[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-05-21 Thread ralemi
@rupert and Christian: Sorry guys, but what do you mean "it can
effectively lock an inexperienced user in to their system with no way of
exiting"? All one has to do is press CTRL-ALT-DEL and the shutdown
window will pop up. if "Ubuntu is also aimed at the average non-techie
user coming from Windows" then that user knows of the key combination
and will instinctively try it right away.

Cheers,
Rex

[Bug 584099] [NEW] It takes two clicks to close the Getting Things GNOME! window

2010-05-21 Thread Murrquan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtg

PROBLEM

Clicking on the 'X' in the upper-left corner of the Getting Things
GNOME! window does not close it. It takes two clicks to make it
disappear.

HOW TO REPRODUCE

1. Activate the notification area plugin.
2. Set GTG to load on startup, in the notification area.
3. Launch Getting Things GNOME! from the Applications menu, Docky or Do
(probably any method other than clicking the notification area icon and
selecting "View Main Window," although those three were tested).
4. Attempt to close the GTG window by clicking on the 'X' in the upper-left
hand corner.
5. Note that the window is still open.
6. Click on the 'X' a second time to close the window.

Steps 1 and 2 may not be required to reproduce the bug, but are included
here for completeness.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

Only one click is required to close any window, unless it creates a pop-
up asking for confirmation.

[Bug 215541] Re: Imap mail Filtering broken as of 11/04/08

2010-05-21 Thread David Clayton
Ok, more information.

I renamed my existing .evolution profile, let Evolution create a fresh
one and the IMAP filtering works as expected (as described above in the
other posts).

I then renamed the folders to get my existing data back, and then found
it was now IMAP filtering as expected - bizarre!

I have also found that changing the IMAP Inbox filtering option only
takes effect after shutting down and restarting the Evolution client.

[Bug 578167] Re: [i845g] Blank screen problem on login, logout, power savings mode, tty switch etc

2010-05-21 Thread Rob Glenn
I also have these symptoms on my Inspiron 1100.

When comparing X logs from a successful boot and one that came up blank,
I noticed the following difference:

< (II) intel(0): Output VGA connected
---
> (II) intel(0): Output VGA disconnected

Note that nothing was connected to the VGA output in either case.
(anybody know how to configure X so that it ignores the external monitor
connector?)

As an experiment, another time it came up blank I tried connecting an
external monitor and the login screen appeared on the external monitor
and I was able to log in! However, there were still problems such as no
mouse pointer.

I also discovered that it is possible to (eventually) get a virtual
console on the laptop display by randomly banging on ctrl-alt-(F1-F6)
until one appears.

None of this has anything to do with the looping/vertical lines
problem. I still observe that as reported in the bug.

[Bug 575143] Re: Sheet names area is too narrow when opening an Excel spreadsheet

2010-05-21 Thread Alexey Kotlyarov
I've switched to a guest user. Now this file:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/47792962/empty-sheet.xls
opens fine _the first time_, but if I open it again, I only see "t" from the
first sheet. If I remove the .openoffice.org directory, I can open it fine
again - once.

In a newly created file there is space for approximately 4 sheets, but
when I open it, I see only 2.5 of 3.

Finally, a (hopefully reproducible) way:
1. Login as guest, remove .openoffice.org if it exists.
2. Create a new file, put something in the first cell.
3. Rename sheets to "test1", "test2" and "test3".
4. Save as test.xls.
5. Close OO, remove .openoffice.org.
6. Open test.xls - there's space for approx. 4 sheets.
7. Close, open again - 2 and a half visible.
8. Remove .openoffice.org, open again - space for 4 sheets.

occur if I only boot the laptop momentarily. For instance, just to
perform a quick email check then power off.

[Bug 584095] [NEW] Evolution takes way too long to setup

2010-05-21 Thread Murrquan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

PROBLEM

To set up Evolution with a webmail account, I click through a half-dozen
screens filled with technical jargon and options I don't understand.

HOW TO REPRODUCE

1. Perform a fresh installation of Evolution (all user settings removed).
2. Run Evolution for the first time.

If step 2 does not reproduce the bug, ask a non-technical friend or
family member to perform steps 1 and 2, and ask him or her if he or she
encounters it.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

Evolution, like other software packages on the default Ubuntu desktop,
will have limited options but sane defaults. It will not be confusing or
intimidating to set up, and the average nontechnical user will be able
to get it to connect to his or her webmail account without assistance.

[Bug 200813] Re: scim deinstallation breaks dead-key support

2010-05-21 Thread benditoelqueviene
Salut. I've tried both Karmic and Lucid with Wubi in Windows XP in
Latinamerican Spanish. Keyboard works fine with all applications, _except_
Skype and Opera 10.01. In them i can use Ñ and ñ (tilde n) but not tilde
vowels (á é í ó ú). In Spanish they are vital, but you can understand many
things in a chat. In Opera i tried any posibility: font type, size,
language... And it worked the same.
The latest update in Opera resolve it, i don't know how. Skype haven't made
any serious updating, it works wrong since the beginning because it had always
been the same application (in Karmic and Lucid).
I won't make any serious change in my system just for an application knowing
that it will affect all the rest that work fine (OpenOffice and Gedit, for
example). Now, in Lucid, i discovered a new "leg" of the bug: keyboard works
well in Firefox but, if i open a secondary window, like a popup writing e-mail
in GMail, it works exactly as in the old Opera and Skype. In the main window,
accented vowels work perfectly. I don't want this to be contagious!!!
I don't remember well, but it was the same in Jaunty and Hardy. So, please,
solve it before it expands!!

