[Bug 300615] [NEW] package mysql-server-5.0 None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/mysql-server-5.0.list] failed to install/upgrade: subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2008-11-21 Thread Lars Klaeboe
Public bug reported:

sudo apt-get install mysql-server failed with the message:

  package mysql-server-5.0 None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/mysql-
server-5.0.list] failed to install/upgrade: subprocess pre-installation
script returned error exit status 1

Did a sudo apt-get remove mysql-server (it took some other mysql related
packages with it) and then reinstalled mysql-server + the other mysql
related packages, and everything worked.

[Bug 299866] Re: package tomcat6-admin 6.0.18-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso post-installation script devolvi? el c?digo de salida de error 255

2008-11-21 Thread Thierry Carrez
The problem seems to come from here:

20-nov-2008 16:35:26 org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Protocol pause
INFO: Pausing Coyote HTTP/1.1 on http-8080
20-nov-2008 16:38:35 org.apache.catalina.connector.Connector pause
SEVERE: Protocol handler pause failed
java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out

I can't reproduce this. Running the same command I get a Catalina service
stopped message one second after the Pausing Coyote one.
Reading the logs, the problem seems to be that the Stop handler can't connect
locally to port 8009...

Could you check the following:
- do you have an existing configuration in /etc/tomcat6 before installation ?
- is there anything else running on the server, prior to tomcat6 installation,
that uses tcp port 8009 or 8080 ?
- is there anything preventing local connections to port 8009 ?
- install tomcat6 only (without tomcat6-admin), that should succeed. Then give
me the output of sudo netstat -nlp
- After having installed tomcat6 only, try to run sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6
stop and report success/failure
Thanks in advance

Here I go...

- I don't have an existing /etc/tomcat6 before installation (directory
/etc/tomcat6 does not exist before installation).
- There's nothing listening to ports 8009 or 8080 prior to tomcat6
installation. sudo netstat -ntupl follows:

OK, I found that:
http://www.ngasi.com/ngasihelp/ngasiuserguide/index.html?tomcat_fails_shutdown_complete.htm

And indeed, I can reproduce the exact same problem if I set my hostname to an

Could you double-check that your /etc/hosts is 100% correct ? In doubt could

[Bug 300691] [NEW] tomcat6-instance-create should allow to specify ports

2008-11-21 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat6

tomcat6-instance-create (from tomcat6-user package) creates a private
instance of Tomcat that runs an HTTP listener on port 8080 and an AJP on
port 8009. This results in picking up (most of the time) ports that are
already taken (by another private instance for example). This can be
improved by:

- allowing to specify another HTTP port and/or AJP port as part of
tomcat6-instance-create command line
- maybe not opening an AJP port by default
- maybe checking if the port chosen is/are already in use

[Bug 279980] Re: php5 using bundled tzdata in hardy?

2008-11-21 Thread Chuck Short
So I did.

Ive added it to the version that is going into proposed.

php ships its own tzdata file, however this is not regularily in Ubuntu.
I have added the patch and debian/rules change which uses the system
timezone data. I dont expect to be any regressions with this since we
are using this in intrepid already.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Run the script that jeff attached.

I have attached the debdiff that fixes this issue. If you have any
questions please let me know.

Regards
chuck

[Bug 300699] [NEW] Provide APR based Apache Tomcat Native library

2008-11-21 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat6

Starting Tomcat 6 results in the following INFO message in the logs:
APR based Apache Tomcat Native library which allows optimal performance in
production environments was not found...

According to http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/apr.html :
Tomcat can use the Apache Portable Runtime to provide superior scalability,
performance, and better integration with native server technologies. [...] When
APR is enabled, the HTTP connector will use sendfile for hadling large static
files (all such files will be sent ansychronously using high performance kernel
level calls), and will use a socket poller for keepalive, increasing
scalability of the server. [...] The HTTPS connector will use a socket poller
for keepalive, increasing scalability of the server. It also uses OpenSSL,
which may be more optimized than JSSE depending on the processor being used,
and can be complemented with many commercial accelerator components. [...] The
AJP connector will use a socket poller for keepalive, increasing scalability of
the server. As AJP is designed around a pool of persistent (or almost
persistent) connections, this will reduce significantly the amount of
processing threads needed by Tomcat.

All that seems good to have.

