[Bug 611167] [NEW] Suspend/Resume fails with non-responsive machine

2010-07-28 Thread Anant Kabra
Public bug reported:

Suspend/Resume by closing the lid causes the monitor to go blank, but
the power light remains on (Instead of blinking). Opening the lid again,
shows a black screen with a non-responsive machine. Need to hard boot
after this.

The problem is not there in the 2.6.32-(23/24)-generic kernels or the
upstream 2.6.35-999-generic kernels but exists in at least
2.6.35-(10/11/12)-generic kernels (Not tested with any others).

Re: [Bug 401944] Re: all power state changes cause suspend on acer aspire one

2010-07-28 Thread Jonathan Nielsen
I just updated the BIOS on my AOD150 to 1.13 (the latest available for the
AOD150) and it solves the problem halfway - it now correctly does not do the
lid-close action when you plug in etc, but it does not suspend properly when
the lid is closed. Good enough for me... I'm capable of hitting Fn-F4
before closing the lid.

Just a question it says development version snapshot and both packages
do exist in parallel from dapper cycle and will it be safe to request
a removal?

Your thoughts?

[Bug 609620] Re: Merge exim4 4.72-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-07-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package exim4 - 4.72-1ubuntu1

---
exim4 (4.72-1ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low

  * Merge with Debian unstable (LP: #609620). Remaining changes:
+ debian/patches/71_exiq_grep_error_on_messages_without_size.dpatch:
  Improve handling of broken messages when "exim4 -bp" (mailq) reports
  lines without size info.
+ Don't declare a Provides: default-mta; in Ubuntu, we want postfix to be
  the default.
+ debian/control: Change build dependencies to MySQL 5.1.
+ debian/{control,rules}: add and enable hardened build for PIE
  (Closes: #542726).

exim4 (4.72-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. (Identical to the git snapshot previously
uploaded to experimental.)

exim4 (4.72~20100529-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * Git snapshot 20100529.
+ Fix documentation for exipick -bpra. #574778
+ CVE-2010-2024: Protect against symlink attacks on MBX lockfile in /tmp.
  (Debian's default configuration does not use MBX format, but the
  exim4-daemon-heavy binary supports MBX.)
+ CVE-2010-2023 Prevent hardlink attack on mbox sticky mail directory.
  (Probably not relevant for Debian systems at all, since the mail spool
  is 2775 root:mail.)
+ Dovecot authenticator ignores unknown keywords, making it compatible
  with version 1.1 of Dovecot authentication protocol. (= dovecot 2.0).
See Changelog for complete list.
   * Drop patches included upstream: 36_typoinexipick.diff
 20_PDKIM-Upgrade-PolarSSL.diff.

exim4 (4.71-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Drop unneeded lintian overrides.
+ description-contains-homepage
+ debian/source.lintian-overrides dbg-package-missing-depends exim4-dbg.
+ partially-translated-question
+ maintainer-script-needs-depends-on-update-inetd
+ possible-bashism-in-maintainer-script
+ binary-without-manpage
+ possible-debconf-note-abuse
+ changelog-not-compressed-with-max-compression
  * Lintian informational hints:
+ hyphen-used-as-minus-sign. debian/manpages/exim4-config_files.5
  debian/manpages/update-exim4.conf.8 debian/manpages/exiwhat.8
  * Use dh_lintian.
  * Fix sourcing of lsb-functions in init-script. Test for existence of
/usr/lib/exim4/exim4 first. Unconditionally read /lib/lsb/init-functions.
If they are not present the package's dependencies are not installed.
Bump dependency on lsb-base to 3.0-6. (log_action_*)
  * Update reference to spec.txt in README.Debian. Closes: #568051
  * Invoke spfquery as spfquery.mail-spf-query-perl. There are three different
implementations of spfquery in Debian, with incompatible commandline
switches and different exit codes. Closes: #573956

[Bug 53897] Re: Disappearing panels/menus in Xubuntu

2010-07-28 Thread rvgsd
I am still having this issue in Xubuntu 10.04 (32 Bit) installed on a Dell
Studio 15 (64 Bit).
Is there a fix? I tried the work-arounds floating on the internet, like
starting xfce4-panel in the terminal, saving the session and logging in again,
etc etc. Whatever I do, the panel disappears as soon as I close the Terminal,
and doesn't even run with xfce4-panel in 'alt+f2'.

