Re: [Bug 509018] Re: Sound playback problems since 9.10 Karmic
After upgrades yesterday and today the situation changed. I'm able playback 8-10 mp3 or ogg files from playlist for example qmmp, moc, vlc without any problem, but after that the symptom is the self-same like before. After restart I can playback again 8-10 files and afer that the playback problems begin again. Here are my current versions: Ubuntu 9.10 smbclient/smbfs 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.3 autofs 4.1.4+debian-2.1ubuntu2 /me uninstalls autofs and goes back to using manual scripts. -- smb: Error while copying file, "Invalid argument" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/393012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 80893] Re: [Feisty] Inaudible audio upon resuming from suspend-to-disk
SUCCESS! Thank you for all being paitent with me...it appears that my failure to read the minucha (sp?) was my downfall. Early on in the notes on this bug, people talked about shutting down and restarting as opposed to re- booting. Apparently what my eyes were glossing over was the part about having to remove the battery, as well as powering down I was reading through the notes ONE more time tonight to see if I could catch anything else...and I found that. [Bug 117713] Re: WD external drives need to be spun down, "sdparm --command=stop" doesn't work any more
You're welcome :-) I found just a minor (packaging, policy?) issue for Kubuntu/Xubuntu etc. users: I don't know if devicekit-disks is officially supported as part of the desktop task. For Kubuntu at least (which I don't use myself, please verify what I say), only the package 'usb-creator-kde' actually has an (indirect) dependency on the package 'devicekit-disks'. Not a very strong case to make for saying that Kubuntu "supports" DeviceKit, so I think we should make sure that including it in non-Gnome desktops doesn't break anything else. [Bug 510517] [NEW] browser does not display full list of market items in the facebook game "farmtown" - no scroll bars as in the windows version
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.5 In the windows version of firefox, when playing the facebook game "farmtown", when visiting the market to, say, buy some seeds, a window pops up with a scroll bar so you can access and buy a number of possible plant seeds. However, in the linux version of firefox, the store window is immovable, does not scroll, and only a fraction of the possible seeds are available to buy. [Bug 30378] Re: Joystick activity does not stop the screensaver
The upstream task has become invalid because upstream has determined that the best workaround is for joystick using applications to inhibit screensaver activation directly. In the unlikely event that all games are ported to use the X joystick interface, it may be appropriate to revisit the behaviour of gnome-screensaver in the presence of joystick activity. For reference, joystick using applications that use SDL are expected to not activate the screensaver any longer, due to changes in SDL ( http://www.libsdl.org/cgi/viewvc.cgi?view=rev&revision=3558 ). Applications not using SDL should call XResetScreensaver as appropriate to avoid screensaver activation. Note also that the effects of such changes may be unobserved if some changes to xsync ( http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=1f4fb0225b278d1cf4145aebeb0bdd23dc8f62d5 ) are not included in the running X server. I am marking this bug against Ubuntu gnome-screensaver also invalid, for the same reasoning. Those experiencing this issue are encouraged to file new bugs against the joystick using packages which fail to inhibit screensaver activiation. [Bug 443330] Re: USB Creator does not warn or ask user to confirm before formatting disks
So, you're thinking of a wizard-type approach. I think dialogs 1 and 2 should be merged; having them separate seems like just an excuse to require another click. I like dialog 3b better than 3a, but then that means you're combining the format and install operations (which wouldn't be a bad idea, just a little out of scope here). Dialog 1 and/or 2 should additionally show the device form factor (e.g. "Secure Digital flash memory card") along with a large icon, as well as the USB device name (e.g. "JD Firefly") and the size of the device as a whole. For each partition, show the label (if present), the size, the and the filesystem type and/or partition type. In other words, show as much as possible about the disk that is about to get wiped! -- USB Creator does not warn or ask user to confirm before formatting disks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/443330 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 510506] [NEW] MPEG 2 files continue to play when rhythmbox is paused
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Although this may be related to bug #242206, I believe it is a separate issue. When playing music in Rhythmbox everything works fine. However, if a certain song is played, which I have discovered is MPEG 2 layer 3 audio, when I click pause it will continue playing even though Rhythmbox shows it is paused. If I click on another song after that it will play the new song and continue to play the song that is stuck on. I have to close Rhythmbox to stop the song from playing over other songs. It only happens with MPEG 2 audio. All of my other songs are MPEG 1 audio mp3s. Rhythmbox version: 0.12.5 Package version: 0.12.5-0ubuntu5.1 I expected the song to stop when I click Pause. The song continued playing after I clicked pause, and when I selected another song it would continue to play in the background over the other song. ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- MPEG 2 files continue to play when rhythmbox is paused https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/510506 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 428884] Re: gnome-screensaver-command --poke no longer inhibits screensaver
Open Synaptic, find gnome-screensaver, and select it. Then go to the Package menu and select "Force Version". You should be able to select the previous version of the package. After you do this you may have to lock the version (also through the package menu) so that it doesn't bug you to upgrade it. -- gnome-screensaver-command --poke no longer inhibits screensaver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428884 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 251083] Re: Gedit complains about being unable to make temp backups when saving
I confirm that this is still an issue in Karmic and in Lucid alpha 2. Typically it occurs when multiple users edit the same file and therefore make it -rw-rw-rw-. A usecase is a notes.txt that has to be editable from a Live-CD and your normal account. ;-) To reproduce: 1 sudo touch /test.txt 2 sudo chmod a+rw /test.txt 3 gedit /test.txt # no sudo here! 4 Change and save test.txt => Error about not being able to save a backup even if backups are disabled in the preferences! -- Gedit complains about being unable to make temp backups when saving https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/251083 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

No problem, this whole distinction between invalid and fixed released is all just semantics anyway. I thought it was more appropriate as invalid since it was never really fully confirmed, but it really doesn't matter. [Bug 404502] Re: [HD 4800] Installed fglrx leads to black screen
I performed a clean install of karmic on a lennovo thinkpad t500 and the detected radeon driver worked just fine but I thought i would try the restricted driver. Once I installed it and restarted - all I got was a black screen with a non-blinking cursor in the upper left. I was unable to switch to any terminals to correct the issue. I ended up reverting back to the ati driver with the live cd, chroot, and following the instructions at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver#Problem:%20%20Need%20to%20fully%20remove%20-fglrx%20and%20reinstall%20-ati%20from%20scratch I thought I'd report the issue but I'm no longer blocked. Kudos for a great product. i'll stick with the non-restricted stuff.
