[Bug 105195] Re: kvm can not run Windows XP

2008-11-06 Thread B
I too am getting this error in Intrepid. I used virt-manager to
create/install the Windows XP guest image. First time it tried to boot
it wouldn't work. I tried it from the command line with kvm, and I get
exception 13 with a dump of #s. If I try it with the -no-kvm switch,
the window appears and tries to boot, but gives "A disk read error
occurred."

[Bug 149693] Re: Wireless keyboard doesn't work after suspend

2008-11-06 Thread Timbba
Oh, I have forgotten this bug.

The problem was on my case in the motherboard jumpers. I had to enable
usb wakeup (change jumper USBPWXX from +5V to +5VSB) , then it works.

So this can be closed, sorry for late notification.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
The ubuntu delta was created for intrpeid for the

[Bug 238157] Re: mt-daapd - wrong permissions crash program

2008-11-06 Thread Bryan Quigley
I can reproduce this. However, I don't believe this is a bug.

mt-daapd needs access to this file by it's design, I'm not sure if you
changed the file on purpose or not,

but the default songs3.db should (and does on my system) have the following
file permissions:
-rw-r--r-- 1 mt-daapd nogroup 12288 2008-11-07 02:29 songs3.db

You can change it to this by navigating to the directory and then running:

For me personally the solution with the script starting with 09_rtl817...
didn't work quite. Suspend worked out but on resume the process of waking up
the computer just blocked and I had to shut it down using the power button.
After trying the same script starting with 11_rtl8187... it was all fine and
the resume now completes successfully every time.
I also removed the 5 sec sleep and it was all right with my laptop toshiba a210

Thanks for the workaround, Hélio!

Sorry, the update was stuck in the NEW queue. I processed it now, it
should be available at archive.ubuntu.com in about 1.5 hours, and
within a day on the mirrors.

You need to test linux-image-2.6.27-8-generic (or -server). Beware
that this doesn't yet have linux-restricted-modules or

2008-11-06 Thread WEITS
Well now I find the solution.
The problem only occur when KDE is set to Czech language.
When set to English, font selectors work without any problem.

Workaround to change font in Czech version of KDE:
1. change KDE language to English
2. close and open systemsettings again
3. change font
4. change language back to Czech

Confirming bug on amd64, Ubuntu 8.04 Server - 64 bit, Firefox3.0.3 as
updated by Ubuntu. Functionality does work on IE6 on XP. Seems MS does
not test on common browsers.

Additional info:
When logging in to Hotmail, Hotmail warns that the browser version is not
supported. It wants me to "upgrade" to, for example, Firefox (sic!). ==> Maybe
MS is disabling functionality for browsers reporting their version as something
MS have decided they do not support?

[Bug 295027] [NEW] libmysql5.0-cil Version 5.2.1 dfsg+1 critical error

2008-11-06 Thread Antevirus!

Package:
libmysql5.0-cil (5.2.1 dfsg+1)

I am running Ubuntu Desktop 8.10, fully updated.

Unable to connect to MySQL with C#/Mono. Opening the connection causes
the program to crash.

The exact same error is described here:
http://groups.google.se/group/linux.debian.bugs.dist/browse_thread/thread/dd59ce4857beb062?pli=1

And the Debian crew built a dfsg+2 with a fix. Installing this manually
solved the problem for me.

This is a rather critical error since it renders the package completely
useless.

[Bug 261380] Re: Packages have invalid .gnu_debuglink

2008-11-06 Thread Martin von Gagern
It isn't necessary to update to Jaunty just to check this. It would be
enough to get a library package unpacked so you can objdump it, and to
compare the file name mentioned there with those from the dbg package
file list. "dbg -x" would do the former, while the latter might be
possible without even downloading the package itself.

Unfortunately it looks like the 1ubuntu1 build is too brand new. The
links to the binary packages on the page you referred to lead to
launchpad error pages, and packages.ubuntu.com is still taking about
version 0ubuntu1. So if you can lay your hand on these packages, you
might try this out, but I didn't manage to yet.

[Bug 155116] Re: Graphics glitches coming out of suspend with Radeon 9700

2008-11-06 Thread Justin Husted
This is kind of dumb, but I think the reason it seemed like the graphics
glitches were gone with 8.10 is because the basic
problem here is that video memory is not being refreshed during sleep. RAM
state will generally degrade over time, reaching a random state after a minute
or so (but not instantly). So of course, when I was regressing this bug, I
slept the laptop for short periods of time, keeping the ram in a
closer-to-correct state.

It's pretty clear that video textures just have to be reloaded on
resume. The graphics glitches are all compiz-related, and look like 3d
texture corruption.

Yes of course, and it works, but as you see in the title this is a
problem related with ATI (fglrx) and applications (3D, videoplayers...)
with compiz "Enabled".

Today most of us can not live without the normal compiz effects enabled.

They are very useful to switch between applications and desktops and
have more productivity.

I have an alternate solution;

I installed Firefox 3.1 beta 2 [pre] (I imagine any other Firefox
version might work). I ran Firefox once under the alternate version, and
the new version started in an un-maximized state. I quit the alternate
version.

After starting my target version again (3.0 in my case), Firefox starts
in my desired un-maximized state.

