[Bug 416305] Re: please invert shell prompt and profile.d sections in /etc/profile

2010-01-20 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
I'm afraid that Debian has not replied to this bug whatsoever. I'm
wondering who among the Ubuntu team could have the influence to wake
them up and get them to either agree to the patch or to reject it?

Vete a Sistema >
contestarte antes.

Gracias por hacer que Ubuntu sea mejor

[Bug 507662] Re: Please merge quilt 0.48-4 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

2010-01-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package quilt - 0.48-4ubuntu1

---
quilt (0.48-4ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #507662), remaining changes:
- debian/patches/check_series_is_no_dir: Check that series is not a
  directory (LP: #428657).

quilt (0.48-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Add "ed" to Build-Depends-Indep as it's used by the test-suite.
Closes: #562446

quilt (0.48-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Stop creating files with 000 mode in the .pc directory. Upstream
has changed this in their git repository, so we can update our shell
variant of backup-files accordingly. Closes: #557386, #534840
  * Document the minimal versions for "dh --with quilt" in README.Debian.
Closes: #532127
  * Support QUILT_PATCH_DIR input environment variable in CDBS's
patchsys-quilt.mk. Closes: #517664
  * Update test suite to support newer versions of patch. Cherry-pick patch
from upstream in debian/patches/test-suite-update-for-patch-2.6.
Closes: #560621
  * Update patch test_broken_patches providing test/file-not-found to work
with patch 2.6 but disable it since otherwise the package could not be
compiled with older patch releases.

quilt (0.48-2) unstable; urgency=low

[Bug 510521] Re: Please remove sagemath source and binary from lucid

2010-01-20 Thread Tim Abbott
The Python 2.5 issue is also not very hard to address. But making this
package a good choice for Lucid would require updating the version of
Sage in Debian, which is more work than I (the Debian maintainer) have
time for, and I've had little luck finding volunteers to help.

At least from the past few versions of the source (23.2.9x), the crash
always happened one layer below eval.c line 2311,

Feval.
  args_left = Fcdr (args_left);
  gcpro3.nvars = argnum;
}

Looking at the cons cells of args_left it seems like the first(?) actual
symbol contains an unreadable memory location. But why this is
happening, I don't know. Trigger-happy GC (GCPRO3 is called before this
code block) perhaps? I looked through the entire last_marked array but
didn't see anything that would correlate with anything else that I saw.

Re: [Bug 509018] Re: Sound playback problems since 9.10 Karmic

2010-01-20 Thread beryl14
After upgrades yesterday and today the situation changed. I'm able playback
8-10 mp3 or ogg files from playlist for example qmmp, moc, vlc without any
problem, but after that the symptom is the self-same like before. After
restart I can playback again 8-10 files and afer that the playback problems
begin again.
It was the case with Karmic Koala too, because of that I throwed out that
system totally and was hoping that The Lucid Linx will be better. I'm
disappointed with it too.

[Bug 510523] [NEW] Enter username, then press tab, return, no cancel

2010-01-20 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

If an user list is displayed, click on "Other ...", then enter an user
name, then tab, to switch to then next active key, in this case
"Cancel". Press "Return". Surprisingly you're prompted for a password,
instead of canceling the action.

If no user list is displayed it is the same: enter an user name, then
tab to switch to "Cancel", press "Return" --- and be prompted for a
password instead canceling the action.

Hmm, in your ppa, you added a dependency on automake1.9:
- libxcb-render-util0-dev (>= 0.2+git36-1~), python-support (>= 0.8)
+ libxcb-render-util0-dev (>= 0.2+git36-1~), python-support (>= 0.8),

My guess is that this is the root cause of the FTBFS. Let's wait the

[Bug 494977] Re: XOrg - udev - ThinkPad HDAPS devices configured as mouse

2010-01-20 Thread zigi
It seems to be fixed since xserver-xorg-input-evdev (1:2.3.2-2) release.
In changelog is suggested to use xserver-xorg-input-joystick (for
devices type of joystick) but current available version of xserver-xorg-
input-joystick (1:1.4.0-0ubuntu1) conflicts with xserver-xorg-core

[Bug 510521] [NEW] Please remove sagemath source and binary from lucid

2010-01-20 Thread Scott Kitterman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sagemath

The current sagemath is unbuildable due both to boost1.38 removal and
lack of python2.5 as a supported Python in Lucid.

The boost problem is solvable, but the python2.5 one is not (directly
build-depending on python2.5 does not help).

This package has never made it into Debian Testing and it does not
appear it will be in Squeeze. It should be removed without blacklist in
case it does get fixed.

