[Bug 282298] Re: [SRU] Intrepid: No Access to NAS (samba=2.2.x) shares any more
Hi I have read through this bug with some interest and tried to add the libsmbclient suggested above and was told a newer version was already installed... I have a similar problem as reported initially and a real Linux Noob.. I was hoping the patch downloaded today would fix things but no joy.. g...@gary-laptop:~$ smbclient -V Version 3.2.3 My proceedings are as follows in a shell g...@gary-laptop:~$ smbclient //NASSTORE/PUBLIC -W SHAZ -U gary Enter gary's password: Domain=[ȇ] OS=[] Server=[] smb: \ ls cli_list_new: Error: unable to parse name from info level 1 Segmentation fault g...@gary-laptop:~$ the system logs this Jan 6 21:58:53 gary-laptop kernel: [ 3969.498048] smbclient[6183]: segfault at 0 ip b7ad42c3 sp bfed5f3c error 4 in libc-2.8.90.so[b7a5d000+158000] I can mkdir and cd etc but no access to file listings. Nautilus just re-directs itself to my home page. my NAS is a NexStarLX with the latest firmware Version installed which is like dated 2006-10-9 which doesnt really fill me with much warmth but I do knw this drive did work with a previous debian installation I had. not sure of the version. Funny old thing is the Solaris installation I tried also failed to access the NAS. (I have been trying out versions untill I found one I like.) (Ubuntu 8.10 seems to be the winner bar this samba problem :( ) I havent tried the gvs stuff yet.. but will ry and pick through it. Happy New year to you all. [Bug 264943] Re: gvfsd-smb crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

[Bug 82853] Re: Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay
I've reworked Pat's files into a patch against Ubuntu slapd source package 2.4.9-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 It's much more Debian-ized, except that there are still hacks since upstream source doesn't use autoconf to build this module. It produces an extra package slapd-smbk5pwd, that can be installed without any of the other packages that get build; you can use the ones from hardy-updates for slapd etc. I did this so that any security updates won't cause slapd-smbk5pwd to get uninstalled and bring down authentication services. I suppose there are other means of doing Single-Sign-On, but this one works now. Samba4 could shake things up in the area of SSO, of course it uses Heimdal-kdc (internally by default), so this module might live on even if it only gives slapd itsself integrated authentication with AD DC. ** Attachment added: Patch against Hardy slapd source to build smbk5pwd overlay module http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20965327/build_smbk5pwd_1.patch -- Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/82853 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Re: [Bug 313960] Re: Please update dnsmasq hardy packages to version 2.46
Hello Mathias and Team, After carefully reading the page you mention, I still fail to understand why dnsmasq 2.46 should not make its way to Hardy LTS at all. Since : - It IS also a security upgrade (should be raised above hardy's current version according to upstream's site). - No regression was introduced, as other distros have acknowledged, as your competitors' package listings show. The only 'valid' reason mentioned on this policy page would be : bugs that (a) are Fix Released in the current development release and (b) have been nominated but not approved for stable releases... although it remains unclear what exact policy applies in these cases. Moreover, this update would seem to qualify as a MicroException, in Ubuntu's own terms, provided the packagers actually can communicate with one another, which seems to be very much the case. All in all, what a disappointing answer! Not even a remote chance, either now or later! It makes it look like Ubuntu LTS is not even striving for production-ready status and that this claim as well as that of Long Term is but a slogan. Moreover, such a brisk invalidation of an otherwise valid report without even bothering to examine or answer the other arguments we gave regarding the benefits this update could bring to Ubuntu gives your company a bad name. Not to mention referring us to your policy page, since software quality and marketing have little to do with one another. It had been a hard time convincing several of our customers to switch to Ubuntu, and there will be no way for me or anyone else to talk them into accepting quick and dirty handmade non-supported backports like the one I made for this daemon and am currently using. Alas, the management's conclusions will likely highly resemble mine above: not production-ready, not an LTS release but for the name. (Please note this is not the first issue of this kind we've come across, only the first one reported, and that it used to seem - from testing previous releases since the not-production-ready-either dapper drake - that Ubuntu's maintainers were among the most reactive). Still hoping at the very least for an officially supported