[Bug 630028] [NEW] package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.37-1ubuntu5.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-09-04 Thread John Lyon
Public bug reported:

I changed my socket setting for mysql to /var/lib/mysqld/mysqld.sock,
and now automatic updates to mysql do not seem to function. I believe
that the socket was set to /usr/bin originally, and I tried to change
the location in order to install mysql, but the installation was
unsuccessful. Well, I am learning more everyday

[Bug 591489] Re: QEMU_AUDIO_DRV set to none by libvirtd in Lucid

2010-09-04 Thread Ian Ward
Here's my dirty hack that enables local sound:

cd /usr/bin
mv kvm kvm.bin
cat kvm END
#!/bin/sh
QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=alsa /usr/bin/kvm.bin $@
END
chmod +x kvm

I also tried QEMU_AUDIO=pa, but that didn't give any mic input for some
reason.

[Bug 630391] [NEW] Missing libodbc.so symbolic link

2010-09-04 Thread John Lenz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unixodbc

The mono library System.Data.Odbc searches for libodbc.so but the
unixodbc package does not create this symbolic link. That means
ODBCConnection.Open() fails with a LibraryNotFound exception.

I was able to fix this by running
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libodbc.so.1 /usr/lib/libodbc.so

The unixodbc package should create this link automatically so mono works
properly.

[Bug 563276] Re: No way to tweak multi-finger tap reaction

2010-09-04 Thread Yuri Khan
Yes it is a GNOME bug and a link to the related upstream bug report is
provided above. But I am doing limited testing on Ubuntu users like
myself while waiting for the upstream to come out of feature freeze.

Meanwhile, the package for Maverick is available in ppa:yurivkhan/ppa,
although it is bound to be a hard time for me keeping up with new
versions.

[Bug 629339] Re: Pulseaudio log shows a lot of ratelimit.c: events, as well as other issues

2010-09-04 Thread Virgil Brummond
I found a solution. It is the glitch free audio again. If I append
tsched=0 to the line: load-module module-udev-detect in
/etc/pulse/default.pa the audio/video work correctly. Here are some logs
that may be relevant.

apparently starving. Taking action.

[Bug 600453] Re: [arrandale] [i915] DELL E6510: blank screen on boot (Intel GPU)

2010-09-04 Thread Manuel Carro
@Corona: I'm running a drm-intel kernel (2.6.36-rc2) with the patch you
mention reverted. Works fine, including external monitors (in a
somewhat brittle way, I would say). Card readers are not a high
priority for me now - I go around with a small USB card reader. Suspend
works with the acpi_sleep kernel option. My current biggest problem is
that I cannot make VirtualBox run reliably.

I did not know 2.6.35 supported external monitors. Which release are
you using? I may give it a try.

I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

[Bug 629910] Re: nvidia 256.53 xorg-server 1.9.0 performance regression with antialiased text

2010-09-04 Thread Harry
Yes I can confirm there is a regression issue with xserver 1.9 (at least
up to 1.9.0-0ubuntu4) and nvidia-current (at least up to 256.53).

This is most prominent when scrolling in some applications.
I have found that synaptic is a very good example of this one.
Scrolling is severely influenced there.

With xserver 1.8 branch and nvidia-current 256.44 scrolling was very fluent:
a big difference compared to xserver 1.8 branch with ati open source drivers
(xserver-xorg-video-radeon).
Now the open source ati drivers are clearly faster than nvidia-current_256.53
with xserver 1.9.

But, for the time being I cannot say if this is a regression in xserver 1.9 or
have certain codes changed in the new xserver so much,
that nvidia drivers ought to be changed as well.
At least it seems not to be a regression in nvidia-current, because the same
driver (256.44) works very well with xserver 1.8, but not with xserver 1.9
(with IgnoreABI command).

[Bug 629910] Re: nvidia 256.53 xorg-server 1.9.0 performance regression with antialiased text

2010-09-04 Thread Harry
Just out of curiosity,
could this bug have something to do with desktop sluggishness that was observer
to be caused by libcairo?
The libcairo code was temporarily changed in order to overcome the
incompatibility with nvidia-current back then.
See the bug #605979

And one more thing.
This bug does not in any way affect video performance. HD videos (1920:1080)
run really well.

[Bug 571038] Re: palimpsest

2010-09-04 Thread yellowhat
Hi, I am the gentoo user that have this problem. This is my situation:
I have 3 hard disk: WD 320 GB 2.5 Backup (connected directly on mainboard), WD
Raptor 150GB Gentoo (connected through an Enermax Mobil Rack), Seagate 320GB
3.5 Win7(connected through an Enermax Mobil Rack).
Now for high temperature I use only WDs because on Seagate I have only Windows
7.
WD raptor has always been connect to a rack (the upper one), but I have tried
to
connect WD Raptor to the other one and automount works. So I decided to
return to previous configuration and gives me no automount and same palimpsest
error.
Both rack are connect to the red Sata ports, while HDD Backup and DVD-RW to the
black ones.

Thanks

Sorry but failed to build on PowerPC.

This is due to a bug in the toolchain on powerpc, not anything to do
with the minitube package. A fix for the powerpc toolchain is in
progress.

[Bug 626723] Re: gdm restarts on initial login

2010-09-04 Thread k3nt-1
Just started my PC this morning and I have been working more than 20 minutes
without a crash. Only missing stuff is the battery monitor applet in my top
panel.
I didn't remove it myself, so it has maybe just failed to start for one reason
or another.
I'll try to unplug my PC see if it causes xorg to crash and will report back
here when it's done.

[Bug 630033] [NEW] software center removes essential packages without notifying

2010-09-04 Thread Eugene Gorodinsky
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

The package evolution-dataserver has other packages that depend on it:
gnome-panel, gnome-session etc. When removing the package in software-
center, the software-center does not notify about removing these
packages, nor does it disallow removing them. Thus the end result of
removing this is a naked x session with only xterm after the restart.

[Bug 630040] [NEW] Sync gkdebconf 1.2.66 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-09-04 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Public bug reported:

Please sync gkdebconf 1.2.66 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Ubuntu changes can be dropped since the only change was valid long ago for
PPC and SPARC archs, the latter of which has been dropped, and the change is
no longer needed. Build also succeeds in pbuilder, so we can safely sync.

Changelog entries since current maverick version 1.2.64ubuntu1:

[Bug 602175] Re: glib-compile-schemas trigger not run after installation GCalctool

2010-09-04 Thread Yuri Khan
For me, the workaround command fails with:

No such schema `org.gnome.Empathy.conversation' specified in override
file `/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/ubuntu-artwork.gschema.override'

This is probably because I had uninstalled empathy before. After
reinstalling empathy, `sudo glib-compile-schemas
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas1` finishes successfully and gcalctool no
longer crashes on startup.

When I remove empathy again, the trigger runs and fails with the same
message.

I suppose removing adium-theme-ubuntu would fix this but it is a hard
dependency of ubuntu-artwork which is a hard dependency of ubuntu-
desktop, which is also used to help proper upgrades, so it is
recommended that it not be removed (from package description).
