[Bug 160310] Re: cups-pdf margins extend to the edge of the page

2009-05-04 Thread wt8008
This is an old bug report, but I also ran into this issue. The cups-pdf
package allows CUPS to directly have a pdf printer. When I installed it,
it provides a ppd file (/etc/cups/ppd) with the margins settings all the
way to the edge of the paper with the code

*ImageableArea Letter/US Letter: "0 0 612 792"

I looked at my laser printer and it had

*ImageableArea Letter/US Letter: "18 12 594 780"

so then I just changed the cups-pdf ppd file to that, and the new print
outs are within the margins.

[Bug 277589] Re: sony brighness on a geforce series older than 8 (nvclock works fine)

2009-05-04 Thread Steve Langasek
yleetiny,

It would help us to get this integrated into Ubuntu 9.04 as an SRU if
you would provide a diff against the hal package, rather than a stand-
alone .deb; we need to be able to integrate this into the hal package,
instead of having a separate nvidia-specific package.

[Bug 357673] Re: No notification when sliding audio volume, muting volume, sliding LCD brightness on X31, X32, T60, R50e, T42, R52

2009-05-04 Thread PhilippeDePass
bwalex's script (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hotkey-
setup/+bug/357673/comments/63) works well on my ThinkPad X31. Both
volume and brightness notifications appear.

Thank you very much!

However, when running from the terminal, I get an endless stream of
"brightness new crap occured".

The problem appears to be that my ThinkPad uses the old brightness node
(/proc/acpi/ibm/brightness)

However, the new brightness node still exists:

p...@phil-laptop:~$ cat /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD0/brightness

So I have modified it to check for this (again, this is a quick and
dirty fix)

[Bug 367138] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_region_copy()

2009-05-04 Thread jeff3211
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evince

I'm sorry this is my first bug report, and my first use of LiveCD ubuntu
9.04. It may not be a valid bug, but I am incompetent to determine
validity. I was reading the installation documentation for win4lin pro
and scrolling with the scroll wheel on my logitech VX revolution
wireless mouse when the app suddenly closed. I am using a pentium 4
prescott processor, ECS mother board with 1 Gb RAM and I am loaded from
LiveCD with my Ubuntu 9.04 distro. I have not checked the hash, and my
machine has been buggy lately, I have either a faulty RAM chip or a
failing Motherboard, so my machine may be the source of the bug. I
intend to build a new 64 bit machine when parts arrive Monday and I was
researching information for my new build to migrate away from Windows,
so you may find this bug report worthy of an early death! However if you
decide to investigate further, I will be happy to answer any questions
to the best of my ability. The application shows these details from the
  drop-down help menu about...Document Viewer 2.26.0 Using poppler 0.10.5
(cairo) you probably know the rest of the details about this program. I
was reading a pdf document from the win4lin pro website which was the
user's guide. I also had several windows open along with my firefox
browser. I had also clicked on the win4linISO file just before the
user's guide disappeared. I was scrolling up in the document to an
earlier page when the window simply closed. I hope the automated bug
reporter has properly selected the appropriate source package because
most of the details in your instructions are still over my head!

+ update
+ As of 2009-05-05 I am unable to recreate this crash. I have downloaded the
pkg for valgrind debugging memory issues and though I'm a newbie I figured out
how to launch the necessary program from within the valgrind program. There is
a difference in system properties, however... I had already disassembled this
computer and built another one using some of it's components. I pirated the DVD
drive, the EIDE interface cable and the power supply for use in the new build.
I installed different components in the suspect computer to recreate the crash.
In addition, the system hasn't been on a comparable period of time as of yet. I
will wait until late tomorrow night and try to recreate the crash again after
the unit has sufficiently heated up to a comparable temperature. If I am still
unable to recreate the crash it appears probable that it may have been hardware
related and not a valid complaint against the OS. The new computer which
utilized the pirated hardware has operated flawlessly to date. I will update
immediately if the issue returns, or if it appears with the new unit.