backport... And at best for more sensible consideration, i.e. a detailed answer to the reasons we formerly gave for this request, which ideally would match Ubuntu's claims to quality. Meanwhile (if so) I remain terribly sorry for this lack of concern towards quality and human consideration. Looking forward to the backporters' response. _Yet_, can you tell me if v2.46 stands a chance of making it to the regular LTS repos ? I must stress again that this would be an important improvement for LTS. To summarize: - if any dnsmasq user wants / needs to use a cname directive, v2.46 is required. - the question was asked several times in the past in every ubuntu forum whose language I can read (many times, that is...) - beginners won't backport - more experienced users may find it a waste of time to backport, and their work may not benefit to the community (I just backported, clumsily, and would not submit this work for anybody else's use unless someone officially in charge would take the time to validate / improve this backport). - anyone not directly involved in Ubuntu will not want to backport every single daemon in order to stick to the LTS release (I have backported 3 different servers last month, and this is not my idea of a Xmas holiday ;-). - LBNL who'd want the hassle of installing and configuring bind solely in order to declare a CNAME (or any number of them)? (or any other DNS server 4 that matter...) I probably should not have mentioned the backports repo in my previous message ; getting v2.46 there would surely be better than not at all on Hardy, _nonetheless_ the whole point should be to give _regular_ Hardy a simple DNS server with every function anyone would expect which works _out_of_the_box. [Bug 28052] Re: Improve mouse sensitivity and acceleration settings
It feels like Acceleration in Gnome control center corresponds to the constant multiplier acceleration in xset, and Sensitivity in Gnome corresponds to threshold in xset. If you set acceleration high and sensitivity low, it's impossible to move one pixel at a time. If you set sensitivity high, you can move within a large range one pixel at a time before it starts jumping. If you set acceleration to slow and sensitivity to high, it actually slows down if you move faster. This two-step acceleration is pretty much garbage for a real mouse, but works somewhat for a touchpad. For a real mouse, I have found that xset m 11/8 0 works best, using the hidden set threshold to 0 feature that uses a smoothly-varying acceleration instead of the jerky two-step. Hi Cesar, Cesar Arguinzones [2009-01-05 22:32 -]: I have same problem as endolith. But as long as my laptop is not having problems, i'm not interested in any type of logs. Is there a way to disable ALL logging in ubuntu? [Bug 133656] Re: Synchronising Tomboy via Webdav doesn't work
Please change the importance from 'Wishlist' to something else. The comment from Greg Grossmeier is not correct in my opinion: Tomboy is currently encouraging the user to install 'wdfs', but doing so is not possible. No new AddIn for Tomboy is required, what is simply required is that wdfs be packaged for Ubuntu, and no changes AFAICT to the Tomboy package itself. So: the importance is higher than wishlist because Tomboy's as-presented functionality is broken and gives misleading user feedback, and the fix is not an upstream problem, because no new Tomboy code is required. -- Synchronising Tomboy via Webdav doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 314291] [NEW] Cannot boot live CD using bootcdwrite
Public bug reported: Hello all, Have a problem here that I am hoping to have solved. I personally prefer Ubuntu (being South African), but if we cannot get this to work, we will need to move back to Debian. :( Previously using Debian 3.x and 4.0, the bootcd system worked well and allowed us to successfully backup our systems. We installed a PDMENU script for a user on the running system to restore the image using bootcd2disk. What it looks like is that from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server (i386 - have not tried others), IDE support has been totally removed and replaced by serial technology. I found I had to take the following steps in order to get the image created: 1.) Symbolically link /boot/System.map-$kernelversion to /kernelinfo 2.) Remove symbolic link for /bin/sh to /bin/dash and use /bin/bash instead. (This I believe has been solved in Ubuntu 8.10) 3.) Modified the GRUB bit in /usr/share/bootcd/bootcd2probe to reflect the title I want when the image is nuked down. Besides those modifications, I have changed nothing else. The image is created perfectly and I can easily burn the ISO to disk. When trying to boot the disk, the probe happens and does a wonderful countdown (in the spirit of the New Year) ;) . Thereafter, it complains that it is unable to change directory to /proc/ide. This, I am assuming is the filesystem on the CDFS. Any help would be appreciated. I have setup evolution to automatically filter for spam (options-e-mail-Junk-Check incoming messages for junk) and to obey mail headers (options-e-mail-Junk-Check custom headers for junk, is per default enabled) This setup does not work as email is still arriving in the inbox instead beeing moved to the junk folder as I expected. [Bug 314291] Re: Cannot boot live CD using bootcdwrite