[Bug 601220] Re: [maverick] libcairo2 fails to render color blends correctly with certain themes

2010-07-28 Thread Harry
Stephen,
I see your point.
Though I am not criticizing Canonical nor Ubuntu-developers, I can see there is
a bad tendency nowadays to blaim NVidia quite easily.
I certainly do not hope Ubuntu developes into a direction where proprietary
drivers do not work.
After all, quite a lot of hours has been spent to develope and to improve open
source drivers (like nouveau).
Still we all must admit that NVidia proprietary drivers are far better, if not
unreachable.
I do not know how this particular libcairo2 package developed into the current
state, but there are several issues it brought about.

[Bug 564849] Re: indic-applet-session clickable area truncated

2010-07-28 Thread 3esmit
I've never experiencied this bug in karmic. In lucid, when it was released, it
seemed ok, but for some months this problem started to happen, and its always
the same behavior: crops my name, and power menu is hidden. If I add another
indicator-applet-session, an intersting behavior: it appears just the power
button. To workaround I need to remove the buggeds applets, and add them again.
Some simmilar issue with the indicator-applet also happen once, where just that
'separator' 3 horizontal lines were visible, to fix it also removing and adding
it back. Its very annoying.
When it happens, how can I help tracking this bug?

[Bug 559163] Re: Dell Latitude D600 hangs on wakeup from suspend

2010-07-28 Thread Benny Hult
This morning I decided to try to solve this problem a little and I didn't.
I tried 3 different kernels, two older ones and one newer.

First I tried
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19976056/linux-image-2.6.27-9-generic_2.6.27-9.19_i386.deb
 and it didn't even boot.
Then I tried linux-headers-2.6.31-02063109-generic_2.6.31-02063109_i386.deb but
the keyboard didn't work
Last one was linux-image-2.6.31-02063113-generic_2.6.31-02063113_i386.deb
suspend/hibernate doesn't work in this one neither, but the bootsplash looks
good, so I'm going to stick on this one.

Becouse I need supend alot, I think I'm going to get myself an another
laptop instead of this Dell D600.

  * debian/rules
- use the python-support specific directory (/usr/lib/pymodules) for the
  symlinks /usr/include/python*/numpy; this correctly installs the header
  files (mainly _numpyconfig.h) used by depending packages; Closes: #589592
  * debian/control
- removed José Fonseca from Uploaders: thanks for your previous work!
  * debian/patches/changeset_r851{0,1}.diff
- cherry-picked from upstream SVN patches to correctly detect double long on
  powerppc, fixing the FTBFS on that arch

 -- Sandro Tosi   Fri, 23 Jul 2010 19:42:47 +0200

python-numpy (1:1.4.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/rules
- set MPLCONFIGDIR to a place writable even on buildd, the build dir
  (referenced with `.')

python-numpy (1:1.4.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Sandro Tosi ]
  * debian/control
- removed Marco Presi from uploaders: thanks for your work!
- added myself to Uploaders
- added python-sphinx and python-matplotlib to b-d, needed to build doc
- drop python-numpy-ext, transitional package already in stable
- bump Standards-Version to 3.9.0 (no changes needed)
- removed Conflicts: all versions are already older than the ones in lenny
  * New upstream release
  * debian/patches/04_fix_utils_deprecated.patch
- removed, upstream code has changed
  * debian/patches/05_fix_endianness_detection.patch
- refreshed for new upstream code
- disabled, since it generates a corrupted package (left here just in case)
  * debian/copyright
- updated copyright notice; thanks to Yaroslav Halchenko for the report;
  Closes: #573614
- added all the missing notices for copyrights & licenses differing from
  main ones
  * debian/rules
- remove 'get-orig-source' target, no more needed
- build and install documentation; thanks to Joel for the report;
  Closes: #508113
  * debian/python-numpy.install
- sorted, it's clearer to read
- added installation for 'compat', 'matrixlib' and 'polynomial' submodules
  * debian/patches/07_bts585309_string_exceptions.diff
- added upstream patch (r8463) to remove string exceptions; Closes: #585309
  * debian/{compat, control, rules, *.install, *.doc}
- switch from cdbs to dh7
  * debian/{control, rules}
- use system-wide jquery instead of an embedded one
  * debian/python-numpy-doc.doc-base
- added doc-base
  * debian/patches/10_use_local_python.org_object.inv_sphinx.diff
- use a local copy of python.org object.inv file instead of downloading it
  from internet at doc build-time
  * debian/patches/03_force_f2py_version.patch
- added description
  * debian/{control, README.f2py}
- properly support f2py executables, Suggesting python-dev and gfortran and
  adding a readme file to explain that; thanks to Kevin Mitchell for the
  report; Closes: #586395
  * debian/{control, rules, *.preinst}
- switch from python-central to python-support
  * debian/python-numpy.docs
- separate each file in a different line and install README.f2py

  [ Piotr Ożarowski ]
  * debian/control: add XB-Python-Version to python-numpy-dbg package

  [ Kumar Appaiah ]
  * Convert to new source format: 3.0 (quilt) (Closes: #482706)
+ debian/rules: Remove CDBS' quilt related calls.
+ Add debian/source/format which says "3.0 (quilt)".