It has no rdepends.

[Bug 393012] Re: smb: Error while copying file, "Invalid argument"

2010-01-20 Thread Duncan McGreggor
I can confirm that this is still a problem on karmic. I just did a fresh
install in a VM last night, and the only way I can get proper user/group
perms is to use an old smb script that manually mounts the points with
smbmount, passing the standard options:

-o password=$PASS,username=oubiwann,uid=1000,gid=1000

I have tried defining uid/gid in the auto.smb file to no effect; autofs
continues to mount as root.

Here are my current versions:

Ubuntu 9.10
smbclient/smbfs 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.3
autofs 4.1.4+debian-2.1ubuntu2

/me uninstalls autofs and goes back to using manual scripts.

[Bug 510519] [NEW] Sync herrie 2.2-1 (universe) from Debian squeeze (main)

2010-01-20 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Please sync herrie 2.2-1 (universe) from Debian squeeze (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Ubuntu simply had new upstream release which is packaged in Debian now.
It's currently orphaned in Debian, but at least we will be in sync.

Changelog entries since current lucid version 2.2-0ubuntu2:

herrie (2.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA upload.
+ Set maintainer to Debian QA Group .
  * New upstream release. (Closes: #502788).
+ Builds with libspiff 1.0.0. (Closes: #520464).
  * Added quilt patch to build with libxspf (newer libspiff) but
apparently it isn't in Debian yet so don't apply it.
  * Update watch file.
  * Bump Standards Version to 3.8.3.

[Bug 80893] Re: [Feisty] Inaudible audio upon resuming from suspend-to-disk

2010-01-20 Thread Eric Lorenz
SUCCESS!

Thank you for all being paitent with me...it appears that my failure to
read the minucha (sp?) was my downfall. Early on in the notes on this
bug, people talked about shutting down and restarting as opposed to re-
booting. Apparently what my eyes were glossing over was the part about
having to remove the battery, as well as powering down I was reading through the notes ONE
more time tonight to see if I could catch anything else...and I found
that. Did it, and all is well again.

Thanks!

[Bug 117713] Re: WD external drives need to be spun down, "sdparm --command=stop" doesn't work any more

2010-01-20 Thread Alain Kalker
You're welcome :-)

I found just a minor (packaging, policy?) issue for Kubuntu/Xubuntu etc.
users: I don't know if devicekit-disks is officially supported as part
of the desktop task.

For Kubuntu at least (which I don't use myself, please verify what I
say), only the package 'usb-creator-kde' actually has an (indirect)
dependency on the package 'devicekit-disks'. Not a very strong case to
make for saying that Kubuntu "supports" DeviceKit, so I think we should
make sure that including it in non-Gnome desktops doesn't break anything
else.

Kind regards,

Alain

[Bug 510517] [NEW] browser does not display full list of market items in the facebook game "farmtown" - no scroll bars as in the windows version

2010-01-20 Thread socalkev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

In the windows version of firefox, when playing the facebook game
"farmtown", when visiting the market to, say, buy some seeds, a window
pops up with a scroll bar so you can access and buy a number of possible
plant seeds. However, in the linux version of firefox, the store window
is immovable, does not scroll, and only a fraction of the possible seeds
are available to buy. In short, the windows version window is movable
and scrollable, but the linux version is not.

[Bug 510509] [NEW] Notification area is glitchy

[Bug 30378] Re: Joystick activity does not stop the screensaver

2010-01-20 Thread Emmet Hikory
The upstream task has become invalid because upstream has determined
that the best workaround is for joystick using applications to inhibit
screensaver activation directly. In the unlikely event that all games
are ported to use the X joystick interface, it may be appropriate to
revisit the behaviour of gnome-screensaver in the presence of joystick
activity.

For reference, joystick using applications that use SDL are expected to
not activate the screensaver any longer, due to changes in SDL (
http://www.libsdl.org/cgi/viewvc.cgi?view=rev&revision=3558 ).
Applications not using SDL should call XResetScreensaver as appropriate
to avoid screensaver activation.

Note also that the effects of such changes may be unobserved if some
changes to xsync (
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=1f4fb0225b278d1cf4145aebeb0bdd23dc8f62d5
) are not included in the running X server.

I am marking this bug against Ubuntu gnome-screensaver also invalid, for
the same reasoning. Those experiencing this issue are encouraged to
file new bugs against the joystick using packages which fail to inhibit
screensaver activiation. For example, if the behaviour with sauerbraten
mentioned in comment #4 can be reproduced with a recent Ubuntu release,
a bug should be filed against sauerbraten.

