I just updated the BIOS on my AOD150 to 1.13 (the latest available for the AOD150) and it solves the problem halfway - it now correctly does not do the lid-close action when you plug in etc, but it does not suspend properly when the lid is closed. [Bug 601220] Re: [maverick] libcairo2 fails to render color blends correctly with certain themes
Stephen, I see your point. Though I am not criticizing Canonical nor Ubuntu-developers, I can see there is a bad tendency nowadays to blaim NVidia quite easily. I certainly do not hope Ubuntu developes into a direction where proprietary drivers do not work. After all, quite a lot of hours has been spent to develope and to improve open source drivers (like nouveau). Still we all must admit that NVidia proprietary drivers are far better, if not unreachable. I do not know how this particular libcairo2 package developed into the current state, but there are several issues it brought about. -- [maverick] libcairo2 fails to render color blends correctly with certain themes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/601220 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 564849] Re: indic-applet-session clickable area truncated
I've never experiencied this bug in karmic. In lucid, when it was released, it seemed ok, but for some months this problem started to happen, and its always the same behavior: crops my name, and power menu is hidden. If I add another indicator-applet-session, an intersting behavior: it appears just the power button. To workaround I need to remove the buggeds applets, and add them again. [Bug 611144] [NEW] eucalyptus should support booting multiboot image
Public bug reported: Currently, for each instance launched by Eucalyptus, an admin provided kernel is booted. Eucalyptus generates a hunk of libvirt xml like the following: hvm BASEPATH/kernel root=/dev/sda1 console=ttyS0 The result is that kvm is invoked with '-kernel ' and '-append root=/dev/sda1 console=ttyS0'. Historically, the admin provided kernel has been a linux kernel. This is in keeping with EC2's practice. Recently, amazon has exposed the ability to "boot your own kernel" by providing pv-grub as a "kernel". The pv-grub boot loader functions very much like a normal "grub 0.97" loader. It reads a menu.lst from /boot/grub/menu.lst and boots kernels from inside the guest. The largest end user benefit of this is that now the operating system booted can manage its own kernel. Previously, a kernel upgrade in an instance would result in the same kernel being used on reboot. Eucalyptus should provide a way to load a boot loader, rather than limiting the 'kernel' to a linux kernel. === The truth is, that Eucalyptus does not enforce that the kernel must be a linux kernel. And, a multiboot complient kernel can actually be booted in the mechanism described above, thanks to kvm '-kernel' being a multiboot complient boot loader. This sounds like a perfectly simple solution: Let the admin create multiboot compliant boot loader image (ie, grub2) that would chainload to the grub installed in the image. In fact, it actually *almost* works. The problem with the simple solution is that eucalyptus uses scsi as its root device, and seabios has no native support for scsi (bug 611142). Because this is *major* functionality, I'm seeking a work around to the issue above. -- [1] http://aws.typepad.com/aws/2010/07/use-your-own-kernel-with-amazon-ec2.html ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: eucalyptus-nc 2.0~bzr1211-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: User Name 2.6.32-305.9-ec2 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-305-ec2 i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Thu Jul 29 03:15:18 2010 Ec2AMI: ami-e930db80 Ec2AMIManifest: ubuntu-images-testing-us/ubuntu-maverick-daily-i386-server-20100727.manifest.xml Ec2AvailabilityZone: us-east-1b Ec2InstanceType: m1.small Ec2Kernel: aki-407d9529 Ec2Ramdisk: unavailable ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: eucalyptus ** Affects: eucalyptus Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Scott Moser (smoser) Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug maverick uec-images -- eucalyptus should support booting multiboot image https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/611144 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I ran into a similar issue, but found an alternate fix. If I opened my home directory in file browser, evince-thumbnailer would hit 100%, and stay that way. Additionally, no thumbnails would show up in the window. To make a long story short, I'd run some commands as root in my home directory. As a result, a few files were owned by root, with permissions that didn't give my account access. Once I chown'd everything in my home directory to be owned by myself, the problem went away. [Bug 611137] [NEW] cc_mounts may need to translate device names for xvda or virtio