[Bug 363153] Re: Mythbuntu Install hangs at 90% due to & in password

2009-05-04 Thread Mario Limonciello
For mythbuntu packages, what you did is great. Thanks for the patch!
So if you are interested in how these changes get rolled in, you'll want to
download the bzr branch for mythbuntu-common:

bzr get lp:~mythbuntu/mythbuntu/mythbuntu-common

You can look at the history of commits to see what else had to get
changed to reflect your patch. You can even create commits yourself and
push to a personal tree of any package. You can then request us to
merge those changes. A developer (such as myself) would then review
them and if they are suitable, push them into the Ubuntu archive.

[Bug 367774] Re: EDAC spam in dmesg, edac-utils shows no erros

2009-05-04 Thread beltbraces
That works perfectly well until the next reboot. I just tried it, and it
certainly stops the error messages being added to the log, with no other
observable effect. It does leave the edac_core module still loaded, so
to get the same effect as a blacklist/reboot you would also need to do
"rmmod edac_core". I just tried that too, and again no observable
effect.

Of course removing the edac module is a bit like removing the battery
from a smoke alarm that is malfunctioning: it stops the false alarms,
but it doesn't make the alarm work!

[Bug 353502] Re: system freezes with nvidia 180.37 driver

2009-05-04 Thread boulder
I tried the 185.18.04 and it seems more stable than 180.44
BUT ... the screen was constantly flickering during game play (Command n
conquer 3)[Wine 1.20]
and it lasted about 5 min then it dropped to the desktop.
So I wont suggest this driver if you are a gamer :s

p.s
I get a minor and very strange screen tear's during gameplay in 9.04.

[Bug 372043] [NEW] Can't change name of default task list

2009-05-04 Thread Shahar Or
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Dear friends,

1. Open evolution.
2. Go to tasks.
3. Change the name of the default task list (the first one, which was created
automatically)
4. Quit evolution.
5. Open evolution.

The task list's name has been reverted to it's original name.

I think it should be expected that the name will still be what the user
has written.

Many blessings.

What is strange is that several reporters do not have a SB600/700/800

linked above, or at least it can't be explained by this kernel problem

[Bug 372040] [NEW] Request Package of electricsheep 2.7b9

2009-05-04 Thread Githlar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: electricsheep

As stated by http://www.electricsheep.org:

"We are losing our hosting for the v2.6 server. All users should upgrade
to v2.7. "

and

"Because the 2.6 server is being shut down, we are only distributing 2.7
clients. Although they are still in beta, they have been tested well and
we recommend them to all users, both new and old. "

So, being as v2.6 is going to be shut down, I think 2.7b9 should be
packaged and released as the recommended version for all active Ubuntu
versions. I'd hate to see this screensaver die (or lapse for that
matter), It's one of my favorites and I'm sure many other users would
appreciate it.

Sorry guys,
I don't really understand why it is not working, but you have to uninstall
the previous version of the package first, or maybe the paths I use are only
for 64bits.
I'm sorry, but I don't have a lot of time to help you for now.
So, could you extract the package, and try to install manually the files ?
each file have suffixes ".smart" (to prevent conflicts with HAL files).
I joined here the small script I use to debug. It will use HAL through DBUS.

[Bug 367520] Re: Very slow suspend-to-ram, poor VM allocation

2009-05-04 Thread Chris
** Description changed:

I seem to be affected by a bug similar to (or the same as) #79599 and
#290184. I'm reporting this separately because those two bugs have been
marked as "Rejected" and "Invalid", in one case with the observation
that the bug policy requires a new bug to be filed when the original
reporter is no longer seeing the problem. Also, I think I may have a
lead on what is causing this issue.

My system: Acer Aspire 5100 laptop, 2 GB RAM, Intrepid amd64, kernel
  2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Wed Apr 1 20:53:41 UTC 2009, ATI fglrx driver
is the only proprietary module, running Gnome and Metacity with
  compositing enabled.

When I boot the system it is pretty fast. I can launch lots of programs
and they don't take up the full 2 GB of memory, so a good fraction of it
is used as cache and the swap space is empty.

After a suspend-to-ram and resume, only the first 1 GB of RAM is in use,
and the swap is heavily used (about 800 MB is typical). I think this
swapping is what accounts for the slowness and he heavy disk activity
  people are seeing.