  [ Jakub Wilk ]
  * Add --prefix=/usr to setup.py in order to appease Python >= 2.6.
  * Move f2pyX.Y-dbg manpages from python-numpy to python-numpy-dbg.
  * Actually build f2pyX.Y-dbg and f2py-dbg binaries.
  * Fix shebangs for f2py* binaries.

  [ Matthias Klose ]
  * Use setup.py install --install-layout; spec

I have two unrelated computers, both with Atheros card, stopped

Now that the problem is identified, I hope they fix it.

[Bug 429748] Re: ath9k - karmic - no 5GHz networks

2010-07-28 Thread jerico
I have a WRT600N router and an Atheros AR9287 chipset ( AR5B9X ) and
cannot see n networks yet n networks are present as a valid network type
in lshw (output below). I am able to connect to b and g networks without
any issues. I also checked the EEPROM settings on my ath9k driver setup
and got the following below. Are there any other suggestions to help
resolve this issue?

[Bug 592533] Re: Please merge ifscheme 1.7-3(universe) from debian unstable(main)

2010-07-28 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Hi,

That's better, but I miss a DEP-5 header in both patches (the
Description field is mandatory). Otherwise, looks good.

Thanks,
Fabrice

[Bug 611149] [NEW] DViCO Fusion Dual 4 issue returned in Ubuntu 10.4

2010-07-28 Thread Lachlan Botticchio
Public bug reported:

After performing a clean install of Mythbuntu 10.4 x86-64 I am receiving
the following messages in my syslog every second.

Jul 29 14:27:47 be kernel: [  715.610066] dvb-usb: bulk message failed: -110
(4/0)
Jul 29 14:27:47 be kernel: [  715.610069] cxusb: i2c read failed

I have tried the workaround suggested in Bug #459523 -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/459523

I have tried downloading, compiling and installing the latest Linux TV
DVB drivers.

I have installed all the latest patches including the Kernel updates.

But all to no avail as I still get the messages.

I have 2 x Dvico DVB-T Dual Digital 4 (Rev 1) TV card's.

  * Manual merge from debian unstable (due to MoM not being updated)
(LP: #592526). Remaining changes:
- Add "add-shell /bin/zsh" because zsh-beta is already registered
  as an alternative to zsh, and this is needed to be able to have
  zsh-beta as the only installed zsh.
- Don't set PATH in zshenv any more

[Bug 611144] [NEW] eucalyptus should support booting multiboot image

2010-07-28 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

Currently, for each instance launched by Eucalyptus, an admin provided kernel
is booted. Eucalyptus generates a hunk of libvirt xml like the following:

hvm
BASEPATH/kernel
root=/dev/sda1 console=ttyS0

The result is that kvm is invoked with '-kernel ' and
'-append root=/dev/sda1 console=ttyS0'.

Historically, the admin provided kernel has been a linux kernel. This
is in keeping with EC2's practice. Recently, amazon has exposed the
ability to "boot your own kernel" by providing pv-grub as a "kernel".
The pv-grub boot loader functions very much like a normal "grub 0.97"
loader. It reads a menu.lst from /boot/grub/menu.lst and boots kernels
from inside the guest.

The largest end user benefit of this is that now the operating system
booted can manage its own kernel. Previously, a kernel upgrade in an
instance would result in the same kernel being used on reboot.

Eucalyptus should provide a way to load a boot loader, rather than
limiting the 'kernel' to a linux kernel.

===

The truth is, that Eucalyptus does not enforce that the kernel must be a
linux kernel. And, a multiboot complient kernel can actually be booted
in the mechanism described above, thanks to kvm '-kernel' being a
multiboot complient boot loader.

This sounds like a perfectly simple solution: Let the admin create
multiboot compliant boot loader image (ie, grub2) that would chainload
to the grub installed in the image.

