duplicate menu items - two identical choices for GSM modem.
- does not add default route if I already have a wifi LAN connection. (I think
it should.)

The Nokia 6120c is a very popular 3G symbian phone.
Also, my E220 USB 3G modem is not detected by NM on the updated laptop,
though it did work with 8.10beta. The kernel etc. detects it correctly.

[Bug 293465] [NEW] make ext4 as the primary filesystem for GNU/Linux

2008-11-03 Thread Shirish Agarwal

Binary package hint: grub

Please look at http://www.heise-online.co.uk/news/Kernel-Log-Ext4

I'm looking at ext4 as my primary filesystem. Let's see how and when we
can have that in Ubuntu. I know for it to happen we need the kernel
2.6.28 (as and when that comes out), a new version of e2fsprogs as well
as grub.

I hope other people link it to the other progs as well.

[Bug 123362] Re: RADEON with [Radeon X300 (PCIE)] RV370

2008-11-03 Thread MiguelETorres
This is so frustrating, same issue here, but on intrepid ibex.

Every single verison of ubuntu I've have tried (6.10 fordward) has this
bug... and some months later they fix it.. and in the new version the
bug remains.

And now there are a lot of web post saying that this ATI cards are
actually being blacklisted.

Can somebody really help us??

do we better get a new video card (maybe NVIDIA ??)... or maybe a new
working linux distro? (somebody knows one that doesn't has this bug?)

Yes, please fix this bug. Working with encrypted devices in Intrepid is
currently no pleasure.

[Bug 291891] Re: Ps3videomode error on Ubuntu 8.10

2008-11-03 Thread ComedyInK
Yea, I just found that out, it's odd though because on 7.10 I did not
have to put 'sudo' but now in front of almost every command, I have to
put sudo in.

sudo ps3videomode -(Option(s))

I put video=ps3fb:mode:131' in my Kboot.conf file, and it does not seem
to work when i boot back up, but that is an other topic.

This bug is solved, thanks for the help.