[Bug 300660] Re: nagios3-common package should not have configuration files named as *-nagios2.cfg

2008-11-21 Thread Mark Foster
I respectfully disagree.

IMO they should not have nagios3 or nagios2 in the path names at all,
instead...
/etc/nagios/conf.d/contacts.cfg
/etc/nagios/conf.d/extinfo.cfg

This matches up with the paths from nagios-plugins and is the better
approach.

Nobody is going to feasibly run nagios2 nagios3 on the same host, and
the nagios-plugins are not using those (version-specific) paths
either... so you end up with a mix of /etc/nagios /etc/nagios3 what
sense does that make?

Please go back to using /etc/nagios/ as the configuration base.

[Bug 227229] Re: LDAP and AD connection problem with hardy

2008-11-21 Thread slithy
I have encountered this bug as well.

First I ran into this bug on Hardy, which I built libnss-ldap from
source to solve it. Now I'm facing the same problem on Intrepid, so it
seems like something is up.

Looking at kunzol's fix, I am mapping the msSFU30GidNumber to gid as
well and making a filter for the groups worked on Intrepid, but not
Hardy.

[Bug 136836] Re: Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy]

2008-11-21 Thread Andreas Petlund
After looking into the problem, I'm convinced that my problem (with the
P5N32-SLI Premium mobo), is caused by a buggy BIOS. I also have the same
PCI bridge and NIC on another Asus motherboard, where it works
flawlessly (for small and large data transfers). I have submitted a
kernel patch where msi is turned off as default for the P5N32-SLI
Premium. The difference in behaviour suggests that the issue of theP5N-
MX mobo is different from the P5N32-SLI Premium issue. Sadly, I cannot
try to test and debug it since I don't have it. My advice is to submit
this issue as a new bug.

They are clogged, yes. I bumped the build score of ppp, should be

[Bug 236247] Re: HUAWEI ETS1000 CDMA modem doesn't work anymore in 8.04

2008-11-21 Thread stomarti
Here it was important to have a new line after SUBSYSTEM==usb_device
ACTION==add in the udev rule.

/etc/udev/rules.d/026_ti_usb_3410.rules should look like:

SUBSYSTEM==usb_device ACTION==add
SYSFS{idVendor}==0451,SYSFS{idProduct}==3410 \
SYSFS{bNumConfigurations}==2 \
SYSFS{bConfigurationValue}==1 \
RUN+=/bin/sh -c 'echo 2 /sys%p/device/bConfigurationValue'

not like:

[Bug 300622] [NEW] [Intrepid] Battery not noticed by ubuntu

2008-11-21 Thread Johan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I've got a HP EliteBook 8730w:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/321957-321957-64295-3740645-3329741-3784202.html

The problem is Ubuntu won't detect when I'm running on battery, or even
that I have one. I've activated the option to always show power mode in
the notification area, but it always shows that the laptop is running on
AC power even when it isn't.

I can't even do cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state since it freezes my
entire system. I can however do cat /proc/acpi/battery/*/state for
some reason:

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/*/state
cat: /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state: No such device
present: no

[Bug 282186] Re: HP Photosmart 2610 top first cm not printed

2008-11-21 Thread Till Kamppeter
bash, I have seen that you have printed printertest.pdf with the Adobe
Reader. The cutting which you have now comes most probably from the
Adobe Reader. It reads the PPDs from the CUPS queues and uses the data
to offer you paper size, input tray and duplex options (in the
Proprties sub dialog of the printing dialog. It also uses the margin
information from the PPD file for adjusting the printout size. This is
controlled by the Page Scaling option in the Page Handling group.
You have probably selected Fit to Printable Area or Shrink to
Printable Area, which makes Adobe Reader scaling or clipping the
document into the printable area according to the PPD file. So the
output of Adobe Reader does not put anything into the last 12.7 mm of
the page. As you know that the borders in the PPD are wrong, choose
None for Page Scaling and Adobe Reader will output the file in
original size without clipping. Or edit the PPD file to get the best
from the Fit to Printable Area and Shrink to Printable Area
settings.

Aaron, here you see that it is very important that the PPD files
represent the exact capabilities of the hardware. With the too
conservative margins functions like Fit to Printable Area and Shrink
to Printable Area (and also number-up or fitplot in CUPS) will not give
the desired results.
