[Bug 150068] Re: Sabayon editor crashes when trying to make a change in a profile
uname output: Linux shuttle 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux apt-cache show sabayon output : Package: sabayon Priority: optional Section: gnome Installed-Size: 3044 Maintainer: Ubuntu Desktop Team Original-Maintainer: Cédric Delfosse Architecture: amd64 Version: 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 Running Ubuntu 9.04 with xubuntu/xfce4 I am not using gnome, so when I start Sabayon I get the message "Xsession: unable to launch "gnome-session" X session --- "gnome- session" not found; falling back to default session." This does not seem to hinder the program from running however, and I believe this is just due to the many underlying differences between windowmanagers as someone else stated. Sabayon crashes on me when making changes to a profile. This is after selecting a profile and clicking "edit" and then creating a desktop launcer or moving around pre-existing ones. Often it is not even a "full crash" as it were - only the "Editing Profile: [users]" crashes - the small "user profile editor" window generally stays open. After opening the profile to edit, I get the following output in the terminal I started the program in: xfdesktop[18267]: starting up ** (update-notifier:18273): DEBUG: crashreport_check The way to replicate the crash is then to simply move an icon/launcher to a different part of the desktop, and then if necessary, move another one. This will cause the profile editor window to crash, leaving the User Profile Editor window where you can select/create profiles still open, and no output in the terminal that Sabayon is running in. Let me know if there is more info that you need, I just wanted to put this here as I am trying to deploy this on an enterprise scale and having Sabayon crash every time I move an icon really hinders moving forward with this. The need to save after every change like an early microsoft office product does not instill confidence in my superiors with regard to this being a viable solution to our needs. [Bug 366270] Re: [i945] [Xubuntu, i945] wrong screen resolution after upgrade to Jaunty
Quick fix, in case someone has the same problem: add the following to /etc/gdm/Init/Default: if xrandr -q | grep -q "VGA connected"; then xrandr --output LVDS --off --output VGA --auto fi What it does: if an external monitor is detected, it will switch off the internal one and sets the monitor to its optimal resolution. An even better solution would be to set-up an extended desktop in the case the laptop lid is opened, but I do not know how to detect this... More info about why this patch works It looks like the original bug is a combination of two issues: 1. The system does not detect that the laptop lid is closed and starts with LVDS output on 2. When both LVDS and VGA outputs are on (and the lid is closed), they get both drawn on the main monitor, the LVDS being drawn over the VGA screen.. This can be illustrated by the following three versions of /etc/gdm/Init/Default. (Note that I am now running with an 1280x1024 external monitor, while the original post was done with 1680x1050 - but is should not make any difference): I. no changes - system (gdm) starts in 1024x768 resolution - after login, I see the LVDS wallpaper - xrandr -q gives: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1280 x 1280 VGA connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x 270mm 1280x1024 60.0 + 75.0 60.0 1152x864 75.0 1024x768 75.0*70.1 60.0 832x62474.6 800x60072.2 75.0 60.3 640x48075.0 72.8 59.9 720x40070.1 LVDS connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 261mm x 163mm 1280x800 60.0 + 1024x768 85.0 75.0*70.1 60.0 832x62474.6 800x60085.1 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x48085.0 72.8 75.0 59.9 720x40085.0 640x40085.1 640x35085.1 TV disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) Note that LVDS is connected (even if the lid is closed) and that both LVDS and VGA have wrong resolution (which happens to be the biggest common resolution - is this a coincidence?) II. /etc/gdm/Init/Default with added "xrandr --output VGA --auto" - system starts with the correct resolution (1280x1024) - I get the LVDS wallpaper drawn over the VGA one - xrandr -q gives (deleted the lower resolutions lines for brevity): Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1280 VGA connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x 270mm 1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0 60.0* 1152x864 75.0 1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0 LVDS connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 261mm x 163mm 1280x800 60.0 + 1024x768 85.0 75.0*70.1 60.0 TV disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) III. The fix from the start of this post - everything works OK, assuming one has a closed lid - xrandr -q output: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1280 VGA connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 338mm x 270mm 1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0 60.0* 1152x864 75.0 LVDS connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1280x800 60.0 + 1024x768 85.0 75.0 70.1 60.0 TV disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) Note that there is no "*" in the LVDS output, so it is connected but not active -- [i945] [Xubuntu, i945] wrong screen resolution after upgrade to Jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Vast One: I somehow came to the same conclusion yesterday! In doing so, the system froze, or at least went very slow, even before doing entering KDE (usually the problem appears with video playback under KDE), and it was impossible to make my computer work all night! I tried 2h and then realized the computer was extremely HOT! This morning everything is back to normal. @Manoj: Do you think this might be related to some power management issue or overheating/overclocking? I'm in a bit of a rush but if I understand the question correctly, then the answer is: by template domain. The directory name is ignored, and indeed there are a few cases where the package names as kept in LP don't quite match the ones reflected by the directory names you see there. This also explains why we get showered with warnings when a KDE template has moved: suddenly there are two templates with the same domain, and the mapping breaks. [Bug 385639] Re: Automatic install of 2.5.6 leaves libpurple at 2.5.5
Strangely, after a few days of all seeming well, pidgin crashed and wouldn't restart. Looking at debugging messages, I found that it somehow had discovered the 2.5.4 libraries were still in /usr/local. (it was the 2.5.5 ones that were previously removed to fix the previous problem with trying 2.5.6. I'd somehow overlooked the presence of the still older 2.5.4 libraries). I found I still had that source version around, so I tried as root, "make uninstall". It didn't work, but rather than try to debug why, I just used rm to rip the old version out of /usr/local. pidgin resumed working after that. I'm mystified how things could have been OK for a while and then the older library suddenly was noticed?? Bottom line is that with default library search paths in Ubuntu Intrepid, it evidently is real important to purge away all older versions of the purple libraries from /usr/local before plugging into the new repository for automatic pidgin updates. The install instructions should warn about this. If pidgin in [/usr/bin, /usr/lib] can't be happy coexisting with a different version in [/usr/local/bin, /usr/local/lib], then maybe the install scripts should watch out for that situation and rip the incompatible version out of /usr/local/lib before it causes trouble. -- Automatic install of 2.5.6 leaves libpurple at 2.5.5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/385639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for the report, but I'm going to have to mark this "won't fix". 1) All of the usable f-keys are taken. 2) Screen provides a key sequence for killing individual windows, ctrl-a-k 3) Screen provides a key sequence for killing all windows, ctrl-a-\ I don't believe that killing all windows is generally valuable enough operation to use an f-key on. However, you're welcome to add a simple line to your ~/.screenrc, which overrides byobu's settings. You could, perhaps, change the F6 key to kill-all-windows, instead of detach, on your system with: echo "bindkey -k k6 quit" >> $HOME/.screenrc :-Dustin ** Changed in: byobu (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Won't Fix -- Keybinding missing for quitting screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375410 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, you're using the intel driver and xv is working fine. The driver reports that it is out of ressources and xine can nothing do but quit.
