[Bug 396890] [NEW] Layout change Ctrl+Shift problem

2009-07-07 Thread alecs
Public bug reported:

Strange behaviour of Ctrl+Shift as a layout changer (US/RU) : it fires
only when Shift is first pressed. If you press first Ctrl it is not
fired at all ... Alt+Shift works OK. Don't know the name of the package
with bug (if it's a bug).

[Bug 323733] Re: [Compaq Presario CQ60] suspend/resume problem

2009-07-07 Thread Jamie Lokier
I can confirm the same problems on a Compaq Presario CQ60-219EA with 4GB
RAM running 64-bit Jaunty, installed and updated a couple of hours ago.

The console shows disk I/O errors, and ext4 eventually decides to
remount the disk read-only.

When this first happened, I have the NVidia proprietary driver installed
and:

- Suspend took a long time. I think about 10-20 seconds.
- Resume also took a long time in a blank screen phase, and
eventually the X mouse pointer appeared, but the remaining desktop didn't,
  it was all black.
- I was able to Control-Alt-F1 to a text console, and that showed disk I/O
errors
  and ext4 remounting read-only.
- I was not able to login on the console. Each time I tried, a couple of
disk I/O
error messages appeared, and then after a few seconds the login: prompt
  reappeared.

On that occasion, after the post-resume broken state, I held down the
power button for 5 seconds to power down. Then pressed the power button
to start up again, and booted back into Linux.

Despite the theoretical power cycle, Linux was unable to complete the boot
process, at some point showing messages about CPU#0 and CPU#1 both
being stuck and detected by soft-locked.

I held down the power button again, to power cycle again, and this time Linux
did boot successfully back to the desktop.

Then I removed the NVidia proprietary driver, and logged out then into X
again. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the screen was a mess, showing neither a
good picture as with NVidia, nor the low-resolution extremely slow
picture without the drive. Fair enough, who tests driver removal. So I
power cycled again.

This time it booted and showed the low-resolution extremely slow
desktop, confirming the NVidia's driver had gone. So I tried
suspend/resume, and got similar results:

 - Long time to suspend
 - Nothing useful on resume

For one last test, I power cycled again, and this time instead of
logging in to X, I switched to a text console after the X login window
appeared. (This is still without the NVidia proprietary driver loaded
at all during this session).

>From the text console, I did "pm-suspend", which took a while but did suspend.
Then when I pressed the power button to resume, the power light came on, and
eventually the wireless light (very slowly - about 30 seconds to the wireless
light), but a blank screen with no backlight. Caps Lock did not respond
either, so it wasn't simply a case of no screen.

I can only do quite occasional testing of this laptop from here, because
all this was in preparing it for someone else. For whom my advice is
obviously going to be "don't use suspend, at least for now".

I believe so, to clarify: The functionality I was looking for is having
the desktop span two displays, but having the windows snap to a single
display when maximized. This wasn't possible under the previous driver
as it would crash when I attempted to enable dual displays in this
manner.

Can't hurt to attach my xorg conf and log, let me know if this is what
you're looking for.

[Bug 254966] Re: The --ssh-key changed behavior between hardy-updates and hardy-proposed

This bug was fixed in the package ubuntu-vm-builder - 0.4-0ubuntu0.4

---
ubuntu-vm-builder (0.4-0ubuntu0.4) hardy-proposed; urgency=low

  * revert change in behavior from 0.4-0ubuntu0.1 to 0.4-0ubuntu0.2
for the --ssh-key option. It used to add a ssh key for root logins,
but with that version it changes that to a $VMUSER login.

[Bug 305817] Re: package linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic 2.6.27-7.16 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 17

2009-07-07 Thread Eric Miao
The Live-CD is supposed to be used on a read-only media and thus the
upgrade may not fully function even if it is used on a write-able USB
storage. The /usr/sbin/update-initramfs is replaced with a simple shell
script outputting a warning instead of actually performing the desired
operation on a Live-CD, so /etc/initramfs-tools/* are ignored. Please
refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent for a
persistent installation.

Could you please also test this mainline kernel build

That is also 2.6.27 kernel and please let us know your result.

[Bug 272560] Re: [i830] dell inspiron 2600 lcd unusable and corrupt

2009-07-07 Thread Bryce Harrington
I suspected that was so, thanks for confirming.
Btw, I would like it if you could subscribe directly to the upstream bug at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22595 so you can answer their
questions directly; if I'm in the role of a go-between you and upstream it
could delay how long it takes to get your issue sorted out.

[Bug 79030] Re: gnome-video-thumbnailer uses all available CPU power when using bittorrent

2009-07-07 Thread mlissner
I'm a little disconcerted that this bug has been around for so long, and
yet that it is still marked as low priority. Sure, it's not a crasher,
but any application that is using 100% CPU is a big problem, in my
opinion.

The solution for this seems pretty obvious and easy to program. I wonder
if we can get it nominated for the 100 papercuts, or somehow get it
triaged for the next release?