You can try installing Ubuntu 7.10, then download from kernel.org a clean kernel, configure it using xconfig or menuconfig, (you can try google to get info about how to do it), compile it and finally create a deb package for your new kernel image and headers (obviously all this disabling the option SCSI Emulation) [You can google how to create your deb package from your kernel also]. Once you had finished with all this stuff you can upgrade (using apt and the internet or the alternate CD) Ubuntu. First yo 8.04 and finally to 8.10. If you're interested you can customize the installation CD to add your kernel as a package, or as the default kernel to boot from. I hope it helps. PS. Configuring and compiling your own kernel is very easy, so don't be afraid to try. [Bug 234484] Re: heavy network activity stalls network (on both ends)
I experience this very annoying bug since several months (after updating from the nice Dapper LTS to Hardy one): I initially suspected a bad network connection at one end but it seems this is not the problem. I also observe that SCP tranfer rates and ETA are false and not updated during the copies... and on very large files (50/100Mbytes), most of the time it finish as stalled probably because this timing/counter issue triggers a stop to the scp command. It seems to be a client side problem, not server side... SFTP does not seems concerned (and can be used to finish a long scp stalled file transfer without needing to restart from the beginning). As well, windows XP client scponly does not seems affected and can manage several 100 Mbytes transfers from a hardy openssh server without issues. I found an upstream solved issue that could be related: https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=799 The correction should be done in Hardy shipped version because of it's LTS status imo. [Bug 310854] Re: Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid
When I print A4 (text or photos through f-spot) I have no problems at all. AFAIK my printer cannot print this size borderless (altough I didn't had time for extensive testing, like 13x18cm or other paper formats). On A4, I have a little 3 or 4 mm border on every edge, image is well centered. That test was made with Canon proprietary driver. I also backported cups (1.3.9-11) and ghostscript (8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu13) from jaunty to intrepid. Gutenprint driver tells me some problems but canon one doesn't. I tested this one and prints the same as Intrepid standard cups/ghostscript. I never retried printing 4x6 photo on 4x6 paper since i don't love printing without paper, maybe the printing head could suffer damage... but, for testing purposes, I can retry. -- Printing Photos with Canon original drivers stopped working in Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310854 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 314296] [NEW] [needs-packaging] nautilus-clamscan.py is installed in /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-1.0 instead of /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2.0
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus-clamscan The package nautilus-clamscan-0.2.2-2, which was designed for debian testing only, has been imported into Jaunty. The problem is that Debian unstable and Ubuntu Jaunty require python nautilus extensions to be installed in /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2.0/python, while Debian testing requires them to be installed in /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-1.0/python. The -2 revision has been created to fix Debian testing for release and is not supposed to be used on systems integrating newer nautilus versions. In Jaunty, nautilus-clamscan.py being installed in the wrong directory, the extension isn't loaded upon nautilus startup at all. Therefore, nautilus-clamscan must be repackaged for Jaunty. [Bug 314298] [NEW] XFS inernal error in xfs_da_do_buf , file system lock up
Public bug reported: ubuntu 8.04 LTS-amd64 is used. XFS is used on a raid-5 md device made from 4x750GB drives connected to a promise TX4-300 controller. stripe_cache_size has been set to 16384 because of another bug in md that locks up whith the default stripe_cache_size (yes, it happened). On heavy load (several rsync processes on an intel i7 quad-core), I sporadically (after a week or so) get several of the bugs mentioned below. The fs can be more or less repaired with xfs_repair -L, but the machine has to be physically rebooted, as umount will just lock. I since upgraded to 8.10, as this is a production server and I hope that both the md and the xfs problems are fixed. I will add a comment if the same will happen there too.