[Bug 153727] Re: Ethernet device's number increases by one after every reboot

2008-11-06 Thread Jay512
I never had this problem until I installed 8.10 Intrepid I386. Previous
OS was Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy X86_64 and from day one the Ethernet and
Wireless worked. I didn't do an upgrade. I had a spare hard drive lying
around so I figured that I would try the new Ubuntu before I fully
commit to it. **I haven't installed the drivers for the wireless card
yet.**

My network controllers are as told from lspci:

Wireless:
Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)

Wired **the one I'm having problems with**:
nVidia Corporation MCP61 Ethernet (rev a2)

Wired was always eth0 and wireless was eth1 on my Gutsy install. I still
have the Gutsy install on the other hard drive so if you want me to get
information from it to help solve this just let me know. I'm still new
to the Linux OS (almost a year), so if you tell me to get certain info
from my 7.10 install be exact and list the command.

[Bug 277624] Re: 8.10beta installer video issues

Hello,

updating my 8.04.1 the other day messed up completely my setting. It now
only runs in reduced graphics mode, and the keyboard is also messed up
(US Keyboard layout instead of the one that I had in my xorg.conf).

Does this have anything to do with the dropped nVidia auto-config
support? and the fact that xorg.conf no longer exist in 8.10?

[Bug 295020] [NEW] Launching pipe coprocess causes zombies after some time

2008-11-06 Thread Serge Maslov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pdns-backend-pipe

I tried to test pipe-backend for dynamic resolution of some records with sample
perl-script offered in documentation
(http://downloads.powerdns.com/documentation/html/backends-detail.html#PIPEBACKEND-PROTOCOL).
But after some time (usually 10-20 seconds), some perl processes state changed
to zombie.
Solution was found in powerdns trac
(http://wiki.powerdns.com/cgi-bin/trac.fcgi/changeset/1064).
Please add attached patch into the pdns source package.

[Bug 294546] Re: urlclassifier.sqlite.virus

2008-11-06 Thread Marlon Cisternas Milla
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

available modes all had resolutions of 1x1, but I can't reproduce that

[Bug 295014] [NEW] Highlights in a word document (.doc) saved in openoffice writer cannot be removed using MS Word

2008-11-06 Thread Robert Hutton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-core

Ubuntu release: 8.10 (intrepid ibex)

Package version: 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2

Expected behaviour: Highlights added to an OO.org Writer document which
is saved as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) should be removable using
Microsoft Word.

What happened instead: Highlights added to a document which is saved as
Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) cannot be removed using Microsoft Word.

Steps to replicate the bug:

1. create a new document in OO.org Writer
2. Add some text
3. Select some text
4. Use the Highlighting tool to add a highlight to the selected text
5. Save the document as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)
6. Open the saved document in Microsoft Word (tested versions: Word 2000
version 9.0.2720 and Word 2003 SP3 version 11.8227.8221)
7. Select the highlighted text
8. Use the Highlight tool to choose "None" as the highlight
9. The highlight on the text remains

Note: it is possible to choose a different highlight colour, but not
possible to remove the original highlight.

[Bug 295015] [NEW] pulseaudio doesn't notice removal of USB audio device

2008-11-06 Thread epv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Release: Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid on x86, Thinkpad T43p laptop.
pulseaudio version: 0.9.10-2ubuntu9

When a USB audio box (M-Audio Audiophile USB) is inserted, pulseaudio HAL
module correctly notices it and adds it. It gets named "front:1", shows up in
pavucontrol, I can send or move audio streams to it, etc. When the USB device
is removed (regardless of whether any streams or clients are connected to the
server) it isn't removed; it remains visible in pavucontrol, you can still
assign streams to it. If you reattach the USB device, a new instance is
detected and probed,
and also named "front:1". I can remove and reattach it over and over, and
accumulate many "front:1" instances.

This isn't happening from the point of view of ALSA - /proc/asound/cards
lists only one instance when the device is attached, and none when it
isn't.

Nope, file a new bug. :-)

If you suspect it might be a dupe of another bug, mention that bug ID,
and someone else can review and make the decision about duping it.
Duping bugs is cheap and easy. Untangling two unrelated bugs in a bug
report is hard.

In general, when we troubleshoot bugs we usually only consider the
original reporter. If you "me-too" your report onto someone else's,
your issue probably won't be investigated.

Also please note you're not having an "overflow error". That error
message is just a side effect. You are having an "X lockup", and that
is the issue that has to be troubleshot.

So yeah, file a new bug. One bug report per issue, one bug report per
person. That's easiest for us. :-)

[Bug 99740] Re: Firefox problems with desktop-effects

2008-11-06 Thread glass.dimly
OK,

This fixed it for me. I'm sure there are millions of ways to fix this.
All I did was resize the "minimized" Firefox window.

Turn on "Expo" under compiz settings. When you see Firefox all messed
up, Hit "Special Windows Key" and "e" to see Expo effect. Drag the
offending window downwards. Double click to return to normal view.
Resize Firefox to something small. Now maximize it. Now the problem
is gone.

[Bug 185193] Re: Provide rt2870 (USB) wireless drivers

AFAIK they work on the 25xx series devices and not on the 28xx series.

This seems very reasonable. In fact, it might be worthwhile to not
automatically check for new plugins at all, and require the user to hit

[Bug 255651] Re: floppy disk drive not detected (module not loaded) in Intrepid Alpha 4 kernel 2.6.27-2

2008-11-06 Thread alienexplorers
I am confirming that adding the module floppy to /etc/modules works for
me in Ubuntu 8.10 final. Added it and then modified the fstab file to
auto mount floppy if a disk was present. Rebooted system and upon
reload the floppy loaded itself.

Guess you're on your own in that case. Maybe talk to the GNOME guys.
You can always just add it manually to xorg.conf.