[Bug 443330] Re: USB Creator does not warn or ask user to confirm before formatting disks

2010-01-20 Thread Daniel Richard G.
So, you're thinking of a wizard-type approach.

I think dialogs 1 and 2 should be merged; having them separate seems
like just an excuse to require another click. I like dialog 3b better
than 3a, but then that means you're combining the format and install
operations (which wouldn't be a bad idea, just a little out of scope
here).

Dialog 1 and/or 2 should additionally show the device form factor (e.g.
"Secure Digital flash memory card") along with a large icon, as well as
the USB device name (e.g. "JD Firefly") and the size of the device as a
whole. For each partition, show the label (if present), the size, the
and the filesystem type and/or partition type. In other words, show as
much as possible about the disk that is about to get wiped!

[Bug 510506] [NEW] MPEG 2 files continue to play when rhythmbox is paused

2010-01-20 Thread Alex Watson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Although this may be related to bug #242206, I believe it is a separate
issue. When playing music in Rhythmbox everything works fine. However,
if a certain song is played, which I have discovered is MPEG 2 layer 3
audio, when I click pause it will continue playing even though Rhythmbox
shows it is paused. If I click on another song after that it will play
the new song and continue to play the song that is stuck on. I have to
close Rhythmbox to stop the song from playing over other songs. It only
happens with MPEG 2 audio. All of my other songs are MPEG 1 audio mp3s.

Rhythmbox version: 0.12.5
Package version: 0.12.5-0ubuntu5.1

I expected the song to stop when I click Pause.
The song continued playing after I clicked pause, and when I selected another
song it would continue to play in the background over the other song.

[Bug 507233] Re: NVIDIA - Xorg crashes (empty backtrace) with segfault OR "general protection" in ld-2.10.1.so

2010-01-20 Thread Amy Wilson
Hi there, Onigion.

I doubt we will get much in the way of support, because we are being
mighty evil and using a proprietary driver (and I've seen the support
around these places; makes a dedicated supporter cringe), but alas, I am
experiencing the same problem, on the exact same config --- it is
definitely unstable on battery (I've not experienced a crash on AC
power), and one can undergo several crashes after the first (whereupon
it may or may not stop crashing).

[Bug 508218] Re: update-manger crashes with message could not grab mouse

2010-01-20 Thread ginnyh532
I am now running Lucid. Until I updated today, update-manager worked as
it was supposed to. I updated around 10:30 pm MST. When I run sudo
update-manager in the terminal, it works (as I found out it did in
Karmic). Unless I type sudo with the command, it gives an error message
and crashes.

Open Synaptic, find gnome-screensaver, and select it. Then go to the
Package menu and select "Force Version". You should be able to select

After you do this you may have to lock the version (also through the

[Bug 251083] Re: Gedit complains about being unable to make temp backups when saving

2010-01-20 Thread Oliver Joos
I confirm that this is still an issue in Karmic and in Lucid alpha 2.
Typically it occurs when multiple users edit the same file and therefore
make it -rw-rw-rw-. A usecase is a notes.txt that has to be editable
from a Live-CD and your normal account. ;-)

To reproduce:
1 sudo touch /test.txt
2 sudo chmod a+rw /test.txt
3 gedit /test.txt # no sudo here!
4 Change and save test.txt

=> Error about not being able to save a backup even if backups are
disabled in the preferences!

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xvmount

I am running a x86_64 Kubuntu install on Hardy.
Description:Ubuntu 8.04

Just installed xvmount (2010-01-20), and when attempting to launch via the
command line, it provides the following error:
xvmount -h
System warning: No such file or directory, call to alloc function returned NULL
pointer
Segmentation fault

Here is the output of my free command:

Mem: 81747607815180 359580 0 3838362477848

[Bug 404502] Re: [HD 4800] Installed fglrx leads to black screen

2010-01-20 Thread Jim Utter
I performed a clean install of karmic on a lennovo thinkpad t500 and the
detected radeon driver worked just fine but I thought i would try the
restricted driver. Once I installed it and restarted - all I got was a
black screen with a non-blinking cursor in the upper left. I was unable
to switch to any terminals to correct the issue.

I ended up reverting back to the ati driver with the live cd, chroot, and
following the instructions at:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver#Problem:%20%20Need%20to%20fully%20remove%20-fglrx%20and%20reinstall%20-ati%20from%20scratch

I thought I'd report the issue but I'm no longer blocked. Kudos for a great
product. i'll stick with the non-restricted stuff.
Thanks!

jim
