[Bug 339823] [NEW] qmgr process loads the system when using rate_* in custom transports

Queue had only 73 emails in it when the problem happened (just like now, they are all deferred emails). Doing postfix stop / postfix start solved the problem. I reported the bug to Postfix Users mailing list and postfix's Author (Wietse Venema) found that it was a bug and posted a PATCH in the mailing list Some snippets from the list: --- VICTOR DUCHOVNI: Please wait for an updated patch, we believe we have identified the cause and reproduced the symptoms (in that order). I have a candidate patch, but I expect Wietse will send an updated more polished version in the not too distant future. The issue found applies only to rate-limited transports, if you are not using such transports, you don't need the patch. The patch ensures that work done at the completion of a delivery with a normal transport is correctly split between before suspend and after resume. The original 2.5.x code is correct for oqmgr, but not for qmgr (aka nqmgr), which requires additional internal state adjustments when destinations are blocked and unblocked. --- WIETSE VENEMA: To apply this patch, cd into the Postfix-2.5.* top-level source directory and execute: $ patch thismessage We were able to reproduce the scheduler looping problem, and it does not recur with the patched version. Wietse --- I applied the patch and the problem didn't happen again, but I need that patch to be integrated into postfix's ubuntu deb packages so that I can still benefit of future security upgrades. [Bug 338411] Re: Cannot retreive share list if samba client and server have the same hostname
Sorry if the bug description was not clear. The reason for staring this bug is not an attempt to fix this flaw in the smb protocol, but to have Ubuntu fail gracefully, while providing an error which helps the user diagnose, understand and correct the issue. The error should attempt to explain the issue: == Failed to retrieve share list from server. It is possible the server you are attempting to browse has the same hostname as you (or another node). To avoid this collision, please change hostnames on your network to be unique. [Bug 162253] Re: openssh: want hpn-ssh for 20x speed improvement!
I've looked around and seen some valid concerns about incorporating a large patchset like this into the Ubuntu packages, but: 1) It's real handy. I'm getting easy 2.5x boosts at home over a single- switch gig-e network. 2) Upstream (openssh.com) doesn't seem to have any burning interest that I can find, after... two years of availability? 3) Upstream (psc.edu) seems willing and able to maintain relatively regular patchset versions for several OpenSSH releases at a time. No release for 5.2 just now, but that doesn't seem like significant lag (yet), in context. -- openssh: want hpn-ssh for 20x speed improvement! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162253 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 339966] Re: dangerous action: dovecot-postfix force-installs new conf file
The problem is that on already-configured dovecot installations there is a chance that the dovecot-postifx.conf will not work out-of-the-box. I am sure that for *new* installations of dovecot the provided d-p.conf will work fine -- but this is not to be expected for existing installs. But ideally -- on existing customised dovecot installs --, the new configuration should be installed as -- say -- dovecot- postfix.conf.dpkg.inst, or similar, giving time for the system maintainer to check and adjust as needed. The newly-installed d-p.conf was broken, for me: 1. replaced my SSL certs by a default SSL cert; 2. disabled SSL client authentication; 3. reset user name formatting to the default (u...@realm, instead of just username); 4. disabled MD5 authentication. These are small changes, but the result was -- for example -- the loss of all Evolution mail filters for all clients, since nobody could connect to IMAP anymore. If, instead, the new dovecot configuration was created *without* being set active (and a warning given that dovecot-postfix integration was not yet active), I would have had time to adjust, check set the integration without causing any users any pain. I have since reinstalled dovecot-postifx, but now I knew the install was going to be broken, so I took the necessary care. If no such option (*not* to blindly replace existing dovecot configuration) can be be provided, then at least the installation procedure should provide an option to be cancelled. ** Changed in: dovecot (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- dangerous action: dovecot-postfix force-installs new conf file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339966 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dovecot in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 162253] Re: openssh: want hpn-ssh for 20x speed improvement!
