I have this problem, this is because mysql isn't compiled with readline (or linked or something). Ergo it also can't do the nice stuff. I'm also in favour oif marking this as bug, since it feels like a regression. This will compile the source package, and most importantly, compile it for other architectures. Thierry: I cannot think of a downside to having keyutils installed. mount.cifs can authenticate using NTLM. In fact, this is the default. Kerberos authentication for CIFS mount is only really used in Active Directory context. In that use-case, the administrator of the machine mounting a CIFS share already had to do something (join the AD and/or configure Kerberos), hence my earlier comment. However, making keyutils a Recommends of smbfs make sense to me. I would go for that, as it would simplify the process. Alright, I've figured out some of my weirdness... I tried my netbook that runs ubuntu, it connects to the desktop with samba. I tried my wife's windows desktop, it connects to the desktop running samba. I tried from a Centos 5.4 server/desktop and it connected to the desktop running samba. I tried an arch desktop, guess what? Yeah, it connected So the moral of my story is a MAC OS X 10.6 desktop can't connect with this user but can a different user so I'm going to have to figure that out from the MAC side. After unplugging the speakers and then plugging them in - I got sound for about 10 seconds then it faded out. If I plugged in my headphones, then I got sound through them.