[Bug 584092] [NEW] Won't burn bluray (BD-R)

2010-05-21 Thread Matthew Geier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

Unable to burn BD-R 'data' disk.
Add files up to just short of 23.3GB capacity that K3B read from the medium.

Burn never starts as the 'Please insert an empty medium of size 23.3Gb
or larger' dialogue appears.

K3b's own 'Media Info' function correctly identifiers the blank as
having 23.3Gb of space available.

Creating an ISO image then trying to use the burn ISO tool results in
the same message.

Suspect underlying tool issue as other burning GUI's fail.

growisofs -Z burned the image, so not a hardware issue.

[Bug 215541] Re: Imap mail Filtering broken as of 11/04/08

2010-05-21 Thread David Clayton
Ok, this is still an issue on Ubuntu 10.04 Evolution 2.28.3 on existing
Evolution profiles upgraded from earlier releases.

I have created a fresh profile on a different user and the IMAP
filtering works, but on my existing system that has been preserved in a
separate /home partition through numerous upgrades it will not filter on
IMAP e-mails as the OP has described.

Most people will be using upgraded systems and not creating a fresh
Evolution profile every time a new version comes along, so there needs
to be a proper resolution to this with someone taking the time to find
the invalid configuration item that is causing this issue.

Trying to compile this file:

\documentclass[a4paper]{scrbook}
\usepackage{ngerman}
\usepackage[latin1]{inputenc}

\end{document}

ends up with this error message (also have a look at the attached log
file):

ngerman -- \language number for ngerman undefined, default 255 used,
ngerman -- Please read "gerdoc.tex" how to install hyphenation patterns.)

Package "texlive-lang-german" is already installed, ngerman.sty is
located within the user's texmf-folder. texconfig rehash has been run.
Maybe it's interesting that folder /etc/texmf/language.d/ is completely
empty (and I think it shouldn't).

[Bug 559579] Re: Thick border appears hollow in Print Preview

2010-05-21 Thread jimav
Yep, the hollw line appears every time. It looks just like the
screenshot in post#2.

Removing $HOME/{.ooo3,.openoffice.org,.openoffice.org2} makes no
difference.

Maybe it has to do with the fonts installed on my system, or the screen
resolution (1920x1200).
I'm going to do a new clean install in a VM and try the file there. That
should eliminate any special fonts, and I can easily vary the screen res. Will
post results when I have them.

*  ssh in from remote
* delete existing /etc/X11/xorg.conf (this step may not have been needed)
* download from nvidia.com the NVIDIA-Linux-*.run for your hardware and
copy it to your PC (I did it with a second PC and transfered via scp)
* run the NVIDIA-Linux-*.run
* Follow the instructions
* reboot

[Bug 474992] Re: Named reference to current column does not work in Conditional Formats

2010-05-21 Thread jimav
After re-reading this it looks bogus -- column labels were confused with cell
labels (to be precise, I confused them).
If I were a toker I'd assume I was smoking something that day...

Marking invalid.

Just checked it again on a different computer with Ubuntu 10.04. This
issue is definitely still happening.

[Bug 584087] [NEW] Sync aptoncd 0.1.98+bzr117-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-05-21 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Public bug reported:

Please sync aptoncd 0.1.98+bzr117-1 (universe) from Debian unstable
(main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Debian package is based on the Ubuntu one, as seen in the changelog.

Changelog entries since current maverick version 0.1.98+bzr115-0ubuntu1:

aptoncd (0.1.98+bzr117-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- Using a better theme color to show old packages.
- Updated for python-apt 0.8 API (Closes: #572076)
- Also fix the "gtk.HBox has no attribute" crash (Closes: #581645)
  * debian/rules:
- updated the get-orig-source target to delete the +bzr part of the version.
- Deletes empty directory before they go into the deb
- deleted unused REPOS_VERSION variable
  * Switch to dpkg-source 3.0 (quilt) format
  * fix-desktop-file.patch: Convert direct changes to data/aptoncd.desktop.in
to a patch and fix another validation warning in Categories
  * debian/control:
- Bump standard-versions to 3.8.4. No changes required.
- Changed build-dependency on python-all-dev to python-all
  * Deleted useless debian/dirs file
  * debian/docs: do not install empty README file.

[Bug 522979] Re: openoffice filemenu fonts not system's

2010-05-21 Thread Kevin Hunter
No. Well, it's not the same font as the Application menu, but it's not
"tinny" anymore. I want to say it has something to with whether or not
OpenOffice is using the font rendering engine (Cairo?) as the rest of
the system, nut I know not of what I speak. From an engineering
perspective, it'd probably be easier overall if it were, but it doesn't
really matter from the end-user perspective of this bug. I'd say this
is fixed since Alpha-2.