In my case, the resume time can vary from about 5 seconds to >15 minutes
(I cold-booted that time rather than keep waiting).

At a guess, it looks as if the suspend code thinks the suspended RAM
can't exceed 1 GB. So when the system suspends, it swaps out everything
above 1 GB. Resume is then very slow because critical parts of the OS
need to get pulled back in from swap, and the system runs slowly after
resume for the same reason. Strangely, the usage of real RAM tends to
stay below 1 GB even after the machine has been running post-resume, so
  performance doesn't recover very well.

It may be relevant that my system was installed with only 1 GB of RAM in
it, and upgraded to 2 GB after the install.
+
+ UPDATE: Switching from the fglrx to the open-source ati video driver
+ seems to have cured the problem. On my laptop it was necessary to tweak
+ the file
+
+ /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-acer.fdi
+
+ to add some more quirks to avoid having the screen go crazy after
+ resume. The updated entry looks like this:
+
+
+ true
+ true
+ true
+ true
+

[Bug 369378] Re: package ubuntu-docs 9.04.10 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)

For me it failed too, on an Eee PC 1000H with UNR.

pressed STRG-C, so that the update could go on like it should.

[Bug 330824] Re: Soft lockups (freezes) when deleting files from ext4 partitions on 2.6.28

2009-05-04 Thread Theodore Ts'o
Saïvann,

Thanks for your willingness to work on this.

>However the good news is that I'm ready to take a lot more time on this. If it

>git bisect again the whole jaunty kernel and to apply commit dbf8b1c4 each

>method to
>continue and find the information you need, I'll be overjoy to play again with
>this.

Actually, I have a better, more efficient way of doing this. I've
updated the "ubuntu-330824-test" branch on the ext4.git and my ext4
github repositories to include the rest of the Ubuntu Sauce patches up
to dbf8b1c4. That is, I started with the ubuntu-330824-test branch
which you tested, and then I create a script which cherry-picked all of
the non-ext4 commits from the Ubuntu kernel branch onto the
ubuntu-330824-test branch. So right now, the contents of
ubuntu-330824-test and the Ubuntu sauce patch up to dbf8b1c4 are
identical; that is, if you were to do a "git diff ubuntu-330824-test
dbf8b1c4" you would get no output indicating there is no difference
between these these two branches. The difference is that in the
ubuntu-330824-test then ten ext4 patches were moved to the beginning of
the patch series. So if you test the tip of ubuntu-330824-test, you
should see a failure, since that tree is identical to tree pointed to by
the commit dbf8b1c4. However, if you bisect this git branch, you will
hopefully find the other commit(s) that are required to trigger the bug.

Does that make sense?

Could you please confirm if you are having the same issues as described

Re: [Bug 328089] Re: splashy 0.3.13-3ubuntu1 conflicts with lsb-base

2009-05-04 Thread Alan Jenkins
splashy is not that splash screen. Splashy is a replacement to usplash (the
splash screen that appears before the login screen not the one used by
compositing managers after you login).

[Bug 173283] Re: Kate (?and Quanta and KDevelop user preferences) do not save

2009-05-04 Thread Locane
I'm having this issue, but specifically with the function names in
Kdevelop 3.9.91.

They're stuck on an almost black looking purple, and I can't see them.

I've found the files that (I think) are associated with the config for
kdevelop, but chowning them hasn't made a difference. I tried 'chown
-R' ing the whole share directory and even the file kdeveloprc
specifically, but nothing has changed.

Is this possibly associated with the silly little "Code Browser" tooltip
that pops up?

[Bug 372038] [NEW] USB keyboard dead after resume from suspend

2009-05-04 Thread mrisher
Public bug reported:

Hi:
When I resume from suspend-to-RAM, my USB keyboard does not work. If I unplug
and then replug it, it begins working as normal.

Strangely, I can resume from STR by pressing the keyboard, but it still
will not work after the resume completes.

I have tried various additions to the SUSPEND_MODULES line in
/etc/pm/config.d/xxx but with no avail.

Here are the last few lines of dmesg, which seem to be most pertinent
(these are the lines where I am unplugging and replugging the keyboard):