Ubuntu is a packager, not a developer. The right way to get this to happen is for someone (who would have to be more motivated than I am) to talk to the Debian SSH maintainers, or even the openssh developers themselves. Options include forking (bad), making a completely new package out of the patched ssh and getting that into debian in parallel with the regular ssh, making such a package and serving it elsewhere, or convincing debian to accept the patch. I don't think this is the venue for further discussion, as it's clear ubuntu will not do anything directly. --jh-- -- openssh: want hpn-ssh for 20x speed improvement! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162253 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 331369] Re: regression vs. notification-daemon: positioning when multiple screens are available
This also affects multiple X screens. 1. Notification always appears on screen 0. 2. When focus is on screen 1+, the notification 'flashes' briefly (1/10th second) on screen 0. 3. When focus is on screen 0, the notification appears. If the focus is moved to another screen the notification disappears. If focus returns to screen 0 notification re-appears (all within the overall notification time-out). A related issue is that when running multiple X-screens applications are 'associated' with the specific screen (both by the user and the system). Therefore there is a high user expectation that if (say) Evolution or Firefox are running on screen 1+ the notification or alert should appear on that screen. This is especially important since multiple X screens may well be running in physically different locations (e.g. different rooms). -- regression vs. notification-daemon: positioning when multiple screens are available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331369 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 303697] Re: [fglrx] video tearing / vsync problems - independent of compiz use
I've tried enabling the OpenGL video output in xorg.conf as well as selecting it as output type in vlc. There is still tearing, it doesn't seem to improve. On a good note, I have built, installed and set up the RadeonHD free xorg driver (v1.2.4) and video playback is superb. Unfortunately, that driver doesn't have any DRI support for my video chip, so I must use full software rendering. My CPU can handle HD resolution video without any noticeable problem. I restarted with the FGLRX driver and played the video under vlc with the same options (hardware acceleration disabled) and there was still tearing. -- [fglrx] video tearing / vsync problems - independent of compiz use https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/303697 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 338785 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338785 John, I'm not sure that this bug is a dupe of bug #338785. In his bug, Rilium said he had to restart completely his computer to get firefox work again. For me, restarting firefox was enough. I'm aware that this bug can be not considerate as a bug because we are warned to restart firefox just after an upgrade. But can't we expect to be able to work in good conditions until the next firefox restart ? For me, after an upgrade, we have two solutions : - either we are forced to restart firefox to be able to go on, - or we can go on without restarting, but also without bugs. [Bug 339743] Re: Jaunty i386 popen() misbehaves on x86_64 kernel 2.6.26
And the first commit after v2.6.26 on which the problem is NOT exhibited is: commit ed8cae8ba01348bfd8f4648dd807b04d7f08 Author: Ulrich Drepper drep...@redhat.com Date: Wed Jul 23 21:29:30 2008 -0700 flag parameters: pipe This patch introduces the new syscall pipe2 which is like pipe but it also takes an additional parameter which takes a flag value. This patch implements the handling of O_CLOEXEC for the flag. I did not add support for the new syscall for the architectures which have a special sys_pipe implementation. I think the maintainers of those archs have the chance to go with the unified implementation but that's up to them. The implementation introduces do_pipe_flags. I did that instead of changing all callers of do_pipe because some of the callers are written in assembler. I would probably screw up changing the assembly code. To avoid breaking code do_pipe is now a small wrapper around do_pipe_flags. Once all callers are changed over to do_pipe_flags the old do_pipe function can be removed. -- Jaunty i386 popen() misbehaves on x86_64 kernel 2.6.26 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339743 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I was confused too, Ranxerox, but just the lines with ## are real comments, lines with a single # are used by the interpreter. So the procedure that worked for me (ThinkPad X31) is this: 1. Backup /boot/grub/menu.lst 2. Open /boot/grub/menu.lst in an editor (sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst) 3. Change the line # defoptions=quiet splash to # defoptions=quiet splash acpi_sleep=s4_nohwsig. These are the default options for each kernel in the boot menu. 4. Run sudo update-grub 5.