Thanks for your bug-work, Chris.

[Bug 543506] Re: Some services not started on boot, runlevel returns "unknown"

2010-05-21 Thread Steve Fraser
After fault-finding for a couple of days I came across this thread, and
realised I was experiencing the same problem. My system was upgraded from
Koala, but I'm sure the problem did not occur until some time after the upgrade
(ie after an update). I've done a "quick'n'dirty" fix that fixes it by having
upstart run a "telinit 2" 90 seconds after booting (details below) - so it
appears that init never sees the entry into run level 2 (and its not in utmp?)
and so doesnt fire off the relevant jobs. In my case, atd (from upstart) and
cups (from System-V rc2.d) were failing (as well as others). Here's some output
which shows what's happening:

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: openoffice.org

In Print Preview, a thick (4 point) border sometimes appears hollow (two
very thin lines separated by a thick white space).

Attached is a demo .ods file and screen-shot.

Notice that the problem is only in the first instance of the border, not
consistently. Maybe it has to do with the previous row somehow.

[Bug 562477] Re: [upstream] Export to PDF adheres to print range even when empty whereas Print does not

2010-05-21 Thread jimav
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: openoffice.org

File->Export To PDF sometimes appends thousands of empty pages
(containing only header & footer text).

The problem appears to be that if you do
Format->Print Ranges->Edit, and set the print range to $A$2:$C$65535
then the PDF generator will unconditionally format all 65534 rows, even
though only the first few rows have any data.

This is only a problem is with PDF generation. Printing and print-preview do
not include trailing empty rows.

  DEMO:
Open the attached demo file. Print or look atPrint Preview, and note that
only 6 pages are present.
Now Export To PDF; the resulting PDF file has 1338 pages.

[Bug 570129] Re: fails to synchronise basic setup

2010-05-21 Thread Matthew In Randwick
Nope no joy.

I followed these steps and then added an empty directory the Ubuntu One
folder in nautilus. That synchronised.

Then I copied a folder with two files into the directory. The Ubuntu One
preferences says "Synchronisation Complete", but the folder icon still
has the grey two arrows indicating it is not synchronised yet. Looks
like the Ubuntu One client is getting into an inconsistent state -- it's
either synchronised or not right?

Think I might wait a few releases for this...

[Bug 380596] Re: linphone crashes in startup

2010-05-21 Thread Tommy Trussell
since there seems to be a packaging problem in linphone AND a new
version of linphone was recently released, one alternative to fixing
this might be getting the new version properly backported to 10.4 Lucid.

[Bug 582879] Re: Merge database does not work

2010-05-21 Thread John Hall
I can confirm this bug in 9.10. I could be fixed in 10.04 or in the dev distro
branch. A back port would be nice. There coudl be an upstream patch, plugin or
scirpt that could solve the problem.
Possilbe work around solutions:
Hide db files, or hints through renaming or moving of special files to get the
photos to merge.
Write a script that merges the two databases and directory trees.
Change the directory f-spot uses in preferences to the old, mobile, or smaller
database. If the old database and photos come up then export them then switch
back to the main database and re-import.

Other ideas:
Photos from many cameras and certainly most d-slrs often have serialized
numbers which could be used along with file fingerprints to identify a new
source location automagically. This should be a feature of the main program
but it could be a plug-in using createdb and locate to index and find photos
and heal the database when photos exist as only data and thumbnails. The same
plugin could offer another view to see all photos on the system or in specified
file trees without interacting with the database.

[Bug 583689] Re: Machine sometimes crash and sometimes not ... bug bug is there.

2010-05-21 Thread Jeremy Foshee
[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately.]

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely
should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are
automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the
appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

If this bug really is a bug in the linux-meta package you can move it
back to linux-meta and tag it kj-linux-meta, or contact us on the
#ubuntu-kernel channel on the FreeNode IRC server. Thanks.

[Bug 380596] Re: linphone crashes in startup

2010-05-21 Thread Tommy Trussell
strangely enough, I installed and used linphone with no problems today
under Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic, but I get the crash under 10.4 Lucid on this
netbook. I tried the workaround in Bug #352339 with no improvement.

I also noticed several additional strangenesses:

1) the linphone command in the terminal does not work. I get a message
saying

t...@eee-aem:~$ linphone
No command 'linphone' found, did you mean:
Command 'linphonec' from package 'linphone-nox' (universe)
linphone: command not found

2) The linphone man page seems to be in some language other than
English:

t...@eee-aem:~$ man --pager= linphone

[Bug 548692] Re: ttf-opensymbol package grows 6x in size (1.5Mb) in Ubuntu 10.04 because of included OOo changelog.gz

2010-05-21 Thread Chris Cheney
This appears to be on the CD so it would be very useful to remove the
extra overhead. It can't be symlinked since ttf-opensymbol would then
need to depend on that package it linked to, but complete removal is
probably ok for this case.
