Another episode of this happened last night, about 4.5 hours after rebooting to install the new kernel. This is a much shorter timeframe between episodes. I had tried autofs5 before to try and resolve without success. This time I purged autofs first. On second thought, this isn't the correct upstream as the reported here is asking for /var/log/auth.log logging and according to upstream that should already be done. The upstream bug was for client notification of the issue which isn't really possible as described upstream. ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Changed in: openssh Importance: Unknown = Undecided ** Changed in: openssh Status: Unknown = New ** Changed in: openssh Remote watch: OpenSSH Portable Bugzilla #1554 = None -- openssh server should warn that .ssh/authorized_keys is not accessible (causing ssh pubkey authentication to fail silently) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 505301] Re: openssh server should warn that .ssh/authorized_keys is not accessible (causing ssh pubkey authentication to fail silently)
The attached trivial patch applies the wish I described above, it informs more why authorized_keys is not being used. The patch is tested for all error conditions it should report, both with default LogLevel INFO, as well as with DEBUG3. Below detaild explanation what it does - and results of test. It needs debug1 level to show conditions that are typical (missing authorized_keys), and it logs usually conditions that look like errors (i.e. .ssh/authorized_keys exists, but is inaccessible) Examples of what will be in log for various use cases conditions: rm .ssh/authorized_keys Jan 10 05:22:48 lcwood sshd[15934]: debug1: unable to open public key file /home/rafal/.ssh/authorized_keys chmod 000 .ssh/authorized_keys Jan 10 05:19:26 lcwood sshd[15763]: authorized_keys ERROR: permission denied for opening user rafal authorized keys /home/rafal/.ssh/authorized_keys! chmod 000 .ssh/ Jan 10 05:21:08 lcwood sshd[15817]: authorized_keys ERROR: permission denied for opening user rafal authorized keys /home/rafal/.ssh/authorized_keys! mv .ssh .ssh-2 ln -s .ssh .ssh Jan 10 05:26:40 lcwood sshd[16088]: authorized_keys ERROR: Can not access user rafal authorized keys /home/rafal/.ssh/authorized_keys - Too many levels of symbolic links (errno=40)! [Bug 443235] Re: changing the wired network profile, doesn't work
Incidentally, when I select automatic DHCP addresses only in the manage connection window wireless-tap, and I insert opendns ip-addresser, dns does not work either. The ip-addresses do not turn up in /etc/resolv.conf. This and a number of other bugs in (kde) networkmanager are so serious for everyday practical use. I know at least 5-6 programmers who just laugh of nm because it so hopelessly buggy. They won't ever bother about writing bug reports because this is too far out. They just use other programs such as wicd. As I have written in another bug-report, it doesn't work for HUAWEI modem either. But, since I made a simple script for wvdial, it works EVERY time. Calling the importance of these bugs low is just out of proportions. It is so critical that even clever programmers avoid using the program on their laptops. I hope the developers soon will fix these absolutely critical bugs and test networkmanager properly. -- changing the wired network profile, doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/443235 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to plasma-widget-networkmanagement in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Minor correction to my comment - I was misreading the glxgears output, the figure stated is number of frames in 5 seconds, not frames per second. Still, it's within the normal range for my hardware. That aside, Compiz works fine under Gentoo, with the same hardware, same driver version, and same xorg.conf as under Ubuntu. -- gtk-window-decorator crashed with signal 5 in g_logv() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 449783] Re: [Xubuntu Karmic] Pulseaudio doesn't save volumes when rebooting
Hi i found the solution to all sound muting problems this is because alsa mutes the sound when it exits and also if pulseaudio is installed it only exits after alsa meaning when alsa mutes the volume pulseaudio in turn saves that value thus it is mute after every boot i found the solution here http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=556971 in case u do not understand edit /etc/init.d/alsa-utils with mousepad or some other editor and find the following lines esac card_OK $TARGET_CARD || log_action_end_msg_and_exit $( [ ! $2 ] ; echo $? ; ) none loaded store_levels $TARGET_CARD || EXITSTATUS=1 mute_and_zero_levels $TARGET_CARD || EXITSTATUS=1 log_action_end_msg_and_exit $EXITSTATUS change mute_and_zero_levels $TARGET_CARD || EXITSTATUS=1 to #mute_and_zero_levels $TARGET_CARD || EXITSTATUS=1 thus disabling the muting and saves all your troubles if does not work then: sudo chmod 777 /var/lib/alsa/asound.state alsactl store set alsactl restore to load on startup if it is still mute ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #556971 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=556971 -- [Xubuntu Karmic] Pulseaudio doesn't save volumes when rebooting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449783 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 352732] Re: [jaunty, karmic] Sound muted after boot
I discovered #38 and #77 methods in Karmic. #77 works as confirmed earlier. #38 doesn't work solely, but that method works together with #77 (actually I'm not sure whether #38 method has any action to Karmic sound settings). #77 seems to be an easy way to get audio unmuted in Karmic, at least for me and for some others that have reported here in a way like that.. BTW: For me, method #77 doesn.t enable drum sound at the beginning. The login sound is enabled as well as master channel set to the previous shutdown level. Actually, this is not a great problem, but an interesting dilemma.. -- [jaunty, karmic] Sound muted after boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/352732 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 395239] Re: [karmic] 2.6.31 kernel does not load custom DSDT
@Krastanov: I don't know how exactly to interpret the following sentence: 2) Report a specific bug about that DSDT - the current policy is to fix the bugs in the kernel and NOT loading custom DSDT. That won't change any time soon.. Do you mean that - in _specific_ cases the kernel _could_ be instructed to override the DSDT, or that - it may try to workaround the DSDT flaws but without changing it directly, or that - the bug should be reported just for the sake of information, but not much can be done about it because DSDT problems are not bugs in the kernel? It is one crucial point that I'd like to understand, and presumably Tony and Simone too. Re: [Bug 500686] Re: [i945g] freezes shortly after loading desktop
This is great! That means that there is something between 2.6.31-rc6 and 2.6.31-rc7 that introduced the freezes. I will see if I can get some test kernels built for you that has only some of those changes. That way we may find the exact commit that introduced the freezes. I have compiled a few kernels and uploaded them to http://www.kvante.info/945freeze/ . If you could tell me which ones freeze, we should be able to identify the bad commit with one more round of testing. The 3-digit number (299,300,499) in the file name indicate the order. If you test 300 first, you only need to test 299 if it freezes and 499 if it doesn't freeze. I'm compiling a 799 now in case none of them freeze, but I may not be able to upload it right away. Once we have found the bad commit, I will get someone on Karmic to reproduce the findings there. Hopefully things do not change there.
