[Bug 422536] Re: EDAC amd64: WARNING: ECC is NOT currently enabled by the BIOS. Module will NOT be loaded.
Not sure why the error system on my PC connected to this bug thread, but immediately on starting newly installed 9.10, on this Amd64 system with Nvidia audio and video (using, I believe ATM, the open source drivers) I'm getting persistent, essentially constant reports of "System encountered a serious kernel problem ... May be unstable" Seems(?) to run okay though, so far. No ECC memory in this box, but as someone noted, the Phenom processor might have the logic to support it. -- EDAC amd64: WARNING: ECC is NOT currently enabled by the BIOS. [Bug 269329] Re: [MASTER] NM 0.7 lacks bluetooth 3g support
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "some extra scripting" and "with the right setting". Even if I connect my phone manually using rfcomm (with sudo), Network Manager has no way to setup a PPP connection, let alone one with all the extra initialization needed for a 3G dialup - this is a regression from 0.6 where it was possible to set up generic PPP connections that worked both with standard modems and with bluetooth phones if you bound them manually. I got my phones to work with dial-up, using a 20 line script (with several "sudo") that does the rfcomm bind and starts gnome-ppp or wvdial with the correct configuration - I wouldn't call that simple, and it took me quite a while to get it right so I wouldn't call that easy to the point that the average Joe can do it. I think the current situation where someone with no system administration or programming background CAN NOT get bluetooth based network access, far from ideal and is several years behind the competition - on another operating system I can get both my bluetooth phones to setup dial-up networking in minutes without any need for scripting or running obscure administrator only commands. What I expect from Canonical and Network Manager developers, is to have "mobile broadband" connections start by attaching to a bluetooth device that supports DUN, instead of only using USB and PCMCIA connected modems. -- [MASTER] NM 0.7 lacks bluetooth 3g support https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269329 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 95853] Re: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus
Well, you already get a confirmation if you want to delete the trash- bin. So you are asking for two confirmations instead of one. The question is: If one confirmation does not prevent you from deleting the trash, why should a second confirmation make a difference? IMHO it doesn't. It's just bloat. But, I don't object to the way it's supposed to be implemented. It's an additional option. The default behaviour isn't changed. So you can enable it if you like joel. Finally, I agree with nomnex - although he could have been a little more polite - this issues has been completely overblown and is not very important. Ubuntu folks should not wast any more time with this topic. -- Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95853 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 469857] Re: https://help.ubuntu.com/ dont translatable
In fact you did add the link - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UserDocumentation?action=diff&rev1=624&rev2=625 However, we currently choose to offer translated documentation through another method, which is to refer to other websites which are maintained by the local Ubuntu communities around the world. If you look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community, you'll see a prominent link near the top of the page which points to this page other languages: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/local - you'll see Spanish there. We could probably do better to make other languages available by recognising the user's language automatically and offering the localised page, but that is a separate issue. As a result I'm going to close this bug and remove the link from the page. [Bug 469704] Re: audacity skips, consumes 110% processor
I have the problem with the audio both from .aup files and .wav files. Exporting to mp3 seems to work correctly. Using Alsa, PortAudio V19-devel, playback to default (just changed to pulse, problem persists, none of the other settings give me any sound). I followed the instructions as requested, and I now have lost sound to the whole system; I suspended, then resumed, since this usually works, but this time it did not. Log of this is attached. I do have another SoundFusion audio card installed that I'm not using; I'll try removing it and see what happens. ** Attachment added: "pulseverbose.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34932452/pulseverbose.log -- audacity skips, consumes 110% processor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469704 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 453579] Re: corruption of large files reported with linux 2.6.31-14.46 on ext4
I also had this issue but I can't really nail it down. The explanation that it has only something to do with Kernel 2.6.32-rc* makes sense. I used it several times on my two systems. I got different md5 for the same file and if I played a video which was affected the player stops and the hard disks runs all the time and the systems hangs for a minute or more. It looks like a part was missing and the driver was searching for it. I even shot down my whole testing system. I have a small testing partition to test Linux outside the VM. After some xorg edgers installation and restart I got an fsck problem which asks for confirmation, some inode problem. After confirmation it asks again several times so I run it with -y which delete a lot of files. Afterwards the system didn't boot anymore. I have installed grub on the partition instead of the MBR, maybe that resulted under some special circumstances in this problem but I have done this since a long time and never had problem with it. So actually using of 2.6.32 makes more sense since I use ext4 since quite some time. I haven't had a problem since sticking with the default Kernel but this problems doesn't just pop up. You don't realize that a huge file has changed until actually checking/using the whole thing. -- corruption of large files reported with linux 2.6.31-14.46 on ext4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/453579 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 453579] Re: corruption of large files reported with linux 2.6.31-14.46 on ext4
@aldebx Of course I realise this, perhaps I need to elaborate my idea. I mean, since the error apparently occurs when large files are edited, a test should be devised whereby changes are made to a large file, saved, and then un-done and saved - and the before and after checksums compared, to see if there in fact is a problem with writing large files. Furthermore, since the problem allegedly happens around bits at the 512MB mark, so my idea is to write a program to take an X number of blocks before and after this bit, and swap them. X must be even to ensure every block is swapped with another. I am thinking of swapping 1000 blocks before the point with 1000 points after the point. Using fsync and running the program twice should ensure that both changes are written, and the second undoes the first - thus if two hashes of the file are taken, one before and one after the experiment, they will either be identical if no problems occured or different if there is in fact a problem. So my question is, would this be a good test to do? I will probably have time to do it tomorrow. -- corruption of large files reported with linux 2.6.31-14.46 on ext4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/453579 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 470170] [NEW] ask.com is the only navigation toolbar search engine alternative
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.5 Possibly related to bug #383484 I had not configured any search engines for firefox-3.0, but used the default Google in the Navigation tool bar. After upgrading, the only choice available is adk.com [ask.com is rather useless for me, being unable to limit searches to either my home country or my native language. Anyway, someone else overriding my preferences for search engines is definitely uncool.] There is a choice to manage search engines, which again leads to the general Mozilla plugin search page, where there does not seem to be any straight google search plugin. I am looking for the simple default that was there in 3.0, not a new toolbar or some fancy additional functionality.
