I can confirm the default ACL for other are being applied correctly on file creation through a CIFS mount with the POSIX extensions disabled, on hardy. [Bug 259609] Re: package samba 2:3.2.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Same here, using Debian Lenny. I messed up smb.conf, so I decided reinstall samba thinking it would give me a fresh smb.conf, and it didn't, same messed up file was there. Then I removed samba again, removed the entire /etc/samba folder, and reinstalled samba giving a post-installation error nmbd failed to start, and /etc/samba folder wasn't created. After reading this post, tried removing also samba-common, though samba-common isn't a dependency of samba package. Bad idea, now I can't install samba-common again because /etc/samba/smb.conf doesn't exists and obviously it won't create it. So which package originally created /etc/samba folder and configuration files?? [Bug 259609] Re: package samba 2:3.2.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Well, I've managed the samba reinstallation in the next way. Noticed that samba depends on samba-common, and samba-common needed the smb.conf I deleted, which it should actually provide, I think. So I decided create a fake smb.conf (touch /etc/samba/smb.conf). Then I could install samba-common and it didn't complain about the empty file. Then I could install samba, also without any complain about an empty smb.conf. Next I thought was.. Now I just need to find the original smb.conf on the web and voila.., but before doing that, I realized looking in samba-common package info, that it installed a kind of template for smb.conf in /usr/share/samba, so I copied that file back to /etc/samba, so the server was aparentely working again, at least it didn't complain about anything. Another thing I realized looking on samba-common package info, was that it should have intalled /etc/samba/gdbcommands which I've seen before deleting them, but now is not there. -- package samba 2:3.2.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259609 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 36102] Re: Can't switch keyboard layout in gksu
It's strange that the gnome-screensaver (bug 49222) and gksu / gksudo do not use the same dialog mechanisms. I think a bigger bug is that they should both use the same code. I tried reporting it at Gnome. This bug ( http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=537486 ) was listed as not a gtk bug. Whose is it, then? Who maintains gksu / gksudo? Running Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) with the latest updates. Gnome 2.24.1. Note also that this could/should be coordinated with any and all other areas where login credentials are necessary, right? [Bug 330424] [NEW] process consumes all ram, reading X keyboard settings over and over again
Public bug reported: If I attempt to run OpenOffice, VLC, or K9copy (there may be others too, these are just the ones I've identified) the process rapidly consumes (500mb in 1 minute) all available ram and renders the system unusable. If I turn swapoff the computer will recover after a time, having killed the offending process, and I can use the computer again. If swap is not turned off, even after 15 hours the computer is almost completely unresponsive even after 15 hours of disk thrashing. Based on advice of johanbr on #ubuntu-ca I ran 'strace -p $k9copy_process_id 2strace-k9copy.log'. The log is 22mb. I'll post the head and tail of 100 lines below. Johanbr said the process keeps re- reading the X keyboard settings over and over again and asked if I have an unusual keyboard configuration -- I don't believe so. System Preferences Keyboard Keyboard preferences says keyboard Dell with USA layout. It is actually an IBM model SK-8820, however that model is not available in the IBM section. There are two dell models with similar model numbers: SK-8125, SK-8135. From System Preferences Keyboard I changed the keyboard to Generic 101 key and applied system wide. K9copy still consumes all available ram, or I presume it would if I let it. I killed it from System Monitor after it used 900mb and still hadn't shown a splash screen or window. The problem is that it still doesn't work. We (the users) don't know exactly what package is the culprit. You can change the package if you know another one contains the error. I already checked all possible mixer elements' positions and muting / unmuting. No change. I now kicked pulseaudio out of my system, so I cannot answer any further questions. [Bug 330407] Re: hibernate/resume problem
Could you please let us know the type of machine this is (make and model). Did you recently have a hibernate failure, this could have been some time before the report was triggered and offered to you. If you did, did the machine break while going to sleep, or while coming back from sleep? Is this reproducible say over 10 cycles. Has hibernate ever worked in the past, if so which kernel release (cat /proc/version_signature)? Please include any information as to the circumstances leading up to this failure, for example did your battery run out? Did the machine lock up, did any messages come out? If it is reproducible could you try the hibernate from VT1, press ctrl-alt-F1, login, and run pm-hibernate there. If you could test and report back here that would be helpful. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- hibernate/resume problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330407 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 330032] Re: suspend/resume problem
For the X restart issue, when this occurs could you grab the dmesg command output and the /var/log/Xorg.log.0 and attache them to this bug. For the rt73usb module issue, are you having to remove that manually to be able to suspend? You should be able to add that to /etc/pm/config.d/config, you need a line which looks like: SUSPEND_MODULES=$SUSPEND_MODULES rt73usb But you should probabally file a separate bug for that issue. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- suspend/resume problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330032 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 315889] Re: [R580] EXA has severe performance impact on ATI R580 (X1900)

Now that xorg.conf is not used any longer (for ati at least, and I suppose for fglrx neither?), this is no solution. I guess our X has been patched to prefer the fglrx driver if it is installed. One ugly way would then be to only load the fglrx module if fglrx is installed. in my case i only had the fglrx kernel part installed and not the xorg part. So this seems to be no solution. Adding a fglrx breaks ati would most precisely describe the truth, but it we don't really want people to uninstall ati because they want to try out fglrx. Well, i am not really for promoting fglrx ... if there is the choice of a) either breaking your free ati driver or b) making it painful to test fglrx lets chooose b). At least there should be some dependency between linux-source-fglrx and the fglrx package so that uninstalling fglrx will uninstall linux- source-fglrx as well. asac, did you keep the fglrx package and switched to ati in xorg.conf? This scenario should ideally be handled by the above mentioned module hook. i didnt keep the xorg fglrx package ... i removed it and forgot about the linux-source package. AFAIK, there is no mechanism to make linux-source-fglrx go away if you uninstlal the xorg package; a bit hacky, but we could put the content of linux-source-fglrx into the xorg package. IMO, we should add a hook that doesnt load the fglrx module unless a) fglrx is in xorg.conf b) not -ati xorg driver is installed - Alexander -- [R580] EXA has severe performance impact on ATI R580 (X1900) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
