[Bug 589297] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1 .41-3ubuntu12.1 failed to install/upgrade: Le paquet est dans un état incohérent - vous devriez le réinstaller avant d'essayer de le supprimer.
Thanks Jean-Baptiste, but I have same problem as Ben. When I try: $ sudo apt-get install --reinstall mysql-server-5.1 It's always stop without return just after: Preparing to replace mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.1 (using .../mysql-server-5.1_5.1.41-3ubuntu12.1_amd64.deb) ... It's seems that the problem appears during the pre-removal process, I manually did a: $ sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop // and not a: $ sudo stop mysql And I after I did: $ sudo dpkg --purge --force-all mysql-server-5.1 And now It's OK -- package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.1 failed to install/upgrade: Le paquet est dans un état incohérent - vous devriez le réinstaller avant d'essayer de le supprimer. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/589297 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.1 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 528720 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/528720 I have a somewhat similar problem here where X11 becomes unresponsive. I mostly run in KDE though. The mouse cursor still moves but mouse events don't seem to register and the keyboard appears dead although I manage to kill X with C-A-Bsp. The problem is apparently linked to Firefox but only seems to appear with some websites (Reddit seems to be a major culprit, but of course one of the numerous sites it links to could be the source as well). I'm trying to gather more data. Not sure if this is the best place to report, I may have to create a new bug (and some keys die inexplicably as well, g did just now, I have to cut and paste it :( ). -- keyboard and/or mouse freezing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577183 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to irqbalance in ubuntu (via bug 528720). -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 590104] [NEW] ace domain format not allowed for .de nameservers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: whois Hi, The whois client has a new feature(partially bug) (since Ubuntu 10.04), which converts domain names with special characters to the so called ace format (müller.de -- xn--mller-kva.de) The DENIC whois servers only accept domain ace's when the parameter -T ace (only in combination: -T dn,ace or -T dn,st). [Bug 589377] Re: when changing the background colors of the theme Ambiance, the window buttons change side (into the right) automatically
Thanks for your quick reply BG. I can now confirm the bug. I think the source of the bug is compiz since the bug appears in any window, not just from Firefox. I am using compiz:1:0.8.4-0ubuntu15. The following steps can be used to reproduce the bug: 1. In the Control Panel, click on System-Preferences-Apperance (it opens Apperance Preference window). 2. From the Theme tab, select Ambiance 3. At the bottom, click on Customize (it opens Customize Theme window) 4. From the Colours tab, click on the colour button of Windows and Background and set the color name to anything else, e.g.: #231D11. 5. Select OK to apply the new colour. This will create a new custom theme based on the Ambiance theme. 6. Click Save As button located at the bottom of the Appearance Preferences Window. 7. Give it a new name, e.g.: custom_theme. and click Save. At this point, the close, maximize, and minimize buttons appears on the top left side of the window. 8. Now, change back to the Ambiance theme. 9. Change back to the custom_theme. 10. Observe where the close, maximize and minimize buttons are located. I can see they are now on the right. Actual output: The close, maximize and minimize buttons are located on the right side of the window. Expected output: The close, maximize and minimze buttons should be located on the left side of the window. I am setting the status to confirmed. [Bug 588615] Re: Ubuntu Lucid Cannot Restart or Shutdown
This is to confirm that this dead serious. Immediately after install, I remember being able to shutdown at least once using the indicator applet shutdown menu option. But ever since, there has not been a single instance when I have been able to shutdown or restart through that route. An additional piece of information is that desktop computers don't seem to display this problem. They are able to shutdown/restart normally. But it does seem to plague notebooks. Another notebook computer (Toshiba Satellite) faces the same problem. I would say that while at one level this may seem not such a serious problem, but it is serious enough to stop me from switching other users to Ubuntu, much as I would like to, because I don't see them taking this opening terminal typing sudo halt business lightly. [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
I think I have the same problem - for me X crashes and even restarting kdm doesn't fix it. Running linux image 2.6.32-22 on a Dell Inspiron mini 10v with an i915. Interestingly enough an Arch linux user reports a fix by starting X later in the boot process http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=94206 It sounds a lot like my issue but not sure how to try similar in ubuntu. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same bug, but when my X crashes (I have two displays), I can see the mouse pointer jumping violently between the edges of the two screens. [Bug 581886] Re: PackageKit does not respect hold state of packages.
The apt backend performs a safe upgrade by default and additionally tries to detect upgrades which would only require the installation of further packages but not the removal of those. This methods makes it impossible to detect packages which are set on hold on the dpkg level, since apt doesn't provide information why an upgrade was skipped from the safe upgrade. The aptcc backend doesn't perform a safe upgrade but a full upgrade to detect the updates. Since there isn't any simulate method for a system upgrade it is very dangerous of the aptcc backend to report upgrades as installable without having the possibilty to inform the user about the required removal of packages. The best fix would be to have a simualte method for the upgrade_system method. -- PackageKit does not respect hold state of packages. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/581886 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 467997] Re: Gnome add to panel add (custom) Menu Bar | icon size is too big!
I encountered this issue and found this bug searching for a solution. I have just upgraded from 8.10 Intrepid to 9.04 Jaunty then to 9.10 Karmic. I didn't notice if this issue was present on Jaunty, but it definitely is on Karmic. After a bunch of trial and error, I have a workaround of three short and simple commands: sudo mv /usr/share/icons/Tangerine/icon-theme.cache /usr/share/icons/Tangerine/icon-theme.cache.1 sudo mv /usr/share/icons/Tangerine/32x32/places/start-here.png /usr/share/icons/Tangerine/32x32/places/start-here.png.1 killall gnome-panel You might get a file not found error if the file icon-theme.cache doesn't exist, this is fine, but you probably won't. Sudo is only needed for the first two. My testing consisted of copying everything from /usr/share/icons/Tangerine into another folder in /usr/share/icons, selecting that icon theme, then deleting the *start-here* files (as in find /usr/share/icons/Tangerine -iname *start-here*) and running killall gnome-panel after each delete to see if it did anything. You can actually remove all of the *start-here* files and somehow still have those icons present in the Menu Bar (A custom menu bar) applet but they'll not be in the Main Menu (The main GNOME menu) applet; the only file that changes anything is the 32x32 png one. The issue is definitely around that file. If other themes are having this issue, perhaps this solution could work for them too. Here's some info about my system: $ apt-cache policy tangerine-icon-theme tangerine-icon-theme: Installed: 0.27 Candidate: 0.27 Version table: *** 0.27 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ uname -a Linux ubuntu 2.6.31-22-generic #60-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 27 00:22:23 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux $ cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=9.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=karmic DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 9.10 -- Gnome add to panel add (custom) Menu Bar | icon size is too big! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/467997 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
