[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-11-23 Thread Owen PG
I just think it's a laugh, a linux distribution that can't cope with
either NFS or CIFS mounts. See below for details:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nfs-utils/+bug/213444

Yes and I need to mount a resource both by NFS and CIFS . . .

It can't all be blamed on bug 1 - MS don't support nfs.

[Bug 249706] Re: ssh-copy-id fails when run with colon (:)

2008-11-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package openssh - 1:5.1p1-4ubuntu1

---
openssh (1:5.1p1-4ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes:
- Add support for registering ConsoleKit sessions on login.
- Drop openssh-blacklist and openssh-blacklist-extra to Suggests; they
  take up a lot of CD space, and I suspect that rolling them out in
  security updates has covered most affected systems now.
- Add ufw integration.

openssh (1:5.1p1-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * ssh-copy-id: Strip trailing colons from hostname (closes: #226172,
LP: #249706; thanks to Karl Goetz for nudging this along; forwarded
upstream as https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1530).
  * Backport from upstream CVS (Markus Friedl):
- Only send eow and no-more-sessions requests to openssh 5 and newer;
  fixes interop problems with broken ssh v2 implementations (closes:
  #495917).
  * Fix double-free when failing to parse a forwarding specification given
using ~C (closes: #505330; forwarded upstream as
https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1539).

[Bug 299489] Re: [jaunty] /usr/lib/libupsclient1.so is a dangling link

2008-11-23 Thread Morten Kjeldgaard
Attached is a patch to nut_2.2.2-9 from Debian (unstable). Please merge!

Unfortunately, the fix by Debian maintainer Arnaud Quette is not
sufficient to fix the problems with the package. I have done extensive
modifications to the package to get it right. Here is the latest
changelog:

nut (2.2.2-9ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
  * The Debian packager wanted to move move the shared libraries
from /usr/lib to /lib, but it was done by setting --prefix=/ which
does not give the desired results, and in addition resulting in
the pkgconfig and .la files being incorrect. This release fixes
the dangling shared library link for the -dev package (LP: #299489).
  * debian/rules: Now, --prefix is back to /usr, and --exec-prefix=/
and --libdir=/lib instead, which has the desired effect of moving
the libraries to /lib. The many shell commands in debian/rules,
for moving files from the install directory to the package
directories have all been replaced by dh_* calls and matching
package.* files.
  * Added debhelper files: libupsclient1-dev.install,
libupsclient1-dev.manpages, libupsclient1.install, nut-cgi.install,
nut-cgi.manpages, nut-hal-drivers.install, nut-snmp.install,
nut-snmp.manpages, nut-xml.install, nut-xml.manpages, nut.install,
nut.lintian-overrides, nut.manpages.
  * Modified debhelper files: nut.dirs.
  * debian/libupsclient1-dev.links added to provide a link from
/usr/lib/libupsclient.so - /lib/libupsclient.so.1.0.0
This is a transitional measure, to salvage packages that have not yet
been updated to the new library location. Can be removed sometime in the
future.
  * debian/control: versioned build depends on debhelper (= 6.0.7~), because
we are now using dh_lintian.
  * debian/compat changed to 6
  * Added patch to configure.in adding AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIR([m4])
  * configure attempts to locate /usr/lib/hal in order to define
callouts path and device information path. Therefore hal needs to
be present in Build-Depends:

Looks a lot like bug 286828, especially as etch seems to be using
3.0.24-6etch10.
Could you confirm that the fix there (when available) also fixes this one ?

[Bug 259278] Re: knetworkmanager will no longer connect

2008-11-23 Thread naught101
grahamt: the knetworkmanager in the intrepid repos is a dummy package -
it doesn't do anything by itself, it just depends on netowrk-manager-kde
(which is knetworkmanager renamed). If you installed from a CD,
knetworkmanager shouldn't be installed, and installing it won't change
anything (unless network-manager-kde also wasn't installed). If you
upgraded, the Hardy knetworkmanager is replaced with the dummy package,
which requests that network-manager-kde is installed.

In otherwords, if you already had the knetworkmanager program running,
then installing the knetworkmanager doesn't make a difference.

The only reason that might have fixed your problem, that I can think of,
is that network-manager-kde was somehow reconfigured at the same time,
however, I tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure network-manager-kde and it
didn't fix anything for me.

2008-11-23 Thread hyperair
I just got hit by it on Intel GMA965. This is the first time. Some extra things
worth considering:
1. I'm using a multi-head setup (1280x800+0+224 + 1280x1024+1280+0) with Compiz
running.
2. I'm using a patched mesa, to break the 2048x2048 false 'hardware' limit

[Bug 105195] Re: kvm can not run Windows XP

2008-11-23 Thread Alan
I hope someone else can verify this, but I believe I have a workaround
to the lost drive problem. I used W2K3 R2 Standard, 32 bit on a
Ubuntu 8.10 server 64 bit.

Use Virtual Machine Manager to create a new VM. Set the hard disk to an
IMG, not a QCOW2.

The preinstall went fine. Before you reboot the windows machine,
remember to set the CD back to the win2k3 iso image.

Worked for me - anyone else?

2008-11-23 Thread Rob Speer
Bug 264196 seems to be describing the same issue, but over there they've
found a few workarounds! Here's the one that worked for me with the
least nasty side-effects:

Add this to the end of xorg.conf:

Section ServerFlags
Option AutoAddDevices off
EndSection

The downside is that any extra keys on your keyboard (such as
multimedia keys) won't work.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me.

[Bug 301225] [NEW] can't define custom exit function

2008-11-23 Thread Mikel Ward
Public bug reported:

I had my own version of the exit function declared in one of my shell
startup files. It worked in bash and zsh, but not in /bin/sh on Ubuntu.

Adding to the problem, it seems GDM uses /bin/sh inspite of my shell
being /bin/zsh.

[Bug 301224] [NEW] Please merge jabref 2.3.1-6 (multiverse) from Debian unstable (contrib).

2008-11-23 Thread Onkar Shinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: jabref

Ubuntu changes that can be dropped:
1.  - debian/control
  * Change run time dependency to default-jre | java2-runtime.
There is no evidence that it does not run with latest Free JVMs.
(LP: #164216, #194509)
Reason: jabref does not actually run with GIJ. Also OpenJDK JRE covers i386,
amd64 and powerpc architectures now. So the bugs for which the change was made
are no more a concern.

2.  - debian/rules
  * Change JAVA_HOME for default-jdk.
Reason: Merged in Debian.

Latest Debian changelog:

jabref (2.3.1-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/watch: back to the redirector at qa.debian.org.
  * Use java-wrappers instead of the hand-crafted wrapper script; thanks to
Vincent Fourmond for the patch (closes: #506219).
  * Update README.Debian: mention supported Java virtual machines and
JAVA_HOME (cf. LP: #258198).
  * debian/rules: set JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/default-java.

[Bug 23497] Re: i8042 unbind required for keyboard/mouse to be useable following suspend/resume hibernate/resume cycle

2008-11-23 Thread Pietro Battiston
Lethe: am I wrong or your experience (and Matthew's answer) seems to
suggest that this is not a bug in acpi-support, but maybe in gnome-
powermanager?

In other words: if binding/unbinding is a hack, do you have any idea of
where the real work should be done?

Supposedly the fixed code is available in Debian. It seems just not to
have been picked up in *ubuntu - earlier posts in this thread seem to
confirm.

Amazing things I feel, a linux distribution that can't cope with either
NFS or CIFS shares. See below for details:
