[Bug 589297] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1 .41-3ubuntu12.1 failed to install/upgrade: Le paquet est dans un état incohérent - vous devriez le réinstaller avant d'essayer de le supprimer.

2010-06-05 Thread mikaelkael
Thanks Jean-Baptiste, but I have same problem as Ben. When I try:
$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall mysql-server-5.1
It's always stop without return just after:
Preparing to replace mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.1 (using
.../mysql-server-5.1_5.1.41-3ubuntu12.1_amd64.deb) ...

It's seems that the problem appears during the pre-removal process, I manually
did a:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop
// and not a:
$ sudo stop mysql

And I after I did:
$ sudo dpkg --purge --force-all mysql-server-5.1

And now It's OK

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

2010-06-05 Thread fred.albrecht
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 528720 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528720

I have a somewhat similar problem here where X11 becomes unresponsive. I
mostly run in KDE though.

The mouse cursor still moves but mouse events don't seem to register and
the keyboard appears dead although I manage to kill X with C-A-Bsp.

The problem is apparently linked to Firefox but only seems to appear
with some websites (Reddit seems to be a major culprit, but of course
one of the numerous sites it links to could be the source as well). I'm
trying to gather more data.

Not sure if this is the best place to report, I may have to create a new
bug (and some keys die inexplicably as well, g did just now, I have to
cut and paste it :( ).

[Bug 590104] [NEW] ace domain format not allowed for .de nameservers

2010-06-05 Thread Manuel Domke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: whois

Hi,
The whois client has a new feature(partially bug) (since Ubuntu 10.04), which
converts domain names with special characters to the so called ace format
(müller.de -- xn--mller-kva.de)

The DENIC whois servers only accept domain ace's when the parameter -T
ace (only in combination: -T dn,ace or -T dn,st).

So, now when asking for the domain name müller.de you get the message
that that domain name is valid, even if its registered.

As I could figure out, this problem is part of the whois since version
4.7. I'd recommend turning off that idn2ace conversion to solve the
problem..

[Bug 590201] [NEW] OpenSolaris (previously working) no longer boots: kernel panics early

-name OpenSolaris_vm1 /home/my acct/VM/OpenSolaris_vm1

Running OpenSolaris had been a qualified success (no usb, unusable w/ cpu  1;
otherwise OK).
Now, after passing OpenSolaris' grub menu the (OSAL) kernel panics; kvm spins.

I can boot (this same machine) into Ubuntu 9.10, which has not had the latest
security updates,
and with that the OpenSolaris VM works as expected.

This Ubuntu 10.04 has had all package updates (including recent kernel security
issue). Sorry,
but I have not tried to start the OpenSolaris VM for some time, so I cannot
associate the
problem with a particular update. It *did* work with the fresh 10.04 install
(after changing -soundhw
to work around cpu hogging).

Working with this system: Ubuntu 10.04 Server 32 bit; Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop 64
bit;
MS Vista 32 bit; Plan9

[Bug 589997] [NEW] apport generates bugs that keep getting rejected

2010-06-05 Thread DAP
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

apport keeps generating bug reports that get rejected because the
lastest packages are claimed to be not current.

This is the latest reject:

Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate an useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

libpam-modules: installed version 1.1.1-2ubuntu3, latest version: 1.1.1-2ubuntu2
libpam0g: installed version 1.1.1-2ubuntu3, latest version: 1.1.1-2ubuntu2

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

The rejection is useless because I cannot upgrade to an older version of the
package.
Please tell me how to get the correct symbols for these packages so useful core
dumps will be generated, and add this information to the rejection notice above!

[Bug 589377] Re: when changing the background colors of the theme Ambiance, the window buttons change side (into the right) automatically

2010-06-05 Thread David Ly-Gagnon
Thanks for your quick reply BG.
I can now confirm the bug. I think the source of the bug is compiz since the
bug appears in any window, not just from Firefox.
I am using compiz:1:0.8.4-0ubuntu15.

The following steps can be used to reproduce the bug:
1. In the Control Panel, click on System-Preferences-Apperance (it opens
Apperance Preference window).
2. From the Theme tab, select Ambiance
3. At the bottom, click on Customize (it opens Customize Theme window)
4. From the Colours tab, click on the colour button of Windows and Background
and set the color name to anything else, e.g.: #231D11.
5. Select OK to apply the new colour. This will create a new custom theme based
on the Ambiance theme.
6. Click Save As button located at the bottom of the Appearance Preferences
Window.
7. Give it a new name, e.g.: custom_theme. and click Save.
At this point, the close, maximize, and minimize buttons appears on the top
left side of the window.
8. Now, change back to the Ambiance theme.
9. Change back to the custom_theme.
10. Observe where the close, maximize and minimize buttons are located. I can
see they are now on the right.

Actual output: The close, maximize and minimize buttons are located on the
right side of the window.
Expected output: The close, maximize and minimze buttons should be located on
the left side of the window.

I am setting the status to confirmed.

Thank you,

[Bug 588615] Re: Ubuntu Lucid Cannot Restart or Shutdown

2010-06-05 Thread pramathesh ambasta
This is to confirm that this dead serious. Immediately after install, I
remember being able to shutdown at least once using the indicator applet
shutdown menu option. But ever since, there has not been a single
instance when I have been able to shutdown or restart through that
route.

An additional piece of information is that desktop computers don't seem
to display this problem. They are able to shutdown/restart normally. But
it does seem to plague notebooks. Another notebook computer (Toshiba
Satellite) faces the same problem.

I would say that while at one level this may seem not such a serious
problem, but it is serious enough to stop me from switching other users
to Ubuntu, much as I would like to, because I don't see them taking this
opening terminal typing sudo halt business lightly.

Is an early solution within sight?

[Bug 590000] [NEW] firefox hangs for the duration adobe-flash-plugin is being installed

Bug Description

On firefox, when a site containing flash was opened, the usual popup suggesting
to install missing plugins appeared. When I clicked the searh/install button,
the plugin finder service launched as expected and suggested some options of
available flash plugins. When I tried to install the Adobe flash plugin
(which was one of the listed options), the firefox screen froze until the
plugin was downloaded and actually installed. In parallel, another window
appeared suggesting that I either Force Quit the application or Wait
further (I obviously waited ;-) ).

This is probably more of a annoyance than a bug, but should be corrected
nevertheless.

[Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-06-05 Thread Tim Hallett
Let me see if I understand
We have a fixed kernel for i845 that has never successfully booted a
machine...
The Intel corporate team officially leading the fix have contributed no code
since this bug was released in January...
All the workarounds proposed involve removing fairly major areas of
functionality, and don't seem to work anyway

I have an i845 machine and would be happy to perform tests, but is there
anything right now worth testing?

[Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-06-05 Thread Aether
I think I have the same problem - for me X crashes and even restarting
kdm doesn't fix it. Running linux image 2.6.32-22 on a Dell Inspiron
mini 10v with an i915. Interestingly enough an Arch linux user reports
a fix by starting X later in the boot process
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=94206

It sounds a lot like my issue but not sure how to try similar in ubuntu.
I see the same things the Arch linux user does - it drops back to text
on vty2 rather than vty7. I've tried the patch and I've tried turning
off KMS, none of which help the issue.

[Bug 492782] Re: Mouse cursor disappears after restarting screen (xrandr / resume)

I am also bugged with this issue when I suspend to ram and then resume.
As in the above reports ctrl+f1, ctrl+f7 fixes the problem as does
typing in a text document as well as changing the workspace with
ctrl+alt+cursor.

Running latest lucid Linux with FOSS ati drivers and newest kernel:
2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 22:02:19 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I am using a Thinkpad T43p with ATI Mobility FireGL V3200 graphic card.

The above mentioned workaround does the job for me, thanks.

Please let me know if there is more useful information that I may be
able provide.

I can not install or gain an internet connection via my mobile intenet
modem. I have followed the prompts in the installation guides but with
no success. The modem lights turn the right colours but seem to be
detected as storage and not as modems. The modem software does not seem
to start up on its own. I can not start the software through Ubuntu.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 Laptop

[Bug 577997] Re: Xorg freeze after switch user applet is invoked

2010-06-05 Thread Adrian Popa
I'm not sure if it's exactly the same bug, but when my X crashes (I have two
displays), I can see the mouse pointer jumping violently between the edges of
the two screens. I am not using user-switcher - I am just using desktop
applications (some terminals, firefox, thunderbird and a touch of java).
I can't be 100% sure, but the problem appeared after installing (and rebooting
to) the new kernel 2.6.32-22-generic.
I have the binary Nvidia drivers, but they haven't been a problem so far.

I will try to see if the bug reproduces with the previous kernel (I have
only upgraded to 10.04 for 4 days, so my previous experience might not
be concusive).

The end of my Xorg.log file is:

[Bug 581886] Re: PackageKit does not respect hold state of packages.

2010-06-05 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
The apt backend performs a safe upgrade by default and additionally
tries to detect upgrades which would only require the installation of
further packages but not the removal of those.