In fact, it actually *almost* works. The problem with the simple
solution is that eucalyptus uses scsi as its root device, and seabios
has no native support for scsi (bug 611142).

Because this is *major* functionality, I'm seeking a work around to the
issue above.

[Bug 530372] Re: cannot change track information - Unable to create tag-writing elements

2010-07-28 Thread John Baptist
I'll note that in my experience, this problem is not limited to WMA
files: it happens in MP3 files, as well. So I'm not sure what the common
element is. Would it be helpful to attach an MP3 that causes this error?

It seems that the upstream bug is still not confirmed.

[Bug 611142] Re: seabios should have native scsi support

2010-07-28 Thread Scott Moser
I'm fully aware that this isn't a high priority bug for anyone primarily due to
the fact that it uses the word 'scsi'.
However, I wanted to document it here.

Also, I'm attaching an IRC log of a conversation with aligouri in #kvm
discussing the issue.

[Bug 611142] [NEW] seabios should have native scsi support

2010-07-28 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seabios

Currently when a grub multiboot image is booted with 'kvm -kernel' and
'biosdisk' module, it will see block devices of type IDE or virtio. It
will not see scsi devices.

To demonstrate this:
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 disk.img 1G
$ grub-mkrescue --output=rescue.iso
$ grub-mkimage -O i386-pc --output=grub-mb.img biosdisk minicmd part_msdos

An 'ls' inside the grub prompt will show hard disks (hd0) on if:
a.) -drive uses interface of virtio or scsi
or
b.) kvm boots boot from a cdrom or floppy

For example, with these commands, grub will see a '(hd0)'
$ kvm -drive file=disk.img,if=scsi,boot=on -cdrom rescue.iso -boot d
$ kvm -drive file=disk.img,if=scsi,boot=on -floppy rescue.iso -boot a
$ kvm -drive file=disk.img,if=virtio,boot=on -cdrom rescue.iso -boot d
$ kvm -drive file=disk.img,if=ide,boot=on -cdrom rescue.iso -boot d
$ kvm -drive file=disk.img,if=virtio,boot=on -kernel grub-mb.img
$ kvm -drive file=disk.img,if=ide,boot=on -kernel grub-mb.img

But the following will not:
$ kvm -drive file=disk.img,if=scsi,boot=on -kernel grub-mb.img

Could you attach the patch to Debian bug #485823 ? I know the bug report

Some of the plugins for Rhythmbox, such as Jamendo, actually store a
database in RAM, and tend to get quite memory hungry. Can you confirm if
that is the case or not?

[Bug 588942] Re: Crashes with "short read" with default ppp0 MTU

2010-07-28 Thread Nicolás Lichtmaier
This has to do with MTU path discovery. The weird thing (to me) is that
EMSGSIZE is being sent by the kernel in the "read" call instead of when
the data is being sent. The client does not expect that and ends.

[Bug 384062] Re: evince-thumbnailer with a 100% CPU usage

2010-07-28 Thread Gregory Shaw
I ran into a similar issue, but found an alternate fix.

If I opened my home directory in file browser, evince-thumbnailer would
hit 100%, and stay that way. Additionally, no thumbnails would show up
in the window.

To make a long story short, I'd run some commands as root in my home
directory.As a result, a few files were owned by root, with
permissions that didn't give my account access.

Once I chown'd everything in my home directory to be owned by myself,
the problem went away.

Personally, I think that evince-thumbnailer should deal with EPERM
errors properly, but as usual YMMV.

[Bug 570879] Re: OpenGL graphic errors in google earth

2010-07-28 Thread madbiologist
However, it would be good to see if this bug is fixed in gallium3D.
Gallium3D may be the default in mesa 7.9 for older radeon cards - see
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=ati_r300g_june2&num=1

Gallium3D for newer radeon cards is still some way off, although it has

[Bug 611137] [NEW] cc_mounts may need to translate device names for xvda or virtio

2010-07-28 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

As shown in cloud-config syntax at [1], cloud-init allows the user to a name
that will appear in the metadata service instead of a device name. For
example, the user can specify:
  - [ ephemeral0, /mnt, auto, "defaults,noexec" ]

If the metadata service contains something like:
 'block-device-mapping': {'ami': 'sda1',
  'ephemeral0': 'sda2',
  'root': '/dev/sda1',
  'swap': 'sda3'},

Then an entry in /etc/fstab will be added for 'sda2'.