Public bug reported: As shown in cloud-config syntax at [1], cloud-init allows the user to a name that will appear in the metadata service instead of a device name. For example, the user can specify: - [ ephemeral0, /mnt, auto, "defaults, noexec" ] If the metadata service contains something like: 'block-device-mapping': {'ami': 'sda1', 'ephemeral0': 'sda2', 'root': '/dev/sda1', 'swap': 'sda3'}, Then an entry in /etc/fstab will be added for 'sda2'. There are 2 possibilities that the string 'sda2' will be wrong. a.) on ec2, we're using a -virtual kernel, or some kernel without a patch to make xen block devices show up as 'sdX' rather than 'xvdX'. Currently our -ec2 kernels have xen block devices as sdX, but this may change. b.) on eucalyptus, with virtio as root device and/or ebs. In this case, the metadata service will still likely have 'sdX' but the kernel devices would be named vdX. In either case, some trickery will have to be done to decide to rename. Really, this is just a general problem with the metadata service provided by the hypervisor believing it knows certain things about the OS that is running in it. -- [1] http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~cloud-init-dev/cloud-init/trunk/annotate/head%3A/doc/examples/cloud-config.txt ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: eucalyptus-nc 2.0~bzr1211-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: User Name 2.6.32-305.9-ec2 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-305-ec2 i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Thu Jul 29 03:06:03 2010 Ec2AMI: ami-e930db80 Ec2AMIManifest: ubuntu-images-testing-us/ubuntu-maverick-daily-i386-server-20100727.manifest.xml Ec2AvailabilityZone: us-east-1b Ec2InstanceType: m1.small Ec2Kernel: aki-407d9529 Ec2Ramdisk: unavailable ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: eucalyptus ** Affects: cloud-init (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug ec2-images i386 maverick -- cc_mounts may need to translate device names for xvda or virtio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/611137 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 570879] Re: OpenGL graphic errors in google earth
Nice find Reynaldo. I've added myself to the cc list for that bug. However it must be a different bug than this one, for two reasons. Firstly, the description is quite different to the screenshots linked in this bug. Secondly, that bug is when using gallium3D. Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" is not using gallium3D - it is using the classic mesa3D driver instead. -- OpenGL graphic errors in google earth https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570879 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 575160] Re: seamonkey 2.0 in Lucid crashes with 'RenderBadPicture' diagnostics
I updated to 2.0.6 and it still crashes. I can't reproduce the error and I've tried many times. Try opening a bunch of tabs; use anything with lots of pictures, and close tabs one by one, that always seems to work for me. [Bug 520589] Re: Network manager icon does not appear in notification panel at startup
I believe I've had the same problem, but have done things differently and may have a work-around and possibly a clue: * somehow nm-applet icon disappeared from the panel; both NetworkManager and nm-applet processes are running, but disappearance of the nm-applet icon disables human user control of networking in the GUI. $ ps aux | grep NetworkM showed network manager daemon running # kill -15 * immediate result was another instance of the NetworkManager daemon and appearance of the nm-applet icon in the panel # shutdown -r now * after system came up, nm-applet icon appears in the panel, per expectations; i.e. the system seems to have retained the state from the last shutdown. Tho'ts: init kicks off NetworkManager and gdm stuff; gdm seems the parent of nm-applet. In the /etc/ tree the files for NetworkManager and gnome* show no recent timestamps, so no human and no process has overwritten any conf files. It seems there is some configuration issue at some low, possibly library, level (e.g. argument not properly passed). j...@systemateka.com -- Network manager icon does not appear in notification panel at startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ok, tried different and combined things, like libata.noacpi=1, libata.force=noncq, norst being that this last one was to block the soft and hard resetting, which eventually cause the whole system to crash and kernel panic for the first opportunity this bug came up. [Bug 611130] [NEW] tcl-mode does not highlight builtin keywords
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: emacs23 'tcl-mode' does not highlight Tcl's builtin keywords using the font- lock-builtin-face. For instance, the following code snippet does not highlight "set", "lappend", and "puts" proc HelloWorld {} { set a {} lappend a 123 puts "Hello World" } These are clearly defined in the tcl-builtin-list variable in tcl.el, and there is no reason why they shouldn't be highlighted. I remember I ran into this bug using two identical versions of emacs on two different Linux systems, so it may be an issue in a shared object library. Same thing happens in emacs22 and emacs-snapshot. [Bug 601220] Re: [maverick] libcairo2 fails to render color blends correctly with certain themes
If this is the direction of Ubuntu development, then bug reports seem indeed to become pointless. Unless it is broken for the systems the developers are using, it is not considered a bug. OK, I've now also tested this with thinkfinger, which was newly updated and posted.
