[Bug 754522] Re: autofs not starting if no nfs-mount in fstab
Partly because after upgrading grub the old /boot/grub/grub.cfg is removed, then grub-install called. Leading to grub installed without loading /boot/grub/grub.cfg. Solution: reinstall grub by issuing command grub-install dev. [Bug 672953] Re: rsyslog stops writing to fifo on HUP
I asked from the upstream author if this is known issue, and he said this: Ubuntu drops privileges, but their config is often not really up to that. The next thing is to solve how the config should be made up to dropping privileges to avoid this issue. @William Hidden: Have you reported a separate bug for you problem? Re: [Bug 753072] Re: yelp docs not about ubuntu natty
On 7 April 2011 17:46, Kyle Nitzsche kyle.nitzs...@canonical.com wrote: I do wonder about translations. It's a valid concern. At present, any approach we take is likely to result in untranslated documentation, unless we just put out the documentation which we released for Ubuntu 10.10. If we update that at all, there will be gaps in translations because there is so little time left before the release. This will always be a significant gap because of the number of changes required to account for the move to Unity. If we reuse upstream Gnome content, the translation gap is likely to be greater, but we will be able to reuse upstream translations to the extent that these are available (this is at an early stage at present - http://l10n.gnome.org/module/gnome-user-docs/ - but will no doubt continue). We will however be able to update translations after the release. We could choose to only release updated documentation (even in English) after the release, and build translation time into that. However it seems to me that having updated documentation in one language in time for the release (if that is possible) is better than no languages. Bottom line is that we are not in an ideal situation and it is a question of damage limitation. -- Matthew East http://www.mdke.org gnupg pub 1024D/0E6B06FF -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/753072 Title: yelp docs not about ubuntu natty -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 738555] Re: zeitgeist-daemon crashed with IOError in _write_to_disk(): [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/royg/.local/share/zeitgeist/datasources.pickle'
I was investigating on this bug a bit further. All Tracebacks are looking like Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/bin/zeitgeist-daemon, line 180, in module handle_exit() File /usr/bin/zeitgeist-daemon, line 126, in handle_exit interface.Quit() File /usr/share/zeitgeist/_zeitgeist/engine/remote.py, line 349, in Quit self._engine.close() File /usr/share/zeitgeist/_zeitgeist/engine/main.py, line 133, in close self.extensions.unload() File /usr/share/zeitgeist/_zeitgeist/engine/extension.py, line 287, in unload self.unload(ext) File /usr/share/zeitgeist/_zeitgeist/engine/extension.py, line 292, in unload obj.unload() File /usr/share/zeitgeist/_zeitgeist/engine/extensions/datasource_registry.py, line 115, in unload self._write_to_disk() File /usr/share/zeitgeist/_zeitgeist/engine/extensions/datasource_registry.py, line 99, in _write_to_disk with open(DATA_FILE, w) as data_file: IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '$XDG_HOME_DATA/zeitgeist/datasources.pickle' This is telling us a few things: 1.) the crash happens when handle_exit() is called, this function is called when the daemon recieves a SIGHUB or SIGTERM signal, means if the systems wants zg to shut down. (apport will try to report this crash on the next session start, which makes people think this crash happen *while booting*) 2.) If you try to write to a certain location in python, and the parent directory of this location does not exist at this point, an IOError with [Errno 2] No such file or directory: [...] is raised. This indicates that $XDG_HOME_DATA or $XDG_HOME_DATA/zeitgeist does not exist for the bugreporters when the systems wants zg to shut-down. 3.) All bugreporters are having their $HOME (or parts of it) encrypted (EcryptfsInUse: Yes). This *could* be the reason for this bug, *maybe* the encrypted dir (and thus $XDG_HOME_DATA) get un-mounted before the system wants zg to stop. So this leads to a simple question: How do we want zg to behave if it is impossible to write the data to its DATA_PATH (which is in most cases $XDG_DATA_HOME/zeitgeist)? We are talking about these files atm: 1.) activity.sqlite 2.) datasources.pickle 3.) blacklist.