There are 2 possibilities that the string 'sda2' will be wrong.
a.) on ec2, we're using a -virtual kernel, or some kernel without a patch to
make xen block devices show up as 'sdX' rather than 'xvdX'. Currently our -ec2
kernels have xen block devices as sdX, but this may change.
b.) on eucalyptus, with virtio as root device and/or ebs. In this case, the
metadata service will still likely have 'sdX' but the kernel devices would be
named vdX.

In either case, some trickery will have to be done to decide to rename.

Really, this is just a general problem with the metadata service
provided by the hypervisor believing it knows certain things about the
OS that is running in it.

[Bug 570879] Re: OpenGL graphic errors in google earth

2010-07-28 Thread madbiologist
Nice find Reynaldo. I've added myself to the cc list for that bug.
However it must be a different bug than this one, for two reasons.
Firstly, the description is quite different to the screenshots linked in
this bug. Secondly, that bug is when using gallium3D. Ubuntu 10.04
"Lucid Lynx" is not using gallium3D - it is using the classic mesa3D
driver instead.

[Bug 520589] Re: Network manager icon does not appear in notification panel at startup

2010-07-28 Thread james stockford
I believe I've had the same problem, but have done things differently and may
have a work-around and possibly a clue:
* somehow nm-applet icon disappeared from the panel; both NetworkManager and
nm-applet processes are running, but disappearance of the nm-applet icon
disables human user control of networking in the GUI.
$ ps aux | grep NetworkM showed network manager daemon running
# kill -15
* immediate result was another instance of the NetworkManager daemon and
appearance of the nm-applet icon in the panel
# shutdown -r now
* after system came up, nm-applet icon appears in the panel, per expectations;
i.e. the system seems to have retained the state from the last shutdown.

Tho'ts: init kicks off NetworkManager and gdm stuff; gdm seems the parent of
nm-applet. In the /etc/ tree the files for NetworkManager and gnome* show no
recent timestamps, so no human and no process has overwritten any conf files.
It seems there is some configuration issue at some low, possibly library, level
(e.g. argument not properly passed).

[Bug 285892] Re: ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x807f SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen

2010-07-28 Thread DjznBR
Ok, tried different and combined things, like libata.noacpi=1,
libata.force=noncq,norst being that this last one was to block the
soft and hard resetting, which eventually cause the whole system to
crash and kernel panic for the first opportunity this bug came up.

Now I am hopeless... I can tell that nothing in the realm of what a user
can do will solve this. At least I got to a conclusion.

So what you guys advise...

Do I trash my SAMSUNG drive, along with my trust in this company...

or

Do I trash my ASUS M3A78-EM equipped with SB700 chipset...

[Bug 611130] [NEW] tcl-mode does not highlight builtin keywords

2010-07-28 Thread oaul
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: emacs23

'tcl-mode' does not highlight Tcl's builtin keywords using the font-
lock-builtin-face. For instance, the following code snippet does not
highlight "set", "lappend", and "puts"

proc HelloWorld {} {
set a {}
lappend a 123
puts "Hello World"
}

These are clearly defined in the tcl-builtin-list variable in tcl.el,
and there is no reason why they shouldn't be highlighted.

I remember I ran into this bug using two identical versions of emacs on
two different Linux systems, so it may be an issue in a shared object
library.

Same thing happens in emacs22 and emacs-snapshot.

noted there, I'm seeing the failure with the newly uploaded thinkfinger
as well as current versions of fprint(d).

[Bug 601220] Re: [maverick] libcairo2 fails to render color blends correctly with certain themes

2010-07-28 Thread Stephan Muhs
If this is the direction of Ubuntu development, then bug reports seem
indeed to become pointless. Unless it is broken for the systems the
developers are using, it is not considered a bug. A very sorry state of
affairs and a good way to make sure that bug #1 will never be resolved.

[Bug 609645] Re: [Maverick regression] libpam-fprint & libpam-fprintd not working with basic sudo

2010-07-28 Thread Noel J. Bergman
OK, I've now also tested this with thinkfinger, which was newly updated
and posted.

Thinkfinger and fprint are both working for login, both working for
authentication with update manager, et al, and NEITHER is working with
sudo from the command line, leading me to believe that the actual defect
is common to both.

This regression is unique to Maverick.

** Summary changed:

- [Maverick regression] libpam-fprint & libpam-fprintd not working with basic
sudo
+ [Maverick regression] Fingerprint authentication (libpam-thinkfinger,
libpam-fprint & libpam-fprintd) not working with basic sudo
