Seems like some WLAN cards can't survive continuous NetworkManager's
CTRL-EVENT-SCAN attempts of keeping good roaming. Seems like there can't
be any progress 'til NM authors finally conclude that roaming MUST be
refined seriously (e.g. disabling rescans until signal strength falls
below 60% or so).
No, this is not limited to nvidia drivers. I have an old ATI Radeon
Express card and I'm affected by the bug.

manager-openvpn which adds route of my LAN to tap device, so that I lose

then restarted.

As an experiment I switched from kdm to gdm using dpkg-reconfigure gdm.
The problem goes away when using gdm. Text behavior on tty1 and tty7 are
normal; graphics comes up on tty7 as normal.

However, only the former contains:

This is not actually a bug in the Netbook Edition. The way that widgets
are locked is by selecting the tab for either applications or newspaper
settings.

i am not buying that this was a design decision; no one with a sense of
design or the capacity to see things through eyes would sign off on
this. please just cop to the fact that there's some bug preventing the
notifications from being drawn in the right place.