(pickle|json) [4.) extension specific files, like the fts index] IMHO three of them are easy to handle. We should not care about 4.) at the first place, it's up to the (3rd party) extensions to do the right thing, but we have to tell extensions authors what we think is the best they could do. If the datasource registry fails to write its config file on shutdown it does not really matter, as its data is written on every change to this file anyway. We should just ignore this error on shutdown and log a warning. If config can not be written when AddTemplate or RemoveTemplate dbus method gets called we should log the error, and return the error over dbus, but not let the daemon crash. The requested config changes should not have any effect. Some goes for blacklists. I'm not sure how to handle the activity log here. Data gets written to this file (sqlite3.connection.commit()) as a result of dbus calls, for which we should log this error, revert in memory changes and send an error over dbus. But we are also writing to this file on start/shutdown of the daemon, which is not an explicit user action. We should log the write error in this cases and do the best to tell our users which kind of actions were not logged properly. As a future step we could also try to shutdown the daemon before the DATA_PATH becomes unavaiable. @Mikkel, Siegfried, Seif, et all. On Mon, Apr 4, 2011 at 8:44 AM, Nick Leverton n...@leverton.org wrote: It still seems to be the case, however, that the -bs option for SMTP mail submission is mandated by LSB. Nullmailer doesn't do it by design, so the conflict is genuine and not likely to go away without some work. Ubuntu has already violated this with the introduction of lsb-invalid-mta, a MTA script that always fails, including on -bs. It was created to provide something as a dependency of the lsb metapackages, which would not build up unchecked mbox files on systems that are (ostensibly) workstations without local mail. Additionally, ssmtp (and one other, I think, but which one escapes me at the moment) does not support -bs, but is not listed as conflicting with lsb. I took this as a hint that the conflict was not actually necessary on nullmailer, either. [Bug 746023] Re: No sound on omap4
A new update was posted to me through email a few hours ago. This seems relatively safe from regressions: the only thing that is now called for all cards is snd_use_case_mgr_open. It would be preferable if this was proactively selected, e g through a udev rule or through a module parameter passed on through module- udev-detect to the alsa card module. This has not changed in the version posted, comment remains. - It would be great if all the new ucm functionality was in a separate pair of .c and .h files. That would make it easier for us to pick up patches to the alsa-card.c file from upstream. I also believe upstream would appreciate that separation. This has improved. - pa_log is used extensively, should be pa_log_debug, pa_log_info to avoid annoying syslog messages. This is ok now although it seems like every pa_log has just changed to pa_log_info. For the jack detection code, that's currently not finished. The current code doesn't add anything of value to the end user, It is unclear to me whether the new version adds value or not. Some things might have improved, but there is still no card matching, and there will still be calls to ucm functions even for non ucm cards. that part is more invasive to current code and so if we decide to merge it I strongly recommend to keep it disabled by default and make a module parameter to module-udev-detect to enable jack detection explicitly. This has not been considered, recommend not to take the jack detection part for now. In addition, the new version has three new patches about namereg_fail, without any explanation as of what they would solve. Summary: UCM profile patches (OK): 0001-alsa-make-visible-profile-functions.patch 0002-alsa-add-proplist-ucm-data.patch 0003-alsa-add-ucm-data-structures-and-calls.patch 0004-alsa-add-support-for-ucm-profiles.patch Namereg patches (Not OK - No reason given why this is needed or what it would improve): 0001-alsa-sink-source-Use-the-namereg_fail-module-argumen.patch 0001-module-alsa-card-New-argument-namereg_fail.patch 0001-module-udev-detect-When-loading-module-alsa-card-use.patch Jack detection patches (Not OK - still not finished and too invasive at this part of the cycle): 0005-alsa-add-jack-detection-support.patch 0006-alsa-add-hook-calls-for-jack-insertion-and-removal.patch 0007-alsa-load-jack-detection-module.patch Might be needed for compilation on our current version of PulseAudio (OK if needed): UCM-decibel_fixes-compilation-error-on-PA-0-9-22.patch UCM-undefined-references-pa_xxx.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/746023 Title: No sound on omap4 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 729074] Re: dynamic quicklists are not working
@Joaquín: a bug report can be used to track an issue in several projects. In that case, the issue was affecting both unity and unity-2d. It was fixed in unity, hence the status change and changelog entry above, but it is not fixed in unity-2d yet. This is unfortunate but don’t worry, it will be fixed soon.
