[Bug 314643] Re: package linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic 2.6.27-11.22 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
I just tried to update to the following day's kernel: 2.6.27-11.26 and ran into the same issue. The first error I spot in the synaptic terminal is: ERROR lilo fails for new /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-11-generic: ... And now, instead of the BIOS error, I get: Fatal: raid_setup: stat("/dev/sda") I'm not using any software raid or fake raid but do have bonafide hardware raid card. Haven't had any issues duing the last 10 kernel updates or so. Also worth mentioning that I run LILO and use the server kernel so I can enable PAE. Again, updating this hasn't been an issue before. -- package linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic 2.6.27-11.22 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 318442] Re: openjdk-6-jdk should be the default/priority for javac
I've pushed a proposed fix in bzr (linked above) which I think is the right fix for a more general problem, namely that there's other metadata already available that should tell us which packages are preferred, but we're not using it. This change adds sorting the package by archive component (including both the known Debian and Ubuntu components in the list, with all other components sorted last). To further improve the sort order, I think we should also sort by package priority - which requires storing that information in the database for all packages. The priority data in the Ubuntu archive is more or less unmaintained at present, I think, but it /can/ be fixed up if there's a use case, and I think that's a better choice than carrying overrides around in the command-not-found package itself. -- openjdk-6-jdk should be the default/priority for javac https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318442 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 314643] Re: package linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic 2.6.27-11.22 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
I'm getting the same error with today's update to 2.6.27-11.25 on both generic and server. I can't copy the error so I'll sum it up: ... Fatal: Bios device code 0x80 is being used by two disks /dev/sdc (0x0820) and /dev/sda (0x0800) Failed to create initrd image. ... sda is my boot disk and sdc is an audio player that's always plugged in (has never been an issue before). I did plug in another USB flash disk during the update (not sda nor sdc) ... might that have caused an issue? [Bug 322604] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 Password Bug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug is likely a duplicate of bug 287134 and the related bug 51551, which caused crypt(3) passwords to be used. Assuming you've applied the security update for http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-663-1 if you change your password, it should either get converted to an MD5 password or a SHA512 password, and thus not be subject to the 8 character limit. MD5 hashed passwords in /etc/shadow will be prefixed with $1$ and SHA512 hashes will have the prefix $6$; crypt(3) hashes will contain no such prefix. If you change your password and you still are getting crypt(3) hashes, then either there there is a pam configuration issue or something was incomplete with the update. Please feel free to report additional issues you come across while using Ubuntu. [Bug 187313] Re: [MASTER] right click (with button release) might activate random popup-menu-item
Alexander, I agree with everyone that says that disabling accessibility is not a workaround. In my case it was never enabled. Installing MouseGestures solved the problem for me. I understand that this is not a true fix for the problem but changing the behavior for Firefox right click through a patch instead of installing MouseGestures would be a way to calm down the frustration of users that already have noticed this bug but haven't reported yet because many users (the most I guess) don't know how to solve their problems through launchpad or irc (otherwise this bugreport would be a thousand times longer) . What I propose is to release a package with this workaround and make people who have this problem get informed that can install that package (maybe through ubuntu webpage as a known issue). I propose this just because as others have said before, Firefox is the default webbrowser in ubuntu and webbrowsing is an important task in a desktop, so the first impression that a new ubuntu user can have might be so frustrating that it would prevent him to consider ubuntu linux as an alternative to his actual OS, and the importance of this bug should be consider critical. This just as a workaround until you reach to a real solution. -- [MASTER] right click (with button release) might activate random popup-menu-item https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187313 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Well, that shows that you don't have a separate /boot partition *mounted*, but that doesn't mean you don't have one somewhere on your hard disk that's being used instead. Are there no other partitions on your physical hard disks besides the ones used for /dev/md0? Also, is there a chance that your RAID array is running in degraded mode for some reason, preventing the copy of /boot on the first drive from being updated when you make changes to the system? (cat /proc/mdstat) But as I said, this is unrelated to the bug you're following up to - this question would be better dealt with in the Ubuntu forums. [Bug 275432] Re: libpolkit requires files from policykit for polkit_context_init to work
Hi Martin, What feedback are you waiting for from upstream? Moving these files into libpolkit would cause problems (file conflicts) whenever the libpolkit soname changes, so should be avoided if possible. The code James cites uses a function named 'polkit_debug' - perhaps if this is for debugging only, it should not log anything by default? Or perhaps we should not log debug-priority messages to /var/log/syslog by default. Either way, from the log it doesn't sound like this functionally impairs the use of the library, is this really an SRU candidate or should we 'wontfix' the per-release tasks? -- libpolkit requires files from policykit for polkit_context_init to work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 282853] Re: Pidgin reports MSN contacts with mobile number always online
Note sure if this needs to be a separate bug, but what I found was that if I have a contact with a mobile #, and they are "invisible", they can send messages to Pidgin and I receive them, but any messages I send go to the mobile #. Interestingly, the other machine DOES see the "xxx is typing a message", but the message never appears - goes to the mobile. Steps to reproduce: 1) Set up two different MSN accounts - one for Pidgin, one for Windoze dead messenger 2) Configure the MSN Live messenger account with a mobile # to receive text pages and "allow users on my contact list to send messages" or however you enable that. 3) Using two computers (or running Windoze within a VM), Login using Windoze and set your status to "appear offline". Log in to Pidgin, too. 4) From Windoze, send a message to Pidgin. Pidgin gets it. 5) From Pidgin, send a message to Windows. The Windoze user will see "xxx is typing a message", but will never get the message - it goes to the cell phone. As of Jan. 28, 2009, this is using Pidgin 2.5.2 in Intrepid.