This methods makes it impossible to detect packages which are set on
hold on the dpkg level, since apt doesn't provide information why an
upgrade was skipped from the safe upgrade.

The aptcc backend doesn't perform a safe upgrade but a full upgrade to
detect the updates. Since there isn't any simulate method for a system
upgrade it is very dangerous of the aptcc backend to report upgrades as
installable without having the possibilty to inform the user about the
required removal of packages.

The best fix would be to have a simualte method for the upgrade_system
method.

 Bug description:
Wireless had been flaky with Karmic (2-3 MB/s with interruptions, sometimes
slows down). Now in 10.04 the wireless is still flaky but (connection losses)
and much slower. The maximum data rate now is between 100-300 kb/s. So it
 actually got worse after upgrading.

I assume this is a kernel driver issue.

[Bug 589769] Re: cannot add computer after downgrading back to Ubuntu 9.10

2010-06-05 Thread Mitch Towner
I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working properly for you. If you
would like to help debug the problem that would be greatly appreciated.
You can do the following in order to provide important details that will
help determine the root cause of this issue.

1) Quit the Ubuntu One client. Right-click on the Ubuntu One applet and select
'Quit'

2) Open Applications-Accessories-Terminal, then run the command:
mv ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log_old mkdir
~/.cache/ubuntuone/log

3) Run the following in the Terminal to open/create this file:
gedit ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf

#Add the following two (2) lines to this file and save:
[__main__]
log_level = DEBUG

4) Open Ubuntu One Applications-Internet-Ubuntu One

5) Let Ubuntu One run for a while, copy some files into your Ubuntu One Folder.
Then attach your ubuntuone logs to this bug. Please zip your
$HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/ folder and attach the zip here.

You can attach logs to this bug report by clicking the 'Add Attachment
or patch' button at the bottom of the page. Thank you for filing this
bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org

2010-06-05 Thread VPablo
I had not installed binary from NVidia so I only updated with Synaptic.
It will update both nvidia-settings and drivers from 195 to 256.

Later I will test vino with compiz active.

[Bug 532436] Re: nvidia driver sometime does not load at boot

2010-06-05 Thread VPablo
I had installed 256 drivers from x-swat PPA and in two times I have
booted I had no problems:

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates

Please test.

And update kernel to 2.6.32-22.36 (if it will be the solution for this
bug).

[Bug 587455] Re: Toshiba Satellite P200-1EE hangs on suspend

2010-06-05 Thread WickedMonkey
Hi Jeremy,

I applied the latest updates this morning including, I think, a kernel
update (is this what you mean?). The hang still happens.

Note: This issue seems to occur on *every third* suspend action. I just
tested this twice and my laptop hung on the third suspend twice in a
row.

Thanks.

[Bug 467997] Re: Gnome add to panel add (custom) Menu Bar | icon size is too big!

2010-06-05 Thread chelz
I encountered this issue and found this bug searching for a solution. I
have just upgraded from 8.10 Intrepid to 9.04 Jaunty then to 9.10
Karmic. I didn't notice if this issue was present on Jaunty, but it
definitely is on Karmic.

After a bunch of trial and error, I have a workaround of three short and simple
commands:

sudo mv /usr/share/icons/Tangerine/icon-theme.cache
/usr/share/icons/Tangerine/icon-theme.cache.1
sudo mv /usr/share/icons/Tangerine/32x32/places/start-here.png
/usr/share/icons/Tangerine/32x32/places/start-here.png.1
killall gnome-panel

You might get a file not found error if the file icon-theme.cache
doesn't exist, this is fine, but you probably won't. Sudo is only needed
for the first two.

My testing consisted of copying everything from
/usr/share/icons/Tangerine into another folder in /usr/share/icons,
selecting that icon theme, then deleting the *start-here* files (as in
find /usr/share/icons/Tangerine -iname *start-here*) and running
killall gnome-panel after each delete to see if it did anything. You can
actually remove all of the *start-here* files and somehow still have
those icons present in the Menu Bar (A custom menu bar) applet but
they'll not be in the Main Menu (The main GNOME menu) applet; the
only file that changes anything is the 32x32 png one. The issue is
definitely around that file. If other themes are having this issue,
perhaps this solution could work for them too.

Here's some info about my system:

[Bug 370061] Re: SVG not correctly rendered

2010-06-05 Thread Louis Simard
Thanks for having reported this bug and making Ubuntu better!

This was an upstream (GNOME) problem, which has been re-reported
independently yesterday; I happened to need it fixed today. What a
coincidence! :)

Anyway, I attached a patch, which is also attached in the upstream GNOME
bug. Please test it and give feedback in the upstream GNOME bug.