[Bug 396880] [NEW] Xfce4-weather-plugin stopped working fw days ago

2009-07-07 Thread Nikola M
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-weather-plugin

Is seems that Xfce weather plugin stopped working for no reason few days ago.
I am using Xubuntu Hardy/8.04 LTS amd64(x86_64)

Accidentally, there is some kind of `explanation` on Xfce forum that author of
plugin changed something remotely
that resulted in disabling xfce4 panel plugin working state in all plugin
versions except newest one (???)
http://forum.xfce.org/index.php?topic=5117.msg18185#msg18185
They are suggesting all users to update to newest version for plugin to
function (??)
I sounds to me pretty much unreasonable to disable plugin working in stable
editions `just like that` by the authors of plugin.
Maybe plugin stopped working for some other reason, like, wheather service is
was using not there anymore, etc?
If that, it would need patching or truely an update to work again in our LTS
release.. ?

[Bug 381517] Re: Cannot disable console blanking in /etc/kbd/config

2009-07-07 Thread Daniel Richard G.
A couple of points I neglected to mention in the original report:

1. Setting BLANK_TIME=0 in /etc/console-tools/config in Debian Lenny
successfully disables blanking, so this problem is specific to Ubuntu.

2. For now, I've worked around this bug by invoking

setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0

in /etc/rc.local . Inelegant, but effective.

[Bug 378167] Re: nfsroot + multiple ethernet interfaces == boom

2009-07-07 Thread Stephan Hermann
Hey Ward,

try the following:

add to the pxe booted kernel the appendline: ip=all

ipconfig should try to send dhcp requests to all known interfaces,
means, it brings all interfaces up and sends out dhcp requests...one of
the nics will get an IP and voila it gives you the result.

Regards,

\sh

PS: There are other issues with klibcs ipconfig tool, in combination
with real network hardware like cisco and netconfigs with spanning trees
and portfast config...etc. but this needs to be filed in another bug.

[Bug 384402] Re: Sierra Wireless MC8775 fails to wakeup from suspend to ram: usb_dev_resume returns -19

2009-07-07 Thread Bryan Wu
If you could also test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine this
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your

[Bug 361758] Re: [Asus m2n32 sli deluxe wifi, evga 7600gt] hibernate/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

Please let us know your
results.

If the issue remains with the upstream kernel, please be sure to also
run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic

[Bug 107950] Re: x-session manager eats 100% CPU, nautilus won't start, applications won't start

2009-07-07 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
I can confirm this on Ubuntu 9.04 32bit, running in a VirtualBox virtual
machine. I am not running Amarok, I am running a test script that opens
and closes LyX thousands of times while sending it random keypresses. I
will try to determine exactly what causes the problem.

[Bug 389322] Re: Yahoo server authentication changed: Pidgin =<2.5.6 will not connect to Yahoo! servers.

2009-07-07 Thread shubes
Any idea if/when the fixed version will be backported to hardy? This
would seem to me to be a fairly high priority, given that hardy is the
the current LTS version. I would expect this bug to stay open until this
has been done.

[Bug 348275] Re: [iwlagn] networkmanager applet cannot connect to WPA2 home network. Neither can WICD.

2009-07-07 Thread thornbe
I am still successfully connecting via WPA2 after enabling my SSID to be
broadcast on my wireless router.

Can someone else verify their SSID broadcast options and test with SSID
broadcast enabled. Then test with SSID broadcast disabled.

[Bug 236640] Re: iSCSI install fails under hardy

2009-07-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package open-iscsi - 2.0.870.1-0ubuntu5

---
open-iscsi (2.0.870.1-0ubuntu5) karmic; urgency=low

  * utils/iscsi_discovery: replace uses of awk with other shell voodoo, so
that this works in the installer. LP: #236640.
  * debian/rules, debian/open-iscsi-udeb.dirs: install the open-isci-udeb
finish script to /usr/lib/finish-install.d, not to /lib/finish-install.d.
  * debian/open-iscsi-udeb.finish-install: copy the config from the root
to the correct directory in the target.

[Bug 153575] Re: LG GSA-4163B ata1.00: serial number mismatch

2009-07-07 Thread ubuntuwalter
This is a dual-boot laptop Presario v2000 with Windows XP and Ubuntu.
The drive works in Windows XP and is listed as two different drives.
DVD-RW (Drive D:) and DVD-ROM (Drive H:) thus may be the source of the
conflict reported in dmesg.

After rebooting back to Ubuntu the drive now reads the music cd.

[Bug 363812] Re: Ericsson F3507g (0bdb:1900) - does not display in NetworkManager, tho USB ACM devices are registered

2009-07-07 Thread Alain Rossmann
Experiencing same problem on Lenovo X200 with embedded Ericsson F3507g
card. Using 2.6.28-13-generic.

Used to work great, now does not show up in lsusb and
/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/wwan_enable does not exist.

I have not been able to make the card work by hibernating/resuming.

Makes the card inoperative, a real problem for those of us who depend on
this functionality.
